Email has become such commonplace in daily life that it’s easy to overlook how powerful it can be as a business tool. This is where you will mention specific details about what the person did and how it helped or affected you. For example, “Your advice has been extremely helpful in my job search.”

Finally, conclude your letter with another expression of thanks and well wishes for the future. For example, “I appreciate your time and consideration.” And don’t forget to sign your name at the end! How to Start Thank You Letter For Assignments

A great way to show your appreciation for someone who has gone above and beyond is to write them a thank you note. But what if you’ve never written one before? Not to worry! Here are a few tips to get you started.

When it comes to choosing stationery, there are endless options available. However, it’s important to select something that reflects your personal style. If you’re unsure where to start, consider opting for a simple card with a handwritten message. Here are some tips:

Be specific about what you’re thanking the client for – general thanks are nice, but specifying exactly what you’re thankful for will remind the client of the value you provided and make them more likely to remember you next time they need similar services.

personalize each letter – Generic form letters are easy to spot, and they make it clear that you’re not really interested in building a relationship with this particular client. Take the time to personalize each letter so that it genuinely reflects your appreciation for working with the client.

keep it short and sweet – Thank-you letters don’t need to be long or overly flowery – in fact, brevity is often appreciated since it shows that you respect the client’s time. Just a few sentences is usually sufficient.

Proofread your letter carefully – A thank-you letter is a reflection of your professionalism, so take the time to proofread it carefully before sending. Make sure there are no typos or grammar errors, and that all of the details are accurate.

Sending a thank you note is a thoughtful way to show how much you appreciate someone’s actions. By following these simple tips, you can easily craft a message that is sure to put a smile on their face!

How to END Thank You Letter For Assignments

Assignments are a great way to get students engaged in learning, but they can also be a lot of work for teachers. One way to make the assignment process more efficient is to use a “Thank You” system. This system allows teachers to quickly and easily acknowledge student work, while also providing feedback on areas that need improvement. To use this system, teachers simply write “Thank You” at the top of each assignment. When the assignment is complete, students can then bring their work back to the teacher for a grade. This system saves time and energy for both teachers and students, while also ensuring that all assignments are graded fairly. Thank you for using this system!

TFTH is such an assignment help site among the influx of such websites on the internet. But is it reliable enough to deliver quality for you? Read on to get a general overview of the website as reflected from the student’s testimonials and reviews.

Another Top Rated Assignment Writing Services by Students in 2023

Finding the right website for your assignment is time-consuming, so Topassignmentreviews.com looked at dozens of options to come up with the following recommendations.

Your feedback is valuable for others

Similar writing services review, how can i trust these reviews about tfth.

The reviews provided for TFTH are all fake because their assignment quality is so poor that I failed in my term paper. This happened for the first time in my entire study. Furthermore, they take money for doing the assignments but do not provide us even the solution and ask for more money as they approach the deadline.

Is TFTH Legit?

TFTH is a scam website. They collected my money for assignment assistance but did not provide me with a solution. Their customer service is likewise ineffective. They didn't answer my emails, and when they did, it was only to say that they couldn't help me with my order.

Is TFTH Safe?

No, this company is not safe and is a complete fraud. My literature review assignment received an F. The writer claimed to have updated it, but I received the same paper. I submitted my completed work to my school's writing lab/tutoring. However, the substance received an F. There are so many difficulties with grammar and sentence construction. The additional money you pay for a good writer is also a ruse. I didn't get one of the best writers.

Is TFTH Fraud?

This company is completely a fraud. Please do not waste your money, time, or effort. This is the worst assignment service I've ever encountered. I gave them 15 days to complete my homework, and they did a terrible job, with nothing matching the assignment criteria. Instead, they copied and pasted theories off the internet to give me an assignment that would only receive an N.

Is TFTH Reliable?

TFTH service is very unreliable, and the writing is of poor quality. For example, I needed a four-page, double-spaced coursework paper completed in four days. They assigned a writer to my order, and when the deadline approached, they sent me a request for an extension. I gave them another five hours. They then cancelled my order without giving me any notice or sending me an email. I will never order from them again. I strongly advise against utilising these.

How I get a refund from TFTH?

Please do not trust them; I requested a review and have been waiting for the file for more than 6 days; the deadline has passed, and they gave a 100% plagiarised solution. When I asked them for a plagiarism report, they gave me a fake report. Then I asked then for a refund and refused to refund my money.

Unsatisfactory overall. Before order everybody should beware from them.

Never go here

Pathetic people, such an idi** agent on live chat! zero% hospitality

Unacceptable

Asked them for helping a stat exam, none of the answers is correct. Although this is the urgent one still 0% correction rate is unacceptable.

Unreliable service

I ordered a coursework paper 4 pages long, double spaced to be done in four days. They assigned a writer who was working on my order and on the due date they sent me a request for extension. I gave them 5 more hours. After that they cancelled my order without any notice or email. Very unreliable service, low quality writing. I will not order ever again from them. Definitely do not recommend using them.

Not responsive

I can't describe how bad this service is. Quoted £300 and then went down £160 for a HTML and CSS assignment. Criteria provided including screenshots. Advised it would be ready by Wednesday. Wednesday came. They didn't follow basic instructions. Friday came. Wasn't responsive. Saturday came still wrong. Finally Sunday and it was clearer they had no idea.

Terrible quality

My experience is that their work is rushed and sloppy. Some of the "facts" presented in the writing I bought were blatantly false and the cited text did not exist. The rewrites were worse than the original. Also, I found one of the papers I bought posted on coursehero.com. I requested a refund but they never replied. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!

Horrible Experience Frauds

Please save your money, time and efforts. This is the worst assignment company ever. I gave my assignment 15 days prior, they did horrible work, nothing matches the assignment criteria. They simply copy-pasted theories from the internet to give me an assignment which would get nothing more than N. Please never trust them, asked them for a review still waiting on the file for more than 6 days, already past deadline, not ready to return money. In addition, have stopped replying to my emails and messages. Please never trust them. SAVE YOUR MONEY, SAVE YOUR TIME, DON'T BELIEVE IN THESE CHEATERS

100% plagiarism

They are 100% plagiarism, they rewrite my paper what was written by another writer online in the same topic, in my case I found the same article online written by another student without citing the sources and when I requested a source (screenshot), I notice they are using a fake source, it cost me $ 130 for nothing I got F for fake sources and no money back according there policy, stay away.

Please don't waste your money with this company, they're a joke. I made an F on my literature review assignment. The writer said he revised it, but I ended up getting the same exact paper. I took my finished paper to my schools writing lab/tutoring and I still got an F for the content. So many grammar and sentence structure issues. The extra money you pay for a top writer is a scam as well. I didn't get a top writer.

Complete waste of money

There is no discount for regular assignment orders at tfth. And if you still place an order there, you will still get a below-average solution. I have availed their services and suffered. Don't make the same mistake. Place your order somewhere else.

Bunch of frauds

Tfth is a fraud website. They took my money for assignment help but did not deliver my solution. Their customer support is also useless. They did not respond to my mails, and when they did, they did not help me with my order.

