Eligibility Criteria for the Khalifa University Scholarship

To be eligible for the Khalifa University Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Required Language:  English. 
• Eligible Countries: All world countries.
• Master’s Degree Program requirements: – Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree. – English Proficiency Certificate. – Admission Interview.
•  Doctorate Degree Program requirements: – Completion of a Master’s Degree. – Research statement ( 500-1,000  words). – Admission interview.
• Participants can apply for the Full Time as well as Part-Time. But there are Some Requirements for both. Full-time:  Students are required to Register for 3-4 courses each semester (9-12 credit hours or equivalent). Part-time:  Students are required to Register for 2 courses each semester (6 credit hours or equivalent).

Applicants can only apply to one program per semester. 

• Subject to review and approval, the English test score requirement (TOEFL, IELTS or EmSAT) may be waived for an applicant who is:
• A native English speaker who has completed his/her Bachelor’s/Master’s degree qualification in an English-medium institution.
• A minimum overall academic IELTS score of 6.0, or a minimum TOEFL score of 79 iBT (or equivalent), or a minimum EmSAT English score of 1400 at the time of admission to the completed Bachelor’s/Master’s degree program.
• All non-native English-speaking Masters and PhD applicants need to obtain a minimum level of English proficiency in the form of either:
• All applicants must provide evidence of meeting the English language requirement by uploading the relevant document with their application, even if he/she may be eligible for an exemption.

Scholarship

The international graduate student scholarship program offers STEM students a full-ride, a generous tax-free stipend ($2,200-$2,700 per month), health insurance, annual airfare travel to their home country, funding to attend international conferences, and opportunities and access to state-of-the-art research facilities.

International students who receive an admission offer into a graduate degree program at Khalifa University will automatically be qualified for the KU International Graduate Student Scholarship.

The university will assist you in enrolling into a health insurance plan upon your arrival to Abu Dhabi. 

There are on-campus single occupancy apartments available for all students. For 2+ occupancy, there are off-campus housing options available. 

• Students can bring family members to the UAE under the guidelines of their visa. Please note that on-campus housing at Khalifa University is limited to single occupancy only – therefore the student would need to obtain off-campus housing and provide health insurance for anyone other than him/herself. 
• Students will need to follow all procedures and guidelines according to their visa. In most cases, students will obtain a student visa and family members can be listed as dependents. 

Scholarship recipients can work on-campus in various capacities for Khalifa University. 

The Khalifa University onboarding team will be in touch with you to arrange for travel, pick-up, and housing information. 

Upon acceptance of the scholarship, Khalifa University will conduct the arrangements for your visa and send it to you electronically.

Tier I and Tier II:

Khalifa University Scholarships cover the following costs for PhD students:

Research Path (with work commitment): These scholarships are for full-time PhD students only. The University assesses the students for scholarship eligibility annually.

Tier I (Full-Time only):

• A monthly stipend of 20,000 AED
• Additional monthly assistance of 20,000 AED, subject to approval and fulfilling the scholarship progression criteria
• Textbooks by University
• Support for participating in international research conferences (subject to approval)
• Medical insurance for full-time international students sponsored by Khalifa University
• Flight costs between home country and Abu Dhabi for full-time international students (subject to approval)
• UAE visa application costs for full-time international students
• Commitment to work with the University or a nominated unit upon graduation for a period equivalent to the study period.

Tier II (Full-Time only):

• Additional monthly assistance of 10,000 AED, subject to approval and fulfilling the scholarship progression criteria

Tier III (Full-Time only):

• 75% waiver of tuition fees
• Textbooks by the University
• Funding to attend international research conferences (subject to approval)
• Flights ticket between home country and Abu Dhabi for full-time international students (subject to approval)
• UAE visa application fees

Tier IV (Full-Time only):

• Commitment to work with Khalifa University or a nominated entity upon graduation for a period equivalent to the study period.

Study Path (without work commitment):

The University assesses the students for scholarship eligibility annually.

• A monthly stipend of 4,000 AED
• Campus accommodation for eligible full-time students only
• Flights tickets between the home country and Abu Dhabi for full-time
• UAE visa application fees for full-time international students.
• A monthly stipend of 2,000 AED

Eligibility Criteria for the Khalifa University Scholarship

All applicants should meet the following requirements to apply for the Khalifa University Scholarship:

Eligibilities for Master’s degree:

• Applicants must have completed their bachelor’s degree
• Applicants with a good academic record: 3.0 out of 4.0 or equivalent
• Be proficient in English (TOEFL score; 91 iBT, IELTS score: 6.5 or 1550 EmSAT English score
• 150 GRE score for all Master of Science programs
• At least two referee recommendations (provided via online form)
• Statement of purpose (500-1,000 words)
• Admission interview

Eligibilities for PhD:

• Applicants must have completed their Master’s degree
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with at least a CGPA of 3.5 out of 4.0
• A Master’s degree in a relevant field with at least a CGPA of 3.25 out of 4.0 or equivalent from a reputable accredited institution
• Be proficient in English: TOEFL score; IBT 91 or higher; IELTS 6.5 or 1550; EmSAT English score
• 150 GRE is mandatory for all fields
• Research statement (500-1,000 words)

Note Exemptions:

• Those applicants who are native English speakers and studied for their degree in an English-medium institution
• Those applicants who have graduated from a Medium-English institution can submit an IELTS 6.0 or a minimum score of 79 for TOEFL iBT or at least an EmSAT English score of 1400.

