Free the inspector from its popover shackles

Lifelong fan of Keynote here, all the way back to 1.0. It’s clearly still the ultimate piece of software of its kind, but the iPad UI needs to grow up. Limiting the inspector to popovers on everything except the 12.9” iPad Pro is, at this point in time, lazy. The area a slide would be afforded on an 11” iPad Pro if the persistent inspector panel were to its right is more than sufficient already. Compound this with the navigator’s ability to hide dynamically as well as the fact that zooming is so much easier on iPadOS than Mac, and you realize that even smaller iPads might be ok with this approach. Additionally, more advanced and adaptive ways of surfacing inspector-like UIs have evolved in both third and first party apps. A lot of screen real estate would be available to a horizontal version of the inspector, given that slides gravitate heavily toward 16:9 dimensions, while iPads display them on a 4:3 screen and move that ratio even further away from 16:9 due to the space needed for the navigator.
When I got my iPad, I saw this app all the time and I thought, “ Why do they put this app on here, I don’t think we would need it.” ZThen, it was getting closer to my dads sisters birthday. She took care of us when my mom was in the hospital and spent nearly all her money on us. I thought she really did something really special for everything she did so I decided I would look through the apps that I’ve never been on and I came up to the Keynote app.I tried it out and I saw that you could use by and I decided that I would you know just kinda like put some nice birthday stuff on there. Put a nice happy birthday song and have some nice note her husband had some things I wanted to say to her you know romance, so we decided that he could pick some poems on there. Then there can my uncle/my aunt which is the birthday girls brother. And he said what are you doing for the a lot of my iPad when I was on keto and I told him that I was really making a surprise for my aunt. Let’s call her candy. My uncle also wanted to do something so he said let’s go get some balloons and cake. Then in the evening of her birthday we got the cake from Maya and the balloons from a party place and the things you like the most was the presentation on keynote. It made her super happy.

Great! A Few Suggestions, Though

When I first got this iPad, I thought Keynote was just one of those useless apps that just happens to appear on your device once you get it. Then one day I decided to try it out; and believe me, I was wrong. It’s awesome!!! I do like everything on it. But there was one day I did do a presentation on Keynote, and there is one thing that I needed to do for it that you can do on Keynote. That was to remove background on videos. You can remove background perfectly fine on photos. Why not on videos? It’s just like a photo, but it captures movement and sound. so my one and only request of this amazing and functional app is that it can remove background on videos. and this word REALLYE the best app ever if it was easier to use your finger and/or Apple Pencil and draw on the presentation. I later found out that there is a way to do that, but I would appreciate it if I could access the drawing toolbox a bit easier.

Keynote, part of the iWork suite of office and productivity apps for iPhone and iPad, is Apple's entry into the presentations software space, and most impressively — the one used by the late Steve Jobs himself. With Keynote you can make presentations for work or for school, for conferences or for pitches, for conceptual design or story boarding of any kind, and much, much more.

Part of what makes Keynote appealing over other presentation apps are the wealth of professional and modern templates and transitions it houses. The iPhone and iPad versions are easy to use and allow anyone to create a great looking presentation in very little time. Regardless what your presentation needs are, odds are you'll find something suitable for your project in Keynote.

iCloud users can sync their Keynote documents between iPhone, iPad, and with Keynote for Mac , as well as share and collaborate online via iWork on iCloud on iCloud.com. You can start a presentation on your iPad and pick up right where you left off on your Mac. No folders to weed through and organize, iCloud puts all your iWork documents where they need to be.

When it comes time to share your presentation with others, you can save in many different formats including .ppt and .pptx so anyone using Microsoft Office won't have compatibility issues. The opposite holds true as well and Keynote users can open Microsoft PowerPoint documents just as easily. Export to PDF is also supported. For those that are not completely sold on Keynote for iPad just yet, give Office for iPad a hard look too before deciding which one is right for your needs.

Keynote is $4.99 but is made free to any new iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad owner.

Hands down the best iwork app in the suite.

Apple Keynote in 2022

TechRadar Verdict

Apple Keynote is a beautifully designed alternative to Microsoft PowerPoint that's free to all Apple device users. Like other members of the Apple iWork suite, its biggest limitation is that it isn't available on Windows and Android devices

Ease of use

Impressive in-line video features

Free to Apple users

Easy to have multiple speakers using the same deck

Not a practical choice for non-Apple users

Conversion to Microsoft PowerPoint isn't always smooth

Limited features that could be a turnoff for some

Why you can trust TechRadar We spend hours testing every product or service we review, so you can be sure you’re buying the best. Find out more about how we test.

First introduced in 2003, Apple Keynote is part of the iWork suite that also includes Apple Pages and Apple Numbers . Steadily updated over the years, the presentation software takes a minimalist approach when it comes to design making, and that's one of the most significant differences between it and Microsoft's industry-leading app, PowerPoint. To date, Apple Keynote is available on Mac, iPad, iPhone, and through iCloud on the web.

There are many reasons to consider Apple Keynote for your presentation needs — and a few others that might convince you it's best to look elsewhere for a solution. So let's take a look at this beautifully-designed app.

Apple Keynote: Plans and pricing

In 2017, Apple began offering its iWork suite across its many platforms. Apple's iMovie and GarageBand also became free at the same time. The app comes preinstalled on Mac, and you download it from the App Store on iPhone and iPad. Previously, the company charged up to $20 each for Apple Keynote and other iWork apps.

Apple Keynote templates

Apple Keynote: Features

Like the other apps in iWork, Apple Keynote is built around templates that make creating a digital presentation quick and easy. And yet, even when starting from scratch, it's relatively simple to create your next design masterpiece.

Inevitably, any discussion about the iWork app circles back to how it compares to the Microsoft equivalent. However, when it comes to Apple Keynote vs. Microsoft PowerPoint, there's another component at play here. If you're new to presentation design, you'll find no more straightforward solution than Apple Keynote, and that could be reason enough to choose this solution if you're an Apple user. If, however, you're a long-term or even a casual PowerPoint user, you might feel underwhelmed by Apple's solution. The reason: the app offers far fewer advanced features than PowerPoint.

Feature-wise, you're going to love the Apple Keynote templates . These are arranged by various categories, such as craft, portfolio, and editorial. It's also possible to create templates as starting points for future presentations. You can assess them on any device using iCloud . Among the pre-packaged templates are ones called Improv, Kyoto, Chalkboard, and many others.

You can customize your Keynote presentation by selecting from over 700 Apple-designed shapes, galleries, math equations, and charts. For further customization, Apple makes it possible to take a photo or scan a document with your iPhone, then send it directly to Keynote on your Mac using the Continuity Camera option. The slick feature works with other Apple apps and comes highly recommended.

Another feature worth considering is the option to add live video feeds to any slide. The feature is ideally suited when giving remote presentations or offering how-to videos and lectures. The live video works with the built-in camera on your Mac, iPhone, or iPad. For something different, consider creating the live feed from your mobile device and broadcasting it through Apple Keynote on Mac. It's a fresh way to show off apps or other content.

Using videos in a Keynote presentation is further enhanced by playing videos across various slides without the need to restart or stop the video. You can also change the video's position, size, and rotation throughout the presentation.

Apple Keynote videos

Another video-related benefit to using Apple Keynote is the option to play a slideshow in a separate window while also using other apps. You can also view your current and upcoming slides, presenter notes, and slide navigation in a separate window.

Do you need to create presentations with multiple speakers in different locations? Apple Keynote makes this possible, and, not surprisingly, those speakers can control a single deck from any supported device.

Finally, iPad users with an Apple Pencil can take advantage of a handwriting tool that's built into every iWork app. Scribble  automatically turns your handwritten numbers and data into typed text. Imagine using this tool with digital forms that end-users might be asked to fill out at a school or organization — no typing required.

Microsoft PowerPoint bests Apple Keynote in certain areas despite all of these positives. For one, there's the question of compatibility. Native Keynote files can't be opened outside of Apple devices, which is a huge issue. Additionally, even though you can convert Keynote files into PowerPoint versions, the conversion process isn't always perfect.

Finally, PowerPoint offers more tools than the ones available on Keynote. This might mean very little to new users, but it's a big deal for presentation experts.

There's another area where Keynote bests PowerPoint: the price. While Microsoft charges a fee for its product, Apple does not.

Apple Keynote: Interface and in use

Apple has gone out of its way to create a Keynote experience that's much less cumbersome than the one you will find with PowerPoint, which uses Microsoft's signature Ribbon. Minimalist in nature, the Keynote setup works very well because of its intuitiveness. Even first-time users know, for example, what's to be discovered under the toolbar's Table, Chart, and Media links. The same goes for the Format link that opens a sidebar on the right side of the app. You can adjust the document style, layout, and more from here.

Apple Keynote: Support

You can access Apple Support through the company's website . In addition, the Apple Support Community is another excellent resource. Most likely, if you have a question or concern about any part of the iWork suite, it's been discussed here.

Apple Keynote: The competition

Microsoft PowerPoint is the king of presentation apps, but it's not the only game in town. A long list of free alternatives is available, including Google Slides, WPS Office Free, and Prezi. Each solution has its own advantages and disadvantages that often come down to compatibility.

Be sure to check out our post on the best free presentation software and alternatives to PowerPoint and our most recent Microsoft PowerPoint review .

Apple Keynote: Final verdict

Apple Keynote is the best app in the Apple iWork suite, thanks to its ease of use. Whether on Mac, iPad, iPhone, or through the web, you can create beautiful presentations in just a few steps. The biggest concern is a familiar one with other Apple apps: it's not from Microsoft, which means many people can't use it currently.