Very poor service

I gave one of my assignment to this team and I was not at all satisfied with the work. It have lot of grammatical mistakes, spelling mistakes and some points are out of context. They didn't even proof read it properly. The report have so many mistakes and even it was based on a case study. I will not recommend this team to any other people

Awful paper, Lost 300$ for 3 papers

I have never let anyone write my papers, but I had a family emergency and needed to have these papers done. When I looked up this company, I was guaranteed best services, I am in my senior year and needed professional paper, they guaranteed me best result! However, The Writer did not follow anything regarding APA style, multiple grammar and typos error the professor give me 61% for my paper! If I had a high school kid to write it for me I would have had a better service and better price! Straight up rip off!,

Waste of money

After 2 weeks the writer send message and apologies he can't do the work. While the support reponse is very slow and thier answer useless, now 1 month order in progress and i don't think they start on it. There is auto generate message will tell you that you hear from them soon, dont count on it.

Worst writing service

The site is a scam and i would never recommend to any person. I did use it for around two months only for the rude account manager AMANDA to suspend and lie that they will send money and they never sent my balances. SCAM.

My money deducted

My money deducted 71.08, can not believe this cheating services

How to Write a Meaningful Thank You Note

  • Christopher Littlefield

thanks for the help assignment

Sample messages from common workplace scenarios.

Many of us fear expressing our thanks to others. We might worry that our efforts will be misinterpreted or make the person on the receiving end uncomfortable. Or we might struggle to find the right words to express how we feel. Here’s how to do it right.

  • Keep it genuine : The goal of expressing appreciation should be to let someone know how their actions have impacted you and/or others. If you have any other agenda, your message will not be authentic.
  • Share what you appreciate and why : Focus on the impact their actions had on you and explain both  what you appreciate and why . This will help the other person understand the reason you feel the way you do.
  • Send it : E-mails get lost and handwritten cards get saved. Write your message on a piece of paper, post-it note, or card and give it directly to the person. If you are at work, you can also leave it on their desk or in their “mailbox.”

We all want to be appreciated. Whether you’ve accepted a task while your plate is already full, worked through weekends to get a project off the ground, or simply been there for a work friend when they needed your support, an acknowledgement or “thank you” can go a long way in making us feel good about the efforts we put in — and the research supports this.

How to write a thank you email with 39 samples and template

Wondering how to say thank you? Our thank you email template and 30 thank you email examples will help you say thank you meaningfully.

How to write a thank you email

Saying thanks is an email superpower. Take the time to write and send a thank you, and you could change someone's day.

Thank you emails build someone’s confidence – and it's only polite to say thanks if someone has helped you.

The purpose of every thank you email is to express gratitude. Of course, you'll want to carefully consider the audience and let that influence the positive tone of voice.

Ultimately, sending a thank you email is about making someone smile.

Thank you emails are awesome to receive and easy to write and send with our guide. We go through the basics of the thank you email format (showing you how to run the fine line between formal and informal) and provide 39 expertly crafted examples to show you how it's done.

Want more? We've also created the best thank you email template available.

Thank you email format

A thank you email could be as short as two words: thank you. But you'll want to explain why you're saying thank you and the positive impact their actions have had on you.

There are no limits on the length of emails; write something long enough to give an appropriate thank you.

Ensure emails are formatted correctly (with proper spacing, punctuation, and grammar) and written in professional language.

There are three elements common to every thank you email:

  • Subject line

We go through each in order, building up a template thank you email suitable for all situations.

1. Thank you email subject line

Let's start with a few key principles. Thank you message subject lines should be brief and specific. They should include a few keywords that explain what you're saying and why. And, of course, the subject line should convey appreciation (if not, why are you sending it?).

Here are some example thank you email subject lines we're sending for a partner who has managed to secure us a great deal:

  • Thank you for your hard work!
  • Thanks for the new contract
  • Appreciate your hard work in negotiations!
  • Congratulations on securing the new contract ‍
  • Thanks for interviewing me today
  • Steve, it was a pleasure meeting you!

Sometimes you'll want to use your thank you emails to encourage more engagements. That's possible too:

  • Was awesome chatting with you – shall we schedule a meeting ?

2. Thank you email body

Let's get into the meat (or filling , if you're a vegetarian) of this thank you email sandwich. The thank you email body should use clear and concise language to express gratitude. Take the time to personalize the message, adding specific details and examples. This shows sincerity and enthusiasm that you won't get it if you send a cookie-cutter response.

You might want to offer a gift or return a favor. If that's the case, be sure to add your details. Here's an example thank you email body...

  • Thank you for all your hard work in securing us a great new deal.
  • All of us at (company name) wanted to single you out for all your hard work and dedication. We would never have got the deal over the line without your commitment and support. To say thank you, we would like to send you a token of our appreciation. Can you share your address?

3. How to end a thank you email

You've said thank you and offered a gift; now let's close off our thank you email. It's important to close with professionalism and provide your contact details. You may choose to reiterate why you're grateful or end with another thanks – it’s up to you.

Here is an example of how to end our sample thank you message to our super salesperson.

  • We're excited to build on our relationship with you and your company. Once again, thank you for all your efforts in making this happen.
  • It would be great to stay in touch, and I've included my contact details below.
  • I wish you well with the rest of your day.

You can use a template when writing a thank you note or email. You can aim for 2 to 4 sentences. Or, if you have a lot to say, a longer letter is acceptable.

Dear Person’s Name,

Thank you for your support. I am grateful for [describe the support received]—[Say a compliment or what the support means to you].

Tips for Saying Thank You for Your Support

  • Finding the right words is the hardest part of expressing your appreciation. There will be many sample messages that use the template below. Ideally, you want your message to feel personal.
  • It’s all about context. The wording will vary depending on who you are thanking and what kind of support they gave you. And you want to choose that sound like something you would write (and not something you copied and pasted from the Internet).e.
  • Short is okay. A one-sentence thank you is better than not saying thank you at all.
  • Check your grammar. Use Grammarly (free or paid version) to ensure perfect grammar.

Also, support can come in many forms. You may also want to read through the examples in these other support posts:

12 Best Ways to Say “Thank You for Your Help”

“Thank you for your help” is a polite way to accept someone’s help. It works professionally, but there are plenty of other ways to thank someone for what they’ve done for you. This article will explore some good synonyms you can use for this simple phrase.

Best Ways to Say “Thank You for Your Help”

The preferred alternatives are “I appreciate the help you’ve given me,” “I owe you so much,” and “I couldn’t have done this without you.” These phrases are great ways to appreciate someone’s input. They also work in formal emails if you’re looking to be polite to someone.

I Appreciate The Help You’ve Given Me

“I appreciate the help you’ve given me” is a versatile synonym. It works as both a statement and in an email. You can use it to show that you’re really grateful for the things someone might have done for you.

As a statement, it looks like this:

  • I appreciate the help you’ve given me. Truly, I don’t think I ever would have been able to do something like this without you.
  • I appreciate the help you’ve given me, and I’d love to return the favor. Is there anything I can do that would make life easier for you?
  • I appreciate the help you’ve given me. I’d love for us to remain close after this. Can I have your number to contact you?

