Create a case assignment rule, test the case assignment rule.

Create Case Queues and Assignment Rules

Now that you have your basic support processes and layouts configured for cases, create case queues and assignment rules to route your cases to the correct support teams at Ursa Major Solar.

Create Product Support Tier 1 and Product Support Tier 2 queues so product support cases can be routed to one of these queues based on case criteria and how long the case has been open.

Setup Icon

  • From Service Setup, enter Queues in the Quick Find box and select Queues .
  • Click New  and complete the queue details.
  • Label: Product Support Tier 1
  • Queue email: [email protected]
  • Supported Objects: select Case and click Add .
  • Queue Members: Click  User: (Your Name) in the Available Members list, and click Add to add yourself to the Selected Members list.
  • Click Save .
  • From the Queue   page, click New  and complete the queue details.
  • Label:   Product Support Tier 2
  • Queue email: [email protected]

Add Queue Members

Now, create the Inquiry queue for inquiry cases.

  • From the Queues page, click New .
  • Enter the queue details.
  • Label: Inquiry
  • Queue Email: [email protected]
  • Queue Members: Click User: Ada Balewa in the Available Members list, and click Add to add her to the Selected Members list.

So, now you have case queues set up and ready to handle different types of cases as they’re created. Next, create and activate a standard case assignment rule to assign cases to the correct team members. This is how cases get sent to specific case queues, like the ones you just created.

  • From Service Setup, enter Case Assignment Rules in the Quick Find box and select Case Assignment Rules .
  • Click New  and enter the rule details.
  • Rule Name: Standard Case Assignment
  • Select the Active checkbox to make this the active case assignment rule.

Add a rule entry that assigns Product Support cases to the Product Support Tier 1 queue.

  • Click the Standard Case Assignment link.
  • Under the Rule Entries, click New  and enter the details.

Create and customize a Case Assignment Rule by entering the rule details.

  • Click Save & New .

Next, add a rule entry that assigns inquiry cases to the Inquiry queue.

  • Enter the details.

Now rename the Automated Case User to System. Every time there’s an automated case change from an assignment rule, for example, the automated case user name will show up in the case history. It will now show an automated “system” change, rather than showing your name as the admin, whenever an automated case change occurs.

  • Enter Support Settings in the Quick Find box and select Support Settings .
  • Click Edit .

Rename the Automated Case User to System

You want to make sure the assignment rules work for Ursa Major Solar by creating a case.

App Launcher Icon

  • Click the Contacts tab.
  • Select Recently Viewed from the dropdown, and click the Pat Stumuller link.
  • In the Cases   related list, click New .
  • Select a record type: Product Support .
  • Click  Next  and enter the case information.
  • Click the Case Number for the case you just created. Ensure that the Case Owner is Product Support Tier 1.

By setting up case queues and assignment rules, cases are now automatically routed to the correct teams. Next, escalate higher priority cases to the Product Support Tier 2 team by creating an Escalation Rule.

Using assignment rules you can automate the process of assigning owners to Leads and Cases. 

Assignment rules description

There are two types of assignment rules in Salesforce: Lead Assignment Rules and Case Assignment Rules.

To better understand Salesforce terminology we’ll give you a short definition of what is a Lead and what is a  Case in Salesforce.

Lead – prospect, someone interested in your product or service, but not yet ready to buy.

Case – customer’s question, complaint, or suggestion about your product or service.

Assignment rules can help you to automatically deliver specific Cases to the right people in the team who are specialized in a certain area so that the customers receive timely and qualified responses.

To create a Case queue in Salesforce, do the following:

  • Setup -> type Queue in the Quick Find box -> enter the Name and Label. 
  • Leave the Queue Email field empty if you want the support employees included in the queue to receive emails when new cases are created or type the email addresses of the people who will receive this kind of notification.
  • Choose Case and add it to the Selected Objects column.
  • Choose members and add them to the Selected Members column -> click Save.

