Tamil Nadu Open University was the first university in the state, that offered Credit Based Self Learning Materials in print from 2003 and onwards. The growth of TNOU has been immensely phenomenal and their cumulative student strength has been over one million in the past 20 years combining all the offered programs in UG, PG, and certificate courses. TNOU was an initiative of the state government of Tamil Nau and their main objective was to reach and deliver quality education to those students who are not able to get all the facilities and are unable to pursue their further studies due to constraints.

Tamil Nadu Open University Examination Pattern

The evaluation of a student is based on the performance of the candidate throughout the year and by monitoring the internal assessment and end-term examination. The exams at TNOU are conducted twice a year and students will receive a hall ticket for it students have to report to their allotted exam centers on time and all the information regarding examinations is updated regularly on the official website, to know detailed information click here .

• To check the results, students are requested to visit the official website of TNOU.

• After that students have to log in with their credentials (enrolment number) and password.

Tamil Nadu Open University is the first open university of Tamil Nadu. The university aims to provide benefit to the people who are not able to afford higher education. The courses offered by the University are recognized by University Grants Commission [UGC], National Council for Teacher Education [NCTE], RCI and DEB.

Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU)  offers education in 3-year under-graduation in B.A., B.Com., B.Sc., BBA, and BCA. College offer studies in 2-year Master’s program in MBA, MCA, M.A., M.Com. and M.Sc., Diploma and Post-graduation Diploma courses in multiple specializations.

The college also offers Certificate and Vocational courses. Applicants can apply for the admission to the program offline through the forms available at the study centres. 

• Applicants to B.A., B.Com., B.Sc., BCA and BBA courses must have passed 10+2 examination from a recognized board.
• Those who have applied to M.Com., M.A., M.Com. and M.Sc. courses must have passed Bachelor’s courses from a recognized board.
• Candidates applying for MBA courses must hold Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized board.
• The minimum marks required to be eligible for admission to MBA course is having secured at least 50% marks in undergraduate degree.
• Final admission to the courses will be through merit in qualifying exam as well as counseling.
• Admission to under-graduation is based on completion of 10+2 or TNOU BPP conducted by the Tamil Nadu Open University.
• Candidates who are admitted under 10+2 into a Bachelor degree program will have to necessarily complete the Bachelor of Preparatory Program to be eligible for the degree program.
• The BPP Examinations will be conducted before the commencement of the Semester examination.
• Self-learning materials, in print and electronic medium, is provided by the Tami Nadu Open University.
• Counselling is conducted by the University at various locations in the State. Counselling sessions are held during the months of March-May, and September-November, respectively.
• Applicants can simultaneously register themselves for any one year Diploma Program or Certificate Program of six months duration.

Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) UG Admissions 2024: BA, B.Com., BBA, BCA and B.Sc.

Admission to three-year full-time under-graduate B.A., B.Com., B.Sc., BCA and BBA programs are offered by Tamil Nadu Open University - [TNOU]. Lateral entry to two-year BCA is also offered based on fulfillment of basic eligibility. The minimum eligibility to apply for undergraduate courses is having passed 10+2 in relevant subjects. Candidates applying for lateral entry to BCA program must have any Diploma from Recognized Polytechnic College to be eligible for admission.

Candidates who are not eligible will have to appear in TNOU BPP for six months conducted by the University to be eligible for admission to the UG courses. Application forms can be obtained from the University recognized study centers.

Key points:

• Eligible candidates will have to fill and submit the application form available offline at the prescribed study centers by the University.
• Final selection of the candidates in BBA, B.Com., BCA, B.Sc., and B.A. is based on merit in qualifying exam as well as entrance exam scores.
• Candidates who do not have any formal educational qualification or haven’t successfully completed the 10+2 examination may take admission into a UG Program at the University through the non-formal way, provided they have completed 21 years of age at the time of application.
• Non-formal candidates are required to undergo a 6-month Bachelor Preparatory Program (BPP).
• To be eligible to claim the completion certificate of the UG Course, students are required to secure a minimum of 35% in Term-End Examination and overall 40% in both Terms.

Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) PG Admissions 2024: MBA, MCA, MA, M.Com. and M.Sc.

Admission to two-year full-time post-graduate M.A., M.Sc., M.Com., MBA and MCA programs are offered by Tamil Nadu Open University - [TNOU]. M.Sc. is offered in 18 basic specializations and M.A. is offered in 7 basic disciplines.

The minimum eligibility to apply for M.A., M.Sc., M.Com., MBA and MCA programs is having passed bachelor’s from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in aggregate in a relevant discipline. Admission to the program will be merit-based and applications forms are available at the study centers of the Tamil Nadu Open University.

• Candidates seeking admission to M.Sc., M.A., M.Com., MBA and MCA courses should register offline through the application form available at the study centers.
• The student is required to secure a minimum of 45% in Term-End Examination and overall 50% in both the terms to be eligible for the completion certificate of the program.

Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) Diploma and PG Diploma Admissions 2024

Admission to the three-year full-time Diploma program and PG Diploma course is offered by Tamil Nadu Open University - [TNOU]. Diploma and PG Diploma is offered in various specializations as listed below.