If you would rather see it as an email, you could phrase it like so:

  • I appreciate the help you’ve given me. I couldn’t have done this without you.
  • All the best ,

I Owe You So Much

“I owe you so much” is a great alternative. It isn’t a popular choice in formal emails because it’s a very personal statement. Nevertheless, you can use it when you’re speaking to someone who’s helped you a lot and you want to appreciate what they’ve done.

It’s best to avoid this one in an email unless you’re really close with the recipient. It doesn’t make much sense in business English because of the personal tone that comes with it.

  • I owe you so much, and I hope you know that. I hope you know that you’ve done so much for me. I’ll never forget you.
  • I owe you so much, and I want to repay the favor. I hope there’s something you might need from me one day that I can help with.
  • I owe you so much. I won’t deny that. I’ll never forget what you’ve sacrificed to help me through this right now.

I Couldn’t Have Done This Without You

“I couldn’t have done this without you” is a great choice for both emails and regular writing. You can use it to show that you are appreciative that someone offered to help you however they did.

Standard writing would use this phrase as follows :

  • I couldn’t have done this without you, to be honest. I’m glad that I have a friend like you in my corner to help me through this.
  • I couldn’t have done this without you. That’s all I’m saying. I’d love a chance to repay you for what you’ve done here.
  • I couldn’t have done this without you. I hope you know that. I really value our friendship, and I hope we can keep that going.

An email would work like this:

  • Dear Mr. Carter,
  • I couldn’t have done this without you. You’ve given me a lot to think about!
  • Kind regards,

I Appreciate Everything You’ve Done

“I appreciate everything you’ve done” is a simple and polite statement. It works well when you’re trying to show someone that they mean a lot to you. If you’re grateful for what they’ve done to help you, this phrase works well.

  • I appreciate everything you’ve done for me. I want you to know that I’d happily do the same for you. If you need me, I’ll be there.
  • I appreciate everything you’ve done. Let me know if there’s anything I can do in return. I want to make sure you’re happy.
  • I appreciate everything you’ve done, really. I think you already know that, but I felt like I should at least say something.

I Appreciate Your Kindness

“I appreciate your kindness” is another good formal choice. You might find this one works well in emails, but you can also say (or write) it in formal contexts where it works best.

Here are some formal contexts that utilize this phrase:

  • I appreciate your kindness. I didn’t think there was anyone left out there that would be willing to help me through this. I appreciate you.
  • I appreciated your kindness when I needed it the most. I want you to know that I’ll be forever grateful.
  • I appreciate your kindness. I always knew that I could count on you, but I don’t think I realized just how deep that goes.

And in an email, it could work like so:

  • Dear Mrs. Barrowmore,
  • I appreciate your kindness. I’ll let you know if there’s anything else I need from you.
  • Best wishes,

Thank You So Much

“Thank you so much” is such a simple phrase that it works in any context. You can use it professionally or informally, depending on how you want it to come across.

Here are some informal examples to help you out:

  • Thank you so much. You have no idea how much this means to me. I wish there was something I could do to repay you.
  • Thank you so much. I want you to know that you’ve really helped me here. Without you, this wouldn’t have been made possible.
  • Thank you so much. If there’s anything I can do to get you back for this, don’t hesitate to ask. I’m here for you.

And a quick, professional email would look like this:

  • Dear ma’am,
  • Thank you so much. I knew you would be able to help me with this.
  • All the best,

I’ll Never Forget This

“I’ll never forget this” is a great statement you can use. It’s not effective in formal emails, but it’s a great thing to say to your friends. It shows that you will always remember the effort they put into helping you.

  • I’ll never forget this. To be honest, nobody has ever been this kind and helpful to me. You are the first to show that you care.
  • I’ll never forget this, man. You’re the best friend a guy could ever ask for. I’ll always be here to help you if you need me.
  • I’ll never forget this. Nobody has offered to help me out the way you just have. I hope we can find a way to get through this.

Let Me Know If There’s Anything I Can Do In Return

“Let me know if there’s anything I can do in return” is a great way to show that you want to help someone for helping you. It lets them know that you’re prepared to do something if they find anything that they may need help with.

  • Let me know if there’s anything I can do in return. I feel like I owe you so much, and I wouldn’t feel right without returning the help.
  • Let me know if there’s anything I can do in return. I want to be just as helpful to you as you are to me.
  • Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help you out. I would love a chance to prove myself to you if you need me.

I Owe You One For Helping Me

“I owe you one for helping me” is a colloquial statement you can use. “I owe you one” implies you’ll return the favor to someone when you get a chance.

  • I owe you one for helping me. Seriously, I thought this was a bit of a lost cause. I didn’t think it was going to go this well.
  • I owe you one for helping me. That’s all I’m saying. I hope you’ll be able to let me into more elements of your life going forward.
  • I owe you one for helping me. I don’t want you to forget that. If you need me in the future, you best believe I’ll be there.

Write Them A Personal Thank You Note

You don’t have to worry about specific phrases, either. Sometimes, the best thing you can do to thank someone for their help is to write them a personalized note. This is a great way to show them that their actions meant a lot to you.

If you’re not sure how to create a thank you note, you could take a look at the following idea:

  • To Matthew,
  • Thank you so much for all the help you gave me.
  • I’m not sure how I would have gotten through college without you.
  • If there’s anything I can do for you, please let me know .
  • I look forward to seeing you again soon.
  • Thank you again,

As you can see, thank you notes are similar to an email or letter format. They are used to say “thank you” in the best way you can.

Give Them A Gift To Say Thank You

You might also find that giving someone a gift is a suitable way to thank them for their help. You won’t need to include any specific words with this one. Just get them something that you think will make them feel good for helping you.

Show That You’re Grateful Through Your Actions

If you don’t want to give someone a gift or send them a thank you card, there’s one other option. You could express your gratitude through simple (or lavish) actions.

Some people like it when you do things to show them that you care. If you know that someone like this has helped you, it might be worth doing things for them that show them how much they mean to you.

thanks for the help assignment

Have you ever struggled to find the right words to express your gratitude?

I've been a freelancer for years, and have had to formulate some of my business processes at work.

One of these processes involve sending a thank you email, and through the years I must have sent hundreds of those.

These phrases work well in thank-you emails:

🙏🏽 I appreciate your assistance. 🙏🏽 Many thanks for giving me this opportunity. 🙏🏽 Thank you for referring [name] to me. 🙏🏽 I'd like to thank you for assisting. I sincerely appreciate it.

It's hard to find the perfect words to express your gratitude in a thank you email. The right approach, however, can make your thank you email sincere and meaningful.

Professional thank you emails are the most sincere form of expressing gratitude. They’re also a great way to rekindle conversations/start a long-term professional relationships with people, especially online. Before writing your thank you email, it helps to know the reason for the email (feedback, consultation, providing work), the result you are after (jobs, growth, referrals), and the next steps that you expect the recipient to do.