To create a Case assignment rule do the following:

  • Go to Setup -> type Assignment Rules in the Quick Find box -> choose Case Assignment Rules -> click New -> enter the Rule Name and click Save.
  • Click on the rule you just created -> click  New in the Rule Entries section.
  • Sort Order – defines the order in which entries will be processed (entering “1” means that this entry will be processed first).
  • Select the criteria for this rule entry.
  • Choose the User to whom this rule entry will be assigned.
  • Choose the Email Template this user will receive when the new case will be assigned to him -> click Save.
  • Click Edit in the Rule Detail section -> mark this rule as Active ->click Save.

Step 2:  In the Quick Find box, type  Assignment Rules , then select  Case Assignment Rules located under Services.

Step 4:  Enter a  Rule Name  for the case rule. Here, I create the Rule “High Priority Case” .

Step 5:  Activate the rule by clicking the  Activate  button. Activating this rule will deactivate the current case assignment rule automatically as at one time only one rule is activated.

Step 6:  Click  Save  to save the rule.

Step 7:  Select the  Rule Name  and open it to add case assignment rules.

Step 8:  Click  New  to create multiple rule entries under this rule.

Step 9:  Set the  Rule Order  in which these rule entries will process.

Step 10:  Define the criteria that will trigger the rule. This can include fields like case origin, cause status, and cause type. Here, I set the criteria for “Case Priority equal to High” .

Step 11: Specify the user or queue to whom we assign the case when a case meets the criteria. Here, I assign it to the “ User “.

Step 12: Optionally, we can also choose the email template for the case assignment rule.

Step 13: In addition to this, we can select predefined case teams and also replace existing predefined case teams.

Step 14: Click  Save  to save the case assignment rule.

Step 15:  Test the rule by creating a test case that meets the criteria, and ensures that it is assigned correctly.

Note: Always check the checkbox “Assign using active assignment rule” to assign newly created case according to case assignment rule.

Once our case assignment rule is created and tested, Salesforce will automatically assign incoming cases based on the criteria we’ve defined.

Step 1:  Log in to your Salesforce Classic account. Click on  Avtar  and then select  Switch to Salesforce Classic .

Step 10:  Click  New  to create new rule entries.

Step 12: Define the criteria that the lead record must satisfy in order for the rule to be triggered. Any field on the lead record can be used to define your criteria. Here, I set criteria Case Number should be greater or equal to 00001001.

Step 13: Define the actions that should be taken when a case meets the rule criteria such as assigning the case to User, Queue, and Partner User. Here, I define an action that case should be assigned to Case Queue.

Step 14: As an additional option, we can select the email template to whom we want to assign the case assignment rule.

Step 15: We also have the option of choosing predefined case teams or changing the current predefined case teams on the case.

Step 16: To save the case assignment rule, click Save .

Step 17: By developing a test case that meets the requirement, we can confirm that our rule is functioning correctly.

How to Apply Case Assignment Rules in Flow

The case object is a core part of the Salesforce platform. It helps manage and track customer issues and inquiries. You can use this standard object to handle support requests effectively. The case object acts as a central repository for recording and monitoring customer interactions. It allows you to streamline your customer service processes. In order to improve the support efficiency, it is important to assign cases to the right teams or individuals. Although you can manually assign the record, it is possible to use the standard case assignment rules as well. Case assignment rules determine how cases are assigned to users or put into queues.

When you create a new case record, you can just mark "Assign using active assignment rule" to run case assignment rules.

However, if you are creating the case record using Salesforce Flow, there is no standard option to run the case assignment rules. This option exists just for lead assignment rules. Moreover, when you create a case using flow, you have to set the correct owner id. Otherwise, the system doesn't run the case assignment rules and assigns the case to the current user. If you really want to use the logic that you have in your assignment rule, you will have to build the same logic again in the flow.

