Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that Last Seen Alive is an action thriller with strong language, some bloody violence, and drugs. Real estate developer Will Spann ( Gerard Butler ) is trying to save his marriage when his wife, Lisa ( Jaimie Alexander ), suddenly disappears. The movie hinges on suspense and certain characters not being honest with Will and Detective Roy Patterson ( Russell Hornsby ), who each carry out their own investigations into Lisa's possible abduction. Violence features occasionally, as Will resorts to desperate means. The most extreme cases include gun violence, shootings, and death, with some bloody injuries but no gore. Detective Patterson also uses force when dealing with violent criminals who are reluctant to talk to him. Swearing is constant, with multiple variations of "f--k" used throughout. Various characters are motivated by money -- Will's wealth plays a factor in his efforts to find his wife. Drugs are also dealt and manufactured at scale in some scenes, while there is also some drug use, including a character smoking an unidentified substance from a pipe. There is some discussion of Lisa's infidelities and a man is also seen in just his underwear. To stay in the loop on more movies like this, you can sign up for weekly Family Movie Night emails .

If you like sitting in the edge of your seat~ this is a great movie!

What's the story.

LAST SEEN ALIVE follows real estate developer Will Spann ( Gerard Butler ) in the aftermath of the mysterious disappearance of his wife, Lisa ( Jaimie Alexander ), at a gas station.

Is It Any Good?

Caught in two minds as to whether it wants to be a psychological thriller or an action-adventure, Brian Goodman 's film never manages to get its story straight. Saving its Taken -like revenge rampage for the closing stages, Last Seen Alive still can't manage to create a sense of intrigue about any of its characters. Central to this is Butler's Will, who manages to be equal parts real estate developer, vigilante warrior, and super sleuth -- basically whatever the convoluted plot needs him to be in order to move things forward.

The flashback scenes of marital strife try to give us some indication of what sort of person Will is. But these are never linked to his life or work well enough for them to carry any weight. Likewise, the bad guys pretty much appear out of nowhere toward the end, half-borrowed from the first season of True Detective with their shotguns and rural meth lab. Butler does his best to sell the drama and the trauma of Will's situation. But he looks much more comfortable playing men whose missions make more sense, be it defending Sparta ( 300 ) or saving the President's skin in the Has Fallen series. Will's wife isn't the only thing missing in Last Seen Alive : it also needed a dose of originality, other than its bizarre suggestion that couples who survive kidnappings together, stay together.

Discuss Will and Lisa's relationship problems. How did these affect the way they talked to one another? How did the movie's use of flashbacks reveal more about them?

Last Seen Alive (2022) Movie Review – One of the worst thrillers in recent memory

One of the worst thrillers in recent memory.

Actor Gerard Butler is not without talent but he has made some pretty bad career choices over the years. Geostorm , London Has Fallen , and The Bounty Hunter rank as some of his worst, but many more bad-to-middling efforts could be mentioned here. But in terms of quality, none are as awful as Last Seen Alive , a thriller with fewer thrills than a visit to your local Post Office.

Last Seen Alive is a poorly made, poorly scripted effort that has to rank as Butler’s worst-ever movie and considering he once starred in the infamously bad ‘comedy’ Movie 43 , that really is saying something.

The premise of Last Seen Alive isn’t a bad one, however, although it is a little familiar. It details the story of Will Spann whose wife Lisa (Jamie Alexander) mysteriously disappears at a gas station. Where did she go? Well, that would be telling, although there isn’t much of a mystery behind her vanishing as this movie is as generic as they come.

After running around in a desperate effort to find his wife, Will calls the police. Frustrated at their lack of action, he then gets caught up in the criminal underbelly of the nearby town when he decides to take the law into his own hands. After implementing his own special brand of vigilante justice, the truth behind his wife’s disappearance comes to light. Is she dead? Is she alive? Did Jamie Alexander depart the movie early in search of a better script?

Tune in if you want to find out but your time will be much better served watching a superior ‘missing persons movie,’ such as Breakdown , Frantic , or Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners . These are all excellent examples of the genre with stories you can become invested in, unlike Last Seen Alive which has nothing to recommend it.

