Learning Styles Essay
As we have seen and learned there are many different points of view regarding Learning Styles. Some experts have categorized them, other have rejected them, and there are many who believe that teachers should adapt the teaching methods to assess students needs while many others say we should not. So, taking all this into account we should reflect about our own teaching experience and ask ourselves: are learning styles relevant while teaching? On the one hand we have the experts who agree on the idea that learning styles are highly important while teaching. They said that to help students to achieve their goals we must recognize their learning styles and adapt our lessons bearing that in mind. They also categorize them according to different methods so there are plenty of different styles such as visual, kinesthetic and auditory, among others. But not only that, but also some of them truly believe that you can mix them. This mean that you can not only be a visual learner but also a visualauditory learner. And this lead us to have even more learning styles. For these experts if teachers are not aware of this they can not succeed in their teaching process because it is difficult for their students to truly remember what has been taught. The learning process is not meaningful for them. On the other hand, we find the experts who reject the idea of learning styles. They do not agree with this because they say that the most relevant thing is to remember meaning and that is not related to visual or auditory memory. Students will remember what is meaningful and not because they can connect that to an image or a word. Therefore, they believe that teachers should not take this into consideration. Teachers should not cater their students learning styles, they should not adapt their lessons. My own teaching experience showed me that it is important to be conscious about the different learning styles to make our classes more meaningful for our students. By doing this, we will help them to go through the learning process in a more understandable and easy way, and as a result it will be more meaningful for them. I also believe that the most relevant thing is for them to learn meanings and not just to remember isolated things, but taking learning styles into account does not mean that we are going to show them pictures or say things just for them to remember, it means that we can develop and improve our teaching techniques by challenging ourselves to teach meaning taking advantage of other resources.

an increasingly ‘personalised’ approach to teaching and learning; that is, ‘tailoring teaching and learning to individual need’ (DFES, 2001) where inclusivity for learners is key (Rayner, 2007). Throughout the last 30 years, this approach has incorporated learning styles theory which stems from the belief that learners differ in personality traits, brain function and preferred environment (Coffield et al., 2004a), leading to varied strengths and weaknesses in receiving, assimilating and retaining information. The claim is that knowing one’s preferences will improve motivation to learn and/or provide opportunities to approach learning appropriately (Honey & Mumford, 1992). Many educational institutions diagnose student learning styles with the aim of planning lessons to suit a range of methods of learning. This approach is supported by professional bodies, for example, the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) state that learners should be made aware of their preferred learni...

It has long been established that students have a variety of learning styles. Clearly explain the ways through which an effective teacher caters for the learning styles of his/her students. " Every child has a different learning style and pace. Each child is unique, not only capable of learning but also capable of succeeding. " quoted by Robert John Meehan. The purpose of education is to aid each student to achieve widespread development according to his/ her own qualities. To attain this, students should be afforded with suitable assistance and guidance in sync with their abilities and learning prerequisites, so that they can cultivate their fullest potential. According to Salvin (2012), learning can be defined as a relative change in behaviour brought about by experience whereas other theorists have outlined that learning in an acquisition of skills and knowledge through a particular experience. A learning style is a certain way that the mind receives and processes new information. To further develop, it outlines that each learner has distinct and consistent preferred ways of perception, organization and retention.

This article discusses the various learning styles of students in the teaching and learning process in the classroom. Among the learning style models discussed in this article are such as Dunn and Dunn learning style model, Kolb learning style model, Felder Silverman learning style model, VAK learning style model, Visual, Audio, ‘Read and Write’ and Kinesthetic (VARK) learning style model, Honey and Mumford learning style model, Selmes learning style model. Each learning style model has its strengths and weaknesses. This, a good understanding and mastery of a learning style will allow teachers to help implement teaching and learning strategies that students are interested in according to their tastes. Furthermore, it can increase the interest and effectiveness of students in the teaching and learning process as well as improve the academic achievement of students.