I’m working with a dream client, all because of you!

This blog goes into detail about the following:

How to say "thank you" professionally👇 (including emojis!)

Any time someone helps you with referrals, feedback, introductions—or anything that makes an impact—make sure you thank them.

Here are some phrases to replace the generic "thank you":

  • I appreciate your assistance.
  • Many thanks for giving me this opportunity.
  • Thank you for referring [name] to me / Thank you for referring me to [name].
  • I'd like to thank you for assisting in [service]. I sincerely appreciate it.

Beyond the simple thank you, these are a few common thank you emails:

Thank you for showing up

Sending over a quick thank you note for showing up is a good way to become memorable.

  • For showing up at a physical meeting - "Pleasure meeting you! 😄"
  • Experience on a meet-and-greet - "Your recent meetup really meant a lot to me!"

Showing gratitude for help

If someone helped you land a client, or improve your quality of work, email them. The key here is to be formal and show the direct correlation between their tips and your work.

  • Landing a Job - "I'm truly grateful for helping me get this job!"
  • Public appreciation - "Appreciate the shout-out! 🙏 "
  • Feedback - "Your feedback really helped!"

Thanking for the indirect impact

People can have a positive impact on your life without any notice. You read a motivating blog, got new leads from a newsletter, or were inspired by a story—draft a nice appreciation email.

  • Social media posts/video - "Your recent post really blew my mind! 🤯 "
  • Newsletter - "I really loved reading your recent newsletter"

Examples of professional thank you emails

You can make a thank you email more intriguing than you think. Here are the examples from my inbox for some inspiration with checklists and done-for-you templates. I used them to build robust relationships across different verticals.

Professional thank you email for support

There are multiple situations wherein you would send this email: After getting helpful tech support, after a meaningful event or workshop, after getting a favor from a colleague, recieving guidance from a mentor, after a purchase or after getting feedback. Here is the format:

Subject: Thank You for Your Support Dear [Recipient's Name], I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for the support you've provided. Your assistance has been invaluable to me during this time. Your expertise and timely responses have greatly contributed to the progress and success of our project. It's a pleasure working with someone so dedicated and knowledgeable. Thank you once again for your unwavering support. I look forward to our continued collaboration.

Time is a luxury. If someone reserves that time to meet you or converse with you—show them you respect them and want to continue these meetups.

For showing up in a physical meeting

If you recently met a prospective client or a mentor for a coffee session or discussion—this email is the best way to follow up. I send this email after every meeting to recall what we discussed and leave an impact on the recipient.

The key in this email is to not sound too pushy by sending a lengthy essay. Show them you paid attention by outlining the important points.

  • The intro should address why you’re saying thank you.
  • A specific part of the conversation or meet-up that you loved is a must, or the email might sound superficial.
  • Sign off with a question to keep the convo going and score another meet-up! (fingers crossed)
Subject Line: Your time is precious, thank you! Content Body: Hi Tess, Thank you for taking out time from your stringent schedule and meeting me. I gained so much insight into the SaaS industry with you today. I was riveted by your POV about Slack as a content distribution channel for the SaaS B2B brands and how you condensed the whole idea into your ebook. It’s like Carl Theodor von Unlanski said, “Great minds, think alike”. There’s still so much I want to talk with you about.  Sign off: Did you like the place we visited? Regards, Bani ‍

Meet and greets are the next big thing for networking right now. When you meet an idol through one of these, try to make an impact. Send them an email on how you intend to carry forward their teachings or what you loved about their work.

  • Use bullet points to outline the best parts.
  • Sign off by showing you’re eager for another meet-up.
Subject line: My dream meetup Hi Emma, Body Content ‍ You’re a vision! Your recent meet-up in Delhi was all I needed to attain more clarity about writing long-form content.  Here are some highlights of the event that I’ll be religiously following: - Using SME interviews and reports to find pain points and create rich-feature snippets - Using the AIDA and PAS approach to form cohesive pieces - Client reviews to reflect real-life solutions for clients and forging trust The way you broke down the structure of your own work into a presentation to explain their importance was commendable, and I cannot wait to attend more of these. It can be difficult to make a blog flow as a B2B SaaS content writer, but you've shared useful insights that will help me get the job done. Sign off: Thank you for this opportunity to learn from you. Crafting the Perfect Thank You Note

Choosing the right card or paper.

Selecting the right card or paper is the first step to create a heartfelt thank-you note. You can consider the recipient’s preference, occasion, or your relationship with that person. For more formal occasions, it’s important to go for a high-quality, heavier paper. For a casual and fun note to a friend, you might want to choose a card with a quirky design or a pop of color.

Personalizing Your Message

It’s important to write a message tailored to the recipient to make them feel truly appreciated. Start by addressing them by their name, and then move on to acknowledge the specific reason for your gratitude. For instance, you could write,

Dear Jane, I wanted to extend my genuine appreciation for the lovely dinner party you hosted last weekend. It was a delightful evening spent with great company, delicious food, and engaging conversations.

Including a personal anecdote or commenting on a particular detail can make your note feel more meaningful and sincere. It will show that you truly paid attention and valued their effort or gift. For example:

My favorite part was your homemade tiramisu—it reminded me of our shared trip to Italy!

Expressing Sincere Appreciation

To truly show the depth of your gratitude, it’s essential to express your feelings honestly and warmly. Use phrases that are authentic, and avoid excessive flattery or hyperbole. Some examples of sincere appreciation might be:

  • I am so grateful for…
  • Your kindness means a lot to me.
  • I truly appreciate your support.

As you close your note, consider reemphasizing your appreciation or mentioning any future interactions you may have with the recipient. This can help leave a lasting impression and strengthen your relationship. For instance:

Thank you once again for a memorable evening. I’m really looking forward to our next get-together in April! Warm regards, [Your name]

By putting thought and effort into crafting the perfect thank-you note, you can express your genuine gratitude and foster stronger connections with those who have shown you kindness and support.

Writing Thank You Emails

Subject line best practices.

When writing a thank you email, start with a subject line that clearly reflects your intention. This eliminates any confusion and ensures that your recipient knows what to expect when they open your email. Some examples of effective thank you email subject lines include:

  • “Thank You for Your Support in Our Project”
  • “Expressing My Gratitude for Your Guidance”
  • “Appreciating Your Efforts in the Team”
  • “A Sincere Thank You for Your Valuable Advice”

Email Structure and Etiquette

  • Opening salutation : Start your thank you email with a warm and friendly greeting. Keep it professional by using the recipient’s preferred salutation, like “Dear [Name]” or “Hi [Name],” depending on your relationship with that person.
  • Express your gratitude : Be sincere and specific in expressing your appreciation. Mention the specific help or support the recipient provided and the effect it had on you or your project.

Example : “I am writing to express my gratitude for your guidance during the recent team meeting. Your insights on effective communication were truly helpful and it made a significant difference in the way I approached my team members.”

  • Provide further context, if necessary : If you wish to elaborate on the positive impact your recipient’s support had on you, feel free to give more examples or share your personal experiences. This adds more depth to your thank you email.

