Delayed orders and zero accountibility

My bulk order is going to be late. I explained I need it in time for a conference. They said due to availability that's not possible...fine. I said they could send my books to my hotel instead...they said that's not possible because they can't change it in the system. Bullspit. I said they need to remedy this with a discount since it is their fault it will be delayed...surprise surprise they can't change it in the system. I'll be going back to KDP.

On May 9th I ordered a product and it…

On May 9th I ordered a product and it never arrived. I contacted customer service via live support and they gave me a phone number and told me to call. Today I was on the phone for 40 minutes and the lady on the phone was very polite and said they would send a new order. she created the order and the order was canceled. They connected me to someone more authorized. Again, I had a long conversation with a sweet lady and she said that she had solved the problem and that my orders would no longer be canceled and I just connected to customer service from live support and told them to send my lost order now, she gave me the same phone number again and said that she could not create the order. They must be kidding me. I wouldn't have a problem with this if I knew the phone call would be short, but when I call, I will listen to music for 10 minutes and tell the whole story from the beginning for half an hour. There can only be one explanation for this. I guess they don't want to sell the product and instead of saying that, they are trying to discourage the customer from shopping by overwhelming them. If you want to experience this terrible shopping experience, you can visit barnesandnoble.com.

Barnes & nobles was a good place for me…

Barnes & nobles was a good place for me to restart in my reading but to wait on delivery is terrible I ordered it on Monday took about a week and a half to get a book never do that again

We’re sorry to hear that your book did not arrive when expected and for any disappointment this has caused. It should be delivered by the expected delivery date shown during check out. Please respond to the accompanying request for more information, so we may look into this further.

The B&N in Birkdale Village is huge. They have a wide selection of books and many hard to find books are available at this location. If you cannot find what you need, someone is always available to assist. The magazine selection is the largest I’ve ever seen along with the Starbucks sitting area. The books and other merchandise is reasonably priced. There are discounts on selected items all the time. When you visit, please be aware that parking can be a bit challenging.

DO NOT order from Barnes & Noble

DO NOT order from Barnes & Noble on line. I ordered 2 books - 1 for my mom and one for me for an upcoming long train trip. Both indicated on line 3-6 days delivery, meaning about May 31. They then emailed me to CHANGE that to June 11 & June 18, respectively. I called to cancel the order ONE HOUR after I placed it. They said oh no - too late. We've already processed it for shipment. I call b*llsh*t. What are you doing, walking it to NJ? Definitely lousy customer service. Stay away. Stay far far away. FOLLOW UP: I sent a direct message via X (formerly Twitter) at the same time that I called Customer Service on the phone. 20 hours later, I've gotten a DM back and they have now CANCELLED the order as requested. I do appreciate that. The moral of the story is that a direct message via X was more effective than talking to a real person. Weird but true.

Absolutely love this place they have almost every book you could ever need and want!! They are kinda pricey compared to other places but the books are always in great shape and they always have new releases and they have magazines and also learning activity books for kids. Books for everyone!! You think you can’t find a book definitely look here cause most likely you will find it

Late review

Have ust been lazy. What's more to say about B&N? It's a fantasy island for bookworms. The collection is phenomenal, hardcovers are something I could die for. I've become an almost monthly visitor after the pandemic and every penny spent is worth all the dopamine.

Shipped fast, one book damaged

My books arrived in two days of ordering them but one is folded pretty badly, I’ve got thick skin so I won’t return it but it is mildly annoying. EDIT: They offered to replace my book within 24 hours of this review being posted

We're sorry to hear one of the books arrived damaged. Could you please respond to the accompanying request for more information so we may take a look. Update: Thank you for providing the requested information. We've sent you an email.

We've got our parcel at 10-13-2022

We've got our parcel at 10-13-2022. Our order content was three thin light by the wieght books , all soft covered. Our order cost to us 200+ AUD. It was smashed box with damaged corner. When we opened the box we realized the box NOT FIT to order content at all, as it's too BIG. Meanwhile all three books weren't wrapped at all and haven't any spacers in between books and box.All three items in the box got some kind of damage incl.n NOT fixable water damage. We can't use the books at its current conditions. We did report about our problem to B@N customer service immediately. They (Oscar) were really marvelous : fast prompt answers, perfect communication and most of all above -very effective and professional actions to fix our problem. Thank you and regards.

We apologize that your items were not received in the condition that is expected. We're happy to hear that customer service was able to resolve the situation to your satisfaction.

Found this book for my friend who never read Jack London. I think it is perfect, ordering was easy, free shipping with my B&N membership. Delivered as promised by the deadline. Very satisfying experience. Thank you

You're welcome. We're thankful to have you as a B&N Member, Natalia!

James is not here

Tried to get a e-book copy of the new novel "James." I fiddled around with the BN app and the BN website for over an hour. In my wanderings, I encountered something called a "wishlist?" What is that? I wish I had the book? I tried to purchase the book, and thought I had. I checked my PayPal account and no purchase had been made. Life is short. I went to Amazon and in 15 seconds the book was in my kindle library. I have fond memories of BN, the bookstore, and how it was when the app worked, 10 years ago. Something bad has happened to BN's computer presence. The software is incompetently written: too detailed, confusing, inoperable. I predict that unless this is changed, Amazon will have more and more book buying customers.

Date of experience : May 20, 2024

We apologize for the difficulties you encountered placing an order on our website. When an order is placed, you will receive an email with the order number. Once the order is processed, the eBook would then be in your NOOK Library under the email address that was used to place the order. It can be read on your NOOK device or the Free B&N NOOK App. If you feel the order was placed, please respond to the accompanying request for more information, so we may take a further look.