The minimum eligibility to apply for Tamil Nadu Open University Diploma Courses is having passed 10+2 or Graduation from a recognized university. Applicants to PG Diploma will have Bachelor’s or Master’s will have to appear in University level entrance exam to be eligible for admission in MBA course.

• Applicants having Degrees awarded by the Universities which are not recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) are not eligible for admission to the Program.
• Only those applicants who have passed the qualifying examination either under the 10+2+3 pattern of education or under the 11+1+3 pattern of education or 11+2+2 pattern of education or under the Open University system will be eligible for admission to the Program.
• The copies of the Certificates enclosed should be duly certified by a person authorized to attest the Certificates must be enclosed.

Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) Application Process 2024

Students applying for Under-Graduate, Post-Graduate, Diploma and PG Diploma programs offered by the Tamil Nadu Open University [TNOU] must visit the specified study centres to get the application forms and prospectus. The final selection of the candidates is based on completion of qualifying exam followed by counselling.

• The Application Forms can be obtained from the study centers on the payment of prescribed payment of Rs. 100/- in cash.
• Application forms can also be obtained From the Deputy Registrar, MPDD, TNOU, 577, Anna Salai, Saidapet, Chennai– 600 015 by post on payment of Rs.150/- by demand draft issued in favour of the Tamil Nadu Open University payable at Chennai.
• Admission forms need to be submitted to the study centres on or before April 30th or October 31st of the academic year.
• On submission of the Application Form, the Study Centre will issue a statement of acknowledgment to the Applicant and forward the Forms to the Zonal Centres.
• The Admission Wing, after the detailed examination of the Application Forms, shall allot the Enrollment Number and send the ID Cards to the Study Centres for handing over to the students.
• Then the students may quote their Enrollment Number in all their further references with the University.
• Applicants who wish to enroll for a Diploma/ Certificate Program under the scheme of Dual Registration shall submit separate Application Forms.
• Separate copies of the eligibility and other certificates, a photograph of the applicant and the signature of the applicant should be attested by any one of the Group A and Group B Officers.
• For all the Program the fees shall be paid to the University. The fees may be remitted in any branch of the State Bank of India or Indian Bank.
• For remitting the fees, the applicant may use the photocopy of the remittance Challan Form enclosed in the Prospectus. The Banker will return the challan of TNOU copy and STUDENT copy.
• The applicant will have to enclose the TNOU copy of the remitted challan with the application for Admission. They may also consult their Study Centers regarding remittance of fees.
• Applicants may submit the filled in Application Forms along with the University copy of the Challan.
• Selected candidates will have to get their documents verified and the counselling will be held on the dates prescribed.
• Documents Checklists:
• Passport size photograph.
• Signature of the candidate
• 10th Standard Mark Sheet or equivalent in support of Date of Birth
• 12th Standard Mark Sheet (wherever applicable).
• UG Degree Certificate (wherever applicable).
• Community Certificate in respect of SC/ST/OBC (NCL) candidates.

Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) Scholarships

University provides the facilities to reserved category and disabled candidates in the form of exemption from tuition fees. Following are the facilities available to the students:

SC/ ST students who are pursuing distance education are eligible for reimbursement of fees if they are not employed and if the annual income of their parents does not exceed INR 1,00,000

The students should apply for scholarships in the prescribed form to be obtained from the Offices of Adi Dravidar/ Tribal Welfare Department along with the supporting documents.

The TNOU admission procedure is set up to be simple to avail the benefit of the courses to all deserving candidates. It admits students in the calendar year (CY) cycle and the academic year (AY) cycle. One is similar to other universities in that students are admitted twice in an academic year; the July and January sessions. With the growing advancement in technology and taking advantage of this development, the TNOU admission process is completely online.  

The students interested in TNOU admission can complete the online application process from anywhere within the given period and supporting documents. Students in need of any clarity can approach the regional centres. The institute has set up twelve regional centres throughout Tamil Nadu to assist with admissions to Tamil Nadu Open University. The TNOU invites applications for various UG programmes, PG, diploma, and certificate programmes. 

Students can visit the TNOU admission portal and are advised to check the prospectus and other eligibility details such as minimum age, educational qualification, and other experience thoroughly before applying. The mode of fee payment for all the programmes is online through various payment methods. For the admission fee, registration fee of Rs 1000, examination fee, provisional certificate, and convocation fee, a demand draft will be accepted in the name of  Tamil Nadu Open University drawn from any nationalised bank.

After applying, the admission section will analyse it in detail. Those who get selected will receive the ID card at their given address. An enrollment number will be allotted, which is used for further purposes. The academic TNOU counselling classes will be conducted in the learner support centre, and students can collect more details by visiting the college website or contacting the concerned authority. The admission section will allow the centre to be available at nearby locations if the applicant has not opted for a learner support centre while applying. The e-prospectus for Tamil Nadu Open University admissions is available on the college’s official website under the admission tab.

• The TNOU application forms are available on the official website.
• Application forms can likewise be acquired from the “Deputy Registrar, MPDD, TNOU, 577, Anna Salai, Saidapet, Chennai-600015” by post on the payment of Rs 150 by demand draft to Tamil Nadu Open University payable at Chennai.
