అర్జున్ (వ‌సంత్ ర‌వి), రీతూ (స‌ర‌స్వ‌తి మీన‌న్‌) భార్య‌భ‌ర్త‌లు. మ‌రో ముగ్గురు స్నేహితులు వ‌రుణ్‌, రాహుల్ గ్రేసీల‌తో క‌లిసి ఓ యూట్యూబ్ ఛాన‌ల్ ర‌న్ చేస్తుంటారు. ద‌య్యాలున్నాయ‌ని ప్ర‌చారంలో ఉన్న బిల్డింగ్‌లు, ప్రాంతాల్లో వీడియోలు షూట్ చేస్తుంటారు. ఇండియాలో వారు చేసిన వీడియోలు స‌క్సెస్ కావ‌డంతో లండ‌న్‌లోని ఓ పురాత‌న భ‌వంతి మిస్ట‌రీని సాల్వ్ చేసే ప్రాజెక్ట్ వారికి వ‌స్తుంది.

ఆ బిల్డింగ్‌లో ఆర్తి రాజ‌గోపాల్ (విమ‌లా రామ‌న్‌) అనే ఆర్కిటెక్ట్‌తో పాటు మ‌రికొంత‌మంది అనుమానాస్ప‌ద స్థితిలో చ‌నిపోతారు. ఆర్తి రాజ‌గోపాల్ డెడ్‌బాడీ కూడా క‌నిపించ‌కుండా పోతుంది. ఆ బిల్డింగ్‌లోకి అడుగుపెట్ట‌డానికే చాలా మంది భ‌య‌ప‌డిపోతారు. వీడియో ప్రాజెక్ట్ కోసం ఆ పురాత‌న భ‌వంతిలోకి ఎంట‌రైన అర్జున్ తో పాట అత‌డి స్నేహితుల‌కు అనూహ్య ప‌రిణామాలు ఎదుర‌వుతాయి.

అశ్విన్స్ మూవీ కంప్లీట్‌గా రివ‌ర్స్ స్క్రీన్‌ప్లేలో సాగుతుంది. హీరో వైఫ్‌తో పాటు అత‌డి స్నేహితులు చ‌నిపోయిన త‌ర్వాతే అస‌లు క‌థ మొద‌ల‌వుతుంది. ఆ త‌ర్వాతే వారి ఫ్లాష్‌బ్యాక్ ఎపిసోడ్స్ చూపించి మ‌ళ్లీ ప్ర‌జెంట్‌లోకి తీసుకొస్తూ స్క్రీన్‌ప్లేతో మ్యాజిక్ చేశాడు డైరెక్ట‌ర్‌. అర్తి రాజ‌గోపాల్ ఎపిసోడ్‌తోపాటు బిల్డింగ్‌లో ఉన్న రాక్ష‌సుడిని ఎదురించే ప‌వ‌ర్ హీరోకు మాత్ర‌మే ఎలా వ‌చ్చింద‌నే లాజిక్‌గా కూడా క‌న్వీన్సింగ్‌రాసుకున్నాడు. కంప్లీట్‌గా ఒకే బిల్డింగ్‌లో చాలా వ‌ర‌కు ఈ మూవీ సాగుతుంది. సౌండ్ ఎఫెక్ట్స్‌తోనే చాలా సీన్స్‌లో భ‌య‌పెట్టాడు.

క‌న్ఫ్యూజ‌న్‌...

ఫ‌స్ట్ హాఫ్‌లో ఉన్న థ్రిల్ కాస్త సెకండాఫ్‌లో మిస్స‌యింది. క్లైమాక్స్ చాలా క‌న్ఫ్యూజ‌న్‌తో సినిమా(Asvins Movie Review) ఎండ్ అయిన ఫీలింగ్ క‌లుగుతుంది..సినిమా నిడివి త‌క్కువే అయినా రిపీటెడ్ సీన్స్ కార‌ణంగా సాగ‌దీసిన‌ట్లుగా అనిపిస్తుంది. అశ్వినీ దేవ‌త‌లు అనే పాయింట్ త‌ప్పితే మిగిలిన క‌థ మొత్తం రొటీన్‌గా సాగ‌డం కూడా మైన‌స్‌గా చెప్ప‌వ‌చ్చు.