Use a remote to control a Keynote presentation

You can use your iPad as a remote control to play a presentation on a Mac or on another device. This setup is especially useful when iPad is connected to an external display . If you’re playing a presentation on your iPad, you can control the presentation using your iPhone (or its companion Watch), or another iPad as a remote control.

Important: To use an iPhone or iPad with iOS 14 or iPadOS 14 as a remote, Keynote needs permission to connect to other devices on your local network. Go to Settings > Privacy > Local Network, then turn on Keynote.

Set up iPad as a remote control for a presentation on a Mac

The Mac and the iPad need to have Keynote installed and have Wi-Fi turned on.

Open Keynote on the iPad that you want to use as a remote.

the Remote button

The device displays the Set Up Remote screen.

Note: Tap OK if you’re asked to allow Keynote to find and connect to devices on your local network.

Permanently unlink a remote: Click Unlink next to a device.

Temporarily unlink all linked remote: Deselect Enable so the device remains linked but isn’t functional as a remote. Reselect Enable when you want to use it again.

Keynote Remote uses Multipeer Connectivity, which allows newer iOS devices, iPadOS devices, and Mac computers that have the latest version of Keynote to connect over Wi-Fi whenever they’re in close proximity, even when they aren’t on the same Wi-Fi network. If you have difficulty using Keynote Remote with older devices or Mac computers over Wi-Fi, try adding them to the same Wi-Fi network.

Note: The old Keynote Remote app previously available from the App Store is no longer supported.

8 Things I’ve Learned Using an iPad for Presentations

I love using my iPad for travel to conferences, and not just because it’s so lightweight and its battery lasts all day. For one thing, with the LTE version I’m not beholden to conference Wi-Fi; while some conferences have good connectivity, I never want to count on it. With the iPad I can nearly always get online.

But the iPad isn’t convenient only for attending conferences. It’s a good tool for presentations, too-or at least an excellent backup for a dedicated computer. I can easily be ready to present if I have a last-minute computer replacement.

Still, I had some things to learn the hard way about using an iPad for presentations. Perhaps I can save you a few steps.

The Basics of Getting Started

Learn the differences between “desktop” keynote and the ipad version.

While I present nearly exclusively from an iPad, I usually build my initial presentation on a Mac. I build all of my presentations in Keynote, and store them in iCloud. I can (and do) make tweaks to a presentation on-site via the iPad version of Keynote, but it always feels as though I’m slightly fighting with the software.

Keynote supports a customizable presenter display in both versions. On the Mac desktop version, you can pick three ways to give yourself that during-the-talk cheat sheet, instructing it to show you the current slide, next slide, and presenter notes. On the iPad, the presenter display options only give you a “two out of three” option, between current slide, next slide, and presenter notes. I begrudgingly pick Next Slide and Presenter Notes, and then I hope the venue has a confidence monitor that shows me what’s on the projector behind me.

Some folks prefer to use Powerpoint or Google Slides. This distills down to religion, and I can confidently state that those people are wrong. Both tools offer iPad versions as well, but I’m not well versed in them. Deckset doesn’t offer an iPad version, and I’ve not had much patience for the swath of custom JavaScript-based presentation tools that render Markdown inside of browsers. I want to like them, but I can’t quite get there yet. As a result, use Keynote; you’ll be happier. As an added bonus, the presentations live in iCloud; with a bit of notice you can grab a copy on someone’s Mac, iPhone, or iPad and be back in business should calamity befall your iPad.

Do be aware that this means that if your presentation requires a demo in a terminal or a web browser, you either get to do some awkward transitions—or accept that presenting from an iPad isn’t right for this talk. I still haven’t found a good way to give my “Terrible Ideas in Git” talk from an iPad due to its live demos…

Invest in a presentation remote

A presentation remote is a necessity, unless you enjoy being trapped behind the podium. I treated myself to a little luxury with the  Logitech Spotlight .

This device does it all. It speaks its own wireless protocol via a USB-A dongle that plugs into most laptops, but the Spotlight also speaks Bluetooth with a great range. Its battery charges using a built-in USB-C port that hides behind the dongle, and a single charge lasts for months.

I freely accept that most folks find the idea of paying $129 for a single-purpose device a bit nutty. Those folks generally don’t give double-digit numbers of presentations a year. A word of caution: Don’t leave it behind at the podium after your talk. It’s expensive enough to buy the first time. Please don’t ask me how I know.

Pay attention to fonts and typefaces

I have a condition I jokingly refer to as “typeface blindness.” I can’t tell the difference between most fonts unless I stare at them and actively work out what I’m seeing. I’m told this is atypical, and whenever I forget this fact I get reminded on Twitter. “Well, that’s the fifth talk so far today that uses Helvetica (the system default)” always makes me facepalm. As a result, I make it a point to not use system default fonts.

Contrary to what many folks believe, you can use custom fonts on iOS, but the process is a bit arcane. Do yourself a favor and drop the $2 for  AnyFont . This magic app streamlines an otherwise incredibly painful process.

Lessons I’ve Learned

I’m conservative here; while you can save money by buying third party adapters, I find that minimizing the risk of screwing up a presentation in front of 400 people is worth the extortionate rate that Apple charges for first party adapters. You’ll want both HDMI and VGA adapters. Both of these are available in Lightning and USB-C flavors, depending upon which generation of iPad you’re using. Note that this is less of a concern with USB-C than it is with Lightning adapters—just make certain you test all of your adapters before you leave home.

Save time; don’t bother looking for DVI adapters. The iPad officially doesn’t support it, Apple doesn’t sell them for Lightning, and I’ve only ever encountered it on the speaking circuit once. Your test a few hours before your talk will validate that you’ll be okay.

You can never be too rich, too thin, or have a big enough battery pack

Grab a beefy battery pack, and you can go days without finding a power outlet. You don’t want to discover that the podium power strip is full, the extension cord is a trip hazard, or that you don’t have the right adapter for the country you’re in when it’s time to give a talk. Having a battery pack that can borderline jump-start a car means you’re fine so long as your iPad battery level is anywhere about roughly 3%. (Too much lower and the tablet won’t boot at all.)

I like Anker products for this, but your mileage may vary. I soundly endorse finding reputable brands. Saving a few bucks on chargers, cables, or batteries that (a) plug into a very expensive electronic device and (b) have a propensity to include “sets the building on fire” in their list of failure modes just never seemed worth the trade-off to me.

Note: If you need to give away something at a booth, don’t use branded USB battery packs or chargers, as swag. At best, they’re cheap and feel flimsy. At worst, something with your logo on it started a fire.

Spend extra for an LTE connection

You can tether your iPad to a mobile device or ride on conference Wi-Fi. However, if you’re presenting frequently it’s worth the extra money to get an iPad version that can speak to the cell networks. Suddenly you no longer care what the conference Wi-Fi password is, whether you remembered to charge your phone, or if the captive portal login page is going to expire and pop up again mid-presentation.

Speaking of which…

Before the presentation, turn on both “Do Not Disturb” and “Airplane Mode”

In presentation mode, Keynote swears that it blocks pop-ups, reminders, incoming calls, and other distractions. To its credit, I’ve never seen it do otherwise.

That said, I always enable Do Not Disturb on my iPad. I put the device in airplane mode. And only then do I plug in the projector. Perhaps I’m paranoid, but you’re also not seeing horrible screenshots from my talks that feature embarrassing notifications, either.

Update nothing before your presentation

If a new iOS version or a Keynote update comes out the same week as your presentation, fine. But resist the upgrade. It can wait a day.

There have been enough regressions in software over the years that I’m extremely hesitant to trust that everything will “just work” an hour before I go on stage.

These are the sometimes-hard-won lessons I’ve learned after spending a year giving talks solely from an iPad.

Changing of the Guard: “AWS Appoints Matt Garman as CEO”

This morning’s announcement that Adam Selipsky would be stepping down as AWS CEO, with longtime Amazonian Matt Garman stepping into the role, feels like a natural correction. The best presentation apps for iphone and ipad.

presentation software ipad pro

In the wake of the demise of Symbian phones, the near death of BlackBerry and the expensive failure called Windows Phone, there are two obvious mobile OS competitors still standing: Android and iOS. As smartphones, tablets and phablets invade the mobile market, it is only a matter of time before desktop operating systems face the prospect of extinction, unless they somehow evolve. In the wake of this shift, it is necessary for presenters to gear up for things to come.

In a previous post we brought you our list of the best presentation apps for Android . This time we have compiled a similar list for iOS devices. The presentation apps listed below are a combination of applications meant to help presenters create, edit, view, present and remotely control presentations using iDevices.

[This article contains affiliate links. For more information, see our disclosures here .]

1) P owerPoint

Maybe it’s my bias being a PC guy or maybe because Apple is too high and mighty to let Keynote evolve with better cross-platform compatibility. Either way, PowerPoint for iOS is number one in our list of the best presentation apps for iPhone and iPad.

Many end users have complained about the need for an Office 365 subscription that is required to use PowerPoint for iOS, considering there have been a plethora of free apps providing PowerPoint support on iDevices even before this app was launched.

However, like all good things in life, it is only natural that PowerPoint for iDevices isn’t exactly free. While you can get the app for free via the App Store and create or edit documents by signing in with a free Microsoft account, to make the app really worth using, you would need to log in using an Office 365 account .

PowerPoint for iOS brings the famous desktop presentation to iDevices with support for charts, tables, SmartArt Graphics, animations, transitions, speaker notes, etc. Furthermore, like the desktop editions of PowerPoint 2013 and 2016, PowerPoint for iOS also provides a built-in laser pointer, pen and highlighter. Other options include integration with OneDrive, Dropbox & SharePoint.

