my first day at school essay

A New Experience

My first day at school was a completely new experience for me. It is because the atmosphere completely changes for any child. You always stay in the comfort and safety of your own home.

However, your first day at school opens door to unknown experiences and opportunities. Much like any other child, I was also scared on my first day. I remember clearly not letting go of my mother’s hand, hesitant to go in the classroom.

On my first day, I got up excited and put on my uniform for the first time. The feeling it gave me was so memorable, I can never forget it. As it was my first day, both my parents went to drop me off.

I remember seeing the classroom full of little children. Some crying while the others playing with others. I looked at my mother and gave her the look that I didn’t want them to leave. They had to go so I kept crying but eventually, my teacher consoled me.

Once I settled in the class, I talked with the other kids and started playing with them. The colourful walls of the classroom fascinated me a lot. We got many toys to play with so it all the other kids also got distracted and stopped crying.

My Sister My Saviour

My advantage was that my sister was also studying in the same school. She is 3 years older than me so she was my senior. During recess, I was starting to miss my parents so I got teary-eyed.

But, then my sister came to meet me and I feel she was no less than a saviour for me that day. She took permission from the teacher to take me out and I went with her to the playground.

We were swinging throughout recess. All my worries went away because I had a known face with me. After eating and swinging together, the bell rang to mark the end of the recess . So, she dropped me back to my class.

Before leaving, she gave me a kiss and patted my head. It was enough for me to go through the rest of the day without crying. Thus, it made me feel extremely blessed that I had my sister there for me.

Conclusion of My First Day At School Essay

Thus, my first day at school was really pleasant. It fills me with pride when I look back at it and share my experience with others. I feel my first day helped me become confident in school which ultimately shaped the rest of my years there. Thus, it was indeed a memorable experience for me.

Essay on My First Day in School in 100 words

It was a cloudy day when I took my first step into the compound of my school. I was carrying a new backpack that was filled with notebooks. Though the backpack was a bit heavy, instead of focusing on the weight, I was excited about the beginning of my journey on my first day in school.

My classroom was at the end of the corridor. As I entered my classroom, my class teacher introduced me to the class and made me feel welcome. Activities like reading, solving problems in groups, and sharing our lunch boxes slowly and steadily transformed the new student with a sense of belonging.

The whole day progressed with mixed excitement as well as emotions. As the bell rang, declaring the end of the school day, the school felt like a world of possibilities where the journey was more than textbooks.

Essay on My First Day in School Sample in 200 Words

It was a sunny day and the sun was shining brightly. With my new and attractive backpack, I was moving through the school gate. It was my first day in school and I was filled with nervousness and excitement. From the tower of the building to the playground everything was bigger than life. As a school student, I was about to enter a new world.

The corridor was filled with the echo of students. As I entered the classroom, wearing a mix of curiosity and excitement, my classmates and class teacher welcomed me with a warm smile. After a round of introductions and some warm-up activities, strangers gradually started tuning into potential friends. At lunchtime, the cafeteria was filled with the smell of delicious food. However, I hesitated before joining the group of students but soon enough, I was laughing with my new friends and sharing stories. The unfamiliar were now my friends and transformed my mixed emotions into delightfulness.

The bell rang for the next class and I stepped out for new learning in my new academic home. My first day of school had many memorable stories, with old subjects and new introductions of knowledge. The day was spent learning, sharing and making new memories.

My first day in school started by stepping onto the school bus with a bag full of books and a heart full of curiosity. It was like I was starting a new chapter in my life. After traveling a long way back, I stepped at the gate of my school. The school gate welcomed me with open arms and greeted me with a sense of excitement as well as nervousness.

As I entered the classroom, I found many new faces. Arranging my stuff on the seat, I sat next to an unknown, who later on turned into the best friend of my life. I entered my class with a welcoming smile, and later on, I turned everything in with ease. During our lunchtime, the cafeteria was filled with the energy of students.

At first, I hesitated to interact with the children, but later on, I was a part of a group that invited me to join the table. At lunchtime, I made many new friends and was no longer a stranger. After having delicious food and chit-chatting with friends, we get back to our respective classrooms. Different subjects such as mathematics, science, and English never left the same impact as they did on the first day of school.