Example : “Since applying your advice, I have noticed improved collaboration within my team and our productivity has greatly increased.”

  • Closing statement : End your thank you email with a simple closing statement that reiterates your appreciation.

Example : “Once again, thank you so much for your invaluable support.”

  • Sign off : Choose an appropriate sign off like “Best regards,” “Kind regards,” or “Sincerely,” followed by your name.

In summary, a well-structured thank you email consists of a clear subject line, warm salutation, specific expression of gratitude, any additional context if necessary, a closing statement, and an appropriate sign off. By following these simple guidelines, you will effectively convey your appreciation and gratitude.

Sending Your Thanks

Timing your message.

It’s important to send a thank-you note as soon as possible after receiving help or support. Ideally, you should send your message within 24 to 48 hours. This ensures that both the gesture and your gratitude are fresh in everyone’s mind. For example, if someone helped you move to a new apartment, it’s a good practice to send them a thank-you message the following day.

However, if you’re unable to send your message within this time frame, it’s still better to send a late thank-you note than not sending one at all. People generally appreciate being acknowledged, and they’ll understand if your message is delayed.

Delivery Methods

There are several ways to deliver your thank-you message, each with its own advantages. The key is to choose a method that reflects the relationship with the person and matches the nature of the support received.

  • Handwritten notes: This approach is perfect for expressing thanks in a personal and heartfelt manner. For instance, you can draft a handwritten note to thank a friend for their emotional support during a tough time.
  • Email: Email is a quick and efficient way to show your appreciation, particularly in business environments. If a colleague connected you with a valuable contact, an email thank-you note allows you to promptly express your gratitude.
  • Text message or messaging app: For quick, informal acknowledgments, a text message or using a messaging app is an appropriate choice. If someone picked up your lunch or coffee, a brief thank-you text can convey your appreciation.
  • Phone call or video call: In cases where you want to express gratitude in a more personal way, making a phone call or a video call allows you to communicate your appreciation directly. This is a great option when thanking someone for a significant favor, like helping you plan an event.

Sample Thank-You Notes for Help Completing a Project

thanks for the help assignment

How to Write Your Thank-You Note

What to include in a thank-you note, words and phrases to say thanks and show appreciation, thank-you email examples, sample thank-you card.

Bailey Mariner / The Balance

It's always a good idea to say thank you. Just as you would send a friend a thank-you note or email for lending a hand or doing you a favor, it's also a kind gesture to send a quick note to colleagues after a project's successful completion, particularly if those colleagues dedicated a lot of time and energy to the project.

Whether it's a co-worker or someone you manage, a note of appreciation is always welcome. Your thank-you note does not need to be formal or lengthy—just make sure it includes your gratitude.

If you want to do something extra special—and if it's appropriate in your company—you can copy the person's manager on the note or email.

That way, the manager (who most likely has the power to give raises, bonuses, and promotions) is aware of your colleague's help as well.

Depending on the circumstances, you might want to send a letter, card, or note by mail to thank your colleague for the help he or she gave you on a project. Sending a paper thank-you note can be a nice touch, and will show you spent some extra time preparing your correspondence.

A card to put on a bulletin board or desk is a lasting reminder of appreciation and also serves as a hard copy record for the person's files. If you are handwriting your note, remember to include the date on the top right side of the note.

Email is also a perfectly fine way to express appreciation. However you decide to send your thanks, your letter will contain the same elements.

You should begin with a salutation. Depending on your relationship, you might choose “Dear” or “Hi” since this is an informal note between colleagues. As in all business correspondence, don’t use abbreviations or slang. The note can be informal, but all work-related correspondence needs to maintain a professional tone.

Body of Email or Note

The body of your letter should mention a few ways the person's expertise was valuable to your project. For example, you can mention how much you appreciate the time the person took out of his or her busy schedule to offer assistance.

If there's something specific that the person did to make the project a success, be sure to mention it.

In your closing, it’s always nice if you can offer to reciprocate in some way. Otherwise, you can just share your gratitude and pleasure about having the opportunity to work with the person on this particular project.

Then end your letter with a complimentary close , followed by your signature.

Consider using these general words and phrases as you thank your colleague for help completing a project:

  • Thank you so much.
  • I appreciate your help.
  • I appreciate your time.
  • I sincerely appreciate...
  • Thank you for your assistance.
  • Thank you for your support.
  • Thank you for your time.

Here are sample email messages or letters that thank an employee for help with a project. Use these examples as a guideline when creating your own letter or message, and include specific details about how the person helped out.

What is an Acknowledgment?

Every assignment  or project must include an acknowledgment. An acknowledgment is a brief piece of writing produced with the intention of thanking everyone who helped you or your group get through the challenges and finish the task. Expressing your gratitude to those who have been directly or indirectly engaged in completing your work is always regarded as polite.

Guidelines for Writing Acknowledgements

Make sure you have the following information on hand before you begin writing your assignment's acknowledgment .

  • Not all the names of those who have offered you assistance, either directly or indirectly, or advice on how to complete the job.
  • By placing the names of the most significant individuals at the start of the recognition, you can ensure that you mention the names of the persons in a logical order.
  • Briefly describe how their encouragement and assistance helped you finish the assignment.
  • Avoid overusing lofty terms in the acknowledgment. So that it is straightforward to understand, keep it as simple as you can.
  • No matter how minor a part they may have played in assisting you with the project, be sure to thank everyone who has contributed to the process. You can thank everyone individually if the list is lengthy.
  • The acknowledgment should seem serious and businesslike above everything else.

Acknowledgment for Assignments

To keep things focused when writing an acknowledgment page , it is crucial to follow these procedures:

Adopt the proper tone. Your writing style may vary depending on whether you want to thank a college professor in a standard term paper or a dissertation. It could be necessary to discuss the difficulties of a technological project and describe the types of contributions made. Maintain a professional tone!

Start by compiling a list of significant mentors and contributors to your research. Tell us why.

Depending on your line of work, institution, organizations, etc., mention other assistants.

Discuss the grants and financial assistance you have gotten.

If appropriate, the following portion should be friendlier and more personal.

10 Professional Ways to Say “Thank You for the Information”

thanks for the help assignment

Appreciation goes a long way. It’s polite and professional.

Therefore, you should share your appreciation when someone provides an update or information in an email.

You may want to say “thank you for the information.” However, other formal synonyms will help you to branch out. And this article has gathered all of the best ones!

Is It Polite to Say “Thank You for the Information”?

It is polite to say “thank you for the information.” It’s a sincere and professional way to show genuine appreciation when someone provides an update for you.

It’s also a popular choice in formal emails. That’s why we recommend including it to show you’re happy to hear from someone when they provide news.

This sample should help you understand it better:

Thank you for the information . I’ll be sure to relay this to my team to find out their thoughts.

  • It’s polite and appreciative.
  • It carries a more formal tone, making it suitable for emails.
  • It’s a bit impersonal.
  • It’s overused and generic.

Clearly, “thank you for the information” is one of the best phrases to use in formal emails.