ఎమోష‌న‌ల్ రోల్‌...

అర్జున్‌గా వ‌సంత్ ర‌వి యాక్టింగ్ బాగుంది. ఎమోష‌న‌ల్ రోల్‌లో చ‌క్క‌టి యాక్టింగ్‌తో ఆక‌ట్టుకున్నాడు. ఆర్తి రాజ‌గోపాల్‌గా సీనియ‌ర్ హీరోయిన్ విమ‌లారామ‌న్ ఓ కీల‌క పాత్ర‌లో క‌నిపించింది. హీరో వైఫ్‌గా స‌ర‌స్వ‌తి మీన‌న్‌తో పాటు మిగిలిన స్నేహితులు యాక్టింగ్ కూడా ఒకే.

Asvins Movie Review- హార‌ర్ ఫ్యాన్స్‌ కోసం...

అశ్విన్స్ హార‌ర్, మైథాల‌జీ మిక్స్ చేస్తూ తెర‌కెక్కించిన ఓ డిఫ‌రెంట్ మూవీ. హార‌ర్ మూవీ ల‌వ‌ర్స్‌ను డెఫినెట్‌గా అశ్విన్స్ ఆక‌ట్టుకుంటుంది.

'Asvins' movie review: An effective folklore-horror elevated by brilliant sound design

With Asvins, debut director Tarun Teja adds folklore and chimerical elements to the horror genre giving it a rewarding twist. The union of mythology and ghastliness in the film especially leaves our hearts rightfully thumping for most parts of the runtime. Asvins revolves around a motley group of YouTubers who visit London to shoot a black tourism video.

They enter a haunted house to make a documentary, but they become victims of a 1000-year-old curse revolving around the Hindu deities Asvini Kumars. The rest of the film explores how they break themselves free from the complicated curse.

Asvins is split into five different chapters, just like a horror novel. The prologue of the film tells the story of the curse and introduces us to the non-linear narrative. The cinematography and impeccable sound design puts us in the middle of all the action and giving us first-hand experience of the horror. The writing of Tarun Teja gets outstandingly elevated by Vijay Siddarth, whose background score and sound design are the soul of Asvins. The adrenaline rush in Asvins is majorly delivered by the sound, which hits us even before the eerie visuals.

A minor setback in the film would possibly be the story. Although there are multiple fables stitched into the film, the attempt to milk out the entire potential from folklore and mythology feels wanting. Perfect casting is one of the biggest plus points of Asvins. Vasanth Ravi’s previous films Taramani and Rocky, which featured him as an intense performer, seem to have prepped him for this rather demanding role. His countenance is perfectly apt for spectral and monstrous sequences.

His tall build, his excessively large, expressive eyes, and his blood-curdling screams perfectly complement the ominous world of Asvins. Vimala Raman, on the other hand, leaves a terrific mark with her brief yet significant portion.

Asvins in many ways is a psychological horror and the film also leaves an important message about the mind. In one of the last frames of the film, a character says, “Everyone is as strong as their strongest mind.” I saw that as a disclaimer by the makers declaring that their film isn’t for the faint-hearted, well, they clearly aren’t wrong!

"Asvins", while definitely with its shortcomings, felt pretty good to me.

The plot was quite ambitious, if more than a bit farfetched. Concept is also bold. A tough go at how it all fits together, I thought the structure and workings of the movie may warrant a rewatch.

I thought the acting was a bit inconsistent but with some well achieved moments.

The mythical story is interesting and cool but I'm not sure properly translated/executed. I had a bit of trouble both with the chapters (names) and some of the connections between the plot/story. Sound department was amazing, IMO. Very active, diverse, effective and even inspired, it was really a strength. Liked the overall shooting/cinematography. Plenty of angles…

Whoever sound engineered/edited this needs a raise and needs to be hired by prime movie makers and fix the Tamil film industry audio lip sync problem. As to this film technically amazing, good first half but the second half lost me. An underrated Tamil horror film that needs praise.