The teacher taught the lessons so interestingly that we learned the chapter with a mix of laughter and learning. At the end of the day, we all went straight to the playground and enjoyed the swings. Moreover, in the playground, I also met many faces who were new to the school and had their first day in school, like me.

While returning home, I realised that my first day was not just about learning new subjects; it was about making new friends, sailing into new vibrant classrooms, and settling myself as a new student. The morning, which was full of uncertainty at the end of the day, came to an end with exciting adventures and endless possibilities. With new experiences, I look forward to new academic and personal growth in the wonderful world of education.

My First Day At School Essay

Everything has a first time. Moments become memories. We all cherish the first time we did something or achieved something, or maybe even won our first competition. The moments you love become happy memories. Here are some sample essays on my first day at school.

100 Word Essay On My First Day At School

My first day at school is a very happy memory and I will always love to revisit it. It was a different experience altogether. From the comfort zone of my home, I was suddenly put into a completely new atmosphere – My Preschool. It looked so crowded and noisy. I still remember, on my first day, I was crying and so the memories of the morning are very blurry.

My First Day At School Essay

My parents comforted me and gave me my favourite chocolate ice-cream. I entered the classroom, and it immediately cheered my mood up. The classroom was very colourful, filled with small benches and a lot of toys and swings.

The teacher came after a few minutes. She was very friendly. After an hour, we all grouped together, and played several fun games and did many activities together. It was a very amazing day.

200 Word Essay On My First Day At School

I still remember my first day at preschool. I was very excited and nervous. Being a 5-year-old kid, it had been so hard for me to leave my home and settle in a completely new place for almost an entire day, but I was a tough kid. I was also very excited to wear my uniform. I reminded Mummy to iron my uniform many times until I checked myself and was sure of it.

My Day At School

When I entered the school with my parents on my first day, I was surprised with the fact that there were so many kids of my age, some were happy and laughing, running in the ground. While a few were very scared and crying, their parents and teachers were trying to calm them down.

I was having mixed feelings, but once I entered class, I was elated with joy. The classroom was coincidently painted with my favourite colour—Sky Blue.

In my first lesson I was taught the alphabet. But since I already knew them, the teacher called me out to recite it in front of the class. I nervously went ahead and did it. Everyone clapped for me. It was a very nice moment and made my first day of the school an unforgettable memory for me.

500 Word Essay On My First Day At School

My first day at school is an unforgettable memory for me and gave me a gift I cherish till this date. It was a cosy and comfortable evening in April when I was informed with the news that I have been admitted to Mount Libra Zee School.

I didn’t know how to react. I have seen my sister going to school daily, sometimes she was happy about it, but sometimes she was very reluctant to go and made silly excuses to avoid the school. My parents had also brought a very cute school uniform. I liked it and was excited to wear it. But I still had no idea about how the first day of my school was going to be.

How My First Day At School Started

The next morning, I dressed up very early in excitement. I ate my breakfast and Mummy packed a small tiffin box for me. At 8 o'clock, I went to the school in my father’s red car.

When I Reached My School

The school building was huge. It was painted with cartoons. I got happy when I saw my favourite cartoon characters, Tom & Jerry painted on the walls too. My father left me at the school gate to a peon after instructing him about my class. The peon picked me up very gently and started walking through the endless corridors. I could see the huge playground in the middle of the school building. It had all kinds of swings in it. For a moment, I wanted to run away to my favourite Merry-Go-Round, but I dropped that temptation and was dropped in front of my class by the peon.

My Classroom

The class had 15 chairs, all painted with cartoon characters. The wall had ABCs and numbers painted on it. It was a very cheerful and colourful environment. My eyes immediately glanced through the students already sitting there. They all were lost in their own world. Some were sobering, while some were making drawings with crayons.

After a few minutes, our teacher came. She asked each of us our names and hobbies, and then she introduced herself to us. Then, she then asked everyone to name the animals and birds painted on a picture board. We all begin singing the names. It was very fun. Ali habashi author photo WF1470000

The first day of school is approaching, and as a teacher, your schedule is likely already filling up with organizational and instructional prep work. However, despite all of your efforts, you may find that some students may emerge slowly from their summer hazes.

Before your middle school or high school students start their assigned reading, get them engaged with these back-to-school writing prompts. Fill up some class time with a few warm-up writing prompts below, or send students home with a larger assignment to get them back into the swing of things!