Hi Yumi, I tried using this on a case after save flow as an immediate action on create and it doesn't work. However, if I add a scheduled path of 0 min after creation, it works. Do you know of this limitation? Thanks!

I'm also noticing that this doesn't work when a guest executes a screen flow from a public page which creates the case.

Is there a way to verify (in a flow decision), using a formula or some other way, if the "Assign using active assignment rule" is checked? I have a user case where the Assignment rules need to be triggered within the flow ONLY when the checkbox "Assign using active assignment rule" is checked, but I cannot find a way to do so. Any ideas?

"Assign using active assignment rule" is not a field on the object, so I think unfortunately it is not possible to get this information.

What are assignment rules in salesforce ?

Assignment rules in salesforce are used to automatically assign lead or Case to owner( User Or Queue ). Assignment rule is used to automate owner assignment on Case and Lead based on conditions on Case or Lead. For example, there could on lead assignment rule for web-generated leads and one case assignment rule for the holiday use.

Types of assignment rules

There are two type of assignment rules

Lead Assignment Rules

Case assignment rules.

Specify how leads are assigned to users or queues as they are created manually, captured from the web, or imported via the Data Import Wizard.

Determine how cases are assigned to users or put into queues as they are created manually, using Web-to-Case, Email-to-Case, On-Demand Email-to-Case, the Self-Service portal, the Customer Portal, Outlook, or Lotus Notes.

Create or Setup assignment rules

  • From Setup, enter Assignment Rules in the  Quick Find  box, then select either  Lead Assignment Rules  or  Case Assignment Rules .
  • Choose  New , and then give the rule a name. Specify whether you want this to be the active rule for leads or cases created manually and via the web and email. Then click  Save .
  • To create the rule entries, click  New . For each entry, you can specify:
  • Order : Sets the order in which the entry will be processed in the rule, for example, 1, 2, 3. Salesforce evaluates each entry in order and tries to match the criteria of the entry. As soon as a match is found, Salesforce processes the item and stops evaluating the rule entries for that item. If no match is found, the item is reassigned to either the default Web-to-Lead owner, the administrator doing a lead import, or the default case owner.
  • Choose criteria are met and select the filter criteria that a record must meet to trigger the rule.For example, set a case filter to Priority equals High if you want case records with the Priority field marked High to trigger the rule. If your organization uses multiple languages, enter filter values in your organization’s default language. You can add up to 25 filter criteria, of up to 255 characters each. When you use picklists to specify filter criteria, the selected values are stored in the organization’s default language. If you edit or clone existing filter criteria, first set the Default Language on the Company Information page to the same language that was used to set the original filter criteria. Otherwise, the filter criteria may not be evaluated as expected.
  • Choose formula evaluates to true and enter a formula that returns a value of “True” or “False.” Salesforce triggers the rule if the formula returns “True.” For example, the formula AND(ISCHANGED( Priority ), ISPICKVAL (Priority, “High”) ) triggers a rule that changes the owner of a case when the Priority field is changed to High. If your condition uses a custom field, the rule entry will be deleted automatically if the custom field is deleted.
  • User : Specifies the user or queue to which the lead or case will be assigned if it matches the condition. Users specified here cannot be marked “inactive” and they must have “Read” permission on leads or cases.
  • Do Not Reassign Owner : Specifies that the current owner on a lead or case will not be reassigned to the lead or case when it is updated.
  • Email Template : We can specifies the template to use for the email that is automatically sent to the new owner. If no template is specified, no email will be sent. When assigning a lead or case to a queue, the notification goes to the Queue Email address specified for the queue and all queue members.
  • Predefined Case Teams : Specifies the predefined case team(s) to add to a case when it matches the condition. A case team is a group of people that work together to solve cases.
  • Replace any existing predefined case teams on the case : Specifies that any existing predefined case teams on the case are replaced with the predefined case teams on the condition, when a case matches the condition.

After creating the entry, click  Save , or  Save & New  to save the entry and create more entries.