With PowerPoint for iOS you not only get all great features of the desktop edition of PowerPoint but you can also wirelessly project a presentation using AirPlay, as well as control your slides using an Apple Watch.

Since PowerPoint is available for a wide variety of platforms like Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, Windows Phone, and provides cloud based variants in the form of PowerPoint Online and Office 365, it is much easier to use PowerPoint files for presentations. In fact, many third-party services and apps like Google Drive, SlideShark and WPS Office also provide support for PowerPoint files.

However, it is safe to say that native PowerPoint support on iDevices from the official PowerPoint app by Microsoft is the best option for creating, editing and viewing presentations on an iPhone or iPad device.

Powerpoint for ios

When it comes to making quality presentations, Keynote is an app that cannot be ignored. While there is no real way of using Keynote on a PC or Android device, it is one of the most commonly used presentation apps for Apple users.

For those who have never used Keynote, it gives a plethora of PowerPoint like features for making presentations using readymade themes, with support for adding charts, tables, shapes, etc. Like PowerPoint, Keynote has also added collaboration features (currently going through the beta stage).

Just like OneDrive for PowerPoint, Keynote too provides cloud integration using iCloud. By all means, Keynote is a powerful presentation and there is no shortage of third-party templates which come with some extraordinary graphics and attention grabbing themes.

Other than Apple devices, the iCloud web app allows creating and editing presentations using an internet browser. This unfortunately is the only option for using Keynote other than on an Apple device. This restricts the scope for using Keynote files for presentations and since we live in a PC world, cross-platform compatibility is still a major hurdle for Keynote users.

That said, Keynote is still one of the best presentation apps for presenters and this is why it’s number 2 on our list for recommended presentation apps for presenters using iPhone & iPad devices.

3) Google Slides

While Google Slides isn’t the kind of app which provides killer features, it is decent enough to get the job done. Google Slides provide support for PowerPoint files and this app by Google has come a long way since Google Drive apps were rebranded a few years back.

If you’re looking for a decent iOS app which is free to use and can help you create, edit and view presentations from popular formats (e.g. PowerPoint & PDF presentations), then Google Slides isn’t a bad option. Lately, Google Slides templates have improved in quality and third-party template providers for this underrated platform have also begun providing high-quality templates . While Google Slides lags far behind PowerPoint, as we discussed in our comparison of Google Slides Vs PowerPoint , this poor man’s PowerPoint still deserves a bit of love.

4) Adobe Spark Video

Adobe is known to produce high-quality applications. Ranging from its high-end apps like PhotoShop, Premiere Pro to the free Adobe Reader that millions of users use to view PDF files; Adobe is a name tied to quality apps. Adobe Spark Video is a little known presentation app that can help you create studio quality video presentations.

Unlike most low-end or mid-ranged Android devices, iPhone and iPad devices tend to be more efficient in offering the kind of hardware which can help record better quality videos. This is perhaps the reason apps like Adobe Spark are usually not available for Android. While an Adobe Spark offering for Android is currently in development, it is likely that it might only work with high-end devices. The point is that iDevices have the kind of hardware that gives an edge in making video presentations. You might make such a presentation or video clip by interviewing people on the streets or by capturing an extraordinary event on your mobile device. Such video clips can add a powerful touch to your presentations and enable you to reach out at a very personal level to win hearts and minds.

Coming to Adobe Spark features; you can create videos with a voice-over using an iDevice, add a soundtrack and let the app do its magic. You can choose from an archive of more than 25,000 images and icons for your visual stories and let Adobe Spark automatically render your videos with cinematic animations to give your video presentations and clips a professional look. You can also choose between various themes, fonts and upload videos online.

Adobe spark

5) HaikuDeck

HaikuDeck can be used for making attractive presentation decks via iPhone, iPad or web. You can begin making presentations on an iDevice by logging in using your HaikuDeck account, pick a template and start making slides using all major features you would expect in a good presentation app.

What makes HaikuDeck worth using are the very attractive graphics, availability of a plethora of images, a wide range of useful layouts and the ability to publish your slides online. HaikuDeck is not just a presentation maker but also an app you can use to present presentations in fullscreen mode on iOS devices. Needless to say, you can connect your iDevice to a projector to use HaikuDeck just like Keynote or PowerPoint to present professional presentations.

HaikuDeck has a free and a paid version, with the utility to opt for in-app purchases. But that’s not a bad thing. The high-quality graphics and imagery in premium content (e.g. premium templates) are worth the cost.

6) SlideIdea

SlideIdea is the kind of unique app that can help presenters make their presentations more attention grabbing. The app supports three formats, i.e. PDF, PowerPoint and the app’s very own SLD format. The app comes integrated with OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, Box & KingSoft Cloud to help you instantly import an existing slide deck for remodeling.

You can either import a slide deck or make one from scratch using some very attractive templates offered by SlideIdea. The editing features are similar to PowerPoint and Keynote, with a vast library of slide elements, support for whiteboard, animations and some handy transitions to switch your slides in style. Furthermore, you can add audio recording and video clips to create Slidecasts, as well as engage your audience using online polls.

SlideIdea is only available for iPad and works with devices running iOS 5.0 or above.

7) Prezi Viewer

It is sad to see that Prezi only has a Prezi Viewer for iDevices. Like its Android counterpart, this app is good for viewing and presenting Prezis. Since you can’t make Prezis on iDevices using an app, Prezi Viewer is only useful for presenters looking to use their iDevices for presenting Prezis.

8. SlideShark

Back in the day, SlideShark was one of the top presentation apps for iOS. However, since the advent for PowerPoint for iOS, its importance has arguably diminished. SlideShark is another app that can be used for viewing and presenting presentations. SlideShark supports uploading, viewing, presenting and sharing PowerPoint presentations while retaining original fonts, animations, colors and graphics. Moreover, there are a number of handy annotation features that can help you annotate slides during a Live presentation.

SlideShark also gives the utility to broadcast presentations online to share them with your audience during a Live presentation. The premium edition of SlideShark also supports PDF files.

9. MyPoint PowerPoint Remote

This is a simple app for remotely controlling PowerPoint slides running on a PC or Mac computer. You will need to install the connector app for your computer, as well as the iOS app for MyPoint PowerPoint Remote on your iDevice.

You can start your SlideShow directly from an iDevice remotely and instantly begin controlling your slides. The app has some advanced premium features that you can opt for, these include annotation tools like a pointer and marker, as well as a timer to time, rehearse and see the elapsed time for your slides.

10) Video Teleprompter

While iDevices have always had some good teleprompter apps, this one is as good as it gets. Video Teleprompter not only allows you to instantly turn your iPhone or iPad device into a teleprompter to read out a script but also enables recording video presentations.

The on-screen teleprompter can play your script and at the same time record your video using your iOS camera to enable you to create a video presentation or podcast.

Video Teleprompter provides good legibility for text that scrolls on your screen and makes it possible for you to face the camera while reading your script as if you are talking to your audience. Hence, it serves the dual purpose of acting as a teleprompter and video recording tool, which makes it perfect for making video presentations or video clips that you might want to include in your slides.

We hope our list of the best presentation apps for iPhone and iPad gave you some useful ideas for making more robust presentations using iDevices. The apps mentioned above can not only be used as standalone presentation apps but you can also use a number of these apps to add something special to your presentations. In fact, you might find it very useful to use some of the above mentioned apps in conjunction to design high-quality slides, video clips and to present them using an iPhone or iPad device.

If you know of an awesome iOS presentation app which you believe should have been included in this list, do share your views with us by leaving a comment below.

Unfortunately SlideShark is going out of business late fall 2018. That is unfortunate – it was the only 3rd party tool for iPads that rendered Powerpoint files correctly.

For the teams that use common cloud storage platforms like Google Drive, Box, OneDrive, Sharepoint etc to manage their files, I’d like to recommend https://CrescendoApp.com as a great and inexpensive alternative to large, complex and expensive platforms like Showpad.

Thanks for the update Marek. We’d urge any readers you have been using SlideShark to check out their FAQ page at https://www.brainshark.com/sites/default/files/slideshark-discontinue-faq.pdf for further explanation.

The Crescendo app is certainly worth looking at.

Apps on the Home Screen

  • Apps on the Dock
  • Extra: Additional Apps

Did you know some of the best apps for the iPad are already on your device? Apple includes a number of apps with the iPad including a music player, a calendar, maps, reminders, etc. So before you hit the app store in search of the perfect app, you will want to familiarize yourself with what apps come with the iPad.

We'll start with an app that is not even on the Home Screen. Siri is the voice-recognition assistant on the iPad, and, unfortunately, when you consider how much Siri can boost productivity , it is often overlooked by new users. Activate Siri by holding down the Home Button for a few seconds and interact with her through normal language. For example, "What is the weather like outside?" will get you the forecast, and "Launch Calendar" will open the Calendar app.

These apps are loaded onto the iPad's Home Screen. Remember, the Home Screen can have multiple pages, so to see all of these apps you may need to swipe to page two. You can do this by placing your finger on the right side of the screen and moving it to the left side of the screen without lifting it. Because you probably won't use all of these apps, you may want to delete those you will never use or simply move them to a folder .