First Day of School Writing Prompts: Middle School Students

Classroom Prompt Assignments

  • Stream of consciousness is when a character lets their thoughts continuously flow. Write a stream of consciousness story of your own and see where your thoughts take you.
  • For the new school year, what new skill would you choose to learn if you had the time, money, and ability? Why?
  • Write a critique of a book, movie, or show you recently read or watched. What were its strong points? What were its weak ones?
  • Describe the reigning emotions you felt this summer. Why did you feel that way, and how do you think these emotions might change as the school year progresses?
  • Choose a place you traveled to this summer, either locally or far away, and write a blog post about that location. Should other people visit as well? It could be a restaurant, a town, a shop, or a favorite spot to hang out.
  • If there is a club, sport, class, or event you are excited about this year, write what you already know about it. Follow up with some expectations that you have for the experience and yourself.
  • A flashbulb memory is a very detailed memory that you have from when you were young. Do you have any memories like that, and if so, what are they about? Are there any events that have happened recently that you think you will remember for a long time?
  • Do you have any traditions? If not, which one would you want to start this year?
  • Describe the most memorable school project that you’ve ever done. Would you like to do a similar project this year, and if so, how can it be adapted to what you’re learning now?
  • If you could create a themed book display for your school library, what would it be? Which titles would it include, and why?

Take-Home Writing Assignments

  • Write a letter to your younger self, and then another to your older self.
  • One important rule of creative writing is to “Show Don’t Tell.” Write a 1,500-word short story in your favorite genre, following this rule.
  • Write a local wildlife guide to your backyard, neighborhood, local park, or even the school itself. What flora and fauna exist there?
  • Write a 1,000-word essay about an aspect of your summer that focuses on the five basic senses—Sight, Hearing, Smell, Taste, and Touch.

First Day of School Writing Prompts: High School Students

  • Set three resolutions for yourself to accomplish this year and describe why those are the ones you chose.
  • Write a list of How-To instructions for something that you know how to do. It could be making a meal, cleaning something, playing a game, babysitting, drawing a picture, etc.
  • Create a dream college for you to attend once you graduate. Which academic programs does it offer? What sports, art classes, and clubs are offered? Where is it located?
  • Write a short story using only dialogue. Work on creating different voices for each character. If it helps, take notes on each character before the dialogue starts. Does one character use slang? Is the other excitable? Is one character older than the other?
  • Write a song on a subject that isn’t usually heard in other songs.
  • Create a new class for your school to offer. Why do you think that class is necessary? What are the learning goals for that class, and what are the assignments?
  • Which app do you spend the most time on? What are the positive aspects of using the app? What are the negatives?
  • Is there a cause that you want to be a part of? What is it, and why is it important to you?
  • Create a new club for your community or school. What is the club about? What are your goals, and who do you hope will join?
  • Describe three things that you are looking forward to this year.
  • What is your ultimate dream job? Research the industry, company, or role you’re interested in and report on what it is and how to get there. Conclude with your expectations before and after your research. Is the job what you thought it was?
  • Choose a position with the local government to run for and outline a platform to run on. Then, write a speech to voters about your platform. Make sure to research your current representatives to learn what their platforms are.
  • What is going on in the town or city that you live in? Research local events, places, volunteer opportunities, parks, clubs, etc. Visit a new place or attend a new event, then write a review of your experiences using descriptive language. Would you go back again? Why or why not?
  • An executive summary is an intro to a business plan that is designed to grab the reader’s attention by summarizing what the new business will accomplish. Write an executive summary between 500 and 1,000 words for a product, venture, or business that you wish existed.
  • Research a historical figure that looks a little like you do (bonus points if you’ve never heard of them before now). What did they accomplish?

No matter how much or how little your students read this summer, get their creativity flowing with these thought-provoking journal prompts to kick off the year. By focusing on descriptive language, persuasive arguments, and ideas for the future, your middle school or high school class will find their writer's stride in no time.