Hi! What about when I want my assignment to change when the Lead status is changed? I’ve created two criterias. First when the status is new and second when the status has other values. But when the Lead is updated and the status changes the assignment doesn´t follow this change and it does not assignment the Lead Owner correctly. Thanks.

Assignment rules in Salesforce are basically used to automatically assign Case or Lead to the owner (Queue or User). This assignment rule is used to automate owner assignments on Lead and Case based on conditions on Case and Lead.

Types of Assignment Rule

There are two types of assignment rules .

  •  Lead Assignment Rules
  • Case Assignment Rules

Lead Assignment Rule:

The Lead Assignment rule describes how leads are assigned to queues or users as they are created manually, imported via the Data Import Wizard, or captured from the web.

Case Assignment Rule:

In Case Assignment rule, it specifies how cases are assigned to users or queues as they are created manually, using On-Demand Email-to-Case, Email-to-Case, Web-to-Case, the Customer Portal and Outlook.

Create or Set-up assignment rules

  • From Setup, enter Assignment Rules in the Quick Find box, then select any one assignment rule either Lead Assignment Rule or Case Assignment Rule .
  • Click New , and then give the rule a name. If you want to make it active then check the active box then click Save .
  • To create the rule entries, click New . For each entry, you can specify:
  • Order: Set the order in which the entry will be processed in the rule, for example, 1, 2, 3. It matches the criteria of the entry according to the order. When a match is found, it processes the item.
  • Criteria : Here, write the condition so that when it meets with criteria it automatically assigns to queues or users on Lead/Case.  Enter the rule criteria.
  • User : Choose here either users or queues to assign on Lead/Case.
  • Do Not Reassign Owner : It defines that the current owner on a case or lead will not be reassigned to the case or lead when it is updated.
  • Email Template : You can choose a template to use for the email that is automatically sent to the new owner of Lead/Case. No email will be sent if no template is specified. While assigning a lead or case to a queue, the notification goes to the Queue Email specified for the queue and all queue members.
  • Predefined Case Teams : It describes the predefined case team to add to a case when it matches the condition.

Students and school employees across America will be impacted in the fall by new changes to a rule that affects all federally-funded schools.

Practically, it's a sweeping update to how schools will have to handle sex discrimination and abuse cases. Politically, it's a part of a power struggle between the Trump and Biden administrations.

What's new? The Biden administration released a new set of rules this week overhauling the Trump administration's Title IX rules – which gave more rights to alleged perpetrators of sexual assault and harassment. The new rules also stipulate further protections for LGBTQ+ students as well as parenting and pregnant students.

What is Title IX? Title IX is a civil rights law that bans sex discrimination against students, employees and others at public schools, colleges and universities that receive federal funding.

What were some of the old rules? For cases of sexual assault, they stipulated that schools only had to investigate claims that met a certain threshold of sex discrimination and were made through a formal reporting process. It also raised the bar of proof for sexual misconduct on college campuses. They prohibited investigations of cases that occurred off campus.

Why does the change matter? Critics argued the Trump-era rules prevented people accused of sexual harassment, assault or discrimination from facing repercussions. Supporters contended the rules rightly strengthened due-process protections for accused students or faculty members.

Biden's new Title IX rules will affect people on the nation's school campuses starting in August.

What happened this week?

The Biden administration's new set of guidance overhauls Trump-era rules that in part narrowed which and how schools could investigate sex discrimination cases. President Joe Biden in his 2020 presidential campaign vowed to overturn the changes made under Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.

The new rules expand the definition of sexual assault and harassment. That means schools could investigate more cases of discrimination, abuse or harassment filed by people on school campuses under the scope of the law.

College student survivors will no longer be required to attend live hearings or go through cross examinations. And people will be given the right to "prompt and equitable grievance procedures," the rule reads.

LGBTQ+ students will be guaranteed protection under the law if they are discriminated against for their gender identity or sexual orientation.