There is no suspense in this one and despite the potential for some interesting twists and turns, there is absolutely nothing here that will surprise or shock you. The biggest mystery of all is why Butler and his co-stars agreed to star in this mess as nobody is well-served by the diabolically bad screenplay that features some of the worst dialogue in a movie I have heard in a long time.

The direction is bad too, which is something of a surprise as Brian Goodman, who made this misfire, also directed 2008’s What Doesn’t Kill You , a critically acclaimed crime drama that starred Ethan Hawke and Mark Ruffalo.

Admittedly, he didn’t have a good script to work from this time around but that doesn’t excuse his workmanlike direction and his failed attempts to ratchet up any tension. He wastes the talents of good actors as he does nothing to extract decent performances from any of them. It’s almost as if he realised he had a clunker on his hands and decided to coast by without putting in any real effort.

The movie could have been salvaged with a few solid action scenes to break up the mediocrity of the cliched script. Unfortunately, Goodman favours flashbacks to Will’s troubled marriage to anything that could reasonably be considered exciting. This is a pity, as not only are these moments as unconvincingly played as the rest of the scenes in this dumb movie, but they are largely pointless too.

They prolong the film’s running time rather than add anything of narrative value and if you’re desperately waiting for the end credits to roll, you might feel a deep sense of frustration every time there is a break in the plot to make room for the scenes of Will and Lisa’s crumbling relationship.

Ultimately, this is less about Lisa’s disappearance and more about the disappearance of plot logic, originality, and creativity. It has a lot in common with the recent run of B-movies that Nicolas Cage and Bruce Willis have starred in with its cheap feel and lacklustre storytelling, and as such, deserves to be thrown away and never to be seen again. Even if you lower your expectations when going into this one, you are going to be disappointed.

I desperately tried to find something to like about this movie, in a vain attempt to say something positive to balance out my negativity. Unfortunately, I came up short as this is one of the worst films I have seen in recent memory and as such, I cannot recommend it, even if you’re a fan of the leading actor.

As the people behind Last Seen Alive didn’t make a lot of effort when putting it together, you shouldn’t put any effort into watching it as there are far better movies out there that are more deserving of your time.

This is a fantastic thrill ride. My heart was racing the whole time. Gerard Butler deserves an award for his acting; totally believable, utter high emotion, yet somehow contained, because he has to stay on mission, but just what I imagine a real person would be going through in that situation. You can feel his angst. People that can’t appreciate this movie may be spoiled by big budget blockbusters and incredible special effects, but this is more like true life. Basic sets like scenes you see in real life. Real characters. Other comments here are mistaking real-people characters, low-key and basic folks, for bad acting. One of my favorite movies in a long time. I salute Gerard for choosing this quality role and making it real. He’s an actor, after all, not a Prima Donna. The only holes I can cite have to do with the use, or lack thereof, of the cell phones (including pinging her cell phone to find its last location); how detective doesn’t ask more when the skank says he “dug the hole” (as in, “But was she alive? Did you see her body?”). And, given that she could have been buried alive, and all the action takes place in a single day, the detective should have been racing to get to the hole and see if she was still alive. How the parents attack Gerard when he first reports the trouble (not plausible—time for family squabbles later); And how Gerard certainly would have searched the WHOLE property to find his wife, not just sit down and rest, with there still being at least one building he hadn’t even tried. And it was a little implausible, as others have opined, just how much the detective interrogates Gerard Butler. I know these days spouses make good suspects but they have to find the missing person first, or try, and open an investigation. Not believable to interrogate the husband when he first comes to the station reporting the disappearance, and he is not even seemingly looking for the wife (although it is implied that he has initiated an APB). Very good movie.

This is terrible. Nothing that happens in it makes any sense. I lost interest not quite half way through it and looked up the plot line on the internet and I’m glad I did. I didn’t even finish watching it!

I loved it. Kept my on the edge of my seat. Some plot inanities, but bozos what about suspending disbelief. It’s a movie and it’s meant to entertain and it did.

