Master’s in special education classes

You’ll take a variety of courses to prepare you for educating children with diverse needs, including the three-part educator scholar community. This series of courses runs throughout the program so you can enhance your teaching strategies with new skills and abilities in your areas of interest as an educator. You’ll also complete a final applied research project in which you’ll have the opportunity to evaluate and identify an education challenge and design an intervention within the classroom.

Application requirements

Applicants are eligible to apply to the program if they have earned a bachelor's or master's degree from a regionally accredited institution. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (scale is 4.00 = "A") in the last 60 hours of their first bachelor's degree program, or a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (scale is 4.00 = "A") in an applicable master's degree program. Provisional admission may be extended to applicants with an undergraduate GPA of 2.75-2.99, provided the application is otherwise strong.

  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • Personal statement.

  • An applicant whose native language is not English (regardless of current residency) must provide proof of English proficiency.
  • The three letters of recommendation should be from individuals who’ve worked with you in professional or academic capacities, and who can attest to your aptitude in this field and your ability to succeed at graduate-level coursework.
  • Describe the personal and professional goals that motivate you to apply for the MEd in Special Education.
  • Explain what led you to this career path and how you will excel as a special education teacher in the classroom. The admission committee pays particular attention to the quality of writing and ideas expressed in the personal statement.
  • The statement should consist of approximately 500 words (two pages, double spaced), prepared in an MS Word (.doc), Rich Text (.rtf), Portable Document Format (.pdf), or Text (.txt) file format.

The 33-credit master’s in special education online program includes core and capstone courses, plus an area of emphasis. This online program is not designed to lead to initial teacher certification in any state; however, it may help you renew or maintain your existing certification if you are already a certified teacher.

Required Courses (6 credits)

Strategies for educating learners with disabilities in inclusive settings with an emphasis on instruction, accommodations, collaboration, and consultation.

The purpose of this class is to help teachers find solutions in the literature to everyday classroom problems. In line with this purpose, teachers will learn how to (a) find information in the literature, (b) evaluate the technical adequacy of the information, and (c) apply the information in their setting.

Choose an Emphasis Area

Applied behavior analysis (24 credits).

Introduces students to single-case research design and methodology. This course is designed to provide the student with all the necessary tools needed to formulate questions that require repeated measures observation and analysis, including the use of visual and statistical analytic methods.

Explore current issues and research in the field of special education.

This course covers the foundational underpinnings of the field of applied behavior analysis, which uses principles of behavior to positively impact client outcomes. The field emphasizes an empirical base through the use of experimental analysis of key variables in order to develop evidence-based interventions.

This course teaches the basic principles of applied behavior analysis, the building blocks necessary for developing evidence-based behavioral interventions.

This course teaches students how to conduct and interpret various behavioral assessments. Students will explore various behavioral assessments including skills assessments, preference assessments, direct and indirect functional behavior assessments, and experimental functional analysis.

This course utilizes the concepts and foundations taught in the prerequisite courses in order to guide students towards developing the skills necessary in implementing evidence-based practices and selecting the appropriate procedures when targeting behaviors for change.

This course builds on the concepts taught in the prerequisite courses and will cover organizational behavior management, which can be defined as using a behavior analytic framework to teach students how to train, supervise, monitor, and provide feedback to personnel who are implementing academic and behavior change programs.

In this class students will learn about the governmental and professional disciplinary standards that regulate the field of behavior analysis in special education. Beyond the letter of the law, students will work through case studies where ethical dilemmas are presented in an effort to tease out the underpinnings of ethical behavior.

Autism (24 credits)

Students who choose this emphasis area will also need to select 9 elective credits at the 500 or 800 level.

This course will include an overview of characteristics and learning traits, classification systems, assessment strategies/issues, approaches, and interventions related to individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). Special emphasis will be given to selecting evidence-based practices and enhancing collaboration among individuals with ASD, their families, and supporting professionals.

