Resume Worded

Targeted resume - free ats checker, target your resume to a job, instantly, our free ai tool shows you the important skills your resume is missing . quickly tailor your resume for any job, beat the applicant tracking systems (ats), and increase your chances of getting interviews..

Current review of Score My Resume

The only resume builder focused on content

The importance of keywords on your resume.

keywords on your resume. --> --> read your resume. --> Recruiters and hiring managers spend an average of six seconds on each resume. Let's face it - they don't read your resume. They skim it quickly for keywords to get a sense of if you're a good fit or not. For example, if you're applying for a Customer Service job that needs some experience, recruiters are going to make sure you have some customer service experience by quickly scanning your resume for the keywords 'customer service' or 'customer support'. If your resume contains the keywords that were in the job description, it suggests you have the skills the job requires and that it is a well targeted resume.

How to get past Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS)

Most companies use resume screening software, or Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), to quickly filter and rank the thousands of applicants that apply to each job. These software rank your resume based on its relevancy to the job description. They do this by scanning your resume for specific skills and keywords. If your resume doesn't have critical keywords (like 'customer support' in the example above), your resume will be instantly rejected. To ensure your resume gets past ATS, you need to include the right keywords employers are looking for. Here's where Targeted Resume comes in handy - it is a resume keyword scanner that analyzes your resume's keywords and ensures you have covered the most important keywords. After you find the missing skills, use the tool's AI features which will show you how to write professional lines and bullet points that contain the skills your resume is missing. And it's all for free.

Compare your resume to a job posting

With Targeted Resume, you can instantly check if your resume contains all the right skills and keywords. It works by comparing your resume to the job description and finding important keywords you missed out from your resume. Keep in mind that no two jobs are exactly the same, even if they have the same job title. Some jobs might prioritize specific skills over others. This is where Targeted Resume is especially useful - it allows you to compare your resume to as many job descriptions as you apply to . When you analyze a job posting, the tool calculates a comparison score to help you understand if your resume is well-matched to the job posting. In the tool, we refer to this as the "Relevancy Score." A score lower than 80 suggests that your resume is missing important skills from the job posting and is not matched to the job you are applying to.

Recruiters and hiring managers are looking for specific keywords on your resume.

--> read your resume.

Similarly, pretty much every company uses some kind of resume screening software, called Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), to quickly filter and rank the thousands of applicants that apply to each job. These software rank your resume based on its relevancy to the job description. In other words, ATS quickly scan your resume for specific keywords that were in the job description. If your resume doesn't have critical keywords (like 'customer support' in the example above), your resume will be instantly rejected. That's why Targeted Resume was created. It helps you identify the right skills and keywords that these applicant tracking systems are looking for. It also tells you the exact ATS keywords to include on your resume to increase your resume's relevancy and ensure you get past ATS software. And it's all for free.

The importance of a targeted resume

The higher your resume's relevancy, the more your resume is well targeted to the job description. The more targeted your resume is, the better chance you have to get past the initial ATS filter and get an interview.

Proven to get more interviews. For free.

Get past ats robots.

Instantly find out the resume or CV keywords and hard skills companies are looking for. We'll tell you what keywords ATS software are looking for, as well as which ones your resume is missing.

Tailor your resume in minutes

Customizing your resume for every job has always been a tedious, time consuming exercise. Until now. With our free ATS scanner and matcher, you'll instantly know what skills your resume is missing.

Compare your resume to the job description

Most people don't even look closely at the job description they apply to, submit the same resume, and wonder why they don't get interviews. We'll tell you exactly what the job is looking for, including the soft skills, as well as use AI to give you lines you can copy-and-paste into your resume.

How do you target your resume to a job description?

Before Targeted Resume, you'd have to spend hours comparing each job description to your resume to find the right keywords you need to include and then look for the ones your resume is missing. With our resume keyword scanner, you can now tailor your resume to a job description in less than 30 seconds. Simply add in the job description you're applying to and upload your resume, and our algorithms will tell you exactly what important keywords your resume is missing. These keywords are also the ones Applicant Tracking Systems are specifically searching for on your resume. Compare To See How Your Resume Ranks Against Any Job Description with Jobscan

jobscan-featured-image

Jobscan is a tool that gives job seekers an instant analysis of how well their resume is tailored for a particular job, along with how it can be even better optimized for an applicant tracking system (also known as an ATS).

In a nutshell, you paste your resume text into Jobscan and also the job description of the role you are applying for. Jobscan will analyse your resume text against the job description and score your resume match rate for the role out of 100.

I tried an example for my resume and found the results to be quite eye-opening.

Jobscan match rate

The resume match rate is a score, on a scale of 0 to 100 percent, of how well your resume matches up with the job description you selected. Jobscan recommends aiming for a match rate of 80 percent. On the match rate chart (see the first image in this post), the light blue represents the words used on your resume, and the black represents the words used in the job description.

Your match rate is based on these four priorities, in order:

  • Hard skills
  • Education level (only when an advanced degree is included in the job description)
  • Soft skills
  • Other one-word keywords

Resume word count, job description word count, and measurable results are not factored into the match rate.

Why resume optimization matters

The more effectively you can tailor your resume for a specific job, the better your chances are. Generic resumes are a dime a dozen, and unlikely to do well in an ATS. Using Jobscan’s resume analysis tool, you can easily optimize your resume and make yourself a top candidate.

Compare your resume v/s job description

You can take Jobscan for a free test drive . Use the widget below to either scan your resume for a prospective job description.

Or alternatively, you can click on the “Try sample resume and job” to see a sample resume text and job description and on clicking scan you will see how the results actually look like.

27 Great Resume Summary Examples to Get Hired

20 min read ¡ Updated on June 03, 2024

Marsha Hebert

Your resume summary is the first impression you make on potential employers, so it's crucial to get it right

When it comes to job applications, your resume is often the first point of contact with prospective employers. It's essential to make a good impression right from the start and that's where your resume summary comes in. Your summary is a brief statement at the top of your resume that highlights your skills , experiences , and achievements , making it a key part of your job application.

In this article, you'll learn how to write the ultimate resume summary that will grab the attention of recruiters and hiring managers. You'll discover what makes a good summary and what to avoid, as well as how to sell yourself effectively to potential employers.

You may be wondering: what exactly is a resume summary and how do I write one? We'll answer these questions and provide examples of professional summaries for various industries.

By the end of this article, you'll have a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to create a standout resume summary that will help you to land your dream job.

What is a resume summary?

To understand a resume summary, it's important to understand the challenge that good summaries are designed to overcome. Employers who are looking for new hires often need to compare many dozens or even hundreds of resumes to find the best candidates for the job. Few hiring personnel have the time needed to thoroughly examine every single resume that they receive.

Instead, employers typically spend no more than five or six seconds scanning any given resume. If a resume manages to capture their interest in those few seconds, they'll take the time to read it in greater detail.

However, if your resume doesn't grab their attention, it's likely to be rejected without any further examination. So, the challenge is to find a way to quickly earn the reader's interest and inspire them to read the rest of the document.

That's where your resume summary comes into play. As you'll see from our resume summary examples, a good summary is the resume equivalent of a salesperson's elevator pitch.

This brief statement should highlight your experience and job title, one or two key skills, and a couple of your most prominent achievements. When your summary is crafted well, it will provide the employer with a quick overview of your potential value as a new hire.

Once you've written your summary, you should place it right after your contact information and resume headline , so that it's the first thing employers see. If you've done your job properly, that summary will be compelling enough to make the reader want to learn more about the type of value you can bring to the job.

How should you start a resume summary?

After your headline, you should include a brief opening statement that summarizes who you are. This statement should be concise and compelling, and it should clearly communicate your unique value proposition. Here are some examples of strong opening statements:

Innovative Marketing Manager with over five years of experience in developing and executing successful campaigns for Fortune 500 companies

Results-driven Sales Executive with a proven track record of exceeding revenue targets and building strong client relationships

Skilled Customer Service Representative with expertise in problem-solving, conflict resolution, and communication

Tips for writing a resume summary

To make sure you get your summary spot on, follow our top tips:

Be specific

When writing a resume summary, it's essential to be specific and quantify your achievements wherever possible. Instead of saying, "Experienced marketing professional," try saying, "Experienced marketing professional with expertise in managing successful social media campaigns, resulting in increases of up to 30% in website traffic."

This provides concrete evidence of your skills and demonstrates your value to potential employers.

Reflect on your career

When it comes to writing a strong resume summary, you should engage in some self-reflection. Before putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard), take some time to think about your key skills, experiences, and achievements. This will help you to identify the most important information to include in your summary. Review your past roles, responsibilities, and accomplishments, and think about how they relate to the job you're applying for. Ask yourself:

What have I achieved in my career?

What skills have I developed?

What makes me stand out from other applicants?

Identify your key skills

One of the most important things to include in your resume summary is your key skills. These are the abilities that set you apart from other candidates and demonstrate your value to potential employers. Begin by making a list of your top skills, then prioritize them based on relevance to the job you're applying for.

Highlight your relevant experiences

Next, think about relevant experiences that you can include in your summary. This includes any previous jobs or internships, volunteer work, or extracurricular activities that have given you valuable experience. Consider what you've learned and achieved in each role and how that relates to the job you're applying for.