Worst movie ever. Acting sucks. Writing sucks. Plot sucks. Makes no sense whatsoever. No action to speak of. No surprises. This critic is spot on. The positive reviews have to be from production company because no one could possibly think this was good. It’s that bad. Frustratingly bad. Horribly bad. So sad how bad it is. Don’t. Waste. Your. Time. Seriously.

I enjoyed the movie and actually read this review first. Will agree the police screwed the pooch on the investigation but I think that was just to keep them out of the way and let Gerard do what he does best. I wonder how many of you would have stayed out like the cops sad and let your wife die? Probably a lot of you these days. Good movie. Watch it!

The only outcome that could have saved this move would have been that Butler staged the kidnapping to be able to find her and win her back. At least that could have been half original. Short that, it was a semi random act with no real throughput to piece it together

I have NEVER listened to what the movie critics say and I read too many that regurgitated the same in the comments, for some reason itnmakes them feel ____(fill in the blank). Thank goodness there are some honest folks out there.. I come from a long line of movie lovers in my family, I am 63, and I like all kinds of genres, especially thrillers. To me this wasn’t what I would consider a thriller per say, but it was GOOD!! Oh, it’s nothing like the Taken!! Except being kidnapped… and a husband looking for his wife!!

Enjoy it!!!

This wasn’t a great movie, but I enjoyed it. Gerard Butler was fun as hell to watch. There was a time when critics were good, but the guy that did this review is an idiot. Movies suck now, almost without exception, and the only thing worse is the losers with blogs and websites telling us what is good and what isn’t. I’d say they’re irrelevant, but they sadly aren’t. I’m sure most other “critics” will have the same opinion as this nitwit does. I liked Prisoners more too. But I think people want movies that aren’t preaching to them, and this one isn’t – for once.

50 k movie budget

the reviews here are the best part of this movie..Sandra’s comment literally had me laughing on the floor, so funny..that movie was hands down one of the top 5 worst movie i’ve ever seen..so sorry i just wasted 1.5d hours..but on a serious note..everyone here saying this movie was good has me shook and fearful for humanity and good taste..😵

Absolute inane drivel. Plot devised by someone with room temperature IQ. Acting was embarrassing. Train wreck from start to finish.

Really sad the “critics” especially the idiot who wrote this piece are soooo out of touch with actual viewers; so much so, google DISABLED user reviews which I would venture (based on the positive to this shit post) would be in the 90s. It was an amazing movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time.

This was the worst. The plot had potential it just completely missed. Legitimately one of the worst movies I have ever seen. There was no logic in this film. The script was terrible. To call this a B-rated movie would be an insult to actual B-rated films. I would not recommend that anyone waste their time with this dog shit. Also for the people who liked this, you have to be stupid. Only someone that had below average IQ would find this predictable GARBAGE would find this entertaining.

Stinker. Only likeable character was Butler. He shoulda dropped his wife at her parents and run away forever. All 3 were a horror. Acting sucked. Direction sucked. Music sucked. Totally unbelievable. . Did I mention it sucked?

I really enjoyed this movie! Gerard never stopped until he found his wife! NO matter how many times the cops told him not to move, he NEVER STOPPED SEARCHING!!! This movie keeps you interested. 👍👍👍👍👍

Zero stars. Watched up to police interrogation which was ridiculous. They have the cctv, from the guy who said it was broken, showing who she left with and interrogate the husband instead, probably based on call from the stipud father. At this point I turned it off and checked reviews. I am right it’s an awful movie.

Agreeing with the 6 positive reviews (out of 7) above, I did initially think though that the largest truck trailer at the gas station could’ve been human traficking.

I thought it was EXCELLENT

It’s not up to the critics it’s up to us I loved the movie 👍👍

Really bloody awful film. Forced absolutely horrific acting from Lisa’s parents in particular. Definitely don’t waste your time.

The actions taken by law enforcement, from someone with only vague knowledge watching documentaries is totally unbelievable.

Such a shame butler didn’t have better taste than to be involved in this.

I enjoyed it very much

Speak for yourself dude I don’t think you and I watched the same movie. I really liked it. Definitely makes my top 10. I recommend this to everyone

Karl displaying hypocrisy and a spectacular lack of self awareness there.

The movie is utter shit.

It is a really good movie, I hate this critics thinking that they have the power of the opinion of every person in the world, probably if he was doing weird think whit weird songs they will said omg is the best movie, they always like the most weird and bizarre movies.

This is a good movie, is worth it to watch. Don’t read this nonsense of this “specialist “ is just shtttt

Netflix's Top 10 list has officially proven that critically acclaimed films aren't always the most popular as a new Gerard Butler movie has managed to make it to the streamer's top spot.

Opting to watch a film or TV show from Netflix's Top 10 list can often be an easy way to overcome any difficulties you're having in the decision-making area, but obviously not every title is suited to every viewer.

We all have our preferences when it comes to watching TV - which is why the true crime murder shows aren't always going to go down well with the faint-hearted, but that hasn't stopped series like Dahmer shooting into Netflix's Most Popular.

Check out one of the streamer's latest hits here:

A recent list on Netflix appears to prove that the same can be said for films deemed poor by critics - it doesn't mean people aren't going to tune in.

This month, Gerard Butler's new film Last Seen Alive dropped on to the streamer, telling the story of a man whose soon-to-be ex-wife mysteriously vanishes. Will, played by Butler, is then launched into an investigation of the town's criminal underbelly in an attempt to find her, all while running from the authorities in a race against time.

Last Seen Alive first debuted in June 2022, and some of those who have had the pleasure - or perhaps displeasure - of seeing it didn't have the best reactions.

Last Seen Alive has received very mixed reviews from viewers.

The film has earned a score of just 11 percent on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer , though some of the reviews suggest it shouldn't have even made it that far.

Critic Mark Goodyear wrote: " Last Seen Alive is as generic as it gets and should serve as a warning to anyone looking to cash in without effort with one of cinema’s most overdone plots."

Brian Orndorf commented: "Creative risks aren't taken here, with Butler basically asked to be the hero yet again, trying to convey confusion in a movie that doesn't trust the audience to appreciate such a disorienting journey."

The critics don't speak for everyone though, and after Last Seen Alive arrived on Netflix in the US it quickly made its way to the number one spot of its Top 10 Films. A number of users took to Twitter to voice their praise for the film, and even encouraged others to give it a watch.

One viewer tweeted: " Last Seen Alive is so good on Netflix!" as another wrote: " Last Seen Alive on Netflix! Another good watch!

Obviously, critics know what they're talking about when it comes to films, but that's not to say people still can't enjoy the movies. Check out Last Seen Alive yourself on Netflix now to see whose side you're on.

4 horror movies on Peacock with 85% or higher on Rotten Tomatoes

Big screams on the small screen

Passengers aboard a train in Train to Busan

Peacock is home to plenty of great movies and shows but you might not know that there are some horror gems lurking on one of the best streaming services . Better yet, they’re all highly-rated on Rotten Tomatoes, which is high praise considering that horrors can be very hit and miss in the eyes of the movie gods (aka critics).

Thankfully, I’ve found four that are all certified fresh – it’s a mix of lesser known gems and stone-cold classics, so there’s something for all tastes. We’ve got zombies, chainsaws and creepy twins, which are all staples in the best horror movies and no one does it better than this lineup.

So, if you’re ready to be thoroughly freaked out, take a look at these highly-rated horror movies that are available as part of a Peacock subscription. Don’t have a subscription? You can stream Train to Busan, Dead Ringers and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre on Tubi for free.

Train to Busan

  • RT Score: 95%
  • Age rating: R
  • Length: 1 hour 58 minutes
  • Director: Yeon Sang-ho

Zombies are arguably an overdone trope in horror movies but Train to Busan director Yeon Sang-ho had a genius idea to breathe new life into the genre. Set mostly aboard a train, this gripping South Korean movie focuses on what happens when a zombie infection spreads throughout the carriages, resulting in complete chaos.

It’s a clever way of including claustrophobia too, a common fear that has been depicted in horror movies whether that’s getting trapped in an elevator or buried alive. But there’s something about being stuck on a moving train while more and more people are being turned into zombies that is absolutely terrifying. It’s one way to make your morning commute more exciting, I suppose.

If you loved Train to Busan , check out the animated prequel Seoul Station, which has a 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating, outdoing the first one. That one is available on Prime Video .

  • RT Score: 98%
  • Length: 1 hour 44 minutes
  • Director: Jordan Peele

Get Out is a huge cinematic achievement because it marks Jordan Peele’s directorial debut and is also his highest rated movie to date. The movie sees a young black man named Chris (Daniel Kaluuya), who uncovers some shocking secrets when he meets the family of his white girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams).

With a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score and a Best Original Screenplay win at the Academy Awards, it is widely regarded as one of the best movies of the 21st century. There’s plenty of twists and turns and truly nail biting moments here, and if you haven’t seen the movie yet, I’m actually quite jealous that you’ll get to experience it for the first time.

Dead Ringers

  • RT Score: 85%
  • Length: 1 hour 55 minutes
  • Director: David Cronenberg

If you’re looking for something slightly “weirder” than the other entries, you can always rely on Cronenberg to deliver exactly that. In Dead Ringers , we follow identical twins Elliot and Beverly Mantle, with Jeremy Irons playing both roles. While identical, they have different personalities. One is confident and cynical, and the other is shy and passive, and together they run a successful clinic that specialises in fertility problems.

When an actress named Claire (Geneviève Bujold) arrives at the practice, both men become obsessed with her and end up on a downward spiral including drug abuse, paranoid delusions, and plenty of creepiness. It’s just as unsettling as Cronenberg’s other horror hits The Fly and Videodrome , so this one is well worth your time.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

  • Director: Tobe Hooper

Your journey into the world of horror is not complete without seeing The Texas Chain Saw Massacre . It’s iconic for a reason and is a much loved entry into the slasher subgenre of horror alongside Friday the 13th and Halloween . Leatherface is a popular figurehead in horror and after watching this, you’ll see why. Or perhaps you just fancy revisiting it because you think it’s great, which I’d highly recommend doing.

It’s great to have a classic movie like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre readily available on Peacock and Tubi, and it is far better than horrible reboots and sequels including Netflix ’s latest effort (don’t bother, I’m serious). Nothing beats the original, where we follow five young people on a road trip who soon find themselves fighting for their lives.

She has written several reviews in her time, starting with a small self-ran blog called Lucy Goes to Hollywood before moving onto bigger websites such as What's on TV and What to Watch, with TechRadar being her most recent venture. Her interests primarily lie within horror and thriller, loving nothing more than a chilling story that keeps her thinking moments after the credits have rolled. Many of these creepy tales can be found on the streaming services she covers regularly.

Bottoms Soundtrack Guide: Every Song & When They Play

Dark matter episode 8 ending explained: is that really jason1, upton's exit highlights why chicago pd has been struggling for years now.

  • Ayo Edebiri shines in cult classic teen comedy Bottoms, showcasing her versatility as an actress beyond The Bear's naturalism.
  • Bottoms deserved wider recognition with its successful indie box office performance and critical acclaim for its genre parody.
  • Edebiri's Rotten Tomatoes streak continued with Bottoms, proving her talent in both teen comedies and heartfelt dramedies.

Before The Bear season 3 is released, there is no better time to revisit star Ayo Edebiri’s acclaimed, if under-seen, 2023 comedy Bottoms . The Bear season 3 arrives on June 27 and expectations are high for the critically adored dramedy's third outing. The Bear has launched its stars Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach to new heights, with each of the show’s lead actors signing on to exciting new projects since the series began. Since The Bear season 2’s ending , Jeremy Allen White impressed critics with his central turn in the wrestling biopic The Iron Claw .

Moss-Bachrach, meanwhile, has been cast in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot alongside Stranger Things breakout star Joseph Quinn. However, it is not just the actors from The Bear ’s Berzatto family who are benefiting from the show’s profile boost. Big Mouth star Ayo Edebiri won critical acclaim as Carmy’s ambitious sous chef Sydney, and the actor recently played supporting roles in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and Inside Out 2 . Neither of these were Edebiri’s most acclaimed turn, though. That honor went to a performance that couldn’t have been further in tone from The Bear ’s earnest, heartfelt dramedy.

PJ (Rachel Sennott) and Josie (Ayo Edebiri) scowl while Hazel (Ruby Cruz) stands behind them in Bottoms.

Bottoms was one of the best comedies of 2023, and it wouldn't be the same without the brilliantly chosen songs that soundtracked its key moments.

Ayo Edebiri’s Bottoms Role Proves How Good She Is In The Bear

2023’s anarchic high school comedy is an instant cult classic.

Edebiri starred as an unpopular high school senior in 2023’s teen comedy Bottoms , a raucous, raunchy spoof of 2000s teen movies that was also a loving homage to the genre. Bottoms followed Edebiri’s Josie and Rachel Sennott’s PJ as the pair concocted an absurd scheme to attract popular cheerleaders by setting up an all-female fight club. Bottoms ’ over-the-top parody of teen movie clichés was a critical success , with director Emma Seligman’s movie earning an impressive 90% rating from reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes . Unfortunately, Edebiri’s star vehicle flew under the radar due to its limited release, although it performed well regardless.

Bottoms was deservedly beloved by critics and, with an 89% audience rating, it is fair to say that the movie impressed viewers too. Sadly, although Bottoms kept Edebiri’s incredible Rotten Tomatoes streak alive, Seligman’s comedy inexplicably received limited cinema showings instead of a wide release. Bottoms earned over $11 million at the box office despite playing on less than 2,000 screens, an astounding achievement for an indie comedy made all the more impressive by the timing of its release. Bottoms arrived in late August when the summer blockbuster season was still very much underway, but still carved out a niche.

Bottoms’ RT Score Shows It Deserved A Wider Release

The indie comedy performed exceedingly well.

Bottoms is one of the best teen comedies of the last decade, combining an outlandish satire of the genre’s familiar tropes with a hilarious underdog story. Sennott and Edebiri are both charismatic in their central roles and, even in its most poignant moments, Bottoms never downplays its inherently goofy, cartoony sense of humor. By Bottoms ’ ending , Edebiri's versatility is self-evident. The star is just as at home in the freewheeling, self-referential silliness of the teen comedy as she is in The Bear ’s naturalism. Although The Bear star’s movie wasn’t very widely seen, Bottoms still proved Edebiri has a bright future.

Nicolas Cage's 'Repulsive, Discomforting' Horror Movie Lands Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score

  • Longlegs , with Nicolas Cage as an unrecognizable serial killer, is one of 2024's scariest films per Rotten Tomatoes critics.
  • Director Osgood Perkins drew inspiration from iconic psychological thrillers for Longlegs , with an enigmatic character years in the making.
  • Critics hail Longlegs as magnificent and unsettling; its perfect marketing maintains secrets for a cinematic debut in July 2024.

Nicolas Cage ’s brief blip in his recent run of career-best reviews seems to be well and truly over, as his new horror movie has debuted with a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. Like many of Cage’s recent films, Longlegs is not a big blockbuster by any means, but it is another unexpected offering from the comeback king.

The NEON horror film has made a huge impact thanks to a clever and mysterious marketing campaign . So clever, in fact, that even now as the movie prepares to make its cinema debut, none of the trailers or marketing material has fully revealed Cage’s central serial killer. This is something that is pretty much unheard of in a time when films are well-known for releasing three or four trailers, each revealing more and more of the moments that should be saved for people to see for the first time in theaters.

Longlegs poster

Longlegs follows Maika Monroe's character, FBI recruit Lee Harker, who is assigned to an unresolved case filled with occult clues leading to a twisted and chilling serial killer, played by an unrecognizable Cage. As Harker uncovers clues to the location of the killer, and his next potential victims, she attempts to bring him to justice before he can kill again.

The first reviews from Rotten Tomatoes critics have unanimously hailed the film as one of the darkest and unsettling films of the year, setting the film up to be not only another success for Cage, but for the low-budget horror genre that has been booming with originality over the last few years.

