After seeing the Okkadu poster in the background, it’s crazy to transport yourself back to 2004 where this came out January 17th and then a few months later Ghilli would be released. All treading on the similar beat of young girl being rescued by the hero from a mustache twirling villain (funny to see our beloved oomf, Prakash Raj in all three films). 

I think just in general this has all the hallmarks of what I love about young Prabhas films. He is very energetic, sweet, and silly. Amazing songs and his dance steps are always so fun.  He really is such a good match with Trisha (Bujjigadu also so cute with them but terrified to complete Pournami).  Absolutely so…

Maybe it’s the chemistry with Trisha here, but Prabhas is so much more interesting to me as a gentle giant lover. He feels expressive in a way that he doesn’t really get to be when he’s doing the typical mass hero machismo (though there’s still some of that here too, which is what keeps this from being a 5/5 to me really). 

And as much as I think Mani Sharma is the GOAT Telugu composer this is still my favourite soundtrack in a Telugu film. Perhaps because it taps into more melodic pieces which is where DSP truly shines. But like the music, the camerawork with its wild dutch angles & POV shots, the performances from both leads all feel so dynamic and soulful that it really turns what could be a simple masala flick into a beautiful romance <3

18 years of VARSHAM : That inexplicable joy of watching your home location or the place you have been so many times to on the big screen - Varsham gave me that feeling for the first time in my life when rain united Venkat and Shailu in Veyyi Stambhaala Gudi (Thousand Pillars Temple)! Lived in Warangal for the first 8 years of my life from 1997 to 2005 and oh whattaa feeling to have watched this film for Sankranthi on an evening show at Sridevi theatre and going to the temple the next day in the excitement of watching it again freshly with the memories of "Mellagaa Karagani" song... but have to admit that it spoiled me for life as whenever…

So I watched like 40% of the HD version and then went outside during the rainstorm and listened to 100% of the soundtrack while walking and dancing in the rain and puddles so I will say I def watched and thought a lot about this movie.

This felt pretty familiar from go but it took until the train station bit for me to fully realize that Baaghi was a remake.

It's an interesting case where if you could Frankenstein the two versions together, you'd have a near-perfect movie, but either alone is just pretty good. This version mostly has the better cast*--and Baaghi even has a pretty good one, but the cast without Trisha Krishnan, Sunil Varma, and Prakash Raj in it is generally going to lose these kind of comps--as well as a stronger romance arc, script, and soundtrack. But for a movie that really wants to spend about…

Mammootty's much awaited movie of the year "Varsham" has opened in theatres with a bang. The film has managed to impress critics and is now reviewed as one of the best Mammootty starrer.

Most of the reviewers claim that the performances of the actors carry "Varsham" from beginning till the end. The direction, scripting and screenplay by Ranjith Sankar have received positive reviews.

The story of "Varsham" revolves around Venu, who runs a private money lending company and leads a happy family life. Unlike other money lenders, Venu has a good reputation because of his goodwill and his popularity has also earned enmity among other money lenders. One unfortunate incident turns Venu's life upside down and the rest of the film talks about how Venu handles the situation, which is filled with complexities.

"Varsham" also has Asha Sarath, Master Prajwal Prasad, Mamta Mohandas, Govind Padmasurya, Sunil Sugatha, Sudhir Karamana, Harish Perady, Jayaraj Warrier, Irshad, Sajitha Madathil, Sarayu, Shivaji Guruvayoor, Sreelatha Namboothiri, Vinod Kovoor and Shabin in pivotal roles.

Varsham is a 2004 Telugu-language romantic action movie that was produced by M.S. Raju under the Sumanth Art Productions label, directed by Sobhan, and starred Prabhas, Trisha, and Gopichand. Devi Sri Prasad provided the soundtrack for the movie. The movie was remade in Tamil as Mazhai (2005), Odia as Barsa My Darling (2004), and Hindi as Baaghi (2016).

Plot: An unemployed young man named Venkat meets a middle-class beauty named Sailaja on a train, and after dancing in a downpour, they become attracted to one another right away. Sailaja also captures the attention of Bhadranna, a cunning and deadly politician who has developed feelings for her. Every time it rains, Venkat continues running into Sailaja, and the two fall in love. Sailaja’s father, Ranga Rao, is a typical black sheep with a lot of undesirable habits. Ranga Rao accepts Bhadranna’s proposal to marry him after jumping at the chance. Later, a movie producer named Seenayya comes to Ranga Rao and offers Sailaja a role in a film.