Technical elements can't save the film everytime, This film is an example for that. It had a brilliant start, jumpscares worked(some got me) but too many of them ruined the narrative. Cinematography looked excellent, Lighting and sound design were the best aspects but story was messy. I really liked the folk horror concept but the storytelling completely failed in making the viewer engaging and there were plotholes and doubts by the end. The performances too I really didn't like them. Ambitious attempt but just didn't work out for me

I have to say it surprised me. TERRIFIC sound design and wonderful camera work! 

I do feel like we missed out on quite a lot of things despite this being almost 2 hours? had a few issues with the flow of the story. jumpscares weren’t anything groundbreaking but they were good!

Asvins Movie Review: A mystery thrills with a unique presentation

Vasanth Ravi's Asvins has hit the screens today and it is a horror thriller. The film is directed by Tarun Teja and is set in London. The promos are cool but is the film that cool and spooky, read the review to know for yourself.

Arjun(Vasanth Ravi) is an upcoming vlogger who is on the rise. He and his team get a rare opportunity to go to London and film the whereabouts of a very old haunted house. The team heads to London and enters the haunted house. As soon as they do, weird things happen to them and one after the other, the team gets killed. What is happening in the house? Who is behind all this? and what role does Vimala Raman play in this film? That forms the rest of the story.

Performances

Vasanth Ravi plays the main lead and he is the show stopped in Asvins. He had a very complex role to play but the manner in which he dons the intense role is so good to see. Also, the manner in which the supporting cast portrayed their parts was endearing to see in such a tense scenario.

Technical Aspects

Asvins is one of the most advanced films in recent times. What draws your attention throughout the entire film is the solid sound design which makes you feel that one is stuck in the haunted house. The gritty visuals and scary scenes hold your attention right through the film. The dubbing, production design, and editing are slick. The manner in which the camera angles are used is so good to see in the film.

Asvins has amazing sound design, The film has been shot in such a way that every emotion that the characters go through is showcased in a solid manner. Vasanth Ravi plays the main lead and his role changes track in the second half. This aspect has been showcased in a wonderful manner by the actor. 

The entire film looks intriguing, to say the least, and one gets a feeling as to how the team comes out of the haunted place. The last half an hour of the film has been handled in a gritty manner by the director. 

The thrills showcased in the first half an hour are great and will keep you on the edge of your seats. The unique atmosphere created by director Tarun Teja keeps you thinking about what is going to happen next in the film. Vimala Raman's performance and the entire disclosure through an ancient story being connected is also well thought off. 

Tarun Teja showcased the film with a layered screenplay. The film has different themes but has the same scenes which go back and front and showcase the unique perspective of the main lead. This is a bit hard for a common man to understand. In a way, one can say that there was no need for the makers to confuse the audience that much. 

The film starts on a solid note and the thrills also engross you big time. But as the film moves into the second part, one gets a feeling that scenes are being repeated time and again. One finds it hard to understand what the main lead in going through in the first place. Asvins had a great story but is marred by a confusing screenplay. 

Vox Verdict

Asvins is a film that is not for all. The scenes and thrills are for those who like different thrillers and make you think hard about what is going to happen next. If you are one who likes watching something intelligent and your IQ being tested, Asvins is for you.