  • FaceTime . FaceTime is the video conferencing software that links the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. First introduced on the iPhone, it is actually rather  easy to use FaceTime on the iPad . You can make FaceTime calls on 4G or Wi-Fi, and if you don't like the idea of video conferencing, you can also make audio calls through FaceTime.
  • Calendar . The calendar app will allow you to set up events and share them through iCloud with any other compatible devices such as your iPhone. The iPad can also pull in events that are sent to you in Mail or through iMessage. You can also add to the Calendar by telling Siri to "Schedule a meeting with Michael for tomorrow at 9 AM."
  • Photos . Where do all those photos that you take with the Camera and Photo Booth go? They go to an internal folder that can be accessed with the Photos app. You can also set this app up to do a slideshow. If you aren't going to be using your iPad to take many photos, this app makes a great candidate for moving to the home screen.
  • Camera . The iPad 2 added both a front-facing and a back-facing camera, and both can be accessed through the Camera app. Simply tap the button in the upper-right corner to switch between cameras. You can also go from picture mode to video mode with the switch at the bottom right.
  • Contacts . The iPad supports both instant messaging through the Messages app and video conferencing through the FaceTime app, so having your contacts on the iPad can be very handy. Best of all, these contacts can be synced with your iPhone via iCloud, so you never have to worry about manually typing in the contacts from your phone.
  • Clock . The Clock app contains an alarm clock, a stopwatch, and a timer. It also has the Bedtime feature, which recommends sleep time based on your sleep patterns. And, of course, it will give you both the current time and the current time in different places in the world. You can even add a specific location to the world clock view, and if you don't want to hunt for the app, you can set a timer by telling Siri to "set timer for 10 minutes".
  • Maps . Don't dismiss the Maps app just because you may have GPS installed in your car. Maps has become a great alternative to Google search with the ability to locate restaurants and businesses in a specific area. This makes it a great way to find the closest movie theater, fun attractions or a great place to shop for clothes. It is also tied into Yelp, so you can get instant reviews of your search results.
  • Home . If you are interested in "smart" technology, you will want to become familiar with the HomeKit on your iPad. This is the app that will keep track of all the various smart devices in your home, such as a smart thermostat, front door lock, or garage door.
  • Videos . The videos application is where you play the movies and TV shows you buy on iTunes or transferred to the iPad from your personal library. The videos app can also play movies from the cloud, so if you bought a movie from iTunes on your PC, you can play it on your iPad without transferring it.
  • Notes . The equivalent of Notepad on Windows, the Notes app does exactly as you would expect: allows you to type in a quick note. But don't dismiss it. Because you can store notes in iCloud, it makes a great way to create a grocery list that you can type on your Mac or iPad and then view on your iPhone at the store. It also supports drawing , images, and basic formatting like bold, italics, etc. Oh, since notes can be shared with (and edited by) other people, it's a good alternative for small collaborations, too.
  • Reminders . The Reminders app can serve two purposes. First, it is great for setting up a reminder. You can choose a day and time for the reminder and even have it repeat on a regular basis. Second, it can be a great task list. And last, it is easy to tell Siri to "remind me to take out the trash tomorrow morning."
  • News . The News app is a great way to start the morning. When you first launch News, you will be asked to pick out some of your favorite topics. After you set it up, News will give you a curated look at the news with an emphasis on those topics. The News app takes content from around the web, so you'll read articles from the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, etc.
  • iTunes Store . The iPad version of the store has most of the same features as the PC version. You can buy movies to play with the Videos app and music to play using the Music app. You can also download any music you bought using iTunes on your PC without actually hooking up your iPad to your PC.
  • App Store . The App Store is where all the fun begins. This application is used to buy games and apps for your iPad. And don't worry, even if you don't want to spend money on an app, there are plenty of great free apps available for the iPad .
  • iBooks . The iPad makes a great eReader and supports various third-party readers like Amazon's Kindle, but iBooks may be the very best reader for the iPad. It has those extra touches that Apple is known for and includes a healthy store with almost any book you can imagine.
  • Settings . All of the settings for both the iPad and various apps are included in the Settings app. You can limit notifications, turn off Wi-Fi, add parental restrictions and configure your email accounts from within the Settings app .
  • Tips. If you are just getting started with the iPad, you may want to give Tips a look. This app is exactly what you would think: a collection of tips and tricks for getting more out of your iPad experience.
  • Podcasts . The Internet has changed the world in many ways, including the ability for anyone to host their own talk radio show. Podcasts can range from the educational to the entertaining and almost everything in between. Like the iBooks, Videos, and Music apps, the Podcasts app allows you to add and organize your podcasts.
  • Photo Booth . This neat application will let you take fun photos, including one with a twirl effect that will make the image look like it was taken through a circus mirror and a stretch effect that can create the longest chin in the world.
  • Find iPhone.  After all this time, the Find My iPad app is still called Find iPhone. But it acts the same regardless of if you launch it on the iPhone, iPad, or on your PC through icloud.com. So long as you have Find My iPad turned on, the "Find iPhone" app will show you where your iOS devices (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, etc.) are located.
  • Find Friends . This app is basically the Find iPhone app for your friends. You can elect to share your location so your friends know where you are, and if they share with you, Find Friends will show you what your friends are up to at any given moment.
  • Files . One of the best recent additions to the iPad is the Files app , which allows you to access your local documents and files on cloud services like iCloud Drive and Dropbox all in one location. Combined with the drag-and-drop feature , this makes a powerful one-two punch for managing files.
  • iCloud Drive . This app doesn't automatically install, but you may be asked to install it if you use iCloud services. It is basically a file manager for apps that use iCloud Drive, such as Pages or Numbers.

Apps on the iPad Dock

The dock is the bar across the bottom of the iPad's display. The iPad comes with four apps on the dock, but it can actually hold up to six. Moving an app to the dock allows you to have quick access to it even when you are scrolling through pages of apps.

  • Messages . The Messages app will allow you to send an instant message to anyone with an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch for free. Messages is a great way to cut down on your text messages bill if you aren't on a monthly plan.
  • Safari . This is the default web browser for the iPad. As such, it makes a great candidate for remaining on the dock. You'll find that the iPad makes a great way to browse the web.
  • Mail . The mail application can be set up through settings. It supports Gmail, Yahoo mail, Hotmail, AOL mail and most other forms of email. The Mail app has a universal view that shows all of your incoming email, as well as the inboxes, broken out by the specific client. It is also a great candidate for remaining on the dock.
  • Music . The music app will let you play music downloaded from the iTunes store or synced from your computer. You can also play music on your PC without syncing to iTunes by using Home Sharing .

Additional Apps You May Have Installed

Not all iPads are created equal. Apple began giving away its iWork and iLife suite of apps to new iPad owners several years ago, but instead of using up precious storage space with these apps, Apple only preloads them onto devices with higher storage capacity. But if you have bought a new iPad within the last few years, you can still download these apps for free from the App Store.

  • Pages . The Pages app is a word processor similar to Microsoft Word. It is quite capable of most personal and light business uses.
  • Numbers . This is Apple's Excel equivalent, but don't dismiss it out of hand. It has many of the same features as Excel.
  • Keynote . The last app in the iWork suite is the presentation software package called Keynote. Like Pages and Numbers, Keynote is tied into iCloud Drive, so you can create a spreadsheet on your Mac, edit it on your iPhone and show it on your iPad.
  • Garage Band . Apple's music studio is fun enough to let you play virtual instruments and powerful enough that a band can record a song with multiple tracks into it.
  • iMovie . Perhaps the best app for personal use, iMovie lets you edit and splice together your home videos or create a fun movie trailer out of the video taken on your iPad.

EDITOR'S QUOTE:

Impossibly thin and powered by the M4 chip, the iPad Pro is one of the best-looking tablets ever. It surprises and delights, harmonizing beauty and utility for an unmatched tactile experience.

award-icon

The iPad Pro M4 feels like holding the future in your hands. It’s sleek, light, and incredibly refined, seamlessly blending cutting-edge technology with stunning design. Apple’s newest tablet redefines what’s possible with a dazzling display and a performance that transforms everyday tasks into something extraordinary.

Designer: Apple

At its heart, the M4 chip delivers unmatched speed and efficiency. Whether you’re creating digital art, editing videos, or browsing the web, everything feels faster and more responsive. The vibrant, crisp display enhances every visual experience, from movies to professional-grade design work.

The iPad Pro, powered by Apple’s M4 chip, is one of the best-looking tablets of all time. For me, what makes a product the best in its class is its ability to surprise and delight the owners and wow those around them. I’ve been using it in the last week, and it has rarely left my side. A great product ticks all the boxes, from form to function and everything in between.

Apple iPad Pro M4 with Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil Pro

This year, Apple impressed many with the tablet’s thinness. I find it shocking when I hear comments from megastar YouTubers like MKBHD, who asked who was asking for a thinner iPad and stated he would rather have the same thickness as the outgoing model but with a longer battery life. What he’s missing is that longer battery life won’t win our hearts—it’s something we can easily manage by charging up. But come on, when you pick up the iPad Pro M4 and sense how thin and light it is, that’s the tactile experience we want. The burden of carrying a heavier and thicker tablet has been lifted for me. This is a fantastic design choice, Apple. To answer his question: Who was asking for a thinner iPad Pro? Well, that was me.

We’ve all heard the saying, “less is more,” when it comes to design. Knowing and being willing to remove what’s unnecessary is much harder than adding this or that. And in this case, the reduction in thickness and weight—now down to just under a pound for the 11-inch model and a little over a pound for the 13-inch—speaks volumes the moment you pick it up. In terms of usability, whether you’re using it with the Magic Keyboard, Folio, or just on its own, it’s magical.

presentation software ipad pro

The aesthetics are simply breathtaking. The device perfectly blends elegance and sophistication with a sleek, minimalist design that looks futuristic. The aluminum body is smooth and meticulously crafted, with precise edges and a refined finish that makes it look sophisticated and high-end. You can choose between Silver and Space Gray, both with a matte finish that adds to the premium look. These colors are versatile and professional, making the iPad Pro M4 perfect for any situation. Whether you’re using it in the office, in a coffee shop, or just relaxing at home using your favorite apps, it fits right in.