Pregnant and parenting students who might receive unwanted sexual attention, shame or punishment at schools will also be granted more protections from sex discrimination in the admissions process and on campus.

“These final regulations build on the legacy of Title IX by clarifying that all our nation’s students can access schools that are safe, welcoming, and respect their rights," said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona.

Who is impacted by the changes to Title IX?

The rule changes have a wide range of effects on students, among the most notable examples:

  • Sexual assault survivors : The new rules will have sweeping effects on survivors of sexual misconduct and those accused of crimes. Among the changes: The definition of sexual assault will be expanded in K-12 schools and colleges.
  • LGBTQ+ students : Biden's Title IX update stipulates protections from sex discrimination based gender identity for the first time.
  • Pregnant and parenting students : The new regulations extend the definition of "sex-based harassment" to include pregnant people on campuses.

Ruling on transgender student participation in sports remains unsettled

The Biden administration did not rule on whether transgender and nonbinary students can participate on the sports teams that align with their gender.

The administration released a proposed rule in April 2023 that said schools and colleges largely could not ban nonbinary and transgender students from sports teams in the new Title IX rules.

FTC bans noncompete agreements, making it easier for workers to quit. Here's what to know.

Federal regulators on Tuesday enacted a nationwide ban on new noncompete agreements, which keep millions of Americans — from minimum-wage earners to CEOs — from switching jobs within their industries.

The Federal Trade Commission on Tuesday afternoon voted 3-to-2 to approve the new rule , which will ban noncompetes for all workers when the regulations take effect in 120 days. For senior executives, existing noncompetes can remain in force. For all other employees, existing noncompetes are not enforceable.

The antitrust and consumer protection agency heard from thousands of people who said they had been harmed by noncompetes, illustrating how the agreements are "robbing people of their economic liberty," FTC Chair Lina Khan said. 

The FTC commissioners voted along party lines, with its two Republicans arguing the agency lacked the jurisdiction to enact the rule and that such moves should be made in Congress. 

Within hours of the vote, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce said it would sue to block "this unnecessary and unlawful rule and put other agencies on notice that such overreach will not go unchecked." The new rule would "undermine American businesses' ability to remain competitive," the trade group, which advocates for U.S. corporations and businesses, said in a statement.

Why it matters

The new rule could impact tens of millions of workers, said Heidi Shierholz, a labor economist and president of the Economic Policy Institute, a left-leaning think tank. 

"For nonunion workers, the only leverage they have is their ability to quit their job," Shierholz told CBS MoneyWatch. "Noncompetes don't just stop you from taking a job — they stop you from starting your own business."

Since  proposing the new rule , the FTC has received more than 26,000 public comments on the regulations. The final rule adopted "would generally prevent most employers from using noncompete clauses," the FTC said in a statement.

The agency's action comes more than two years after President Biden directed the agency to "curtail the unfair use" of noncompetes, under which employees effectively sign away future work opportunities in their industry as a condition of keeping their current job. The president's executive order urged the FTC to target such labor restrictions and others that improperly constrain employees from seeking work.

"The freedom to change jobs is core to economic liberty and to a competitive, thriving economy," Khan said in a statement making the case for axing noncompetes. "Noncompetes block workers from freely switching jobs, depriving them of higher wages and better working conditions, and depriving businesses of a talent pool that they need to build and expand."

A threat to trade secrets?

An estimated 30 million people  — or one in five U.S. workers — are bound by noncompete restrictions, according to the FTC.  The new rule could boost worker wages by a total of nearly $300 billion a year, according to the agency.

Employers who use noncompetes argue that they are needed to protect trade secrets or other confidential information employees might learn in the course of their jobs. 

"It'll represent a sea change," said Amanda Sonneborn, a partner at King & Spalding in Chicago who represents employers that use noncompetes. "They don't want somebody to go to a competitor and take their customer list or take their information about their business strategy to that competitor."