Essay on Personal Narrative: My First Day At Middle School

I can’t do this anymore. I thought, trying to focus on writing down my math homework and zone out the laughter surrounding me. I know- melodramatic eighth graders, everyone hates ’em. But I’m different- I swear. You just don’t know the whole story. It started when I walked into this wretched class. The worst thing in the history of bad things ever happening to people happened- I tripped. I know, oh the horror! But that’s not just it. I tripped. On my TIED shoelaces. And fell. And people stared. And Aaaughhhghgh.

So, that is how I ended up in this situation, hiding my face in my planner while my classmates laughed at my epic fail. Why did this have to happen on the first day? “Oh come on, it couldn’t have been that bad,” Mabel said, trying to calm me down as we walked to English. People around us laughed and talked, getting as much conversation as they could out of the five minuet passing period. “Not that bad! ” I yelled, throwing my hands up to illustrate my point. A couple people turned to look at the loud sound, this was a pretty normal occurrence for most people.

I lowered my voice slightly, still needing to talk fairly loud to be heard over the sounds of students traversing the halls, “It’s the first day of our last year at middle school, and even Mrs. Narmon chuckled. ” “Chuckled? Who even says that? ” she laughed, tilting her head and scrunching her nose up in mock confusion. “Shut up,” I laughed, pushing her away lightly. She shoved me back and soon we were ramming into each other full force, laughing as we continued on to room 105.

We sobered up as soon as we got to the classroom, Mr. Forre was really intimidating seeing as everyone liked him and I didn’t want to get on his bad side. Well, he wasn’t very intimidating in appearance, standing at a whopping 5″3′ wearing a floral dress shirt and bright blue bowtie, but he had one of those presences that you just couldn’t ignore. Well, no going back now, I thought as I pulled the door open and nervously walked inside. “Caly! ” I heard, and was immediately tackled by a blur of dark curls and blue. “Ha! ” I heard Mabel laugh at my expense from behind, barely avoiding the curly-haired missle that had just knocked me to the ground. Good to see you too, Daffy, but do you think you could let go now? I can’t breath. ”

I said to the girl currently crushing my windpipe in a hug. “I haven’t seen you all summer! How’ve you been? Was you’re summer good? Did you have fun? Did you do anything cool? Did you meet anyone new? ” she asked, not even taking a breath between questions. The bell prevented me from answering her, and the three of us quickly found seats near each other. Everyone stopped chatting as Mr. Forre walked in, his oddly imposing presence quietening the restless students. “Hello.

As you know, or have figured out, I am Mr. Forre, and I will be your English teacher for this year. My goal is to erase the damage that has been done in previous years by thinking that when writing, you have to use a specific format and it has to be this length and blah blah blah. No- this is not true. Authors don’t use only one format. ” As he went on, I could tell he was going to be a good teacher by his ability to capture the attention of thirty Middle-Schoolers on the first day of school.

That took real skill, especially in a seventh period class, which was the last class of the day. Now that that’s done with-I should probably take attendance. ” This made the class laugh, seeing as he looked like he had just remembered to do that. “Daffodil? Andrews? ” He called, looking around the class. “I go by Daffy,” I heard Daffy say, and he marked her down in attendance, noting the nickname. “Peter? Dickinson? ” Knowing that my name was probably around the middle of that list, I mostly zoned out during role call, only catching a few names here and there.

“Mable? Heathman? ” I snapped to attention hearing her yell “Sup! knowing that our last names are rather close together alphabetically. Please don’t make a spectacle of yourself, we do not need another Math. I thought to myself, Preparing for my name to be called. “Calypso? Jackson? ” I nearly panicked as I heard my name being called, not expecting there to be so few people whose last names start with I. “Here! ” | said a bit too quickly, wincing a little at the panicky sound of my voice. “But you can call me Caly. ” I said, trying to calm my thudding heart, internally cursing my eternal awkwardness. Why do I always get so nervous when addressed by adults?

A few other names were called and I eventually calmed down. Mr. Forre started explaining about what we were going to do in class today. “I will not be doing a ‘get to know each other’ activity because, come on, you’ve been with these people for three years, you should at least know most of their names by now. ” a couple of the students laughed at this. “Instead, we will be jumping right into work,” At this, we groaned, not wanting to have to do work on the first day of school. “I know, I know- Mr. Forre is the worst teacher ever, he’s making us do actual work on the first day! At this, he threw his hands up in mock horror, before continuing on with his speech.

“So, does anyone know what a mentor text is? ” I’d continue on with what we did in class that day, but then you’d get bored. So instead-time skip. I always love these things. “Yo, you got the stuff? ” “Yeah. It’s in my bag. ” Okay, so before you jump to conclusions and accuse us of being thirteen year old drug dealers, let me clear some things up. The mysterious object hidden inside Mabel’s bag was not drugs, it was a book Now you must be thinking-Oh my god, all this stupid suspense for a book? Seriously?

But it’s not just any book-it’s the Totally Amazingly Magically Wonderful Book of Mabel and Caly’s Friendship! Since that probably didn’t clear anything up anymore than before, I will elaborate further. Last year, when Mabel and I became friends, she suggested that we make something called a “friendship book” because she had done it with a different friend before. What a friendship book really is isn’t all that complicated. Basically it’s cloth covered notebook that we share. Every day we switch off, and write things that are on our mind, secrets that we want to tell the other, or other super important stuff.

Although, we usually just call it The Book, as to be discreet about it. Now that I’m done breaking the fourth wall- on to the story! Last night Mabel had the book, and of course we had to pretend to be super shady as we transfer it from one person to the other. “Thanks,” I said, zipping up my bag and making note to remind myself to read it later. “Damn. That’s my moms car,” I said. I had wanted to hang out for a bit longer today. “Bye, see you tomorrow! ” Mabel said, giving me a side hug and waving. “Adios. “

creative writing prompts for high school and middle school teens

Some high school students dream of writing for a living, perhaps pursuing an English major in college, or even attending a creative writing MFA program later on. For other students, creative writing can be useful for school assignments, in English and other subjects, and also for preparing their Common App essays . In a less goal-oriented sense, daily freewriting in a journal can be a healthy life practice for many high schoolers. Not sure where to start? Continue reading for 100 creative writing prompts for middle school and high school students. These middle/high school writing prompts offer inspiration for getting started with writing in a number of genres and styles.

What are Creative Writing Prompts?

Similar to how an academic essay prompt provides a jumping-off point for forming and organizing an argument, creative writing prompts are points of initiation for writing a story, poem, or creative essay. Prompts can be useful for writers of all ages, helping many to get past writer’s block and just start (often one of the most difficult parts of a writing process).

Writing prompts come in a variety of forms. Sometimes they are phrases used to begin sentences. Other times they are questions, more like academic essay prompts Writing prompts can also involve objects such as photographs, or activities such as walking. Below, you will find high school writing prompts that use memories, objects, senses (smell/taste/touch), abstract ideas , and even songs as jumping-off points for creative writing. These prompts can be used to write in a variety of forms, from short stories to creative essays, to poems.

How to use Creative Writing Prompts

Before we get started with the list, are a few tips when using creative writing prompts:

Experiment with different formats : Prose is great, but there’s no need to limit yourself to full sentences, at least at first. A piece of creative writing can begin with a poem, or a dialogue, or even a list. You can always bring it back to prose later if needed.

Interpret the prompt broadly : The point of a creative writing prompt is not to answer it “correctly” or “precisely.” You might begin with the prompt, but then your ideas could take you in a completely different direction. The words in the prompt also don’t need to open your poem or essay, but could appear somewhere in the middle.

Switch up/pile up the prompts : Try using two or three prompts and combine them, or weave between them. Perhaps choose a main prompt, and a different “sub-prompt.” For example, your main prompt might be “write about being in transit from one place to another,” and within that prompt, you might use the prompt to “describe a physical sensation,” and/or one the dialogue prompts.  This could be a fun way to find complexity as you write.

Creative Writing Prompts for Middle School & High School Students (Continued)

Write first, edit later : While you’re first getting started with a prompt, leave the typos and bad grammar. Obsessing over details can take away from your flow of thoughts. You will inevitably make many fixes when you go back through to edit.

Write consistently : It often becomes easier to write when it’s a practice , rather than a once-in-a-while kind of activity. For some, it’s useful to write daily. Others find time to write every few days, or every weekend. Sometimes, a word-count goal can help (100 words a day, 2,000 words a month, etc.). If you set a goal, make sure it’s realistic. Start small and build from there, rather than starting with an unachievable goal and quickly giving up.

100 Creative Writing Prompts for Middle School & High School Teens