The course content includes an overview of basic principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA) and elements of empiricism in education settings. Basic principles include reinforcement, stimulus control, punishment, prompting, fading, generalization, and maintenance. Special emphasis will be given to the application of ABA principles to classroom settings. A historical perspective will be outlined concerning the application of ABA to individuals with autism as well as the use of ethics in treatment and education. Empirically based interventions for persons with autism will be covered, including discrete trial, analysis of verbal behavior, and direct instruction. Finally, issues affecting persons with autism and their families will be addressed, including functional analysis, sleeping, eating, toileting/grooming, and determining credibility of treatments.

Language development and communication strategies, issues, pragmatics, communications systems, augmentative and alternative communication systems (AAC), social deficits in autism, and approaches for teaching social skills.

Types of assessment, such as screening, diagnosis, and identification of skills in development diagnosis; identification of skills in developmental domains, such as sensory, oral motor, play, and communication; practical strategies detailing what to teach based on assessment results; and an overview of curricula approaches and materials.

Academic and Behavioral Supports (24 credits)

Students who choose this emphasis area will need to select 3 elective credits.

An introduction to the empirical study of variables and conditions that influence school learning.

Provides aspiring leaders with learning opportunities and activities authentic to school leaders and leadership roles in educational organizations.

This course will teach students the role of the general education teacher in supporting the use of assistive technology (AT) by students with disabilities in general education classrooms.

Overview of motivation, encouraging positive behaviors, effective classroom management, performance feedback, functional behavior assessment, collaboration, generalization, and maintenance of behavior.

Evidence-based methods for designing, delivering, and adapting instruction for students with special needs in general education settings.

This course provides an overview of special education law and methods to assess learners with special education needs in the general education setting.

Capstone Course (3 credit)

Capstone projects generally relate to topics explored in both the student's area of emphasis, as well as in an initial research course. Projects may involve quantitative or qualitative data collection or syntheses of literature.

For admission to the J. Jeffrey and Ann Marie Fox Graduate School, an applicant must hold either (1) a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or (2) a tertiary (postsecondary) degree that is deemed comparable to a four-year bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution. This degree must be from an officially recognized degree-granting institution in the country in which it operates.

GPA — All applicants are expected to have a GPA of 3.0 or higher from prior course work.

2. Gather your required materials.

You will need to upload the following items as part of your application:

Official transcripts from each institution attended , regardless of the number of credits or semesters completed. Transcripts not in English must be accompanied by a certified translation. If you are a Penn State alum, you do not need to request transcripts for credits earned at Penn State but must list Penn State as part of your academic history.

Test Scores — GRE scores are not required

English Proficiency — The language of instruction at Penn State is English. With some exceptions, international applicants must take and submit scores for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Minimum test scores and exceptions are found in the English Proficiency section on the  Fox Graduate School's "Requirements for Graduate Admission" page . Visit the  TOEFL website  for testing information. Penn State's institutional code is 2660.

References (3) — You will need to initiate the process through the online application by entering names, email addresses, and mailing addresses of three references. Upon submission of your application, an email will be sent to each recommender requesting they complete a brief online recommendation regarding your commitment for success in an online program.

The letter should address the nature and quality of the applicant’s professional/workplace performance and an assessment of the applicant’s readiness to pursue online graduate degree study. The references must be provided by professional colleagues such as coworkers, supervisors, academic instructors or advisers, classmates, business partners, etc. We are unable to accept references from family members or personal friends/acquaintances. Please inform all recommenders they must submit the form in order for your application to be complete.

Dr. Elizabeth M. Hughes is an assistant professor of special education at Penn State. Her scholarship focuses on the role of language when learning mathematics, specifically for students with learning disabilities. Her research evaluates mathematical writing strategies, vocabulary supports, and video modeling as evidence-based practices to support learning mathematics.

Dr. Rick Kubina, BCBA-D, is a professor of special education at Penn State and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst with doctoral designation. Dr. Kubina's research focuses on the science of individual measurement and performance/learning improvement. He is the co-author of The Precision Teaching Book and the co-founder of Chartlytics, a web application system for precisely pinpointing and recording behavior for making decisions and using repeated problem-solving to help learners experience effective and efficient learning outcomes.