Both Dread Central 's Mary Beth McAndrews and SlashFilm ’s Bill Bria call the movie one of the scariest movies of the year and one of the best films of 2024 so far. IGN Movies ’ Katie Rife adds that the film may feel familiar, but has just enough of Osgood Perkins’ surreal horror to allow it to stand out from the crowd.

Longlegs’ Killer Lurked for Years in Osgood Perkins’ Thoughts

Nicolas Cage Longlegs

Longlegs is one of the few movie releases that is going to arrive in cinemas with all of its secrets intact, having delivered a perfect marketing campaign of vague imagery and only the barest bones of a story. However, in the latest issue of SFX Magazine , Perkins shared some details about the inspiration and development of the movie and its central enigmatic character.

For those reviews making note of a familiarity about the movie, that is not something that will come as a surprise to Perkins. During his interview with the magazine, the director mentioned several prominent dark thrillers that Longlegs harks back to. He said:

“So it’s The Silence of the Lambs but it’s also kind of Zodiac, it’s sort of Seven. There’s kind of a pattern, a cipher, the sort of things you recognize. I’ll say the word Manson early on in the movie, do you know what I mean? You make it fair. But then you do your truth on the other side.”

The 15 Best Horror Movies About Cursed Objects

The 15 Best Horror Movies About Cursed Objects

No matter what form they take, cursed objects sit at the center of classic horror movies. Here are 15 films that utilize these twisted artifacts.

However, anyone thinking that Perkins is simply copying these iconic psychological thrillers couldn’t be more mistaken. As he explained in the interview, shadowy figure played by Cage in Longlegs is one that has been living with him for some time. He explained:

“All writers are the same. We all have a bin, a drawer, a pile of things that are free-floating. One thing that kept floating around was this person. My feeling was that he drove up to people’s houses, where their children had a birthday parties, and he brought something for them, like a little piano or a stuffed animal. He was an entertainer of some kind. This guy kind of sort of sniffed around the edges of various projects. It’s like having a character in a recurring dream, right? It’s like tuning into a radio. This guy kept coming into my channel. You have to listen for the thing, and the thing says ‘Longlegs’ you say, ‘Okay, I agree,’ and then you wonder why it’s Longlegs. And that becomes the work of the creative process. So he came, this guy who did these things. He became someone a cop was chasing.”

Longlegs is certainly shaping up to be one of the most enigmatic and interesting movies of the summer. While it may not be about to compete with the likes of Deadpool & Wolverine for supremacy at the box office, there is little doubt that Longlegs is going to become one of the most talked about releases of 2024 and of Cage’s continued renaissance.

Longlegs is released in cinemas on July 12, 2024.

Longlegs (2024)

A New Nic Cage Horror Movie Just Debuted At 100% On Rotten Tomatoes and I’m Pumped

Longlegs has a fresh Rotten Tomatoes start at 100%!

Nic Cage has come a long way in recent years compared to when he took “crummy” roles in the past. He recently blew critics and audiences away with one of his best performances ever as the star of Dream Scenario. Cage’s luck just keeps getting better as his upcoming serial killer role in Longlegs just debuted with a fresh rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. And I’ve got to say, I’m pumped!

We’ve seen Nicolas Cage play a serial killer-type role before in A24’s Dream Scenario when a huge population of people were dreaming that the same biology professor was killing them in their dreams. But, that was more told in dark humor. Cage was also in the real-life crime film Frozen Ground where he played a state trooper trying to catch a serial killer.

This time around, the Oscar winner will portray a hardcore serial killer in Longlegs and it’s making a very good first impression with critics. Its Rotten Tomatoes rating is currently at 100% which means all of the critics who’ve seen it have said nothing but great things about the upcoming horror film . Now this makes me want to add yet another Nic Cage movie to my watchlist.

With only eight reviews of the horror movie so far, many critics are in agreement that Longlegs is one of the scariest films they’ve seen this year or even within the past decade. Fresh Fiction and Inverse critics commended director Oz Perkins for creating a “cinematic freak-fest forged in Hell” and getting “under your skin.” It looks like Longlegs will give audiences unsettling imagery that will stay with them from the first frame to the last. Now, that’s a true horror film if what you see can give you chills throughout. I’m all for it!