That doesn’t mean you can’t explore some alternatives to mix things up, though.

Keep reading to learn how to say “thank you for the information” in an email. You can also review the examples we provide under each heading.

What to Say Instead of “Thank You for the Information”

  • I appreciate the information
  • Thanks for providing that information
  • I appreciate your sharing this information
  • Thanks so much for the update
  • Your input has been incredibly helpful
  • I’m grateful for your update
  • Thank you for enlightening me
  • Your update is greatly appreciated
  • Thank you for keeping me informed
  • Thanks for keeping me in the loop

1. I Appreciate the Information

Using “appreciate” instead of “thank you” is always a more formal choice. Most writers include “I appreciate the information” to sound more formal than “thank you for the information.”

That’s why this phrase works as well as it does. It’s respectful and polite , showing that you’re glad someone chose to reach out to provide you with information.

You should try it the next time a client updates you . After all, it’s best to retain a more professional and friendly relationship with clients (if you want them to stick around).

This email example will also help you:

Dear Ms. Jones, I appreciate the information, and I await your update. Hopefully, there’s more to share about this discussion soon. Yours, Damian Rice

2. Thanks for Providing That Information

Another way to say “thank you for the information” in an email is “thanks for providing that information.”

It’s formal and respectful , showing that you really appreciate someone coming to you.

Generally, this works when thanking your clients . It’s a good way to be honest and thankful when someone helps you out.

After all, clients might provide helpful information about current projects. Whatever the case, if they’ve helped you, it’s best to show appreciation.

Here’s a great example if you’re still unsure:

Dear Ms. Davies, Thanks for providing that information . I have included it in our case files to help us explore new options. Yours, Jules Marten

3. I Appreciate Your Sharing This Information

You have two options with this one. You can write either of the following:

  • I appreciate your sharing this information.
  • I appreciate you sharing this information.

The difference is subtle and usually comes down to personal preference. Both are formal and polite , though.

Using “your” suggests you appreciate the action itself. So, you appreciate the fact that information was given to you.

Writing “you” is more personal. It suggests you’re thanking the recipient directly for sharing the information.

Whichever you choose, this is a great way to talk to customers . It shows you appreciate them for delivering information to help you.

Check out this sample email as well:

Dear Mrs. Crystal, I appreciate your sharing this information . Is there anything you need from me that might help here? Best, Michael Halpert

4. Thanks So Much for the Update

You should include “thanks so much for the update” as a slightly more friendly alternative. It still works well in business emails, but it’s better to use it when you know the recipient well.

For instance, it’s a good choice when contacting coworkers . It shows how appreciative you are that they reached out to you.

After all, there’s nothing written in the workplace rulebook that says coworkers have to provide you with information. Usually, they would do so because they think it’s relevant or they trust you.

So, it’s always worth thanking someone for trusting you. It’s a great way to show genuine appreciation if they’ve come to you.

We also recommend reviewing the following example:

Dear Harley, Thanks so much for the update . Please let me know if you come across any more information that might help us. All the best, James Perry

5. Your Input Has Been Incredibly Helpful

For a more formal synonym, try “your input has been incredibly helpful.” It works well in business emails because it shows you value someone’s guidance .

Typically, this works when emailing employees . It shows you’re in a position of authority over them without appearing too bossy or dismissive.

It’s a good choice that keeps things respectful. We recommend using it if you’re truly grateful that someone has reached out to give you information.

Here’s a great sample email to show you how it works:

Dear Suzanna, Your input has been incredibly helpful . I appreciate your update and will use this information to help our cause. Best wishes, Dan Hunt

6. I’m Grateful for Your Update

You can write “I’m grateful for your update” as a formal synonym for “thank you for the information.”

It shares positive feelings with the recipient when they’ve provided you with the news.

You can try it when contacting clients . If you were seeking an update from them, this is a good way to show appreciation.

We recommend using it because it shows you care about what your clients say. This keeps things more friendly and civil between you, which should help to retain client relationships.

This email example should clear things up for you:

Dear Mr. Bentley, I’m grateful for your update . However, I do not think it’ll change much about the original plan. Thank you so much, Sean Brent

7. Thank You for Enlightening Me

For a more polite alternative, why not try “thank you for enlightening me”? It’s great to include to show you’re happy to receive information .

In this context, “enlightening me” shows you learned something from the recipient . This works well if you’re trying to share positivity and friendliness with them.

For instance, you can use it when emailing coworkers . It shows you’d like to create a more friendly conversation with them (especially if you’re interested in progressing your relationship).

Perhaps this example will help you understand it:

Dear Zoe, Thank you for enlightening me . I’m trying to find the best way to move forward with this newfound information. Best regards, Tom Allison

8. Your Update Is Greatly Appreciated

We recommend trying “your update is greatly appreciated.” The only thing you need to remember is that it’s a lot more professional than “thank you for the information.”

Since it’s more professional, it doesn’t work well when emailing colleagues.

Instead, use it when emailing clients or your boss . It shows you respect the recipient and want to keep your language as formal and acceptable as possible.

The following sample email should help you with it:

Dear Ms. Young, Your update is greatly appreciated . I’ll be sure to relay this to the affected parties before we continue. Kind regards, Sarah White

9. Thank You for Keeping Me Informed

Information is important in the workplace. The more informed you are, the easier it is to keep on top of changes that happen.

That’s why “thank you for keeping me informed” works so well. It shows you’re happy to hear from someone when sharing new information.

If someone keeps you informed, it means they trust you enough to update you .

This phrase is also quite friendly . So, it’s great to use when you’re happy that someone came to you to share more information.

We also recommend reviewing this example:

Dear Stuart, Thank you for keeping me informed . I’m so glad to have someone like you working on this team. All the best, George Scott

10. Thanks for Keeping Me in the Loop

Finally, you can go back to slightly more conversational language. It keeps your emails engaging and more friendly , which helps to set up a positive conversation.

Try writing “thanks for keeping me in the loop.” It’s still an effective professional choice, but it helps you to sound slightly more friendly when accepting information from a colleague.

Of course, we recommend it more when emailing coworkers . You need to have a good relationship set up with the recipient before using this.

Here’s a great email sample to help you with it:

Dear Martin, Thanks for keeping me in the loop with this. I knew I could count on you to provide me with this information. Best regards, Dan White

This fall, Tom Brady will return to the NFL.

And the legendary quarterback now has his first assignment.

Brady begins his first season as an analyst for FOX Sports this fall and the former quarterback — and recent Netflix roastee — now knows where he will be for Week 1. Brady will be on the call for the network as the Cleveland Browns host the Dallas Cowboys to kick off their regular-season schedule.

Andrew Marchand, who covers sports media for The Athletic , was at the network’s “upfronts” presentation Monday, which featured Brady. Marchand sent out this post on social media indicating that Brady’s first game would be a “Cowboys’ game in the late Sunday window:”

Later in the day, the Browns confirmed that the Cowboys would be their Week 1 opponent:

Brady has some big shoes to fill at the network. Greg Olsen has been in the top analyst role for FOX Sports since 2022, after starting a full-time analyst role with the network back in 2021. Olsen has drawn acclaim around the football world for his insight during games, including his ability to break down not just the Xs and Os in real time, but also provide some insight into how teams can use analytics in game situations.