కథ (Asvins Movie Story) : అర్జున్ (వసంత్ రవి), రీతూ అలియాస్ రిత్విక (సారస్ మీనన్), వరుణ్ (మురళీధరన్ సుబ్రమణియన్), రాహుల్ (ఉదయ దీప్), గ్రేస్ (మలినా అతుల్) యూట్యూబర్స్! దెయ్యాలు ఉన్నాయని జనాలు వెళ్ళని ఇళ్ళల్లో వీడియోలు చేయడం వాళ్ళ వృత్తి. ఇండియాలో వాళ్ళు చేసిన వీడియోలు చూసి యూకేలో బ్లాక్ టూరిజం ప్రాజెక్ట్ ఒకటి వస్తుంది. లండన్ నగర శివార్లలో ఉన్న ఓ దెయ్యాల కోటలో ఏముందో రికార్డ్ చేయాలి. ఒక్కప్పుడు ఆ భారీ భవంతిలో ఆర్కియాలజిస్ట్ ఆర్తి రాజగోపాల్ (విమలా రామన్) నివాసం ఉండేవారు. సుమారు పదిహేను మంది శవాలుగా దొరికిన తర్వాత ఆ భవంతిలోకి జనాలు వెళ్ళడం మానేశారు. ఆర్తి రాజగోపాల్ శవం మాయం అవుతుంది. అందులోకి వెళ్లిన అర్జున్ అండ్ గ్యాంగ్ ప్రాణాలతో బయటకు వచ్చారా? లేదా? అనేది సినిమా చూసి తెలుసుకోవాలి.

విశ్లేషణ (Asvins Review ) : 'నిశ్శబ్దం ఎంత భయంకరంగా ఉంటుందో చూశావా!' - 'అతడు' సినిమాలో డైలాగ్! హారర్ సినిమా ప్రేమికులకు నిశ్శబ్దంలోని భయం ఎలా ఉంటుందో బాగా తెలుసు. నిజానికి నిశబ్దంలోనూ ఓ శబ్దం ఉంటుంది. ఒకవేళ శబ్దమే నిశ్శబ్దాన్ని ఆవహిస్తే? కంటికి కనిపించే దృశ్యానికి శబ్దం తోడుగా నిలిచి ప్రేక్షకుల మదిలోకి దూరి వెంటాడితే? వేటాడితే? అటువంటి థ్రిల్లింత కోసం థియేటర్లకు వెళ్ళే ప్రేక్షకులు ఎంతో మంది! అటువంటి వాళ్ళకు అమితంగా నచ్చే సినిమా 'అశ్విన్స్'. 

దెయ్యాల కోటలోకి ఐదుగురు వెళతారు. వాళ్ళను దెయ్యం ఎలా వెంటాడి, వేటాడి చంపింది? లేదంటే దెయ్యం నుంచి ఐదుగురూ తప్పించుకున్నారా? - క్లుప్తంగా చెప్పాలంటే 'అశ్విన్స్' కాన్సెప్ట్ ఇది. నిజం చెప్పాలంటే... ఇంటర్వెల్ వరకు కథ ముందుకు కదలదు. కానీ, ప్రతి అడుగులో ప్రేక్షకులకు థ్రిల్, హారర్ అనుభూతి ఇచ్చాడు దర్శకుడు తరుణ్ తేజ. వందల హారర్ థ్రిల్లర్స్ చూసిన ప్రేక్షకులకు షాట్స్, విజువల్స్ కొత్తగా అనిపించవు. రెగ్యులర్ హారర్ మూమెంట్స్ స్క్రీన్ మీద వస్తుంటాయి. అయినా సరే భయపడతారు. అంతలా మ్యూజిక్ డైరెక్టర్ విజయ్ సిద్ధార్థ్, సినిమాటోగ్రాఫర్ ఎడ్విన్ సాకేలతో తరుణ్ తేజ మేజిక్ చేశారు. విశ్రాంతికి వచ్చేసరికి ప్రేక్షకులకు టికెట్ రేటుకు సరిపడా థ్రిల్, భయాన్ని అందించేశారు. 

'అశ్విన్స్' థియేటర్లలో అడుగుపెట్టిన ప్రేక్షకులను భయపెట్టడంలో సంగీత దర్శకుడు విజయ్ సిద్ధార్థ్ ప్రధాన పాత్ర పోషించారు. ఆఫ్ స్క్రీన్ అసలైన హీరో ఆయనే. ఆ తర్వాత సినిమాటోగ్రాఫర్. విజువల్స్ ఎక్స్ట్రాడినరీ. సౌండ్ డిజైన్, ఎడిటింగ్ & లైటింగ్ కూడా సూపర్బ్! నిర్మాణ విలువలు బావున్నాయి.

కథ, దర్శకత్వం విషయానికి వస్తే... తరుణ్ తేజ చేసిన వర్క్, డిటైలింగ్ ప్రతి మాటలో, ప్రతి సన్నివేశంలో తెలుస్తూ ఉంటుంది. ఆయనలో చాలా విషయం ఉంది. రైటింగ్, విజువల్స్ పరంగా ఫస్ట్ ఫీచర్ ఫిలింను ఈ స్థాయిలో తీయడం అంటే మామూలు విషయం కాదు. హారర్ అండ్ మైథాలజీని మిక్స్ చేసిన తీరు బావుంది. హారర్ మాత్రమే చూసే ప్రేక్షకులకు రెగ్యులర్ భయం, రొటీన్ షాట్స్ మాత్రమే తెరపై కనపడతాయి. లోతుగా చూస్తే... తెరపై చూసేది నటీనటుల భ్రమా? లేదంటే నిజమా? అని క్లూస్ ఇస్తూ వెళ్లారు తరుణ్ తేజ. రియాలిటీ ఏది? ఇల్యూజన్ ఏది? అని పేక్షకులకు పజిల్ ఇచ్చారు. సబ్ కాన్షియస్ మెమరీలో అక్కడ గ్రీన్ లైట్ ఎందుకు వచ్చింది? మరో వైపు రెగ్యులర్ లైటింగ్ ఎందుకు ఉంది? అని ఆలోచన మెదులుతూ ఉంటుంది. ఆ సస్పెన్స్ మైంటైన్ చేయడంలో సక్సెస్ అయ్యాడు. భయపెట్టారు కూడా!

అయితే... కొన్ని విషయాలను రిపీట్ చేశారు. సినిమా స్టార్టింగ్ చెప్పిన కథను మళ్ళీ ఇంటర్వెల్ తర్వాత ఆర్తీ రాజగోపాల్ చేత చెప్పించడంతో ఎఫెక్ట్ మిస్ అయ్యింది. ఇంటర్వెల్ వరకు ఉన్నంత స్పీడ్ ఆ తర్వాత మిస్ అయ్యింది. అప్పటికే చాలా థ్రిల్ ఇచ్చాం కనుక చాలు అనుకున్నారేమో!? కథ మొదలైన తర్వాత హారర్, థ్రిల్ మూమెంట్స్ తగ్గాయి. మళ్ళీ క్లైమాక్స్ వచ్చేసరికి స్పీడ్ అందుకుంది. పతాక సన్నివేశాలు సీట్ ఎడ్జ్ థ్రిల్ ఇస్తాయి.

నటీనటులు ఎలా చేశారు? : సాధారణంగా హారర్ థ్రిల్లర్ సినిమాల్లో నటీనటులకు ప్రతిభ చూపే అవకాశం తక్కువ ఉంటుంది. 'అశ్విన్స్' ఫస్టాఫ్ వరకు ఆ మాటలో కొంత నిజం ఉందనిపిస్తుంది. కొన్ని సీన్లు మినహా ఆర్టిస్టులకు పెద్దగా నటించే ఛాన్స్ రాలేదు. ఇంటర్వెల్ తర్వాత విమలా రామన్ ఆ మాటను చెరిపేశారు. ఫ్లాష్ బ్యాక్ తర్వాత నుంచి వసంత్ రవి అయితే విజృంభించారు. ముఖ్యంగా పతాక సన్నివేశాల్లో నేపథ్య సంగీతానికి తోడు ఆయన నటన మరింత ఉత్కంఠ పెంచుతుంది. హీరో తప్ప మిగతా వాళ్ళ క్యారెక్టర్స్ అంత బలంగా లేవు. వాళ్ళ మధ్య బాండింగ్ చూపించే సన్నివేశాల్లో డెప్త్ మిస్ అయ్యింది.

చివరగా చెప్పేది ఏంటంటే? : థ్రిల్లర్స్, హారర్ చిత్రాల ప్రేమికులకు 'అశ్విన్స్' అమితంగా నచ్చుతుంది. ప్రేక్షకులను భయపెడుతుంది. మాంచి థ్రిల్ ఇస్తుంది. సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ, సౌండ్ డిజైన్, సంగీతం పరంగా ఉన్నత స్థాయిలో ఉంది. వసంత్ రవి నటన, విజయ్ సిద్ధార్థ్ సంగీతం కోసమైనా 'అశ్విన్స్'ను మిస్ కాకూడదు. ఈ ఏడాది వచ్చిన చక్కటి సైకలాజికల్ థ్రిల్లర్ సినిమాల్లో 'అశ్విన్స్' ఒకటిగా నిలుస్తుంది.

Asvins(2023 Movie) What's Behind

Telugu-Tamil bilingual entertainer Asvins is generating interest among movie lovers with an interesting teaser and trailer. The film is directed by Tarun Teja and stars Vasanth Ravi, and Vimala Raman in the lead roles. The film's OTT rights have been bagged by Netflix and streaming will be after the completion of its theatrical run. Let us see whether Asvins thrilled movie lovers or not.

Asvins Telugu Movie Story Review

Asvins' story is all about the experiences of young YouTubers who are on a Black Tourism project. Youtubers Arjun (Vasanth Ravi), Rithu aka Rithvika (Saras Menon), Varun (Muralidaran Subramanian), Rahul (Udhaya Deep) and Grace (Malina Atul) are popular for their spooky videos and as their popularity grows, they get an opportunity from UK for a Black Tourism project. They go to a lonely mansion to get going with their project. Where this leads to and who is Arthi Rajagopal (Vimala Raman) and what experiences they encounter form the crux of Asvins.

Asvins Movie Artists Review

Vasanth Ravi who played the lead role came up with good expressions and emotions at crucial moments. Vimala Raman played an important role and she did justice to her character. Others like Saras Menon,Muralidaran Subramanian, Udhaya Deep and Melina Atul got equal screen presence and they are ok with their performances.

Asvins Movie Technicians Review

Asvins story penned by Tarun Teja is based on the most popular and trending topic of black tourism across the world. He correlated it with the Hindu scriptures and wove a story connecting to Gods Asvini Twins. He stuck to the point right from the start in his narration and generated interest from the beginning. He created curiosity and increased it with dialogues that are impactful.

He narrated the first half in three Chapters, Two Deaths, Two Voices, and Two Souls. The interval twist ends the first half perfectly setting the tone for the second half. However, the second half which comprised of two chapters Mind of Two Worlds and World of Two Minds turned out to be routine. Though the story is predictable and routine after a point of time and interest levels dip with repetitive scenes, he maintained the curiosity intact with dialogues on two sacred idols, missing bodies, visiting of deaths and tragedies, two minds, two heads, seeing light in the darkness, intermediate stage after death from where persons try to communicate. All these dialogues are thought-provoking and give a unique feel.

Tarun Teja on debut emerged successful with his good screenplay and direction. Except for a few scenes and instances, he did a good job. However, he should have concentrated more on creating more spooky and fearful scenes rather than repeating the same spooky scenes most of the time.

AM Edvin Saakey used the camera angles to perfection. He used his skills to create the fear factor in the dark angles. The lighting effect is minimum and the dark shades are shown quite well in the film to create a maximum impact. Vijay Siddhath's background music turned out to be top-class. He elevated the scenes with his background score. The sound mixing and recording created a maximum impact. Dialogues are ok and production values are good.

Altogether Asvins is an average thriller. Tarun Teja tried his best to take viewers on a horror and scary ride on Black Tourism. However, more than the story, screenplay, and direction, he depended on creating fear with few spooky elements and repeating the same scary scenes. Had Tarun Teja turned out to be more creative and come up with a strong story, he could have made a stunning impact. Considering all these elements Cinejosh goes with a 2 Rating for Asvins.

the movie concept is excellent and technical cinematography is excellent, the focus is on creating jolt scares rather than story telling or plot building. A little more gripping search in the finale would have been nice. Having the team together through the plot would have given some better bounce dynamics, ended up being a mono acting psycho thriller in the end. <br/>Keep the audience thinking and guessing may have stretched a little beyond and into the realm of confusion to be later figured out. The narration to build up to climax ratio could have been better handled. <br/>Editing nightmare - Nightmare editing - technicians have done well<br/>Actors excelled with the help of strong director and visionary shot composition (shot composition is actually creepy) <br/>Story telling could have been made more obvious. Ending also wasn't clear as to what happened to the rest of the trapped people.