My three go-to entertainment sources are Apple TV, Netflix, and YouTube. They’re simply perfect, which is the ideal place to mention that this is where iPadOS shines because these apps let you download shows to watch offline. It’s a nice touch.

Every time I use the iPad Pro in portrait mode, it reminds me of the authority a clipboard brings. Imagine someone walking into a busy room with a clipboard and pen—it gives the impression they mean business. It’s like in “House,” where Dr. Cuddy, often seen with a clipboard, epitomizes control and authority. In the episode “Insensitive” from season three, Cuddy wields her clipboard to manage the hospital’s chaos, symbolizing her command and precision. There’s a moment where she’s juggling multiple tasks, handling House’s antics, and still keeping her cool—all while holding that clipboard. It becomes a symbol of her ability to manage and orchestrate the complex dynamics of the hospital. I can see this happening in many real-world instances where people do the same, except using the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil Pro.

presentation software ipad pro

Comically, this slate of glass combined with the Apple Pencil Pro gives me that nostalgic feeling. Like Cuddy’s clipboard, the iPad Pro M4 signifies a blend of modern technology and timeless functionality. Regardless of which iPad model you pick, it’s the tool that becomes the modern-day version of the classic clipboard. This feeling of holding an essential, authoritative tool makes the iPad Pro unique. It transforms how you approach tasks, making everything feel more organized and efficient, just as a clipboard does in a busy environment. The iPad Pro M4 looks and feels futuristic but also brings a touch of nostalgia that resonates with anyone who has ever relied on the simplicity and power of a clipboard.

One of the most striking features of the iPad Pro M4 is its display. The tandem OLED screen offers brighter visuals, deeper blacks, and more vibrant colors, making everything you do on the iPad look fantastic. The screen stretches almost edge to edge, thanks to the thin bezels and lack of a home button, which gives the device a modern, clean look. Apple’s attention to detail is evident throughout. The rounded corners and chamfered edges make the iPad comfortable to hold and add to its aesthetic appeal. The buttons and ports are strategically placed to maintain the sleek lines, and even the camera bump is designed to blend in seamlessly.

presentation software ipad pro

The iPad Pro M4’s design works perfectly with its accessories. The new Magic Keyboard, for instance, enhances the iPad’s functionality and aesthetics. It features a sleek, minimalist design that matches the iPad’s finish and form. The floating cantilever design allows the iPad to magnetically attach and hover above the keyboard, offering a range of viewing angles and adding a futuristic touch. The keyboard is backlit, excellent for working in low-light conditions, and the keys are well-spaced with a scissor mechanism that provides a comfortable, responsive typing experience. The integrated trackpad supports multi-touch gestures and cursor functionality, transforming the iPad Pro into a more laptop-like device and boosting productivity.

presentation software ipad pro

Additionally, the Magic Keyboard includes a USB-C port for passthrough charging, allowing you to charge the iPad while keeping its main USB-C port free for other accessories. The magnetic attachment and smart connector ensure seamless connectivity, with no need for pairing or separate charging. When closed, the Magic Keyboard serves as a protective cover for the iPad Pro, shielding both the front and back from scratches and minor impacts. Despite its robust build, the Magic Keyboard remains relatively lightweight and slim, enhancing the portability of the iPad Pro without adding significant bulk.

Of course, that begs the question: Is the iPad Pro M4 any more magical than the last iPad M2? Well, that depends on your expectations, requirements, and lifestyle. If you’re like me and value the blend of cutting-edge technology with an elegant and functional design, the iPad Pro M4 is a clear winner. The improvements in weight, thinness, and display quality, combined with the powerful M4 processor, make it not just a tool but a companion that delights in every use.

Apple has perfected the ergonomics with the iPad Pro M4. Its lightweight and slim profile make it a joy to hold, whether you’re using it in portrait or landscape mode. The intuitive placement of buttons and ports ensures easy access without disrupting the device’s sleek lines. A significant improvement is the horizontally aligned front camera, which provides a more natural angle for video calls, making virtual meetings feel more engaging and less awkward. This new camera position also signals that the iPad is inching closer to laptop status, enhancing its appeal as a versatile productivity tool.

presentation software ipad pro

The term “laptop” denotes functionality and comfort when used on your lap. The iPad Pro M4, especially when paired with the Magic Keyboard, embodies this ideal better than any tablet. Its sleek design, powerful performance, and practical accessories rival traditional laptops, ensuring comfort and functionality when used on your lap.

presentation software ipad pro

The Magic Keyboard provides a comfortable typing experience with well-spaced keys and responsive feedback. Its cantilever design, pushing the iPad further back like a MacBook’s display, is especially beneficial when used while lying down. This design offers adjustable viewing angles, allowing you to find the perfect position for any task. Whether typing an email, editing a document, or drawing with the Apple Pencil, the iPad adapts seamlessly to your needs.

presentation software ipad pro

The Apple Pencil Pro also deserves mention for its ergonomic design. The lightweight stylus mimics the sensation of writing on paper, with added haptic feedback and barrel roll gestures for enhanced precision and control. Whether sketching, annotating, or taking notes, the Apple Pencil Pro provides a comfortable and intuitive user experience.

presentation software ipad pro

Using the iPad Pro M4 with the Magic Keyboard feels empowering, enhancing productivity, creativity, entertainment, and learning, no matter where you are. Apple’s attention to ergonomics ensures every interaction with the device is intuitive and comfortable. The thin and lightweight design makes it easy to carry, whether commuting, traveling, or moving between rooms, fitting comfortably in a bag or backpack. The iPad seamlessly supports daily activities, enriching digital experiences, whether working, creating, or browsing. After all, that’s the whole point of investing in tech—not just for the sake of buying a shiny new toy, but to add real value and enhance everyday productivity.

Performance

The iPad Pro M4 has a powerful M4 chip designed to handle everything Apple and third-party apps can throw at it. Whether editing 4K videos, playing graphics-intensive games, or multitasking, the M4 chip ensures smooth and efficient performance. The new chip delivers a 50% performance boost over its predecessor, making it one of the fastest tablets on the market.

presentation software ipad pro

Benchmarks like those from Geekbench 6 highlight the iPad Pro M4’s significant performance capabilities. For instance, the iPad Pro M4 (iPad16,6) scores an impressive 13670 in multi-core performance and 3684 in single-core performance, compared to 13159 and 3632, respectively, for the iPad16,4 base model. These results underscore the enhanced performance of the additional cores and more RAM in the iPad Pro M4.

presentation software ipad pro

However, synthetic benchmarks are just one way to validate the M4 chip’s capabilities. The true power of the iPad Pro M4 lies in Apple’s seamless integration of hardware and software. Unlike competitors who rely on third parties like Qualcomm for chipsets, various manufacturers for hardware, and Google or Microsoft for the operating system, Apple controls the entire ecosystem. This unified approach allows for optimized performance and a cohesive user experience greater than the sum of its parts.

presentation software ipad pro

Apple M4 and Snapdragon X Elite

One of the standout features of the M4 chip is its enhanced Neural Engine, capable of performing 38 trillion operations per second. This opens up new possibilities for AI-driven applications, from real-time language translation to advanced image processing. For instance, apps that utilize machine learning for tasks like photo editing, predictive text, and augmented reality run seamlessly on the iPad Pro M4, demonstrating the chip’s capability to manage complex algorithms efficiently.

presentation software ipad pro

The M4 chip’s efficiency also translates into impressive battery life. The iPad Pro M4 can last up to 14 hours under moderate use, such as browsing the web, streaming videos, and using productivity apps. This ensures users can work, play, and create without constantly searching for a power outlet. Even during more intensive tasks like video editing and gaming, the battery life holds up well, typically lasting around 10 hours.

One of the most striking features of the iPad Pro M4 is its Ultra Retina XDR display with tandem OLED technology. This display sets a new benchmark for tablet screens, offering unparalleled brightness, color accuracy, and contrast. Using tandem OLED panels increases luminance levels, resulting in deep blacks, vibrant colors, and exceptional clarity. The display transforms the visual experience, making everything from movies to professional-grade design work look stunning.

presentation software ipad pro

From personal experience, the display performs amazingly regardless of the environment. The screen remains vibrant and clear, whether outdoors in bright sunlight or indoors under office lights. Two types of displays are available: the standard display and the nano-texture glass option designed to reduce glare. Our review unit features a regular display, which, for most users, is more than enough to meet their needs.

In video editing tests using apps like LumaFusion and Adobe Premiere Rush, the iPad Pro M4 handles 4K footage effortlessly. Scrubbing through high-resolution video happens without lag, allowing for the application of complex edits and quick rendering of projects. This performance makes it an excellent tool for content creators needing a portable yet powerful device for on-the-go editing.

Gaming performance on the iPad Pro M4 is equally impressive. Popular titles like Genshin Impact and Call of Duty: Mobile run smoothly with high frame rates and detailed graphics, providing a console-like experience on a tablet. The high-refresh-rate display enhances the gaming experience by reducing motion blur and providing a more responsive feel.

We anticipate further enhancements with the upcoming WWDC, where Apple is expected to announce upgrades to iPadOS. We hope these updates will bring many features from macOS to the iPad while retaining its lightweight footprint. Such improvements would further unlock the potential of the M4 chip, making the iPad Pro M4 even more capable. The chip’s current performance already sets a high standard, and with the expected software enhancements, the iPad Pro M4 is poised to become an even more integrated and versatile tool.