If past is prologue, Brady will throw himself fully into the role of an analyst, and attack the job like he attacked playing quarterback in the NFL. But he certainly has some big shoes to fill as he steps into the role held by Olsen these past few seasons.

Now we know exactly when that next step in Brady’s broadcasting journey will be.

Dodgers outfielder Jason Heyward will play for Triple-A Oklahoma City at least on Tuesday and Wednesday to start a minor league rehab assignment, manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Saturday afternoon at Petco Park in San Diego.

Heyward took several simulated at-bats on Saturday for a second straight day, continuing a ramping up of activity that including taking full batting practice and full pregame workouts on the homestand at Dodger Stadium .

Lower back tightness has sidelined Heyward for over six weeks , with his last game coming on March 30. Roberts told reporters the plan is for Heyward to take Sunday off from hitting, then will resume hitting during batting practice with the team on Monday in San Francisco. Heyward will play for Triple-A Oklahoma City for at least two games, beginning with a noon game on Tuesday in Sacramento.

This will be Heyward’s first minor league rehab assignment since 2021 while with the Cubs . Roberts did not commit to a plan for Heyward beyond Wednesday.

Dave Roberts discusses the offense's recent performance and outlines expectations for James Paxton ahead of tonight's game against the Padres. #Dodgers pic.twitter.com/iQhel97yKJ — SportsNet LA (@SportsNetLA) May 11, 2024

“Physically he’s in a good spot. The other part of it is we want to make sure his swing is in a good spot. He took a lot of at-bats today, which was good,” Roberts told reporters, as shown on SportsNet LA . “We want to make sure he feels good and confident that he can help us once he gets activated.”

The Dodgers begin a homestand on Thursday against the Reds at Dodger Stadium.

Whenever Heyward gets activated, the Dodgers will need a corresponding move to make room for him on the roster. Assuming nothing is physically wrong with Chris Taylor, who has four singles in 56 at-bats with 28 strikeouts this season, the choice is essentially between Andy Pages, who entered Saturday with an .850 OPS and has played in every inning of his first 21 games since getting called up , or James Outman, who is hitting .158/.252/.284 while platooning, including 1-for-10 with a home run since Roberts said , “To get hot, you have to have some clarity, and feel good about your swing. And I don’t think he’s been there yet.”

6 ways to use Microsoft Copilot for end-of-school-year tasks

May 14, 2024.

The end of the school year is a hectic time for educators everywhere. Between reviewing content, completing assessments, and maintaining classroom management, it’s easy to feel the pressure of too many responsibilities and not enough time to accomplish everything.

Whether closing out the academic year in the northern hemisphere or preparing for the next one in the southern hemisphere, Microsoft Copilot offers innovative and efficient ways to complete many of the tasks that occupy these transitional times of year. From drafting student feedback to composing newsletters and offering planning suggestions for events, Copilot adapts to whatever task it’s asked. To get started, all you need is a basic understanding of how to access and use Copilot.

Start using Copilot for your end-of-school-year tasks

You can learn how to use Copilot by visiting Meet your AI assistant for education: Microsoft Copilot .

When you’re ready to get started, go to copilot.microsoft.com or download the iOS or Android mobile app.

Writing prompts for the end of the school year

Prompting Copilot to generate content requires practice. Including specific information in your prompt helps produce more relevant responses.

An effective Copilot prompt:

  • Asks the tool to take on a role called a persona .
  • Provides an objective  that tells the tool what to do or produce.
  • Defines the audience  who will be using whatever Copilot generates.
  • Includes context  that gives the tool background information.
  • Sets boundaries  that limit or constrain responses.

Elements of a Good Prompt infographic which includes tips for writing prompts that produce more relevant responses.

Throughout this post, you’ll find sample prompts that include these components. We recommend borrowing inspiration from them and adjusting to make them fit your own classroom, or you can copy and paste the examples without modifications if you are just beginning.

Now let’s learn how Copilot can help you complete six common end-of-school-year tasks.

1. Craft student feedback at the end of the school year

Copilot can help you write end-of-school-year feedback in a style and tone that all students can understand. Simply craft a prompt that includes the subject area and details about the feedback you want to provide, and Copilot can draft a constructive, supportive statement written specifically for students. For example:

You are a fourth-grade teacher who is writing feedback on a student’s current reading skills. The student uses details to explain what text means but is unable to draw inferences in fiction. The student can identify in-text examples that illustrate a given theme but is unable to independently produce a theme without guidance. Write a short statement that explains this feedback to a student. Include a description about why using details is important and 1-2 ways to develop this skill. The paragraph should be written with plain text so that a fourth-grade student will understand.

You can always refine your prompt if the response is not what you expected. Simply include something like, “Re-write this feedback in Spanish” without selecting New topic , and Copilot will continue where you left off. Give it a try.

2. Write end-of-school-year reflections

Educators often write end-of-school-year newsletters for families, update class blogs with a final post, and draft reflections on school year goals. Copilot can assist with all these tasks and can help you create personalized, engaging visuals for your content. For example, you can use the following prompt to produce a summer newsletter for families.

You are the science department leader for a middle school in New York City. Draft a summer newsletter for families that includes an introduction that talks about the past year and 5 sections: Science Books for Young Adults, Science at Home, Science Summer Camps, Science Events in NYC, and NY Science Museums. Only include information that can be linked to a website to learn more. The newsletter should be written in plain text using an informal tone.

You can also share your experiences, memorable moments, and insights from the school year and Copilot will help you find creative ways to share this information with colleagues, families, and students.

3. Organize classroom materials at the end of the school year

The last few weeks of a school year includes packing up classrooms for the summer, collecting books and devices, and organizing materials for the next year. Copilot can create checklists or reminders for end-of-school-year tasks like these and offer suggestions that you might not even consider. For example:

You are a high school media specialist who checks out technology to administrators and educators. Write a checklist of the 3 most important things to do before returning each of the following devices: document camera, tablet, digital projector, games, and wires. Make each device a section heading and use bulleted lists for the content. Write the checklists so that the content is easily understood by people with varying levels of technological expertise.

Another way to use Copilot when you are organizing classroom materials is to ask for suggestions for efficient ways to declutter and prepare your classroom for the next school year.

4. Plan an end-of-school-year celebration

Many schools celebrate major milestones like the start of summer or moving from lower grades to higher grades with a party or ceremony. Copilot can be your personal planner and assist with brainstorming ideas for end-of-school-year events, awards ceremonies, or virtual gatherings. It can even suggest ways to be more inclusive in areas you might not have considered, like food options in the prompt below.

You are a guidance counselor in charge of helping rising eighth-grade students transition from middle school to high school. Draft a letter to middle school teachers that shares the biggest differences between middle school and high school. Include paragraphs on class schedules, touring the high school, meeting educators, extracurricular activities, and summer reading books. The letter should be written in a formal, conversational tone.