Story:  An Indian vlogger Arjun (Vasanth Ravi) is doing vlogs in London. One day he together with his staff go to a haunted home After going to that home, their staff realizes that some suspicious issues are occurring in that home. What’s so mysterious about that home? Who owns that home? What occurred there? What is the position of Aarti Rajagopal (Vimala Raman) on this film? If you wish to know whether or not they have come out of that home or not, it’s important to watch this film Asvins on silver display.

 Performance:  Vasanth Ravi, who appeared in the principle lead, gave a strong efficiency in his position. His position proceedings begin slowly however in direction of the climax it feels subsequent stage. Vimala Raman performed a superb position though the display area was rather less. The remaining casts additionally justify their roles.

 Technical:  Although the story of Asvins is nice, the narration is  obscure. With this, the movie doesn’t connect with all sections of the viewers directly. Also, there are fascinating scenes within the film however the narration continues to be uninteresting at many locations. VFX must be higher in some locations. Asvins review: The first half lets you down, but the second half works big time

Vimala Raman's brilliant performance and Vijay Siddharth’s excellent BGM manage to make an impact in Tarun Teja’s horror thriller.

Director Tarun Teja comes up with quite an impressive plot in his film Asvins and looks to narrate a horror story in a style that is significantly different from the usual pattern adopted by makers of such films.

While the makers seem to have made a considerable effort to serve something unique and interesting to fans of horror films, the fact remains that only one portion of Asvins works and the other fails miserably in their objective.

Before going into the details, here is the synopsis:

Ashvini Kumaras and Black Tourism

Asvins ‘ background is based on mythology. As the title suggests, it revolves around the Hindu Gods of Ashvini Kumaras, also known as Ashvins.

For those who do not know, Ashvini Kumaras are twin Gods who travel by a chariot and are known for their abilities to heal.

As the film begins, we are told that a farmer who lived years ago had two twins. However, the children die and the farmer prays to Ashvini Kumaras to revive them. Pleased with his penance, Ashvini Kumaras revive one of the twins and bring him back to life. They bless the boy and hand over two identical idols to him.

The gods tell the farmer that the idols, which appear like humans but with the heads of horses, are powerful and will ensure that the child will not die in any unnatural way as long as he has it with him.

Soon after their departure, an evil power that knows the significance of the horse idols looks to gain possession of one of them.

It appears to the boy as a human and promises to revive his twin brother if he gives it one of the idols. The young kid, who longs for his twin brother, agrees and hands over one of the idols to the dark power.

With this background information offered, the story shifts to the present day where five YouTubers leave for a mansion on an island in the UK to make a documentary to promote Black Tourism.

Black Tourism is tourists expressing a desire to travel to places historically associated with death and tragedy.

The mansion that they are to document is uninhabited after the death of an archaeologist called Aarthi. What the YouTubers find there is what Asvins is all about.

A story of two halves.

Director Tarun Teja’s Asvins can be described as a film of two halves. While the first half lets down audiences, the second half works big time.

Although the first half begins on a strong note, the plot soon loses steam and evokes boredom. This is because of two factors.

One, the visuals, for the most part, are presented to the viewer from the point of view of the character in the scene. Although interesting at first, this form of presentation turns monotonous after a point and induces an element of boredom.

The second factor that makes you lose interest is the predictable developments.

However, the story picks up pace again in the second half as the pieces begin to fall into place. The makers have something refreshingly new to offer in the second half and look to make up for the lapses in the first half.

Brilliant performances.

