(a) M.Phil./Ph.D. Programme (for all Centres) Knowledge  of  International  Affairs/Area  Studies/ Disciplines  (Law,  Economics, Political Science with interest in one or more of the following areas in which facilities are available in the school   International Politics; International Organisation; Diplomacy and Disarmament, Political Geography; International Legal Studies; International Trade & Development; South Asian Studies; South East Asian & South West Pacific Studies; Central Asian Studies; Chinese Studies; Japanese Studies; Korean Studies; West Asian Studies; African Studies; United States Studies; Latin American Studies; Canadian Studies, European Studies and Russian & Central Asian Studies. The written test is intended to evaluate the competence of candidates in International Relations, History, Political Science, Economics, International Law and the field/area in which they are seeking admission, and their capacity for analysis and expression. SCHOOL OF LANGUAGE, LITERATURE AND CULTURE STUDIES

BA Programmes

Ma m phil/phd programmes, (1) centre of persian and central asian studies.

• The CUET-PG examination is scheduled to be held from March 11–March 28, 2024, in the CBT (Computer Based Test) mode.

Jawaharlal Nehru University, also known as JNU, is a central university in New Delhi that was established in the year 1969. The university is fully funded by the Government of India. 

It was established to meet the challenges of the knowledge era and keep up with the pace of knowledge explosion in higher education. The university is committed to inculcating quality into all dimensions of higher education. 

The university offers 181 courses across the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. A few of the JNU courses are offered across multiple specialisations. 

These courses are offered across multiple streams like  Computer Application and IT , Sciences, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Commerce , Engineering and Architecture, and others. JNU courses include B.A. Hons, M.A., M.Sc, M.Tech, M.C.A., M.P.H. and M.B.A programmes. 

The university offers admission to eligible candidates who fill out the application form before the due date.  The university accepts CUET-UG scores for JNU UG admissions and CUET-PG scores for JNU PG admissions. 

Candidates seeking JNU admission to B.Tech programmes are required to appear in the JEE Main examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). JNU provides many facilities for the students so that their stay becomes easy during their academic life. Hostels for boys and girls, a gym, sports facilities, laboratories, libraries, a computer centre and medical facilities are available for the students. 

JNU also has a placement cell that aims to get as many students recruited as possible. A number of fellowships and scholarships are also provided by JNU.

College was quite good.

The infrastructure is pretty good compared to other government colleges in the city. Laboratories are built with almost new technology. There is a Wi-Fi facility for students. Computers are accessible for students during working hours. Library also provided updated books. We got lots of facilities but quality of food was not good enough other than that other facilities like grounds are made for different types of sports which are practiced there and there is also canteen where you get many essential eating items the medical facilities were good.

Now application forms for phD will be released in December 2024 for which enteanxe exam will be held in April or May 2025.

Eligibility-

The candidate must be of 21 years old ( minimum), the candidate must have secured minimum 55 % marks in master's Course,  If you want to pursue phD in political science then you must have master's degree in political science with 55% .

The candidate must obtain following marks out of 70 in written test of doctorate studies to be invited to viva voce Examination.

JNU to accept NET score instead of entrance exams for PhD programmes

J awaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has announced a change in its selection process for admission to its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes. Starting from the current academic year, JNU will accept the National Eligibility Test (NET) score instead of conducting its own entrance test, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This decision comes after the University Grants Commission (UGC) issued a directive allowing universities to use the NET scores for PhD admissions, as stated in a notice released by JNU on Saturday.

The move to use NET scores for PhD admissions replaces the entrance test previously conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). According to the notice, JNU will implement this change for the academic session 2024-25.

However, this decision has sparked concerns among some students. The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) expressed apprehensions that replacing PhD entrance exams with NET scores could disadvantage students from marginalised backgrounds, leading to fewer opportunities for them to pursue research. Following a protest at the UGC Headquarters, the JNUSU met with a UGC Joint Secretary, highlighting their concerns. The UGC Joint Secretary assured them that the matter would be discussed internally and reiterated that universities have the autonomy to conduct their entrance exams.

In response to these developments, JNUSU is scheduled to meet with the Director of Admissions on April 29 to demand that the PhD entrance exam for this year and future years be conducted through JNUEE, the university's own entrance examination.

A warm welcome to the modified and updated website of the Centre for East Asian Studies. The East Asian region has been at the forefront of several path-breaking changes since 1970s beginning with the redefining the development architecture with its State-led development model besides emerging as a major region in the global politics and a key hub of the sophisticated technologies. The Centre is one of the thirteen Centres of the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi that provides a holistic understanding of the region.

Initially, established as a Centre for Chinese and Japanese Studies, it subsequently grew to include Korean Studies as well. At present there are eight faculty members in the Centre. Several distinguished faculty who have now retired include the late Prof. Gargi Dutt, Prof. P.A.N. Murthy, Prof. G.P. Deshpande, Dr. Nranarayan Das, Prof. R.R. Krishnan and Prof. K.V. Kesavan. Besides, Dr. Madhu Bhalla served at the Centre in Chinese Studies Programme during 1994-2006. In addition, Ms. Kamlesh Jain and Dr. M. M. Kunju served the Centre as the Documentation Officers in Chinese and Japanese Studies respectively.

The academic curriculum covers both modern and contemporary facets of East Asia as each scholar specializes in an area of his/her interest in the region. The integrated course involves two semesters of classes at the M. Phil programme and a dissertation for the M. Phil and a thesis for Ph. D programme respectively. The central objective is to impart an interdisciplinary knowledge and understanding of history, foreign policy, government and politics, society and culture and political economy of the respective areas. Students can explore new and emerging themes such as East Asian regionalism, the evolving East Asian Community, the rise of China, resurgence of Japan and the prospects for reunification of the Korean peninsula. Additionally, the Centre lays great emphasis on the building of language skills. The background of scholars includes mostly from the social science disciplines; History, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, International Relations and language.

Several students of the centre have been recipients of prestigious research fellowships awarded by Japan Foundation, Mombusho (Ministry of Education, Government of Japan), Saburo Okita Memorial Fellowship, Nippon Foundation, Korea Foundation, Nehru Memorial Fellowship, and Fellowship from the Chinese and Taiwanese Governments. Besides, students from Japan receive fellowship from the Indian Council of Cultural Relations.