Yet corporations concerned about protecting their intellectual assets can use restraints such as confidentiality agreements and trade secret laws, and don't need to resort to noncompete agreements, the FTC staff determined. 

The commission's final rule does not nullify existing noncompetes with senior executives, who are defined as those earning more than $151,164 a year and who hold a policy-making position. Those execs are much more likely to negotiate the terms of their compensation, according to regulators.  

Still, the FTC is banning new noncompetes for senior executives on the grounds that the agreements stifle competition and discourage employees from creating new businesses, potentially harming consumers.

The idea of using noncompetes to keep business information out of the hands of rivals has proliferated, noted Shierholz, citing a notorious case  involving Jimmy John's eateries .

Low-paid workers are now the hardest hit by restrictive work agreements, which can forbid employees including janitors,  security guards  and  phlebotomists  from leaving their job for better pay even though these entry-level workers are least likely to have access to trade secrets.

Real-life consequences

In laying out its rationale for banishing noncompetes from the labor landscape, the FTC offered real-life examples of how the agreements can hurt workers.

In one case, a single father earned about $11 an hour as a security guard for a Florida firm, but resigned a few weeks after taking the job when his child care fell through. Months later, he took a job as a security guard at a bank, making nearly $15 an hour. But the bank terminated his employment after receiving a letter from the man's prior employer stating he had signed a two-year noncompete.

In another example, a factory manager at a textile company saw his paycheck dry up after the 2008 financial crisis. A rival textile company offered him a better job and a big raise, but his noncompete blocked him from taking it, according to the FTC. A subsequent legal battle took three years, wiping out his savings.

Testimony in Donald Trump’s historic hush money case resumed Tuesday, with prosecutors urging the court to hold the former president in contempt for attacking witnesses and others, and former tabloid impresario David Pecker returning to the stand with details that linked Trump’s circle to a slew of salacious stories.

Earlier, as Trump awaited the hearing over the gag order in the case, his fundraising appeals took on a frantic tone. Deliberations stretched on for more than an hour, but the judge presiding over the case, Juan Merchan, opted to wait and rule later. 

It left in limbo Trump’s assertion that he had not willfully violated the order, as his attorney vowed, and any consequences if the judge rules that he did. And Trump continued to rail against the gag order.

Witness David Pecker returned to the stand

Pecker, the former CEO of AMI and publisher of the National Enquirer, described giving directions to implement an agreement with Trump to help his 2016 presidential campaign. Pecker said the Enquirer had “embellished” stories about some of Trump’s opponents at Michael Cohen’s request, including a piece about the father of Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, being involved in the assassination of John F. Kennedy

The publication had “mashed the photos” together of Lee Harvey Oswald and Cruz’s father, Pecker said, conceding that an article Trump cited repeatedly on the campaign trail was a fabrication.

Prosecutors implicate Steve Bannon — and identify Trump’s alleged ‘primary’ crime 

Under questioning, Pecker recounted how Trump introduced him to Steve Bannon, a top adviser to Trump’s 2016 campaign. He and Bannon “would work well together,” the publisher said Trump told him.

“I believe that you and Steve would get along really well,” Pecker said Trump told him in October 2016. Asked if Bannon had ever pitched him stories, Pecker said Bannon had suggested how a reporter from the National Enquirer could appear on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show to discuss the articles with Hannity.

Doing so would reach an audience of millions. At the time, Fox News had surged to become the most-watched cable news channel, with Hannity, a high-profile Trump ally, enjoying the biggest ratings boost of any host on the network in October that year — a 65% jump over the previous month , according to Nielsen ratings. 

Amid objections from the defense, who said they had no notice that Bannon was being considered a co-conspirator, the prosecution argued that the requests are relevant to the “primary” underlying crime, New York Election Law 17-152.

The law prohibits conspiracies to promote the election of a specific candidate through unlawful means.

Cohen’s involvement 

Pecker said he believed Cohen to be a stand-in for Trump because of how involved he had been in Trump’s business operations and that this continued into the campaign.