Other than Nicolas Cage, Longlegs also stars Maika Monroe who you may remember from the highly-rated Rotten Tomatoes horror film It Follows . She plays the lead in Longlegs as FBI agent Lee Harker who’s assigned to investigate a serial killer, Longlegs, (played by Cage) only to discover occult evidence and a personal link to the killer.

When you watch the trailer of the upcoming horror-thriller film, you can see what the critics are talking about. You really do see a lot of unsettling imagery without knowing what it all means. I also love that you only see Nic Cage’s character for about a millisecond which helps provide a chilling mystique to the character that’s gonna leave us disturbed. That’s truly the best kind of movie trailer if it can leave you wanting more with the limited startling information it gives you.

It looks like critics are loving Nicolas Cage’s newest horror film Longlegs with its debut at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviews are loving the movie’s ability to “get under your skin” and are hailing it as the scariest film they’ve seen as of late. If you’re racing to see Longlegs as much as I am, make sure to add the 2024 movie release to your watchlist coming to theaters on July 12th.

Nicolas Cage's New Horror Film Debuts With Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score and Stunning Reviews

Recently, Nicolas Cage has been making many critically-acclaimed films. His most recent film, the NEON horror Longlegs ' Rotten Tomatoes score has just debuted and it's impeccable.

Although Longlegs isn't out in theaters yet, the first reviews are in, and were enough to give the upcoming horror a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes . So far, the film has only received nine reviews, but all of them were stunning and encouraging. As new ones come in, Longlegs might not maintain its perfect score, but its initial debut rating is a very strong start.

Stephen King Praises 'Scary' and 'Gross' Horror Movie With Near-Perfect Reviews

A new horror film with a nearly perfect Rotten Tomatoes score has earned an endorsement from genre legend Stephen King.

" Longlegs is one of the scariest and best films of the year , hands down," writes Dread Central 's Mary Beth McAndrews. The sentiment is replicated in other reviews, as well, with Slashfilm 's Bill Bria agreeing that, " It's the most terrifying horror movie of 2024 , a film that gets under your skin and may never get out. "

Other high praise goes to director Osgood Perkins, as Inverse 's Matt Donato notes, " Longlegs is Perkins’ trademark aesthetic at max volume, lingering in your thoughts, under your skin, and in the pit of your stomach well after it’s over. " Katie Rife from IGN Movies notes, " There are moments when Longlegs feels like a movie you’ve seen before, but with an evil filter laid over it : This is both a weakness and a strength, as Perkins’ horror surrealism renders the familiar strange, and the strange familiar."

Longlegs stars Nicolas Cage as a ruthless serial killer. The film will follow horror scream queen Maika Monroe's FBI recruit Lee Harker, who gets assigned an unresolved case and she has to put together a series of occult clues so she can end a terrifying killing spree.

Hit Series With Near-Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score Enters Netflix's Most Popular TV List

This Netflix limited series became a surprising hit, and it reached an important spot in the streamer's popular lists.

Longlegs Director Teased Huge Change for Nicolas Cage in the Horror

The promotional videos for the film have been anxiety-filled, giving very little away while keeping viewers on their toes. The decision to never show Nicolas Cage's bloodthirsty serial killer in the trailer is a very intriguing and unusual idea, only using Cage for a chilling voiceover. The film has The Blackcoat's Daughter 's Osgood Perkins as director and writer, and also stars Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt, and Kiernan Shipka. Perkins also teased the Oscar-winning actor will be "unrecognizable" in the upcoming film.

" We derived the voice of the character, the look of the character, the attitude . What references is Nic going to use in terms of people in his life or other actors? He’s very upfront that he pulls from other people a lot. So which other person is he going to do?" Osgood Perkins tells SFX magazine (via GamesRadar). " By the time he gets to the set he’s unrecognizable. He doesn’t sound like himself, he doesn’t walk like himself. So you have this element, like wind or fire, but it’s Nicolas Cage as your character."

Longlegs is set to premiere on July 12, 2024.