In every aspect, from gaming to professional-grade video editing, the iPad Pro M4 redefines what a tablet can achieve, making it a powerful, versatile, and future-ready device.

Sustainability

Apple continues to lead in sustainability with the iPad Pro M4, using 100% recycled aluminum for the enclosure. This commitment to eco-friendly materials doesn’t compromise the device’s durability or aesthetic appeal. Using recycled aluminum reduces the environmental impact of production and aligns with Apple’s broader goals of reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainability.

presentation software ipad pro

The energy-efficient M4 chip also contributes to reduced power consumption, extending battery life and minimizing environmental impact. The chip’s efficiency ensures that the iPad Pro M4 delivers top-tier performance while consuming less power, which benefits both users and the planet. By incorporating sustainable practices into the design and production of the iPad Pro M4, Apple sets a high standard for the tech industry, demonstrating that cutting-edge technology and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.

Apple’s approach to packaging also reflects its commitment to sustainability. The packaging for the iPad Pro M4 is made from recycled and biodegradable materials, reducing waste and promoting recycling. The minimalist design of the packaging also reduces the overall environmental impact, as less material is used in its production.

presentation software ipad pro

In addition to using recycled materials and energy-efficient components, Apple also supports recycling old devices. Through its trade-in program, users can return their old iPads and other Apple products, which are then refurbished or recycled. This program helps to reduce electronic waste and ensures that valuable materials are recovered and reused.

Apple’s commitment to sustainability with the iPad Pro M4 sets a benchmark for the industry. Using recycled materials, energy-efficient components, and eco-friendly packaging contributes to a more sustainable product. By prioritizing sustainability without compromising performance or aesthetics, Apple shows that it is possible to create high-quality, cutting-edge technology while being mindful of the environment.

Value and Verdict

The iPad Pro M4 is undeniably a premium device, and its price reflects this. Starting at $1,299 for the 11-inch model and $1,499 for the 13-inch model, it’s a significant investment. Adding essential accessories like the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil Pro can quickly bring the total cost to the level of a high-end laptop. However, for creative professionals and tech enthusiasts who can fully leverage its capabilities, the iPad Pro M4 offers tremendous value. Its performance, display quality, and versatility justify the high price for those who demand the best.

For everyday users, it might be overkill. The advanced features and high performance may not be necessary for tasks like web browsing, email, and casual media consumption. More affordable options like the iPad Air offer excellent performance and functionality at a fraction of the cost. If top-tier features aren’t a priority, these alternatives are worth considering.

The iPad Pro M4 is a versatile tool for a wide range of tasks. For creative professionals, the combination of the M4 chip’s power, the precision of the Apple Pencil Pro, and the clarity of the Ultra Retina XDR display makes it invaluable for photo editing, graphic design, and video production. Its performance and versatility can significantly enhance productivity and creativity.

For business users, the iPad’s portability, battery life, and connectivity options make it an excellent tool for remote work, presentations, and note-taking. The Magic Keyboard transforms the iPad into a functional laptop alternative, while the Apple Pencil Pro offers a natural and efficient way to annotate documents and take notes.

Since using the iPad Pro M4 and the new Magic Keyboard, I’ve typed dozens of articles totaling more than 25,000 words. Unlike past models, this device has become my daily driver. My MacBook Pro M1 stays in the office, connected to four 5k monitors, while I work comfortably wherever I choose. It’s a great time to be a journalist, photographer, videographer, designer, or whatever role you embrace. The new iPad Pro M4 handles any task with ease.

The value of the iPad Pro M4 depends on your specific needs and how you plan to use the device. This is a dream device for those who can take full advantage of its capabilities. It’s perfect for creative professionals, tech enthusiasts, and anyone who wants the best in mobile technology. For others, more affordable models might offer better value without compromising too much on performance.

presentation software ipad pro

The iPad Pro M4 is a modern tech marvel, combining excellent hardware and stunning design. Its sleek, lightweight build, striking display, and robust performance make it top-tier among tablets. Enhanced accessories and connectivity options further add to its versatility, making it useful for a broad range of users. However, a common perception is that iPadOS is too restrictive, which prevents the iPad Pro M4 from being fully acknowledged as a viable laptop substitute. While I don’t entirely agree with this, I would appreciate the customization offered by macOS, such as the ability to run at native resolution and full control over the desktop view, among other things.

Ultimately, the iPad Pro M4 is a glimpse into the future of personal technology. It’s a device that meets today’s needs while anticipating tomorrow’s possibilities. Whether working, creating, or enjoying your favorite content, the iPad Pro M4 will take you there.

Improving iPadOS != making it macOS: iPad Pro Top Features

Avatar for Jeff Benjamin

I’ve been using the new M4 iPad Pro for the last week exclusively, resisting any urge to use my MacBook Pro as a crutch. Needless to say, it’s been an enlightening, interesting, and dare I say, a fun experience on a lot of fronts. My biggest takeaway? The iPad has flaws, but iPadOS does not need to be macOS to make it a good computer.

There is a large contingent of iPad users who are using computers today only because of iPadOS and how accessible it is to them. The iPad has arguably made computers more accessible to users who were once downright afraid of computers. For that reason alone, we should put some respect on the iPad’s name .

Before the latest batch of iPad Pro reviews came out, I predicted what the running story would be, and I’m not even very good at making predictions. We’ve seen the same story time and time again over the years. Yes, the hardware is great…but the software falls short. Oh, and by the way, I’m guilty of it as well.

Open > iPad Pro (2018) review.docx …  Copy > Paste > iPad Pro (2018) review copy.docx …. Rename > iPad Pro (2024) review.docx — Jeff Benjamin (@JeffBenjam) May 13, 2024

For years, the iPad Pro has sported hardware under the hood that’s more than capable for getting things done. For some users, it has been iPadOS’ shortcomings and idiosyncrasies that have make it challenging to get the most out of its power.

However, that does not mean that the iPad needs to run macOS to reach its full potential. It just needs to be the very best version of iPadOS .

2024 13-inch iPad Pro on table

What does the best version of iPadOS look like?

I don’t think it looks like Apple copied and pasted macOS onto the iPad. I think it still looks very much like iPadOS appears today, just with the type of refinements and creature comforts that more advanced users expect. It also needs app developers to treat the platform like a first-class citizen.

There are many areas where I think iPadOS can improve, but there are three main areas that I think are among the most important.

1. iPadOS apps and the need for a common thread

iPadOS apps almost feel like their own little mini operating systems running on the iPad. That’s because every app has its own unique method for interacting with it, accessing needed tools, etc. It’s missing the common thread that binds all apps together to make it a cohesive experience.

Multitasking with 13-inch iPad Pro

On the Mac, that common thread is the menu bar. It’s the place where, no matter the app, you can go there to do the thing…whatever that thing happens to be.

One could argue that the current methodology for viewing keyboard shortcuts – holding the Command (⌘) key – is basically iPadOS’ version of the menu bar. The problem with the keyboard shortcuts menu is that it relies on a connected keyboard, is slow to invoke, and it takes up too much space, I think a more thought out redesign that serves both touch and keyboard users is needed.

2. Keyboard Shortcuts, but taken seriously

This is both an iPadOS problem, and an individual app problem. As fun and handy as touch interfaces can be, they aren’t always appropriate for certain tasks. Power users rely on keyboard shortcuts to get things done more efficiently.

Of course, iPadOS has keyboard shortcuts, but they need to be taken more seriously by app developers, including Apple. If it exists as a function, it should, in most cases, have a corresponding keyboard shortcut.

I encountered one of the most egregious examples of this problem while editing the entire video embedded above on my iPad using Final Cut Pro. Apple’s pro NLE is an amazing experience in a lot of ways, especially for its touch-first interface. I think this app has a ton of potential, and I’m excited for Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 , which should ship within the next month.

presentation software ipad pro

That being said, there are missing features that video editors need that just aren’t there yet, and that’s understandable given the app’s short time in existence. What isn’t as understandable is the lack of keyboard shortcuts for certain commands that do currently exist, such as copying and pasting effects between clips. Because there were no keyboard shortcuts for these commands, I had to undergo the time-consuming process of manually copying and pasting effects between the one hundred or so clips in my timeline so that they would all match.

Apple should also implement a way to allow users create their own keyboard shortcuts. Such a feature already somewhat exists as an accessibility setting in Settings > Accessibility > Keyboards > Full Keyboard Access, but it’s only for customizing the keyboard shortcuts used to navigate iPadOS, not for individual apps.

Full Keyboard Access command list iPad Pro

3. File management for tots

The Files app is a huge improvement over its first iteration back when it was called iCloud Drive. I appreciate how we now have more detailed file information, how we can compress and decompress files, etc., but there needs to be more flexibility for users to manage files.

Quick Look on iPad Pro that doesn’t show a video preview

One of the many frustrating things I encountered was the inability to preview a video shot with my Sony FX30 via Quick Look. Opening the file with Quick Look produced a blank screen prompting me to open the file in another app.

There are many little issues like this that, by themselves, aren’t a big deal. But when you start adding up all of the smaller shortcomings of file management in iPadOS, it stands out.

iPadOS doesn’t need to be “fixed”

I’ve compared the difference between using macOS and iPadOS to get the same task done like the difference between running on land, and running while submerged in water. Eventually, you’ll both make it to the destination, but who will finish first? Better yet, who will feel better after the run? Apple has drained a lot of the water that has bogged down the iPad experience, but more needs to be done.