Vasanth Ravi, who plays the central character of Arjun, delivers quite a nice performance. There are quite a few shades of grey that he has to portray in the film and he does it with practised ease.

But the performance of actress Vimala Raman, who appears for a brief time in the film, actually takes your breath away.

Coming up with a brilliant performance, she lives her part and puts the element of fear back in your heart. One reason why the second half works better than the first is because of Vimala Raman’s performance.

Another actor who delivers a commendable performance in Asvins is actor Udhayadeep, who plays one of the five YouTubers named Rahul.

Technically, the film is brilliant on almost all counts. Be it the location, the sound, or the visuals, the director couldn’t have asked for more.

The background score of Vijay Siddharth, in particular, is exceptional. Tunes befitting the scene and the mood seem to have been used judiciously and that is one of the reasons why the film manages to make an impact.

The music director must share credit with his sound designers Sachin and Hari for their outstanding work in the film.

In all, Asvins is a reasonably well-made engaging horror thriller that works, if you have the patience to sit through right till the end.

Thrills only in parts

Asvins is a passable psychological horror thriller that thrills only in parts. Vasanth Ravi�s performance, the effective sound design, and a few visuals are the strengths of this movie. However, the complex plot and some unnecessary scenes are the drawbacks. If you are a hardcore fan of horror thrillers, give it a watch this weekend but keep your expectations low. (more)

Vasanth Ravi's horror film has a half-decent story with impressive scares

After Iruttu, Vimala Raman once again scores in the horror genre despite her limited screen time. After a while, the film completely relies on Vasanth�s character and the actor pulls it off well. As was the case with Tarun Teja�s short film that Asvins is based on, sound designer Vijay Siddharth has done exceptionally in setting up the mood of the film. Despite a story that could�ve been more detailed and fleshed out, Asvins is a technically strong psychological horror film that does justice to its genre and that�s a win in the books of horror lovers. Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur starrer The Family Star hit screens today amidst huge expectations. Delve into our review to know how it is.

Govardhan (Vijay Deverakonda) is an architect from a modest background, dedicated to supporting his brothers and their families. The arrival of Indu (Mrunal Thakur), a student, as a tenant in his home marks a significant turning point in his life. However, when everything seems to be going smoothly, Govardhan is confronted with a shocking revelation from Indu. Who is she, and what is her connection to his life? The answers to these questions unfold as the story progresses, which needs to be experienced on the big screen.

Plus Points:

Vijay Deverakonda entertains as a middle-class man, embodying the thoughts and behaviours typical of that societal stratum. His performance in family scenes is commendable.

Mrunal Thakur excels in her role as Indu, effectively portraying the character’s evolution before and after the interval. The lead pair’s on-screen chemistry adds charm to the proceedings.

The songs are well-composed and visually appealing on the big screen. Additionally, intermittent comedy adds to the overall enjoyment.

Minus Points:

One would anticipate compelling emotional scenes in this genre. However, the film falls short in delivering such moments. Despite Dil Raju’s claim of Family Star being a substantial love story, it fails to leave a lasting impression.

While there is potential for emotional depth, the movie primarily lacks it. Parasuram Petla’s minimal focus on the screenplay makes several scenes feel drawn out.

The placement of songs feels inappropriate, and Gopi Sundar’s background score lacks impact. The second half pales compared to the first, with a few scenes diminishing the viewing experience.

The comedy fails to elicit sufficient laughter, with Vennela Kishore’s talent being underutilized. Jagapathi Babu’s limited screen time and the fleeting presence of other characters further weaken the narrative. Also, there are a few loopholes in the script.

Technical Aspects:

Parasuram Petla’s direction and screenplay fail to engage, lacking strength and cohesion. Gopi Sundar’s music, though satisfactory in songs, falls short in enhancing key moments. While cinematography and production values are decent, editing could be improved for a better narrative flow.

On the whole, The Family Star entertains to a certain extent. Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur deliver fine performances. However, the film’s slow-paced screenplay, lack of emotional depth, ineffective background score, and weak storyline are the notable drawbacks. If you can overlook these aspects, it may still be worth a watch this weekend.