Ranga Rao believes that her career as a movie actor would be more lucrative than her engagement to Bhadranna. He persuades Sailaja to act in a movie, then effectively foments disputes between lovers before heading into the city with her. Venkat departs for his uncle’s home in Vizag as well. Sailaja becomes a movie star in Vizag, and Venkat works alongside his uncle as a demolition specialist in a quarry. A few months later, after Ranga Rao has defrauded Bhadranna of some money, he discovers Sailaja’s current residence, kidnaps her, and attempts to convince her not to marry him. Ranga Rao tells Seenayya to approach Venkat because he thinks Venkat still has feelings for Sailaja. Seenayya becomes anxious because the shooting was stopped.

With Bhadranna, Venkat battles for Sailaja and concurs. Sailaja eventually realizes that she misunderstood Venkat and expresses her regret. They joyously make up, and both of them begin dating once more. Bhadranna kills his brother Kaasi that evening because he failed to bring Sailaja. From Hyderabad, Bhadranna is returning to kill Venkat and wed Sailaja. Bhadranna attempts to stab Venkat at the event but is stopped by his uncle Sivayya. Venkat defeats Bhadranna and congratulates Sailaja and Venkat’s allies after the fight. Bhadranna briefly regains consciousness before being crushed under the burning statue of Ravana and losing his life. In the film’s climax, Sailaja and Venkat reconcile.

Varsham: Looking back at the Prabhas, Trisha starrer as it hits theatres again

Here’s some good news for Prabhas’ die-hard fans. The pan-Indian star’s blockbuster Varsham, which gave a terrific push to his career in his early years, is re-releasing in theatres across the Telugu states this weekend. Directed by Shobhan, (father of actors Santosh Shobhan and Sangeeth Shobhan), the action romance also stars Trisha, Gopichand, Prakash Raj, Sunil and others in significant roles. The film, produced by MS Raju under Sumanth Art Creations, has a career-best album by Devi Sri Prasad.

The story of Varsham revolves around Venkat (Prabhas) and Sailaja (Trisha), youngsters from Warangal who fall in love. Bhadranna (Gopichand) is a ruthless landlord who also likes Sailaja and is keen on marrying her. Ranga Rao (Prakash Raj), Sailaja's father, doesn’t mind getting his daughter married to Bhadranna for money. He purposely wreaks havoc on the relationship between Venkat and Sailaja. While Bhadranna kidnaps Sailaja soon, the plot is all about how Venkat comes to Sailaja’s rescue in the need of the hour.

One can notice the tender, softer side of Prabhas in the first hour of this film. He is at ease balancing the romance, humour and action segments of the film. It’s hard to ignore his spontaneity even in a handful of casual sequences. Trisha’s presence, without a doubt, is a huge bonus to the film. Not only is she beautiful, but also excels in her natural performance. She’s at her best in the dance sequences – can we ever outgrow Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana?

Varsham is testimony to Gopichand’s effortlessness in playing a baddie like Bhadranna. Prakash Raj is apt as a crooked father who prioritises his benefits over his daughter's future. Shafi is particularly brilliant as a loyal step-brother of Gopichand, while Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao fits the bill in a supporting role. Sunil and Rajesh deliver what’s expected of them. Meanwhile, did you get to notice producer MS Raju in a special role too?

The story by Veeru Potla is nothing out-of-the-box and is a regular love triangle centring on the hero, heroine and villain. However, the Warangal backdrop and the rain playing a messenger between the lovers add variety to the storytelling. The striking resemblance to N Chandra's Tezaab with a few elements from the Ramayana is quite evident. The characters of Prabhas, Trisha, Gopichand and Prakash Raj resemble Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Kiran Kumar and Anupam Kher respectively.

While Varsham’s screenplay progresses smoothly in the first half, thanks to the superb treatment, the narrative doesn't progress on expected lines in the latter hour. The crux of Varsham’s story is narrated in a flashback. The visualisation of a handful of shots has a poetic touch, especially with the heroine's introduction sequence. It’s hard to dispute the credentials of Shobhan as a director, but he struggles to sustain the momentum of the film when the lead pair parts ways.