Dr. David Lee, BCBA-D, is a professor of special education. The focus of Dr. Lee’s research is to develop, evaluate, and disseminate programs to support students with or at risk for emotional/behavior disorders. His research draws upon a behavior analytic framework to create positive, function-based interventions for students, primarily in middle/high school.

Dr. David B. McNaughton is a professor of special education at Penn State. His teaching and research focus on the development of effective educational programs for individuals with severe disabilities. He is especially interested in the effective use of technology by individuals who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and how AAC can be used to achieve important educational and vocational outcomes.

Dr. Kelly Mercorella, BCBA-D, is an assistant professor of special education at Penn State and teaches a variety of courses for the online M.Ed. program in Special Education. Dr. Mercorella's research interests center around facilitating reading comprehension for elementary students with disabilities, particularly designing interventions to instruct students on visualization strategies related to reading. Prior to earning her doctorate, Dr. Mercorella was a special education teacher in both self-contained and inclusive settings, serving students from Pre–K through fifth grade.

Paul J. Riccomini

Dr. Paul J. Riccomini, an associate professor of special education at Penn State, began his career as a middle and high school general education and special education math teacher. His research focus is on effective instructional strategies and assessments for students with dyscalculia and students with learning disabilities in mathematics. He is a co-author of Response to Intervention in Math (Corwin, 2010) and Building Number Sense through the Common Core (Corwin, 2013), as well as three math intervention programs targeting fractions, integers, and algebraic equations.

Dr. Jonte Taylor (“JT”) is an assistant professor of special education at Penn State. He taught for approximately 10 years with a variety of populations from pre-K to adult in settings ranging from inclusive classrooms to residential treatment facilities. His research interests include science education for students with disabilities, evaluating innovative classroom practices, and bullying issues for students with autism, learning disabilities, and emotional/behavioral disorders.

The Special Education Program is committed to preparing knowledgeable, effective, and ethical K-12 license-eligible special educators to teach and serve diverse students with disabilities and their families. The program seeks to help teachers of students with disabilities understand their students, themselves, their curriculum, their assessments, their colleagues, and their communities. Our graduates develop deep understandings of child and adolescent development and individual differences to respond effectively to the multidimensional needs of students with disabilities. They understand and leverage learners’ full range of abilities, maintain high expectations for all learners, and learn to implement instructional and behavioral strategies to create learning environments to maximize success for all students. Graduate students explore and understand their own personal profile as educators, its interaction with their students’ and families’ strengths and aspirations, and become culturally mindful and responsive special educators in the communities in which they teach.

The following requirements must be fulfilled: 36 credits in required courses, successful completion of the master of arts in education and human development comprehensive examination, and completion of the relevant teacher licensure assessments (see below).

The program leads to a Master of Arts in Education and Human Development and eligibility for District of Columbia special education teaching licensure for students in grades K-6 or 7-12. ( DC currently has reciprocity with over 40 states ). As a graduate of GW’s Master’s in Special Education program, you will be prepared to work with students who have disabilities utilizing skills that span knowledge, diversity, assessment, and collaboration, including:

  • Understanding the effects an exceptional condition can have on student learning
  • Developing individualized instructional plans based on a student’s abilities and needs as well learning environment
  • Demonstrating knowledge and skills to apply and evaluate assessment information for diverse educational decisions
  • Understanding of the legal policies and ethical principles of measurement and assessment related to referral, eligibility, program planning, instruction and placement for students
  • Ability to work collaboratively with peers, family, service providers and community agencies to improve learning and support for students

Our educator preparation model draws on the most effective aspects of U.S. special education practices, but we expand students’ training to include relationship-based approaches, the application of disability studies lenses to empower neurodiverse learners, and systems change to push special education reform “from the inside, out” to address and improve persistent gaps in outcomes for individuals with disabilities.

 Career Outlook

There is a national demand for teachers who are knowledgeable about the needs of students with disabilities. Our GSEHD graduates have a 100% hire rate following graduation and many receive early hires in multiple states. Graduates are often later selected for key leadership roles in schools. Within this field, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports job growth of 4% over the next ten years 1 with better screening and identification of various disabilities in children increasing the demand for special education services. In addition, children with disabilities are being identified earlier and enrolled into special education programs.

As a disabled person who didn't really understand my disability until later in college, my biggest fear going into graduate school was that I wouldn't be able to handle it because I always felt like I was barely staying above water trying to navigate school. The ECSE specialization area focuses on children from birth to age nine. It specifically targets developmental disabilities and addresses several aspects of ECSE. These include understanding the unique characteristics of disabilities, conducting assessments, implementing effective methods and strategies, and supporting all forms of development like language and physical growth.

Emotional Behavioral Disorders (EBD)

The EBD specialization area focuses on children and adolescents with both emotional and behavior disorders. This specialization covers a wide spectrum of ED-related aspects, such as understanding the unique characteristics of EBD’s, conducting assessments, and implementing effective behavior and academic strategies.

General Special Education

The flexible General Specialization is a “design your own program” option. You have the freedom to select courses from the entire range offered within the special education program, tailoring your education to your specific interests and goals.

Intellectual Disabilities (ID)

The ID specialization provides expertise in working with children and adolescents who have Developmental Cognitive Disabilities (DCD). Learning Disabilities (LD)

The LD specialization focuses on helping children and adolescents facing learning challenges that aren't due to developmental, emotional, or cognitive disabilities. The VI specialization is dedicated to supporting children and teenagers who are blind or visually impaired. BCBA Exam Requirements

UND's Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) specialization prepare students to take the Behavior Certification Board exam and to become a behavior analyst (BCBA).

The Board requires that exam applicants have completed:

  • A graduate degree (master's or higher)
  • Verified course sequence (VCS) of ABA courses
  • 1,500-2,000 hours of supervised fieldwork

UND's programs can support each or a combination of these requirements.

This option is for students who would like to complete all three of the Board requirements to be eligible to take the Board exam. Students are not required to complete supervised fieldwork hours with UND faculty support, but are highly encouraged to do so.

SPED 552. Inclusive Methods. 3 Credits.

The study of a variety of methods and materials for teaching and assessing children and youth with learning and behavior problems in the general education classroom.

SPED 511. Identification and Assessment of Young Children with Special Needs. 3 Credits.

A study of the principles and procedures for screening, identifying and evaluating young children with special needs. Emphasis will be placed on exposing students to available assessment instruments and providing opportunities for actual testing of preschoolers. Prerequisite: Admission to one of the master's programs in special education.

SPED 502. Braille Reading and Writing. 2 Credits.

In this course students learn: 1) to read and write the literary code of grade 2 braille and 2) to teach the literary code of grade 2 braille to students of all ages. Prerequisite: Must demonstrate proficiency in Braille Code I and Braille Code II, or, must enroll in Braille Code II and Braille Reading and Writing concurrently. S.

SPED 567. Assessment in Autism Spectrum Disorder. 3 Credits.

This course is a required course in a sequence of interdisciplinary courses focusing on autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This course will address the entire process of program planning for students with ASD including screening, evaluative assessment, ongoing assessment, using assessment to guide intervention planning, and monitoring progress. Students will explore a variety of methods and tools commonly used with individuals with ASD; specifically, standardized assessments, checklists, rating scales, structured observation tools, and curricular based assessments. Its central focus is on assessing the ongoing needs and strengths of individuals with ASD in order to plan successful interventions in further differentiating instruction. S,SS.

M.A. in Special Education

Master of Arts Degree (M.A.) in Various Concentrations

The Master of Arts degree in Special Education provides the professional educator with advanced knowledge and skills in special education. This degree has many requirements in common with the   Education Specialist Clear/Induction Credentials in Special Education   and may be earned concurrently with those credentials. Although the M.A. degree is usually linked to a teaching credential, it is open to individuals with undergraduate degrees in a wide range of disciplines in consultation with the graduate advisor.

Admission requirements for the M.A. include the prerequisite course SPED 527 and at least a 3.0 GPA from credential and undergraduate studies.

Offering in-depth study of issues related to individuals affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders.

This master's degree embeds an approved course sequence for the BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) . The M.A. degree also embeds most of the Clear coursework for the Extensive Support Needs and Early Childhood credentials in California.

Educational legislation, theories, philosophies, research findings, issues and trends in area of exceptionality. Application of research to solution of educational problems.

Program Plans

Preparation of a project or thesis for the master’s degree.

Single-case research designs focused on interventions with individuals with disabilities.

An intensive study in selected areas of education culminating in a written project. Limited to students following Plan B for the Master of Arts degree in education. 

In general, applicants will be programmed for Plan B, the seminar plan. After the student is approximately halfway through the program, has secured an adviser, and established a thesis plan, permission to transfer to Plan A may be requested. Plan A is designed for students who have a particular research problem they wish to investigate in some detail. Requests for transfer to Plan A must be prepared as an official change in the program for the master’s degree, countersigned by the faculty adviser, and submitted to the Office of Graduate Programs in the College of Education.

Candidates for the Master of Arts degree in education who elect Plan B, must pass the comprehensive examination.

Consult the Graduate advisor about potential credit for other 500-700 level courses you have taken.

Becoming a special education teacher at Peabody allows you to develop competencies in all categories of exceptionality, but your studies will focus on one of four special education track areas:

Early Childhood , to serve infants, toddlers, young children, and their families who deal with a wide range of developmental delays

High Incidence , for those intending to become intervention specialists for children and young adults with reading and math disabilities and persistent behavior problems

Within the Low Incidence Program:

Professor Mancilla-Martinez's program of research is focused on advancing students' language and reading comprehension outcomes, including those of students from Spanish-speaking, low-income homes. Her studies build on her earlier research in reading development and the central importance of supporting students' language comprehension to mitigate later reading comprehension difficulties.

Med special education.

The MEd in Special Education prepares graduates to work with people with disabilities, diverse in strengths, ages (5-21), and teaching and learning in educational and community settings, and schools. The need for special education teachers is urgent, especially in urban areas like Chicago. Research indicates that a shortage of special education teachers disproportionately affects minority students, particularly in urban school districts that have large majorities of African American and Latina/o/x students. Special educators work in a range of instructional settings in school and in communities.

All students earn a master's and can add on initial Illinois licensure and credentials. The program welcomes students entirely new to teaching, current teachers new to special education, current special education teachers and students seeking new knowledge about special education.

Assistive Technology Leaders in Special Education II (ATLiS2) scholarship program

Assistive Technology Leaders in Special Education II  (ATLiS2) is a special education scholarship program that will prepare currently licensed educators to earn an Illinois learning behavior specialist (LBS1) endorsement and an advanced learning behavior specialist (LBS2) endorsement in assistive technology. ATLiS2 scholars will participate in interdisciplinary coursework and community building activities to establish a community of assistive technology specialists.

Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant

The TEACH Grant provides federal student aid to teacher candidates who seek to become teachers in low-income schools.

As a condition for receiving a TEACH Grant, you must sign a TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve in which you agree to (among other requirements) teach: (1) in a high-need field; (2) at an elementary school, secondary school, or educational service agency that serves students from low-income families; and (3) for at least four complete academic years within eight years after completing (or ceasing enrollment in) the course of study for which you received the grant.

Illinois Special Education Teacher Tuition Waiver Program

Students in the MEd Special Education program pursuing licensure to teach special education (including current teachers with an Illinois Professional Education License who are not currently qualified to teach special education) may be eligible for the Illinois Special Education Teacher Tuition Waiver (SETTW) Program.   This program exempts students from paying tuition and mandatory fees for up to four calendar years.  By receiving the tuition waiver, you must teach in Illinois in the field of special education. If this teaching commitment is not fulfilled, the amount of benefits received converts to a loan, and you must repay the entire amount plus interest.

UIC Graduate College Tuition Waiver

Students in any graduate program at the College of Education are eligible for a UIC Graduate College tuition waiver.   Available on a semester-by-semester basis, a limited number are available, but all students are encouraged to apply.