He detailed that as the negotiations over buying stories grew, he talked to Cohen daily. Trump’s lawyer, Pecker testified, told him to stop using a landline phone and instead begin using a secure messaging app called Signal, which deletes messages after a period of time.

As Trump’s rivals gained ground during the presidential primary, the National Enquirer would publish stories crafted to impugn their credibility.

“‘Family Man’ Marco Rubio’s Love Child Stunner,” read one headline that is among the exhibits in the trial. Another promised to detail “Senator Marco Rubio’s cocaine connection.” Rubio, a Florida Republican, denied those stories at the time and Pecker suggested that they were published without evidence.

Pecker detailed the scheme like so:

“After the Republican debates, and based on the success that some of the other candidates had, I would receive a call from Michael Cohen, and he would direct me and direct Dylan Howard which candidate and which direction we should go,” he said. “That’s how the process happened.” 

There were other stories designed to offer Trump a boost, including a piece about Trump’s wife, Melania, and “how she inspired Trump to run.” Another claimed that Barack Obama’s half-brother was “cheering on Donald Trump at debate.” 

Conversations with Trump

Pecker explained his relationship “over the years” with Trump, and how he got to know him.

“I would describe Mr. Trump as very knowledgeable. I would describe him very detail-oriented. I would describe him almost micromanaging,” Pecker said, amid a discussion over payments. “Looking at all the aspects of whatever the issue was,” he said.

Pecker later told the courtroom how he and Trump had talked every couple of weeks. On rare occasions, it was Trump’s bodyguard Keith Schiller who would sometimes pass messages to him.

Pecker also testified that he took actions he would not have taken otherwise to protect Trump.

Prosecutor Joshua Steinglass asked if Pecker had paid $30,000 for an untrue story as “a way to lock it up.”

Pecker said that, yes, he sought to bury it to avoid “potential embarrassment” to Trump and was prepared to spend a sum far out of the ordinary to do so. 

Merchan reserved judgment on the gag order

An attorney for the district attorney’s office argued that Trump “seems to be angling” for incarceration by repeatedly and knowingly violating the gag order. Prosecutors had asked that he be held in contempt for attacking witnesses and others in the case, saying that they aren’t asking that Trump be imprisoned but want him fined for at least 10 violations.

The charge came just hours after Trump warned in a fundraising appeal, which he called a “FAREWELL MESSAGE,” that he “could be thrown in jail.”

Trump has been awaiting the hearing on the gag order since last week and, in the meantime, has continued to jab at witnesses in the case outside the courtroom, on his campaign website and on social media.

One New York Post article Trump shared that was cited by prosecutors referred to Cohen as a “serial perjurer [who] will try to prove an old misdemeanor.” Trump, on the first day of the trial, posted it twice on Truth Social and on his campaign website. He did it again the following day.

“The defendant is having his day in court and he is doing everything he can to try to undermine that process,” said prosecutor Chris Conroy. He said the prosecution would file another order arguing statements Trump made about Cohen on Monday in the courthouse hallway also violated the order.

But Trump’s lawyer insisted the gag order had not been willfully violated. He is facing a “barrage” of attacks from people “who can say whatever they want,” while he cannot respond, said Todd Blanche.

Merchan grew visibly frustrated as Blanche continued to make the case for Trump. “He’s saying there are two systems of justice  in this courtroom ?” Merchan asked. Blanche responded, “Yes, your honor. That’s what his message is.” 

The judge pressed Trump’s attorney to show him the exact post that Trump was responding to. “I’ve asked you eight or nine times,” said Merchan. “You’ve been unable to do that even once.” 

Trump, seated at the defense table, kept his eyes closed and appeared disinterested. 

Blanche, asked whether the defense had any other arguments to hand up, responded that they are “trying to comply” with the gag order. “President Trump is being very careful,” he said.

Merchan snapped, “You’re losing all credibility with the court.”
