Find your National Occupation Classification (NOC)

Transition to national occupational classification 2021.

On November 16, 2022, we switched to the 2021 version of the National Occupational Classification (NOC).

Find information for the previous version of the National Occupation Classification (NOC 2016).

We use the  2021 National Occupational Classification (NOC)  system to identify and categorize jobs (occupations) based on the training, education, experience and responsibilities ( TEER ) they require.

TEER categories and examples of jobs

You can view the full list of occupation classifications under NOC 2021 on the ESDC site. Choose “NOC 2021” from the drop-down menu to search for your occupation.

Find your job title, code and TEER

Use this table to find the NOC 2021 information that best matches your job.

This table is for reference only. If any part conflicts with information on the NOC website, assume that the  NOC website  is correct.

  • As you type words, the table will change to display related entries.
  • For example: 72536.
  • For example: Gas fitters.
  • For example: 4.
  • Make sure the  main duties  listed match what you did at your job.
  • If they don’t, you’ll need to find a different job title with duties that match yours.

If you couldn’t find your NOC in the above table

Go to the  search page  of the NOC website, and do the following:

  • Choose version NOC 2021 Version 1.0 and search  your job title or the NOC code.
  • Find the closest match  in the list.
  • if they don't, you will need to find a different job title with duties that match yours.
  • For example: 72536 Gas fitters
  • Enter the number in the “Filter items” field of the above table and note the TEER  in the first column.