Devi Sri Prasad’s music is the lifeline of the film. The background score is a treat to the senses and it’s impossible to imagine Varsham without his soulful, melodious album. The cinematography by S Gopal Reddy is another major asset to the film – the songs shot amidst nature make their way into the story beautifully. For a film that’s an ode to nature, Shobhan and Gopal Reddy’s efforts to lend a raw, organic quality to the visuals deserve praise.

Warangal has a character of its own in Varsham and to Shobhan’s credit, he establishes all four major characters well. In addition to Prabhas’ persona, Varsham is still special because of Trisha’s screen presence, the out-of-the-world music and its cinematography. The second hour of Varsham hasn’t aged well with time. “అలవైకుంఠపురములో” తర్వాత త్రివిక్రమ్ దర్శకుడిగా ముందుకొచ్చింది ఈ “గుంటూరు కారం” తోనే. పండగ సీజన్లో నెంబర్ వన్ చాయిస్ గా నిలబడ్డ ఈ చిత్రంపై చాలా అంచనాలున్నాయి. ఎంతవరకు అందుకుందో చూద్దాం. 

రమణ (మహేష్ బాబు) గుంటూరులో ఒక మిల్లు ఓనర్. అతని తండ్రి (జయరాం). తల్లి (రమ్యకృష్ణ) మాత్రం తనని, తన భర్తని వదిలేసి వేరేవ్యక్తిని (రావు రమేష్) పెళ్లి చేసుకుంటుంది. ఆమెకి అక్కడొక కొడుకు (రాహుల్ రవీంద్రన్) కూడా ఉంటాడు. దానికి కారణమేంటో కథాగమనంలో తెలుస్తుంటుంది.

ఇదిలా ఉంటే రమణ తల్లికి తండ్రి అయిన వైరా వెంకటస్వామి (ప్రకాష్ రాజ్) రమణని పిలిపించి కొన్ని కాగితాల మీద సంతకం పెట్టమంటాడు. తనకి, తన తల్లి ఆస్తికి ఎటువంటి సంబంధం లేదనేది ఆ కాగితాల్లోని సారాంశం.

ఈ సంతకం సేకరణ బాధ్యతని బసవరాజు సారంగపాణి (మురళీశర్మ) అనే తన సొంత లాయర్ కి అప్పగిస్తాడు వెంకటస్వామి ఈ సారంగపాణి కూతురు ఆముక్తమాల్యద (శ్రీలీల). ఈ క్రమంలో రమణ, ఆముక్తమాల్యద మధ్యలో రొమాన్స్ నడుస్తుంటుంది.

అసలు రమణకి, తల్లికి మధ్యన గ్యాప్ ఎందుకొచ్చింది? రమణ కాగితాల మీద సంతకం పెడతాడా? పెడితే ఏవిటి? ఎక్కడా ఉత్కంఠత లేని ఈ కథకి ముగింపు ఎక్కడ? ఈ ప్రశ్నలకి సమధానమే తక్కిన కథనం. 

సాధారణంగా ఏ కమర్షియల్ సినిమా అయినా గాడిలోనే ఉందా లేక తేడా కొట్టబోతోందా అనే సూచన సుమారు ఇరవై నిమిషాలు చూస్తే తెలుస్తుంటుంది. కానీ ఇక్కడ దర్శకుడు త్రివిక్రమ్ కాబట్టి “తేడా” సూచన వచ్చినా మైండ్ వెంటనే యాక్సెప్ట్ చేయదు. ఏ మలుపులోనో అద్భుతం కోసం  వేచి చూడడం ఆయన మీద నమ్మకమున్న సగటు ప్రేక్షకుడు చేసే పని. 

అయితే ఎంత సేపైనా తెర మీద జరుగుతున్న కథేంటో, ఆ పాత్రలేంటో, వాళ్ల ఎమోషన్స్ ఏంటో అర్ధమయ్యీ అవ్వకుండా సాగుతుంటాయి. దీనికి తోడు హీరో అసలు ఎవరితో ఎందుకు ఫైట్ చేస్తున్నాడో అర్ధం కాదు. హీరో రౌడీల్ని కొడుతుంటే ఆ రౌడీల మీద సానుభూతి కలిగేలా ఉన్నాయి సన్నివేశాలు. ఎందుకంటే అసలు వాళ్లు అంతలా తన్నులు తినేంతగా ఏం చేసారో ఆడియన్స్ కి సింకవ్వదు. 

ఫస్టాఫ్ అంతా హీరో కొన్ని కాగితాల మీద పెట్టాల్సిన సంతకం చుట్టూ తిరుగుతుంది. ఆ ట్రాక్ ఎప్పుడు ముగుస్తుందో తెలీక, కథ ముందుకి నడవక, ఒక దశలో తెరలోకి వెళ్లి హీరో కాళ్లు పట్టుకునైనా “ఆ సంతకమేదో పెట్టేయవయ్యా…దాదాపు ఇంటర్వల్ టైమొచ్చేసింది” అని ప్రాధేయపడాలనిపిస్తుంది సగటు ప్రేక్షకుడికి.  

సెకండాఫైనా గ్రిప్పింగ్ గా ఉంటుందా అంటే అదీ అంతే. తల్లీకొడుకుల మధ్యలో ఈక్వేషన్ తేల్చడానికే సరిపోయిందంతా. ఏ సినిమాకైనా క్లైమాక్స్ కీలకం. ఆఖరి 10 నిమిషాల్లోనైనా విషయముందా అంటే అక్కడా ఏమీ కనపడదు. 

త్రివిక్రమ్ అంటే కేవలం దర్శకుడు కాదు. మాటల మాంత్రికుడని బ్రాండ్. అసలిందులో మాటలు రాసింది ఈయనేనా లేక ఈయన బద్ధకిస్తే ఇంకెవ్వరో రాసారా అనే డౌటొస్తుంది. ఒక్కటంటే ఒక్క మెరుపులాంటి డైలాగ్ కూడా లేదు. 

“ఈ ఇంట్లో గుడ్లు మీరు పెడుతున్నారో కోళ్లు పెడుతున్నాయో తెలీడం లేదు” లాంటి డైలాగ్ ఎందుకు రాసాడో కూడా అర్ధం కాదు. 

“అతను రాయల్ సత్యం.. బ్లాక్ అండ్ వైటు.. వీడు కలరు. సినిమా స్కోపు.. సెవెంటి ఎం ఎం” అనే డైలాగొచ్చినప్పుడు ప్రేక్షకులు కుక్కినపేనుల్లా సైలెంటుగా ఉన్నారంటే అర్ధం చేసుకోవచ్చు ఎంత బ్యాడ్ టైమింగులో ఉన్నాయో మాటలు. 

అస్సలు విషయం లేని డైలాగ్స్ కి కూడా పవర్ఫుల్ బ్యాక్ గ్రౌండ్ స్కోర్ కొట్టి పెట్టాడు తమన్. భాష రాని ప్రేక్షకుడు చూస్తే ఆ సౌండుకి నిజంగానే అందులే ఏదో పవర్ఫుల్ డైలాగ్ ఉందనుకుంటాడు పాపం. 

తమన్ అందించిన నేపథ్య సంగీతం మాత్రం బాగుంది. పాటల్లో బాగా ప్రాచుర్యం పొందిన “కుర్చీ మడతపెట్టి…” మంచి ఊపునిచ్చింది. అప్పటికే నీరసించిన కథనంతో నిట్టూరుస్తున్న ప్రేక్షకులకి కాస్త టానిక్ ఇచ్చినట్టయ్యింది. “మామా ఎంతైనా…” పాట రాంగ్ టైములో వచ్చి అనవసరమనిపిస్తుంది. సాంకేతికంగా ఏ ఇతర విభాగమూ వంకపెట్టేలా లేదు. అన్ని సక్రమంగా పని చేసాయి ఒక్క కథ, కథనం తప్ప. 

మహేష్ బాబు కొత్త లుక్ పరంగా పర్ఫెక్ట్ గా ఉన్నాడు. ఎక్కడా రిజర్వ్డ్ గా కనపడకుండా మంచి ఈజ్ తో యాక్టివ్ గా చేసాడు. ఇతని కమిట్మెంటుకి సరైన స్క్రిప్ట్ కూడా తోడయ్యుంటే బాగుండేది. 

శ్రీలీల అందంగా కనిపిస్తూనే డాన్సింగ్ స్టార్ అనిపించుకుంది. అయితే ఆమె డబ్బింగ్ ఆర్టిస్టుని పెట్టుకోకపోతే కష్టం. ఈమెకి డ్యాన్స్ ఎంత ప్లస్సో, వాయిస్ అంత మైనస్. సమంత కెరీర్ కి చిన్మయి వాయిస్ ప్లస్ అయినట్టు శ్రీలీలకి కూడా ప్రొఫెషనల్ డబ్బింగ్ అర్టిష్ట్ అవసరముంది. 

మీనాక్షి కూడా చూడ్డానికి బాగుంది కానీ ఆమె పాత్రకి దశ, దిశ లేవు. హీరోకి మందు ఇవ్వడానికి, అన్నం వడ్డించడానికి, ఒక సీన్లో ఒళ్లు పట్టడానికి ఉందంతే. 

ప్రకాష్ రాజ్ ఎనభై ఏళ్ల వృద్ధుడి పాత్రలో “ది బెస్ట్” అనిపించున్నాడు. ఈ తరహా మెథడ్ యాక్టింగ్ ఆయనకి కొత్తకాదు. 

రమ్యకృష్ణ పాత్రకి బిల్డప్ ఉందికానీ డెప్త్ లేదు. పైగా కథంతా నడిపింది ఆమెనే అన్నట్టుగా ఉంటుంది. ఆమె ఎమోషన్ ఏంటో, చేసిందేంటో ఆడియన్స్ ని అంతగా తాకదు. 

జయరాం పాత్రంతా ఒక ఇంటికి, గదికి పరిమితమయినట్టుగా ఉంది. 

మురళీశర్మ చాలా సినిమాల్లోలాగానే ఇందులో కూడా తనవైన మ్యానరిజం తో కనిపించాడు. 

ఈశ్వరీరావు ఓకే. వెన్నెల కిషోర్ ట్రాక్ బాగానే ఉంది. అజయ్ క్యారెక్టర్ చిన్నదే అయినా కాసేపు నవ్వించేలా ఉంది. అజయ్ ఘోష్, రవిశంకర్ తమ తమ పాత్రల్లో ఓకే అనిపించారు. సునీల్ సినిమా మొదట్లో ఒక్కటంటే ఒక్క సీన్లో కనిపించి మాయమయ్యాడు. 

ఇది త్రివిక్రమ్ సినిమాలా అనిపించదు. ఏదో ఫ్లాపైన శ్రీకాంత్ అడ్డాల చిత్రంలో డైలాగ్స్ లాగ, ఏదో సరిగ్గా ఆడని బోయపాటి సినిమాలో ఫైట్స్ లాగ, ఎవరో ఎమెచ్యూర్ దర్శకుడి సినిమాల్లో అర్ధాంతరంగా వచ్చే పాటల్లాగ అనిపిస్తూ త్రివిక్రమ్  ఒరిజినల్ పనితనం ఎక్కడుందో వెతుక్కోవాల్సిన పరిస్థితి. 

తలలో సరుకు లేని విద్యార్థి ఫెయిలైనా మాస్టర్లకి అంత కోపం రాకపోవచ్చు. కానీ ఫస్ట్ ర్యాంక్ కొట్టే సత్తా ఉన్నవాడు సరిగ్గా స్కోర్ చేయకపోతే మాత్రం చాలా చిరాకుగా ఉంటుంది. ఇక్కడ త్రివిక్రమ్ ఫస్ట్ ర్యాంక్ విద్యార్థి, ప్రేక్షకులు మాస్టర్లు. ఇంతకంటే చెప్పడానికేం లేదు దర్శకుడి గురించి. 

తల-తోక లేకుండా అమ్మ-కొడుకు సెంటిమెంటు పెట్టుకుని క్లైమాక్స్ “అత్తారింటికి దారేది” లో అత్త-మేనల్లుడు ట్రాకులాగ పాసైపోతుందని అనుకుంటే అంతకంటే పొరపాటు మరొకటి ఉండదు. ఒకసారి తీసేసింది ఎంత గొప్పగా ఉన్నా మళ్లీ తీస్తే కాలం చెల్లిన సరుకు లాగ, భావదారిద్ర్యం లాగ కొడుతుంది తప్ప ప్రేక్షకుల నుంచి మంచి మార్కులు పడవు. 

సినిమా ఇంకా అరగంట ఉందనగా “ఎప్పుడవ్వుద్దిరా బాబూ” అని హాల్లో వెనుకనుంచి ఒక ప్రేక్షకుడు అరుస్తూ నిట్టూర్చాడంటే పరిస్థితి అర్ధం చేసుకోవచ్చు. 

పండగ సీజన్లో ఫుల్ డోస్ వినోదం లభిస్తుందని వేచి చూసిన అన్ని వర్గాల ప్రేక్షకులకి నిరాశని మిగిల్చే చిత్రమిది. గుంటూరు కారం మంచి స్పైసీగా ఉంటుందని వెళితే అది కళ్లల్లో పడినట్టయ్యింది.

'Varshangalkku Shesham' Review: What's Good, What's Bad; Find Out From Viewers' Words

Two years after 'Hridayam', Pranav Mohanlal is back with his latest venture 'Varshangalkku Shesham'. He has collaborated with Vineeth Sreenivasan again.

The movie has Dhyan Sreenivasan and Kalyani Priyadarshan in the female leads. Aju Varghese, Basil Joseph, Neeraj Madhav, Shaan Rahman, YG Mahendran, Neeta Pillai and others in the supporting cast. The movie has Amrit Ramnath's music, Viswajith Odukkathil's cinematography and Ranjan Abraham's editing.

'Varshangalkku Shesham' Story

The film follows the journey of two friends, Murali and Venu, whose aspirations lead them on distinct paths. While Venu is passionate about theater and dreams of making a mark in that field, Murali's ambition lies in becoming an independent musician. Despite their divergent approaches to life, both friends share a common desire to pursue their passions, forcing them to relocate to Madras. What happens in their friendship for the four decades form the crux of the story.

'Varshangalkku Sesham' Review

'Varshangalkku Sesham' offers a cinematic journey that unfolds in two distinct halves, each with its own narrative flavour and impact.

The first half of the film transports viewers back in time, evoking a theatrical ambience marked by melodramatic dialogues and vivid character portrayals. While this segment risks the possibility of veering into self-indulgence, it sets the stage for a comprehensive exploration of the storyline.

However, the second half of the film is thoroughly enjoyable. Here, the performances, particularly by Basil Joseph, Aju Varghese, and the standout portrayal by Nivin Pauly, infuse the film with humour, introspection, and a deeper contemplation of the entertainment industry's dynamics. Nivin Pauly's adept handling of various career challenges, from paving his own path to navigating through body shaming and trolling, is commendably transformed into elements of levity, eliciting genuine laughter from the audience.

Amrit Ramnath's musical compositions strike a fine balance between nostalgic undertones and contemporary beats, further enhancing the audience's engagement with the unfolding events.

As far as the performances are concerned, Pranav shines in his youthful avatar but his acting in the salt-and-avatar look is not up to the mark. However, Dhyan's emotive portrayal, contributes to the film's overall appeal.

Can Nani Score in Those Markets This Time?

Nani has a solid fan base in the Telugu states and the North American market.

He is one of the few Telugu stars to have multiple films that have grossed over one million and two million dollars in North America.

He doesn't have a significant market outside of the Telugu states in India. However, this hasn't deterred him.

He has consistently released his movies by dubbing them into languages like Tamil, Kannada, Hindi, and Malayalam.

He has been aggressively promoting the dubbed versions of "Saripodhaa Sanivaaram" in the respective states.

He actively promoted the Tamil version in Chennai and traveled to Mumbai and the northern regions of India to promote the Hindi version.

He also met Shiv Rajkumar, a popular Kannada star, and enlisted him to do a promotional interview for the Kannada version of “Saripodhaa Sanivaaram."

So far, so good. But the question is, can he break into the pan-Indian market, or is he just spending the producer's money on promotions without achieving significant benefits?