Whether you are creating invitations, planning activities, or drafting speeches, Copilot can be your creative collaborator.

5. Develop transition materials at the end of the school year

When students enter elementary school or move to middle or high school, everyone involved in the transition needs to know how to prepare for this change. Students need to know what to expect, families need to know how to support their children, and current educators need to provide relevant information. Copilot can help create transition materials so that everyone stays informed using a prompt like this example:

You can also use Copilot to write welcome letters, tips for success, or information about what to expect in the upcoming year.

6. Streamline parent communication at the end of the school year

Copilot can help you create templates for parent-teacher conferences at the end of the school year, as well as student progress updates, and letters to families. For example, you can ask Copilot to create a message to families about signing up for conferences with the following prompt.

You are a high school math teacher who teaches introductory algebra. Write a letter to families about parent-teacher conferences. Include an introductory paragraph that thanks families for their ongoing support and paragraphs about what will happen during the conferences, why conferences are important, who should attend, and how to prepare for the meeting. Conclude the letter with a paragraph about how to sign up for a conference slot. Write the letter using an approachable, informal tone.

Microsoft Copilot is a versatile AI tool for educators that adapts to your specific needs. Most importantly, enjoy the end of the school year with your students and the time you saved by using Copilot.

Did You Make Your Connecting Flight? You May Have A.I. to Thank.

Airlines are using artificial intelligence to save fuel, keep customers informed and hold connecting flights for delayed passengers. Here’s what to expect.

A map of the contiguous United States marked with airline routes between hubs like Miami, Boston, New York and Los Angeles, with red, orange, green, blue, red and purple areas that look like storm systems on a radar map. A hand is holding up a cellphone that shows the seating chart of a plane. A message on the screen reads, “JFK-LAX: Holding for Delayed Passengers. On-Time Arrival Projected” and “Gate 10, Seat 5A.”

By Julie Weed

Last month in Chicago, a United Airlines flight to London was ready to depart, but it was still waiting for 13 passengers connecting from Costa Rica. The airline projected they’d miss the flight by seven minutes. Under normal circumstances, they’d all be scrambling to rebook.

But thanks to a new artificial-intelligence-powered tool called ConnectionSaver, the jet was able to wait for them — their checked bags, too — and still arrive in London on time. The system also sent text messages to the late-arriving passengers and the people on the waiting jet to explain what was happening.

A.I. still might not be able to find space for your carry-on, but it could help put an end to the 40-gate dash — sprinting to catch your connecting flight before the door slams shut — as well as other common travel headaches.

It’s not just United. Alaska Airlines , American Airlines and others have been working to develop new A.I. capabilities that could make flying easier for passengers. The carriers are also using the technology to reduce costs and streamline operations, including saving fuel, said Helane Becker, an airline industry analyst for the investment bank TD Cowen . Although many of the airlines are developing their programs independently, a successful innovation by any carrier could possibly become an industry standard.

A.I. is poised to change almost every aspect of the customer flying experience, from baggage tracking to personalized in-flight entertainment, said Jitender Mohan, who works with travel and hospitality clients at the technology consulting company WNS .

Saving fuel and frustration

A.I. has been helping Alaska Airlines dispatchers plan more efficient routes since 2021. “It’s like Google maps, but in the air,” explained Vikram Baskaran, vice president for information technology services at the carrier.

Two hours before a flight, the system reviews weather conditions, any airspace that will be closed, and all commercial and private flight plans registered with the Federal Aviation Administration, to suggest the most efficient route. The A.I. takes in “an amount of information no human brain could process,” said Pasha Saleh, the corporate development director and a pilot for Alaska.

In 2023, about 25 percent of Alaska flights used this system to shave a few minutes off flight times. Those efficiencies added up to about 41,000 minutes of flying time and half a million gallons of fuel saved, Mr. Baskaran said.

On the ground, American Airlines and others are working on an A.I.-powered system American calls Smart Gating — sending arriving aircraft to the nearest available gate with the shortest taxiing time, and if the scheduled arrival gate is in use, quickly determining the best alternate gate. All this could mean fewer frustrating minutes spent waiting on the tarmac.

American introduced Smart Gating at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in 2021 and now employs it at six airports, including Chicago O’Hare and Miami International. The airline estimates it saves 17 hours a day in taxi time and 1.4 million gallons of jet fuel a year.

Mr. Mohan said that using A.I. as a virtual parking attendant could save up to 20 percent of taxiing time, with the highest benefits seen at the largest airports.

Faster and better customer service

Rapidly evolving generative A.I. — think ChatGPT — is helping airlines communicate with passengers better. At United, a companywide challenge last year yielded a plan to make texts sent to fliers more specific about what’s causing delays. Passengers can get frustrated when flights are delayed with no explanation, said Jason Birnbaum, United’s chief information officer.

But tracking the details required, composing an appropriate message and sending it to the right people for 5,000 flights a day would be too much for the staff to handle, Mr. Birnbaum said. Generative A.I. can process all that data and create messages tailored to conditions. For example, passengers booked on a January United flight from San Francisco to Tucson received this text message, along with a new departure time and an apology: “Your inbound aircraft is arriving late due to airport runway construction in San Francisco that limited the number of arrivals and departures for all airlines earlier.”

Having a more detailed explanation can calm travelers’ nerves. Jamie Larounis, a travel industry analyst who flies about 150,000 miles a year, recalled receiving text messages last summer explaining that a storm and a related crew-scheduling problem had delayed his flight from Chicago. “Getting a specific reason for the delay made me feel like the airline had things under control,” he said.

Generative A.I. is also good at summarizing text, making it a powerful tool for wading through emails. Last year, Alaska was among the carriers that began using A.I. to handle customer messages more efficiently. The airline’s system “reads” each email and summarizes the issues raised.

“We used to read first in first out, handling the requests as they came in,” said Mr. Baskaran, but now the system helps prioritize emails. For example, an urgent request involving an upcoming flight may take precedence over a complaint about a past one.

The system also helps a human agent decide how to respond, such as offering the customer a voucher, and it may draft an initial written response. “The person makes the decision, but it’s streamlined,” Mr. Baskaran said.

For all the benefits A.I. promises to airlines and passengers, the technology still has some shortcomings. For one, it doesn’t always deliver accurate information. In 2022, an Air Canada chatbot incorrectly promised a traveler that if he booked a full-fare flight to a relative’s funeral, he could receive a bereavement fare after the fact. When he filed a small-claims case, Air Canada tried to argue that the bot was its own separate entity, “responsible for its own actions,” but a tribunal found Air Canada responsible and ordered it to pay about $800 in damages and fees.

Still, as A.I. develops and airlines race to find more uses for it, passengers could see even more benefits. “As a customer and a business person, this is one of the biggest technology disruptions in the last five to eight years,” Mr. Mohan said.

An earlier version of this article, in a quotation from Vikram Baskaran, vice president for information technology services at Alaska Airlines, misstated the number of gallons of fuel an artificial-intelligence-powered planning system saved the airline in 2023. It was half a million, not half a billion.