As a programmer who previously used an iPad Pro, it's more than a headache. It's literally impossible to do any sort of programming on the iPad. You can't install the languages or tools you need, you can't run stuff, the code editors available aren't that great and often don't support the languages you use and definitely don't support extensions to enable them.

I'm lucky to now have a macbook to use for these tools. And, to be honest, I almost never use my iPad anymore. Between a Mac and iPhone, the iPad has almost no place except as a thousand dollar piece of paper to draw on with a hundred dollar pencil.

iPadOS is a highly capable platform, with its own unique paradigms. Some of its shortcomings might be viewed as strengths depending on how the light is hitting the prism so to speak. Shortcomings can also spur innovation when engineers are forced to approach a problem in a different way.

presentation software ipad pro

iPadOS doesn’t need to be fixed, because that implies that iPadOS is broken. iPadOS needs to be improved and optimized. Improving the platform isn’t just about copying and pasting macOS onto the iPad. Improving iPadOS involves Apple paying close attention to the most basic user experience and interface shortcomings, while also continuing to build it out with new and unique features year after year. Apple hasn’t been perfect on this thus far, but we must recognize how far the iPad has come in a relatively short time.

9to5Mac’s Take

Although Apple probably should have read the room before it published the controversial ad where it crushed all of the beloved physical relics of creativity into a thin and light iPad Pro, I got where it was going with it. This machine can wear an infinite amount of hats, and it’s arguably the most versatile piece of consumer electronics that’s ever been created.

The software that powers it, iPadOS, is fine. Swaths of users will second that thought. We just have to be patient, let iPadOS be iPadOS, and allow the platform to keep maturing.

Apple Tablets

Introduction

The new iPad Pro models represent a solid advancement for the lineup. The iPads finally switched to 120Hz OLED screens, and they also got the latest Apple M4 chip and support for a new Pencil Pro. And for the first time, you can also opt for a special type of display coating called Nano-Texture Glass, which significantly reduces glare and helps keep colors consistent in challenging lighting conditions.

Other than that, the fifth generation iPad Pro is available in 11" and 13" versions, as usual. You can choose between Wi-Fi and Cellular (5G) models and four storage tiers. We are reviewing the most affordable spec of the 11-inch model here: the Wi-Fi-only 256GB model. However, we were also able to benchmark the performance of the 10-core 2TB model for reference.

One of the most important changes in the new iPad Pro models is the Ultra Retina Tandem OLED panel, a massive upgrade over the mini-LED on the iPad Pro (2022). The screen supports ProMotion (dynamic 120Hz refresh rate), HDR10, Dolby Vision, wide color gamut, and up to 1,600nits of peak HDR brightness.

And there is still no cutout for the FaceID hardware on the iPad screens, so that's good.

The second major update is the Apple M4 chip. It's not that the Apple M2 was a slouch, but the M4 sounds super promising in terms of both performance and battery life. We will put it to the test later.

The iPad Pro is available with 8GB of RAM or 16GB of RAM depending on the storage options (256GB/512GB or 1TB/2TB). There is a 12MP rear camera with a LiDAR system on the back and a 12MP ultrawide front camera with FaceID kit next to it.

Apple iPad Pro 11 (2024) review

The iPad Pro comes with a total of our speakers. It has a USB-C 4 port (Thunderbolt 3) with support for DisplayPort. There is also a magnetic connector for the optional Apple Pencil.

The tablet runs on the iPadOS 17.5.

Apple iPad Pro 11 (2024) specs at a glance:

  • Body: 249.7x177.5x5.3mm, 466g; Glass front, aluminum back, aluminum frame; Stylus support, bluetooth integration, magnetic (Apple Pencil Pro, Apple Pencil 2).
  • Display: 11.00" Ultra Retina Tandem OLED, 120Hz, HDR10, Dolby Vision, 1000 nits (HBM), 1600 nits (peak), 1668x2420px resolution, 13.06:9 aspect ratio, 264ppi; Antireflective coating, Nano-texture display glass option on 1TB and 2TB models.
  • Chipset: Apple M4: 9-core 4.4 GHz (3 performance cores, 6 efficiency cores) - 256/512GB models, 10-core 4.4 GHz (4 performance cores, 6 efficiency cores) - 1/2TB models; Apple GPU (10-core graphics).
  • Memory: 256GB 8GB RAM, 512GB 8GB RAM, 1TB 16GB RAM, 2TB 16GB RAM.
  • OS/Software: iPadOS 17.5.
  • Rear camera: Wide (main) : 12 MP, f/1.8, dual pixel PDAF; Depth : TOF 3D LiDAR scanner.
  • Front camera: 12 MP, f/2.4, 122˚ (ultrawide).
  • Video capture: Rear camera : 4K@24/25/30/60fps, 1080p@25/30/60/120/240fps; gyro-EIS, ProRes (4K, 1080p), Cinematic mode (4K, 1080p); Front camera : 1080p@25/30/60fps, gyro-EIS, HDR.
  • Battery: 8,160 mAh; 30W USB-PD fast charging.
  • Connectivity: 5G; eSIM; Wi-Fi 6e; BT 5.3, EDR.
  • Misc: Face ID, accelerometer, gyro, compass, barometer; stereo speakers (4 speakers).

The iPad Pro seems like a proper upgrade, and even overqualified for its size and type of device, if you will. We are quite eager to meet this iPad already, so let's pop it out of the box, shall we?

Review: Two Weeks With the M4 iPad Pro

It's been just over two weeks since the M4 iPad Pro launched, which means it's time for a longer term review of the updated OLED display, AI-focused processor, super thin design, and new accessories that include the Apple Pencil Pro and Magic Keyboard.

Apple moved the front camera to the landscape side of the ‌iPad Pro‌, and it's a small but notable change. If you use your ‌iPad‌ with a keyboard in landscape orientation but have had to awkwardly turn it to portrait mode for a FaceTime call, this is a tweak you'll appreciate. It's much more natural than treating the ‌iPad‌ like a giant iPhone .

The ‌iPad Pro‌'s OLED display has no competition. It is by far the best display that Apple has introduced in an ‌iPad‌, and you won't find a better tablet display available from competing products, either. Apple used tandem OLED technology (basically stacking two OLED displays on top of each other), and the brightness and contrast are unparalleled. Movies look amazing, the ‌iPad‌ does well in bright lighting, and the HDR makes images pop.

Compared to the prior-generation ‌iPad Pro‌ with mini-LED display, the OLED display is better, but not so much so that it's worth upgrading for that alone. Coming from an LCD, though, the difference is much more notable.

The last ‌iPad Pro‌ with an M2 chip is incredibly fast, and the M4 is even quicker, based on benchmarks. You're not going to find much that's going to max out the M4 processor in day to day usage, but you'll see bigger numbers on benchmarking tests comparing the M4 ‌iPad Pro‌ to the ‌M2‌ ‌iPad Pro‌. Editing videos and creating songs in Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro is super fast with the M4, but it was also super fast with the ‌M2‌. Maybe the M4 chip will shine when iPadOS 18 is updated with a slew of new AI features, but for now, it's overkill.

Apple nixed both the Ultra Wide camera and mmWave 5G in this version of the ‌iPad Pro‌, and most people probably won't miss these features. Whether a 13-inch tablet needs any kind of rear camera is up in the air, and mmWave 5G speeds are still fairly limited in availability. Sub 6GHz 5G remains, and that's plenty fast enough for downloads, watching streaming content, and playing games.

As for accessories, the ‌Apple Pencil‌ Pro is basically the same as the ‌Apple Pencil‌ 2 but with a couple new tricks. You can squeeze to bring up menus so you don't need to go hunting for settings to do things like change line thickness or color, and there's a barrel roll feature that basically does things like vary line thickness when tilting the ‌Apple Pencil‌ so it behaves more like a real writing or drawing tool. Find My might be the most useful addition so you can track down the ‌Apple Pencil‌ if it goes missing, and Haptic Feedback is also nice to have.

The Magic Keyboard is way more Mac like thanks to that larger glass trackpad and the aluminum palm rest. The trackpad is more pleasant to use than before, and the function keys are also a big plus for controlling media, changing screen brightness, and more without having to dig into the Settings app or Control Center.

Unsurprisingly, the ‌iPad Pro‌ is without a doubt Apple's best ‌iPad‌, and it's probably the best tablet on the market. The major downside is the price, with the 11-inch model starting at $999 and the 13-inch model starting at $1299. Those are Mac prices, and while the ‌iPad‌'s hardware is worth it, it's a lot to pay for the limitations that you're stuck with when using iPadOS. There are workflows out there that work with a tablet, but many people aren't going to be able to replace a Mac with an ‌iPad‌.

You also have to shell out for the 1TB+ ‌iPad Pro‌ if you want maximum performance, as the 1TB and 2TB models have an extra CPU core (10 cores vs. 9 cores) and 16GB RAM instead of 8GB.

  • Stage Manager is an entirely new multitasking experience that automatically organizes apps and windows, making it quick and easy to switch between tasks. • Reference Mode enables the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with Liquid Retina XDR display to match the color requirements in workflows like review and approve, color grading, and compositing, where accurate colors and consistent image quality are critical. That means pro users, including photographers and videographers, can edit HDR images and videos with every true-to-life detail right in their hands, and cinematographers on set can preview content in a color profile that represents the final capture.