You should focus on what is most relevant to your target job. Here are some examples:

Proven ability to increase sales revenue by 20% year on year

Expertise in project management and team leadership

Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft 365

Confident working with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders

Keep it concise

Remember, your resume summary should be concise and to the point. Stick to the most important information and avoid filler words or irrelevant details. A good rule of thumb is to keep your summary to 3-5 sentences.

Use action verbs

When describing your experiences and achievements, use strong action verbs and adverbs to convey a sense of accomplishment and momentum. For example, instead of saying, "Responsible for managing social media accounts," say, "Successfully manages social media accounts."

Quantify your achievements

Wherever possible, use numbers and statistics to quantify your achievements. This provides concrete evidence of your skills and demonstrates your value to potential employers. For example, instead of saying, "Helped to increase sales," say, "Helped to increase sales by 20% in the first year."

Tailor it to the job

Make sure your resume summary is tailored to the job you're applying for. This means highlighting the skills and experiences that are most relevant to the role. Look at the job description and identify the key requirements, and then make sure your summary addresses these points.

Free resume checker: grade & score your expected performance

Susan Shor

The advice within our career specific resume guides and resume examples will lead you through the process of developing an excellent resume, but there’s an extra step you can take to pinpoint any areas you can hone to increase the chances you’ll get the interview you desire. Resume.io offers a free resume checker to test your resume and pinpoint the areas that can be optimized to increase your chances of landing interviews.

Within this blog, we will discuss:

Why targeted resumes are the key to a successful job hunt

Benefits of a resume grader, how to use our resume checker, understanding your resume score.

  • Enhancing your resume

Let’s dive in.

Undoubtedly, you’ve received more spam than you can count. Most likely, you’ve trashed it or  ignored it. An untargeted resume is just like spam to recruiters—if it even makes it past the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) algorithms and into their hands.

A targeted resume says that you care about the job and are willing to make the effort to get it. It also says that you understand the skills and requirements of the job and believe that you have them. If you have begun your job hunt, you should be doing this already. But you can go the extra mile.

Instead of analyzing the job listing and trying your best to include keywords and phrases that focus your resume, you can use a resume checker to score your application document against others and against the specific job listing.

Why bother getting a resume score, especially after you’ve followed expert advice on creating your application? Using every tool at your disposal can only help your chances of impressing the recruiter—or even getting to the point that a human vets your candidacy. In your current position, you aim to do the best job possible by taking advantage of equipment, software, colleagues, and any other resources at hand. The same should be true in your job search.

Just like you should not send your resume out without careful proofreading, preferably by a different set of eyes, you should not neglect any opportunity to gain insight into just what your prospective employer seeks. A resume checker uses sophisticated algorithms to do just that.

To use our free resume evaluator, all you have to do is cut and paste your resume (if you already have one) into our builder tool. If you haven’t yet compiled a resume, you’re in the right place to get started. Our resume builder will prompt you to choose a template and enter all your information.

Once you have taken advantage of all our resume creation tools, you will see an immediate resume score for your general occupation and tips for boosting your resume’s success. But you can take it a step further by using our resume checker to help you target the exact job for which you are applying.

You may use the resume checker for every individual job you wish to apply for. Follow the tips offered to target each employer.

Steps to resume excellence

  • Develop your resume according to general advice and advice specific to the job you seek
  • Cut and paste into our resume builder tool
  • Check your overall grade
  • Adjust as needed
  • Find the listing for the job of your dreams
  • Cut and paste the URL into our resume checker
  • Followed the tailored hints

What? After all that hard work, contemplation and editing, you only received a resume score of 54%? How did that happen? Don’t worry, it’s not that you haven’t compiled an excellent resume. It’s just that your brain is not an algorithm while our resume checker is.

That 54% has no relationship to failure. It merely means that you have the opportunity to increase your chances of beating the ATS. The closer to 100% you can get, the more likely your resume will end up where you want it: in the hands of a human being who can truly assess your qualifications for the job.

Enhancing your resume score

So how do you boost your resume score?

The AI suggestions built into your resume grader are based on job hunting data and comparisons with the job listing you input. For example: you’re an accountant and that is the title you listed, but the job you are applying for requires a bit of financial forecasting. You have that experience, but it might be to your benefit to change your job title to read “Accountant and Financial Analyst.” Only do so if you have the experience to back it up, of course.

Our checker will also suggest improvements to your summary (including length, keywords and grammar) and prompt you to add rated skills and sections or bulleted items to the sections you have already included when warranted.

Finally, you can take advantage of our AI-powered cover letter builder to get you started on an application letter based on the job listing and your improved resume.

That’s all there is to it!

Key takeaways

  • When you’re in the hunt for a job, your goal is an offer of an interview.
  • Take advantage of every tool that can give you an edge over the competition including resume builders and resume checkers.
  • Use our free resume checker each time you begin an application for a different job.
  • Enhance your resume first to pass through the ATS and then to impress your prospective employer with your targeted application.
