Why are Conference Certificates Given to Participants?

Certain cultures consider presenting a paper in an international conference to be an honour, and they usually display the conference certificate alongside other diplomas or certifications. In other words, this implies that conference certificates serve as a record of academic or personal achievement. Alternatively, conference certificates can also be used to claim expenses (such as the ones incurred to travel and present). Hence, it is a norm for the organisers to provide conference certificates for its attendees these days. However, not all academic conferences give their participants a conference certificate nor it is legally required to do so.

In this article, we shall explore the basic rules and guidelines to be followed when drafting a conference certificate. We shall also take a look at the commonly used templates and samples of the same.

Conference Certificate – Guidelines

Following are the general guidelines to be followed when drafting a conference certificate.

  • The certificate must be drafted using formal language and tone
  • The name of the conference’s organizer is also to be mentioned
  • The name of the attendee or the presenter must be clearly stated in the certificate
  • The title of the conference, as well as the date it was held, must be mentioned
  • The date of awarding the certificate must be mentioned
  • If required, logos of the organising institutes can be included in the certificate.
  • Lastly, the certificate must contain an authorized signatory.

If you're looking to obtain certificates of participation (for presentation and attendance), you can reach out to the Conference organizers directly. To do so, simply visit the event page on the IEEE.org Conference Search , click on the event title, and then select the "Email Organizers" option.

*Helpful tips for searching on the IEEE.org Conference Search:

  • To search for events that have already taken place, please type an asterisk ( * ) into the search box & click the magnifying glass
  • Select “Refine Search” & choose “Custom Date Range” under the heading “Conference Dates”

In other words, this implies that conference certificates serve as a record of academic or personal achievement. Alternatively, conference certificates can also be used to claim expenses (such as the ones incurred to travel and present). Hence, it is a norm for the organisers to provide conference certificates for its attendees these days. However, not all academic conferences give their participants a conference certificate nor it is legally required to do so.

  • The certificate must be drafted using formal language and tone
  • The name of the conference’s organizer is also to be mentioned
  • The name of the attendee or the presenter must be clearly stated in the certificate
  • The title of the conference, as well as the date it was held, must be mentioned
  • The date of awarding the certificate must be mentioned
  • If required, logos of the organising institutes can be included in the certificate.