PRESS RELEASE

The new iPad Pro features a next-level Apple Pencil hover experience, ProRes video capture, superfast Wi-Fi 6E, and powerful features in iPadOS 16

CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA Apple today announced the new iPad Pro with the M2 chip, delivering the ultimate combination of portability, versatility, and unbelievable performance. The new iPad Pro features a next-level Apple Pencil hover experience and superfast wireless connectivity, along with the world’s most advanced mobile display, pro cameras, Face ID, Thunderbolt, and a four-speaker audio system. New features in iPadOS 16 — including Stage Manager, full external display support, 1 desktop-class apps, and Reference Mode — take pro workflows on iPad even further. Enabled by its advanced hardware and iPadOS 16, iPad Pro has an incredible ecosystem of powerful pro apps unlike any other device of its kind. The new iPad Pro is available to order starting today, and in stores beginning Wednesday, October 26.

“The next-generation iPad Pro pushes the boundaries of what’s possible on iPad, bringing even more versatility, power, and portability to the ultimate iPad experience,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Powered by the M2 chip, the new iPad Pro features incredible performance and the most advanced technologies, including a next-level Apple Pencil hover experience, ProRes video capture, superfast wireless connectivity, and powerful iPadOS 16 features. There’s nothing else like it.”

M2, the start of Apple’s next generation of M-series chips, brings even more breakthrough performance and capabilities to iPad Pro, with industry-leading power efficiency, a unified memory architecture, and custom technologies.

M2 features an 8-core CPU — up to 15 percent faster than M1 — with advancements in both performance and efficiency cores, and a 10-core GPU, delivering up to 35 percent faster graphics performance for the most demanding users. Combined with the CPU and GPU, the 16-core Neural Engine can process 15.8 trillion operations per second — 40 percent more than M1 — making iPad Pro even more powerful when handling machine learning tasks. The M2 chip also features 100GB/s of unified memory bandwidth — 50 percent more than M1 — and supports up to 16GB of fast unified memory, making multitasking and working with large assets even more fluid. 2

The performance of M2 turbocharges even the most demanding workflows, from photographers editing massive photo libraries and designers manipulating complex 3D objects, to healthcare professionals taking advanced imaging and analysis, to gamers enjoying graphics-intensive games. The power of M2 also extends to the new media engine and the image signal processor, which combined with the advanced cameras, enable users to capture ProRes video for the first time and transcode ProRes footage up to 3x faster. This means content creators can capture, edit, and publish cinema-grade video from a single device out in the field.

Powered by the new iPad Pro and iPadOS 16, hover with Apple Pencil (2nd generation) provides a completely new dimension for users to interact with their screen. Apple Pencil is now detected up to 12 mm above the display, allowing users to see a preview of their mark before they make it. This also allows users to sketch and illustrate with even greater precision, and makes everything users do with Apple Pencil even more effortless. For example, with Scribble, text fields automatically expand when the pencil gets near the screen, and handwriting converts to text even faster. Third-party apps can also take advantage of this new feature to enable entirely new marking and drawing experiences.

The new iPad Pro supports the fastest Wi-Fi connections with support for Wi-Fi 6E, 3 so users who need fast connections can take their demanding workflows with them everywhere. Downloads are up to 2.4Gb/s, 2x faster than the previous generation. Wi-Fi + Cellular models with 5G (sub-6GHz and mmWave 4 ) now support more 5G networks around the world, so users can access their files, communicate with colleagues, and back up their data in a snap while on the go. 5

In addition to big updates to Messages, new tools in Mail and Safari, the new Weather app, and more ways to interact with photos and video with Live Text and Visual Look Up, iPadOS 16 also introduces powerful productivity features that elevate the iPad Pro experience:

The new iPad models are designed to minimize their impact on the environment and include 100 percent recycled gold — a first for iPad — in the plating of multiple printed circuit boards, as well as recycled aluminum, tin, and rare earth elements. All iPad models meet Apple’s high standards for energy efficiency and are mercury-, BFR-, PVC-, and beryllium-free. Redesigned packaging in the new iPad Pro eliminates the outer plastic wrap, and 99 percent of the packaging is fiber based, bringing Apple closer to its goal of completely removing plastic from all packaging by 2025.

Today, Apple is carbon neutral for global corporate operations, and by 2030, plans to be 100 percent carbon neutral across the entire manufacturing supply chain and all product life cycles. This means that every Apple device sold, from component manufacturing, assembly, transport, customer use, charging, all the way through recycling and material recovery, will have net-zero climate impact.

Pricing and Availability

  • Full external display support for Stage Manager on M1 and M2 iPad models will be available in a software update later this year.
  • Performance is compared with previous-generation iPad Pro.
  • Wi-Fi 6E is not available in China mainland and Japan.
  • mmWave is only available in the US and Puerto Rico.
  • 5G wireless plan and coverage required. Speeds will vary. Check with carriers for details.

I Hope These 2 iPad Pro Features Make It to the iPhone

Commentary: A thinner design and better camera for scanning documents could really come in handy on the iPhone.

presentation software ipad pro

Some of the 2024 iPad Pro's new features would be a great fit for the iPhone, especially the Pro Max model.

With its powerful M4 processor and compatibility with new accessories like the Apple Pencil Pro , Apple is hoping its new pair of iPad Pros will be compelling enough to lure you away from your PC or Chromebook. But some of the iPad Pro's new features would feel right at home on the iPhone, specifically future iPhone Pro or Pro Max models.

The 2024 iPad Pro's exceptionally thin design and upgraded document scanning capabilities feel like a perfect match for the iPhone. While it's true that the iPad Pro is being positioned as a portable and powerful work device, our smartphones are with us all the time -- making lightweight designs and the ability to capture receipts and other important documents on the go feel all the more important.

There's a precedent for new features arriving on the iPad Pro before trickling down to the iPhone. The 2020 iPad Pro gained a LiDAR scanner in March 2020 before that technology arrived on the iPhone 12 Pro later that year. Back in 2016, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro was the first to get Apple's True Tone display for improving white balance, which made its way to the iPhone 8 lineup and iPhone X the following year. Apple's ProMotion tech that dynamically adjusts the screen's refresh rate for smoother scrolling is another example of a display improvement that debuted on the iPad Pro in 2017 before landing on the iPhone 13 Pro in 2021.

Apple should continue that tradition by bringing newer iPad Pro features to the iPhone as well.

Why these features belong on future iPhones

iPad Pro on a table

The new iPad Pro is Apple's thinnest yet.

The new iPad Pro is Apple's thinnest product ever, according to the company. With the 13-inch model measuring just 5.1 millimeters in thickness, it's slimmer than the 8.25mm iPhone 15 Pro and the even sleeker 7.3mm iPhone SE by a large margin.

There's a case to be made that thinness matters more in the iPad Pro since it reduces the system's overall bulk when paired with keyboards and covers. But given that we carry our phones everywhere and reach for them 144 times per day, according to Reviews.org , such a dramatic reduction in thickness would go a long way.

It could also make the larger iPhone 15 Pro Max feel less cumbersome, perhaps winning over shoppers that may have passed on it before because of its heft. At a time when just about every other smartphone maker is exploring foldable devices , a dramatically slimmer look could put Apple's iPhone design back in the spotlight.

The same could be said for the document scanner. Apple's new iPad Pro models use artificial intelligence to identify documents in the camera app and reduce shadows by snapping multiple photos at once and stitching the scan together. If you're anything like me, your phone is your primary tool for saving receipts during work trips and sharing photos of restaurant bills with friends when deciding how to split the cost.

While it may not be the most exciting camera upgrade, it's certainly a practical one. Data from business-to-business research firm Aberdeen Strategy & Research mentioned in a 2023 blog post indicates that 30% of employees have a smartphone just for work purposes, and 68% of employees use an iPhone, perhaps suggesting there may be more demand for an improved iPhone document scanner than expected.

Apple seems to know that people use their iPhones for digitizing and sharing documents, as evidenced by the addition of Live Text in 2021, which recognizes text in photos so that you can copy-and-paste handwritten notes and more. An improved document scanner like the one on the new iPad Pro would be a great companion to this capability.

Like the iPad Pro's aforementioned superthin design, the document scanner also seems like a strong fit for future iPhone Pro Max models in particular. Apple's larger size Pro iPhones are known for having the company's top-of-the-line cameras, so it would make sense to see it gain a photography-oriented tool like this. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max's cameras already have an adaptive True Tone camera flash like the new iPad Pros. So if Apple were to bring this upgraded document scanning to the iPhone Pro Max, perhaps it could do so through a software update.

Will these changes actually come to future iPhones?

wwdc-2024-logo

Apple's WWDC conference will give us a peak at what's next for the iPhone's software.

Apple never discusses new products and updates before it's ready to officially announce them, meaning we won't know what to expect from future iPhones until they arrive. But Apple is holding its Worldwide Developers Conference keynote on June 10, which is where the company announces new software features for its iPhone lineup.

Apple's next update, expected to be called iOS 18 , will bring a flurry of new AI-infused features to the iPhone, according to Bloomberg . There haven't been any mentions of the iPad Pro's document scanner coming to iOS 18 specifically. But the report does mention that Apple's update will focus on AI-driven features that are useful in everyday scenarios, and the iPad Pro's document scanner would seemingly fit that description.

We won't know what Apple has up its sleeve when it comes to new iPhone hardware until September, which is when the company traditionally introduces its new smartphones. There's some reason to believe Apple may indeed be working on a slimmer iPhone, although we may not see it until 2025. Analyst Jeff Pu has reported that Apple may have an iPhone 17 Slim in the works, according to 9to5Mac , and a report from The Information also indicates a thinner iPhone may arrive next year.

Apple's iPhone lineup has changed a lot over the years, particularly when it comes to the Pro and Pro Max models. Exploring a paper-thin design and improving the camera's functionality in practical ways could help Apple further distinguish its pro-level phones from the standard iPhone.