Learning styles attempt to describe individual differences among students by identifying students’ preferences in how they learn, and adapting their learning to accommodate that style. Since their inception, learning styles have gained mass popularity among teachers, researchers, and the public. Numerous assessments and self-help books are available to discover one’s individual learning style. Learning styles, however, have been heavily criticized by researchers who contend that learning styles lack evidence supporting their effectiveness and possess unreliable diagnostic tools. I posit that the case against learning styles is not limited to those two claims; in addition, that learning styles outcomes can be associated with confounding factors, and that learning styles may lead to ineffective teaching practices that negatively affect students and teachers. Through evidence-based practices, we can move forward from learning styles and create learning environments that have a greater ...

Hillary Clinton: I’ve Debated Trump and Biden. Here’s What I’m Watching For.
By Hillary Rodham Clinton
Mrs. Clinton was the Democratic nominee for president in 2016.
Last week I had the time of my life at the Tony Awards introducing a song from “Suffs,” the Broadway musical I co-produced about the suffragists who won women the right to vote. I was thrilled when the show took home the awards for best original score and best book.
From “Suffs” to “Hamilton,” I love theater about politics. But not the other way around. Too often we approach pivotal moments like this week’s debate between President Biden and Donald Trump like drama critics. We’re picking a president, not the best actor.
I am the only person to have debated both men (Mr. Trump in 2016 and, in the 2008 Democratic presidential primary race, Mr. Biden). I know the excruciating pressure of walking onto that stage and that it is nearly impossible to focus on substance when Mr. Trump is involved. In our three debates in 2016, he unleashed a blizzard of interruptions, insults and lies that overwhelmed the moderators and did a disservice to the voters who tuned in to learn about our visions for the country — including a record 84 million viewers for our first debate.
It is a waste of time to try to refute Mr. Trump’s arguments like in a normal debate. It’s nearly impossible to identify what his arguments even are. He starts with nonsense and then digresses into blather. This has gotten only worse in the years since we debated. I was not surprised that after a recent meeting, several chief executives said that Mr. Trump, as one journalist described it, “could not keep a straight thought” and was “all over the map.” Yet expectations for him are so low that if he doesn’t literally light himself on fire on Thursday evening, some will say he was downright presidential.
Mr. Trump may rant and rave in part because he wants to avoid giving straight answers about his unpopular positions, like restrictions on abortion, giving tax breaks to billionaires and selling out our planet to big oil companies in return for campaign donations. He interrupts and bullies — he even stalked me around the stage at one point — because he wants to appear dominant and throw his opponent off balance.
These ploys will fall flat if Mr. Biden is as direct and forceful as he was when engaging Republican hecklers at the State of the Union address in March. The president also has facts and truth on his side. He led America’s comeback from a historic health and economic crisis, with more than 15 million jobs created so far, incomes for working families rising, inflation slowing and investments in clean energy and advanced manufacturing soaring. He’ll win if that story comes through.

Learning Theory: Final Reflective Essay Learning about Learning How to Learn: an exploration of my learning assumptions. This quarter in learning theory, I have constructed a much deeper understanding of how people learn. Since this question has been explored by psychologists spanning entire careers, I can [t possibly know everything.
Lave and Wenger (1991) illustrated their theory with examples of different apprenticeships (midwives, tai-lors,U.S.Navy quartermasters, butchers, and nondrinking alcoholics). Initially, people join these communities and watch, as the theorists suggest, from the sidelines (they call this peripheral participation).
THE LOST TOOLS OF LEARNING That I, whose experience of teaching is extremely limited, and whose life of recent years has been almost wholly out of touch with educational circles, should presume to discuss education is a matter, surely, that calls for no apology. It is a kind of behaviour to which the present climate of opinion is wholly favourable.
PHILOSOPHY-BASED LEARNING THEORY. People have been trying to understand learning for over 2000 years. Learning theorists have carried out a debate on how people learn that began at least as far back as the Greek philosophers, Socrates (469 -399 B.C.), Plato (427 - 347 B.C.), and Aristotle (384 - 322 B.C). The debates that have occurred ...

Writing also encompasses creative inspiration, problem-solving, reflection and revision that results in a completed manuscript.