Barnes & Noble has provided me with…

Barnes & Noble has provided me with excellent customer support, both in person and via telephone/email. They have taken the issues with my orders seriously and provided very reasonable solutions. When I went to pick up the order in question, I was also greeted with a complementary Starbucks voucher. Little details, but from start to finish, B&N Customer support was excellent, thanks!!

Love the store but I have to say you…

Love the store but I have to say you are lacking in the section or selection of books on atheism and philosophy. I have gone to locations all over the the country and I think I have purchased most of the atheism and philosophy books in your stores I have visited. The bible, christian, and spirituality sections are huge. Take some space away from those sections. I buy a lot of books from Amazon and directly from atheist authors. There are a lot of us who are atheist and enjoy philosophy. That section deserves at least 2 bookshelves but there is less than one in each B&N I go to.

Thank you for your feedback.

Beat up box.

Fortunately the books were vacuum wrapped in plastic because the shipping box was too big, the air packs were not satisfactory to cushion the books so they shifted inside and the box was really beat up. By the time the USPS delivered it, one entire end of the box was gaping open. Only the corners of the two large hardback books I ordered were a little bent. These are Christmas presents so I wanted them to be pristine. Next time I think I’ll pick up in store, if that option is available. Otherwise order process was great and delivery was actually 4 days earlier than expected.

Date of experience : October 08, 2022

We appreciate your feedback regarding the packaging and we're sorry that two books were a little dent. If you would like us to take a look at the order, please reply to the accompanying request for more information.

PANIC! Vinyl

It took me forever to find all the older Panic! At The Disco albums on vinyl. I went down a rabbit hole to find a reputable seller/company who had them, and that's how I found that B&N had this album in particular. Panic! At The Disco is so embedded into my soul, that it's definitely a fever I can't sweat out ;)

We do have a wide selection. Thank you for shopping with us.

Good online service but poor packaging Book purchase on line was smoothly…

Book purchase on line was smoothly processed. Only shortcoming was the book was packaged in a cardboard box unwrapped and left uncovered on porch in heavy rain. Box fell apart when lifted. Fortunately the book was dry but would not have been if left out a little longer. B&N should use recyclable packaging for shipping books.

Emanuel, we're glad to hear that the book was not damaged. We appreciate your feedback regarding the packaging and will pass it along to our Warehouse & Shipping Teams.

It was easy to order

It was easy to order, and it arrived earlier than posted but the jail requires bibles be purchased through Amazon.com only so I've called the jail and they are returning it! I'm sorry that was my mistake but you did your job quite well and I will order through you again because of that fact! Thank you for your excellent service! I will most definitely recommend you to all my friends! Respectfully, Michelle M Manthis cc: file

Date of experience : October 12, 2022

We appreciate that you’ll be recommending us to your friends, Michelle. We're also sorry to hear that your order is being returned; a refund will process once the return is received and processed at the warehouse.

Book was shipped quickly

Book was shipped quickly. However, I do think a "DO NOT BEND" label would have been helpful as the post office bent it in half to get it into my mailbox. Granted it is a not-too-thick trade paperback and I can put it under a weight and flatten it. Just annoying.

We appreciate your feedback and apologize for any disappointment caused by the carrier bending the package. We'll be sure to pass along your feedback to our shipping and warehouse teams.

Delivered Before/On-Time Packages! 5/5

I ordered 2 books, and Barnes and Noble kept me up to date on delivery dates, including when one of the books had a changed delivery date. However, both books arrived before the determined delivery date, both on the same day, which wasn't expected, and both in wonderful condition with minimal to no damage. A wonderful job!

We try to keep you updated throughout the delivery process. Always nice to receive packages earlier than anticipated.

Very happy with this order.

The book was in excellent condition and arrived much sooner than expected. I didn't even need to look up the ship date in my order email before the book showed up on my front porch.

Barnes & Noble Names Top 10 Books of 2022

BY Michael Schaub • Oct. 9, 2022

Barnes & Noble unveiled its list of the best books of 2022, with titles by Celeste Ng, Michelle Obama, and Jennette McCurdy making the cut.

The books were “hand-selected” by the retailer, and “championed by bookseller enthusiasm,” Barnes & Noble said in a news release . All will compete for Barnes & Noble’s Book of the Year honor.

Ng’s Our Missing Hearts , recently selected by Reese Witherspoon as her latest book club pick, made the list, with the bookstore chain praising it as “timely and stunning.” Also honored was Tess Gunty’s “dazzling” The Rabbit Hutch , a finalist for this year’s National Book Award for fiction.

Other adult fiction titles making the list were Louise Penny’s thriller A World of Curiosities, Bonnie Garmus’ debut novel, Lessons in Chemistry , and R.F. Kuang’s dark academia novel Babel: Or the Necessity of Violence: An Arcane History of the Oxford Translators' Revolution .

Obama’s forthcoming The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times was one of four nonfiction books to make the list, along with McCurdy’s bestselling memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died . The others were Ben Macintyre’s Prisoners of the Castle: An Epic Story of Survival and Escape from Colditz, the Nazis' Fortress Prison   and Siddhartha Mukherjee’s The Song of the Cell: An Exploration of Medicine and the New Human .

The sole children’s book to make the list was A.F. Steadman’s fantasy novel, Skandar and the Unicorn Thief .

“There has been no shortage of absolutely extraordinary books published this year, with so many amazing new voices putting pen to paper and bookseller favorites returning to the page,” Shannon DeVito, Barnes & Noble’s director of books, said in a statement.  “These are stories that have truly captivated the attention and love of our booksellers and I’m confident they will make for great gifts this holiday season, resonating with readers nationwide.”

Michael Schaub, a journalist and regular contributor to NPR, lives near Austin, Texas.
