The Road Review: త్రిష హీరోయిన్‌గా క్రైమ్ థ్రిల్ల‌ర్ క‌థాంశంతో రూపొందిన త‌మిళ మూవీ ది రోడ్ ఇటీవ‌ల థియేట‌ర్ల‌లో రిలీజైంది. ఈ లేడీ ఓరియెంటెడ్ మూవీకి అరుణ్ వ‌సీగ‌ర‌ణ్ ద‌ర్శ‌క‌త్వం వ‌హించాడు.

మీరా పోరాటం...

మీరా (త్రిష‌) త‌న కొడుకు కెవిన్ బ‌ర్త్‌డేకు కొడైకెనాల్ ట్రిప్ ప్లాన్ చేస్తుంది. కానీ మీరా ప్రెగ్నెంట్ కావ‌డంతో డాక్ట‌ర్ లాంగ్ డ్రైవ్‌కు వెళ్ల‌కూడ‌ద‌ని స‌ల‌హా ఇస్తుంది. చివ‌రి నిమిషంలో మీరా ట్రిప్ నుంచి త‌ప్పుకుంటుంది. మీరా భ‌ర్త‌ ఆనంద్‌తో (సంతోష్ ప్ర‌తాప్‌) పాటు ఆమె కొడుకు కెవిన్ మాత్ర‌మే కొడైకెనాల్ కారులో వెళ‌తారు. దారిలో వారి కారుకు యాక్సిడెంట్ అవుతుంది. ఆ ప్ర‌మాదంలో ఆనంద్‌, కెవిన్ చ‌నిపోతారు.

త‌న భ‌ర్త‌, కొడుకు యాక్సిడెంట్‌లోనే చ‌నిపోయార‌ని అంద‌రితో పాటు మీరా అనుకుంటుంది. కానీ అది ప్ర‌మాదం కాద‌ని, మ‌ర్డ‌ర్ అని మీరాకు ఆ త‌ర్వాత‌ తెలుస్తుంది? త‌న భ‌ర్త చ‌నిపోయిన ప్ర‌దేశంలోనే త‌ర‌చుగా యాక్సిడెంట్‌లు జ‌రుగుతున్నాయ‌ని మీరా అన్వేష‌ణ‌లో తేలుతుంది. ఆ ప్ర‌దేశంలోనే యాక్సిడెంట్‌లు జ‌ర‌గ‌డానికి కార‌ణం ఏమిటి?

క్రైమ్ మిస్ట‌రీ థ్రిల్ల‌ర్‌ క‌థాంశంతో ది రోడ్ మూవీని ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు అరుణ్ వ‌సీగ‌ర‌ణ్ తెర‌కెక్కించాడు. ఫేక్ యాక్సిడెంట్స్‌కు పాల్ప‌డుతూ ప్ర‌జ‌ల‌ను దోచుకుంటోన్న ఓ ముఠా గుట్టును సాధార‌ణ యువ‌తి ఎలా క‌నిపెట్టింది? త‌న భ‌ర్త‌, కొడుకు మ‌ర‌ణంపై ఏ విధంగా ప్ర‌తీకారం తీర్చుకున్న‌ద‌నే పాయింట్‌తో ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు ది రోడ్(The Road Review) క‌థ‌ను రాసుకున్నాడు. సింపుల్ స్టోరీని డిఫ‌రెంట్ స్క్రీన్‌ప్లేతో కొత్త‌గా స్క్రీన్‌పై ప్ర‌జెంట్ చేసే ప్ర‌య‌త్నం చేశాడు.

ప్యార‌లల్ స్టోరీస్‌...

ఓ వైపు త్రిష క‌థ‌, మ‌రోవైపు విల‌న్ స్టోరీ రెండు క‌థ‌ల‌ను స‌మాంత‌రంగా చూపిస్తూ సినిమా సాగుతుంది. అయితే త్రిష స్టోరీ ప్ర‌జెంట్‌లో న‌డిస్తే...విల‌న్ క‌థ మాత్రం పాస్ట్‌లో రివ‌ర్స్ స్క్రీన్‌ప్లేతో సాగుతుంది. ఆ స్క్రీన్‌ప్లే టెక్నిక్ సినిమాకు(The Road Review) ప్ల‌స్ పాయింట్‌గా నిలిచింది. అమాయ‌కుడైన ఓ వ్య‌క్తి త‌న‌పై ప‌డ్డ త‌ప్పుడు ఆరోప‌ణ‌ల కార‌ణంగా స‌మాజం నుంచి ఎలాంటి అవ‌మానాల్ని ఎదుర్కొన్నాడు? ఆ సంఘ‌ట‌న‌లు అత‌డిని ఏ విధంగా త‌ప్పుడు దారి ప‌ట్టించాయ‌న్న‌ది విల‌న్ పాత్ర ద్వారా చూపించిన విధానం బాగుంది.

ఒక్కో చిక్కుముడి...

త్రిష ఫ్యామిలీ నేప‌థ్యంలో వ‌చ్చే సీన్స్‌తోనే ది రోడ్ సినిమా మొద‌ల‌వుతుంది. ఆ త‌ర్వాత యాక్సిడెంట్‌లో ఆనంద్‌, కెవిన్ చ‌నిపోవ‌డం, వారిది యాక్సిడెంట్ కాద‌ని త్రిష క‌నిపెట్టే సీన్‌తోనే అస‌లు స్టోరీ లోకి డైరెక్ట‌ర్ ఎంట‌ర్ అయ్యారు. ఆ క్రైమ్ వెన‌కున్న ఒక్కో చిక్కుముడిని త్రిష విప్పుకుంటూ వెళుతూ చివ‌ర‌కు అస‌లైన విల‌న్‌ను క‌నిపెట్ట‌డంతో సినిమా(The Road Review) ఎండ్ అవుతుంది.

కాన్సెప్ట్ బాగుంది....కానీ

ఫేక్ యాక్సిడెంట్స్ అనే కాన్సెప్ట్ బాగున్నా దానిని స్క్రీన్‌పై ఎంగేజింగ్‌గా చెప్ప‌లేక‌పోయాడు డైరెక్ట‌ర్‌. హీరోయిన్‌, విల‌న్ కాన్‌ఫ్లిక్ట్ స‌రిగా పండ‌లేదు. త్రిష ఇన్వేస్టిగేష‌న్ మొత్తం న‌త్త‌న‌డ‌క‌న సాగుతుంది. ట్విస్ట్‌లు ఈజీగా గెస్ చేసేలానే ఉంటాయి. త్రిష‌పై చిత్రీక‌రించిన‌ యాక్ష‌న్ ఎపిసోడ్స్ ఆక‌ట్టుకోవు. లేడీ విల‌న్ గ్యాంగ్ బ్యాచ్ న‌ట‌న‌ ఆర్టిఫిషియ‌ల్‌గా ఉంది.

త్రిష యాక్టింగ్ ప్ల‌స్‌...

పెద్ద క్రైమ్‌ను వెలికితీసే సాధార‌ణ యువ‌తిగా త్రిష యాక్టింగ్ బాగుంది. వ‌న్ ఉమెన్ షోగా ఈ సినిమాకు నిలిచింది. ఎమోష‌న‌ల్ సీన్స్‌లో మెప్పించింది. అమాయ‌కుడి నుంచి విల‌న్‌గా మారే యువ‌కుడిగా ష‌బీర్ న‌ట‌న ఆక‌ట్టుకుంటుంది. త్రిష స్నేహితురాలిగా మియాజార్జ్‌, కానిస్టేబుల్‌గా ఎమ్‌, ఎస్ భాస్క‌ర్ ప్రాధాన్య‌మున్న పాత్ర‌ల్లో క‌నిపించారు.

ది రోడ్ అడుగ‌డుగునా స్పీడు బ్రేకులే ఉన్న క్రైమ్ మిస్ట‌రీ థ్రిల్ల‌ర్ మూవీ ఇది. పాయింట్ కొత్త‌గా ఉన్నా క‌థ‌నాన్ని స్క్రీన్‌పై ఆవిష్క‌రించిన తీరు మాత్రం డిజ‌పాయింట్ చేస్తుంది.

Maestro is a film that many were waiting for eagerly. The film is the official remake of Andha Adhun and is now live on Disney Hotstar. Let’s see how it is.

Arun(Nithin) is a blind man who earns his living by playing the piano in Goa. Impressed by him, a yesteryear actor(Naresh) invites him to perform for his wife Simran(Tamannah) on their wedding anniversary. Arun lands at the star’s house only to get involved in a deadly murder. Who has been killed? What will Arun do now? What’s Simran’s role in all this? and where do Nabha Natesh and Jisshu Sen Gupta feature in this setup? That forms the rest of the story.

Plus Points:

Nithin makes a U-turn from his regular romantic dramas and chooses a role where he gets to perform. Nithin as the blind man suits the character perfectly and does not go overboard. There is no heroism in his role but still, Nithin made sure his body language expresses a lot.