Khalifa University of Science and Technology offers a diverse range of scholarships to support international students wishing to enroll in a Master’s or Doctoral program:

Master’s degree

Khalifa University offers three categories of scholarships based on academic merit and other relevant factors :

• Tier 1 and 2 scholarships cover full tuition fees, provide textbooks, offer medical insurance for full-time international students, cover flight expenses, and visa fees.
• Tier 3 scholarships cover half of the tuition fees, provide textbooks, offer medical insurance for full-time international students sponsored by Khalifa University, cover flight expenses, and visa fees.

Khalifa University offers two scholarship tracks for doctoral students: a research track with a work commitment and a study track without a work commitment :

• Tier 1 : full coverage of tuition fees, a monthly stipend of $5,445, an additional monthly allowance of $5,445 (subject to approval), and support to attend international conferences.
• Tier 2 : Full coverage of tuition fees, a monthly stipend of $5,445, an additional monthly allowance of $2,722 (subject to approval), and support to attend international conferences.
• Tier 3 : 75% reduction in tuition fees, a monthly stipend of $5,445, and support to attend international conferences.
• Tier 4 :50% reduction in tuition fees and free university accommodation.
• Tier 1 : Full coverage of tuition fees, a monthly stipend of $1,089, and support to attend international conferences.
• Tier 2 : A 75% reduction in tuition fees, a monthly stipend of $544, and support to attend international conferences.
• Tier 3 : A 50% reduction in tuition fees.

All students are reassessed annually for scholarship eligibility.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates seeking admission to a master’s or doctoral program at Khalifa University must meet the following minimum criteria:

• Have obtained a bachelor’s degree for master’s candidates or a master’s degree for PhDcandidates.
• A minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.0 for master’s candidates and 3.25 for doctoral candidates (equivalent to an upper second-class honor in the French system).
• English proficiency certificate (iBT TOEFL 91, IELTS 6.5, EmSAT English 1550).
• A minimum GRE quantitative score of 150.

Admission Requirements

Master Degree Program Applicants:

• iBT TOEFL (internet-based test) score of 91 or equivalent, or

Doctoral Degree Program Applicants

• NEW REQUIREMENT:  Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 out of 4.0 or equivalent from a reputable accredited institution (for Bachelor’s to PhD direct admission), or
• Completion of a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline with a minimum CGPA of 3.25 out of 4.0 or equivalent from a reputable accredited institution.
• A minimum quantitative score of 150 in the general Graduate Record Examination (GRE).  Applicants must attempt all three sections of the GRE.
• Research statement (500-1,000 words).

English Language Test Exemption

The Language test proficiency may be waived off if the applicant is:

• A native English speaker who has completed his/her Bachelor’s/Master’s degree qualification in an English-medium institution, or
• A graduate from an English-medium institution who can provide evidence of acquiring a minimum overall academic IELTS score of 6.0, or a minimum TOEFL score of 79 iBT (or equivalent), or a minimum EmSAT English score of 1400 at the time of admission to the completed Bachelor’s/Master’s degree program.

Khalifa University of Science and Technology offers the following scholarships to support qualified international students enrolled in undergraduate programs on a full-time basis. The University reserves the right to make changes to the published scholarship benefits and conditions without prior notice.

• The scholarship may consist of full or partial tuition assistance.
• Scholarships for international students are provided for the total degree credits of the program in which they are enrolled. Attempted credits that are beyond the total degree credits and credits that do not count towards the degree will be charged at the full rate per credit tuition fee unless the excess credit is the result of university curriculum changes.
• Upon graduation,  international students on Tier I scholarship undertake to either join one of the University’s graduate programs or to accept employment with the University or any other entity nominated by the University for a period of time which is at least equal to the study period. The decision of whether or not to offer graduate program admission or employment is at the discretion of the University.
• Full coverage of tuition fees.
• Textbooks provided by the University.
• Medical insurance coverage for students sponsored by Khalifa University.
• Coverage of UAE visa application fees.

To retain the Tier I scholarship (100%), student must maintain a CGPA of 3.3 on scale of 4.0. Students who do not maintain this CGPA in a semester will consequently be charged at the full rate per credit tuition fee, as below:

• Partial waiver of tuition fees.
• 75% for College of Science.
• 50% for College of Engineering.
• Coverage of UAE visa application fees

To retain the Tier II scholarship (50% for the College of Engineering or 75% for the College of Science), student must maintain a CGPA of 3.0 on scale of 4.0. Students who do not maintain this CGPA in a semester will consequently be charged at the full rate per credit tuition fee, as below:

Tier III students may receive a tuition waiver if CGPA of 3.8 or above is obtained. the Percentage is provided in the below table:
