Introduction to quality.

Description

In today's business, quality is as important as it was ever before. As a key driver of customer satisfaction, quality transcends from products and services to the business model and customer experience. Moreover, successful Lean organizations in Japan are built on a strong foundation of quality. For without quality, delivering faster or cheaper is of no value to the customer.

This presentation introduces the basic concepts, philosophies and principles of quality. It includes the definitions of quality, benefits of quality improvement, teachings of the quality gurus, key elements of total quality, business excellence models, quality system and the methods and tools for quality improvement.

Also highlighted are the key quality mindsets and practices at the individual level: inspection is a poor substitute for quality; treat the next process as customer; quality begins with me; continuous improvement; and personal quality standards.

NOTE: This training package includes: 1. Introduction to Quality PPT training presentation (PowerPoint format, 16:9 widescreen) 2. The Inspection Exercise (PowerPoint format, 4:3 standard screen)

Introduction to Quality and its Importance Marieke Guy UKOLN [email protected] http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/qa-focus/ QA Focus – Supporting JISC's 5/99 Programme

What is Quality? • There are so many definitions for Quality. • Quality is….. • Based on judgments by an individual or organisation • Fitness for purpose • Corresponds to a rating • Based on acceptable performance • Meeting goals • Meeting requirements QA Focus – Supporting JISC's 5/99 Programme

What is Quality Assurance? • What is Quality? Quality is the ability of your product to be able to satisfy your users • What is Quality Assurance? Quality Assurance is the process that demonstrates your product is able to satisfy your users QA Focus – Supporting JISC's 5/99 Programme

What is the Aim of QA? • What is the aim of Quality Assurance? When good Quality Assurance is implemented there should be improvement in usability and performance and lessening rates of defects QA Focus – Supporting JISC's 5/99 Programme

What does QA give? • Quality’ means your project is ‘useful’ - without ‘quality’ you may have little to offer • ‘Quality’ can help to future-proof projects • But ‘quality assurance’ needs documented standards and best practices to be meaningful • ‘Quality’ & ‘Best Practice’ can be considered in terms of being ‘Fit for Purpose’ QA Focus – Supporting JISC's 5/99 Programme

Why is QA needed? • In the past JISC had standards-based philosophy but: • Approach of "let a 1,000 flowers bloom" • Diversification as no killer application • Things are different now: • The Web is the killer application • There is now a need for interoperability (now self-contained independent Web sites) • There is a need for publicly-funded services to be seen to provide value for money QA Focus – Supporting JISC's 5/99 Programme

What is Quality Control? • Quality Control (QC) is the implementation of regular testing procedures against your definitions of quality and more specifically the refinement of these procedures • Formal use of testing • Acting on the results of your tests • Requires planning, structured tests, good documentation • Relates to output - Quality Circle • Standards - ISO 9000 & BS5750 • however there is currently no such standard for Web sites QA Focus – Supporting JISC's 5/99 Programme

How to make a good presentation

A top-notch presentation possesses the power to drive action. From winning stakeholders over and conveying a powerful message to securing funding — your secret weapon lies within the realm of creating an effective presentation .

Being an excellent presenter isn’t confined to the boardroom. Whether you’re delivering a presentation at work, pursuing an academic career, involved in a non-profit organization or even a student, nailing the presentation game is a game-changer.

When it comes to giving an engaging presentation that leaves a lasting impression, it’s not just about the content — it’s also about how you deliver it. Wondering what makes a good presentation? Well, the best presentations I’ve seen consistently exhibit these 10 qualities:

1. Clear structure

No one likes to get lost in a maze of information. Organize your thoughts into a logical flow, complete with an introduction, main points and a solid conclusion. A structured presentation helps your audience follow along effortlessly, leaving them with a sense of satisfaction at the end.

Regardless of your presentation style , a quality presentation starts with a clear roadmap. Browse through Venngage’s template library and select a presentation template that aligns with your content and presentation goals. Here’s a good presentation example template with a logical layout that includes sections for the introduction, main points, supporting information and a conclusion:

3. Relevant content

Make sure your content aligns with their interests and needs. Your audience is there for a reason, and that’s to get valuable insights. Avoid fluff and get straight to the point, your audience will be genuinely excited.

4. Effective visual aids

Whether you’re an experienced presenter or a novice, the right techniques will let your presentation skills soar to new heights!

From public speaking hacks to interactive elements and storytelling prowess, these 9 effective presentation techniques will empower you to leave a lasting impression on your audience and make your presentations unforgettable.

1. Confidence and positive body language

Positive body language instantly captivates your audience, making them believe in your message as much as you do. Strengthen your stage presence and own that stage like it’s your second home! Stand tall, shoulders back and exude confidence.

2. Eye contact with the audience

Break down that invisible barrier and connect with your audience through their eyes. Maintaining eye contact when giving a presentation builds trust and shows that you’re present and engaged with them.

3. Effective use of hand gestures and movement

A little movement goes a long way! Emphasize key points with purposeful gestures and don’t be afraid to walk around the stage. Your energy will be contagious!

4. Utilize storytelling techniques

Weave the magic of storytelling into your presentation. Share relatable anecdotes, inspiring success stories or even personal experiences that tug at the heartstrings of your audience. Adjust your pitch, pace and volume to match the emotions and intensity of the story. Varying your speaking voice adds depth and enhances your stage presence.

5. Incorporate multimedia elements

When they actively participate, they become invested in your presentation’s success. Bring your design to life with animated elements. Venngage allows you to apply animations to icons, images and text to create dynamic and engaging visual content.

6. Utilize humor strategically

Laughter is the best medicine—and a fantastic presentation enhancer! A well-placed joke or lighthearted moment can break the ice and create a warm atmosphere , making your audience more receptive to your message.

7. Practice active listening and respond to feedback

Be attentive to your audience’s reactions and feedback. If they have questions or concerns, address them with genuine interest and respect. Your responsiveness builds rapport and shows that you genuinely care about their experience.

8. Apply the 10-20-30 rule

Apply the 10-20-30 presentation rule and keep it short, sweet and impactful! Stick to ten slides, deliver your presentation within 20 minutes and use a 30-point font to ensure clarity and focus. Less is more, and your audience will thank you for it!

9. Implement the 5-5-5 rule

Simplicity is key. Limit each slide to five bullet points, with only five words per bullet point and allow each slide to remain visible for about five seconds. This rule keeps your presentation concise and prevents information overload.

Simple presentations are more engaging because they are easier to follow. Summarize your presentations and keep them simple with Venngage’s gallery of simple presentation templates and ensure that your message is delivered effectively across your audience.

An Introduction to QM: The QM Quickie

When we decided to adopt Quality Matters (QM) on our campus we encountered a problem of buy-in from faculty.   They did not know what QM was all about and did not want to invest the time, energy or money into an unknown. This session demonstrates and discusses a teaser presentation used to introduce faculty to Quality Matters (QM).   Our main goal with the presentation is to encourage faculty to sign up for the full “Applying the QM Rubric” training. Our QM Quickie presentation has proved to be successful across campus.   Many colleges, departments and programs have invited us to come and talk to their faculty about QM and have become part of the QM movement across campus.