Maestro will surely be a big game-changer for Tamannah as she is amazing in a negative role. Right from her looks to the expressions, Tamannah is top class. Her own voice also suits the negative role. All her scenes with Nithin have been executed so well.

The soul of the film is intact and has not been disturbed by the makers. The backdrop of Goa also suits the theme of the film. Nabha Natesh is neat in her small role and shares good chemistry with Nithin. Racha Ravi and Mangli get good roles and they do well in their given characters.

Minus Points:

Those who have seen the original will surely draw comparisons. Merlapaka Gandhi has directed the film and he has narrated the remake in a faithful manner. But the place where the film drops is the drama quotient. The film originally had gripping drama but the director failed to elevate it in the remake.

Nithin’s role needed more dramatization but he is showcased in a pale and dull manner in tense scenes. The tension he faces in crazy situations has not been elevated properly. If Nithin’s role and thrills would have been showcased in a more interesting manner in the second half, the effect would have been even better.

All the showcased thrills are good but the impact that the original created is missed in the remake. During the climax, the audience is waiting in tension to know the twist and a song breaks out and this drags the ending.

Technical Aspects:

The production values are great as the film has good visuals. The Goan setup and the crime backdrop are elevated well through good camerawork. Music by Mahati Sagar is just about okay but his BGM was classy. The editing is decent and so was the production design. Nithin was also styled well in the film.

Coming to the director Merlapaka Gandhi, he has done a decent job with the remake. He does not experiment much and showcased what was needed. If he would have added more intensity to the drama, things would have been great.

On the whole, Maestro is a faithful remake of Andha Dhun and has interesting thrills. Nithin and Tamannah shoulder the film with their standout performances. All those who have seen the original will surely miss the drama a bit. But those who have not will end up liking this thriller which was some passable suspense elements.

Akkineni Nagarjuna’s new movie, Naa Saami Ranga, has hit the big screens today amidst decent buzz. Check out our review to know how it fares.

In Ambajipeta village, President Peddayya (Nasser) helps Kistayya’s (Nagarjuna) family during a crisis. Loyalist Kistayya loves Mahalaxmi, aka Varalu (Ashika Ranganath). However, an unexpected incident separates them. Dasu (Shabeer Kallarakkal), Peddayya’s son, wants to harm Kistayya and his brother Anji (Allari Naresh). Why the rivalry? Why did Varalu and Kistayya split? How is Bhaskar (Raj Tarun) connected to the story? The movie has all the answers.

Plus Points:

Nagarjuna’s enduring charm, complemented by his mass appeal and striking looks, remains consistently impressive. Fans find delight in his dialogue delivery and on-screen presence, as he delivers an acceptable performance in the role of an elder brother and a loyalist to Nasser.

Ashika Ranganathan deserves applause for greenlighting this project, even after being aware that she will be playing a character beyond her age. The actress captivates the audiences with her beauty and acting prowess, particularly shining in the scenes alongside Nagarjuna.

Allari Naresh entertains and leaves a lasting impression, especially in the second half. MM Keeravaani contributes effectively with his music, which sets the right emotional tones. The well-designed pre-climax and climax scenes add to the movie’s appeal, and the supporting cast delivers satisfactory performances.

Minus Points:

The film’s storyline lacks novelty for Telugu audiences, and the screenplay, managed by director Vijay Binni himself, could have been handled more effectively.

Characters played by Raj Tarun, Shabeer, and Rukshar Dhillon could have been developed further. Despite Vijay Binni’s neat direction, a more fast-paced screenplay could have elevated the overall impact. Prasanna Kumar’s involvement could have infused more heartwarming emotional scenes, particularly in the second half.

The emotional bond between Allari Naresh and Nagarjuna could have been better portrayed in the first half, influencing scenes in the latter half to provide enhanced entertainment for audiences.

A more vigorous portrayal of the villain and a more thoughtful placement of a couple of songs could have improved the overall experience.

Technical Aspects:

In his directorial debut, Vijay Binni handles the film effectively, but a more focused effort on a gripping screenplay could have yielded better results. Writer Prasanna Kumar could have concentrated more on the story’s betterment.

MM Keeravaani elevates numerous scenes with his impressive background score, effectively capturing the right mood for love, action, and sadness. Nice editing and cinematography contribute to the film’s quality, with appreciable production values. The art department also deserves recognition for its valuable contributions.

On the whole, Naa Saami Ranga is a watchable village drama. Nagarjuna, Allari Naresh, and Ashika Ranganathan deliver decent performances. However, the slow-paced first half and the absence of significant highlight sequences pose as the main hurdles. While the movie may not appeal to all sections of the audience, it promises enjoyment for mass and family audiences this festive season.