CHIME (Collaborative teaching for young and diverse children with high-intensity needs and multiple disabilities in blended environments) is a federally funded special education scholarship program that will prepare current teachers with an Illinois educators license to earn a master’s degree, an IL Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) endorsement, and the Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) approval. CHIME will prepare educators to teach young children with disabilities, especially those between the ages of 3 and 5, in inclusive environments with a commitment educational justice, accessibility, and equity.

CHIME will provide students with a scholarship that consists of tuition, fees and a book stipend. The program will last two-years across five semesters with students taking two to three classes per semester. Each student must complete a service obligation that requires one year of teaching in an approved position for each semester of funding.

Eligibility

  • Current teachers with a professional educator’s license (PEL) without LBS1 endorsement or ECSE approval
  • Interest in learning about special education, evidence-based interventions, and inclusion for students aged 3-21.
  • US Citizen or Permanent US Resident

Program Content

Between January 2025 and July 2026, CHIME scholars will complete 37 credits in the following areas:

  • 18 credits to earn the LBS1 endorsement
  • 14 credits to earn the ECSE approval
  • 5 credits for CHIME cohort seminar

Special Ed master’s students have the option to pursue several different credentials from the State of Illinois in addition to licensure:

  • Early Childhood Special Education Approval
  • Bilingual and/or English as a Second Language (ESL) Endorsements
  • Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBS1) for ages 5-21
  • Assistive technology
  • Behavior intervention
  • Curriculum adaptation (inclusion)

Endorsement only: Licensed teachers have the option to earn these endorsements without completing a master’s degree program through UIC Extended Campus (LBS1 starting Fall 2020).

What is the difference between groups 1, 2, 3 or 4? Which one should I apply for?

Requirements for each group depend on your current teaching credentials and career goals. See the description for each:

Group 1  is for students without an education background, entirely new to the teaching profession, who seek both teacher licensure (PEL) and the Illinois Learning Behavior Specialist 1 (LBS1) endorsement.

Group 2  is for students who are currently licensed teachers (have a PEL) but are new to special education and seek the Illinois Learning Behavior Specialist 1 (LBS1) endorsement.

Group 3  is for students who are currently licensed special education teachers who hold a Learning Behavior Specialist 1 (LBS1) endorsement and seek Illinois Learning Behavior Specialist 2 (LBS2) endorsement(s).

Group 4  is for students seeking new knowledge about special education, but who are not interested in teacher licensure or Illinois endorsements

What will I earn that will enable me to teach in Illinois?

Students can earn the Professional Educators License (PEL) and endorsements. If you have the PEL (if you are already a licensed teacher in Illinois), you will earn additional endorsement(s).

The endorsement for teaching special education is the Learning Behavior Specialist 1 (LBS1).  You will be endorsed to teach students ages 5 – 21 in all academic content areas. When gaining employment, you can choose grade level(s), ability/disability populations, and the kinds of collaborative teaching and inclusionary work you want.

We encourage you to earn additional endorsements also, especially for teaching students for whom English is a second language (ESL) and/or the Early Childhood/Special Education approval.

How many credits/courses do I have to take? Is student teaching part of the program?

The MEd requires 33 credits (11 courses). If you do not have a PEL and you want to earn one (Group 1), you will complete 13 additional credits (pre-student teaching internship and student teaching) required to earn your initial PEL.

When do classes meet? Are there online class options?

During fall and spring semesters, courses meet once a week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. In summer, courses meet generally twice a week since the semester is abbreviated/shorter time. Over half the UIC Special Ed courses are “blended” or hybrid; that is, they meet over 1/3 of the time in non face-face sessions (e.g., online work).

Are there scholarships and financial aid available?

Yes. Special education teachers are in high demand and so there are a wide variety of public and private scholarships available. Check out our  Financial Aid & Scholarships page  for specific info for UIC special ed master’s students.

What is the employment outlook for special education?

Overall employment of special education teachers is projected to grow 4 percent from 2021 to 2031, about as fast as the average for all occupations. About 37,600 openings for special education teachers are projected each year, on average, over the decade. (Source: US Department of Labor Statistics.)

What are some career options for a Special Ed master's degree besides classroom teaching?

In addition to classroom teaching, MEd Special Education graduates go on to pursue school leadership positions, work in government agencies, and more.

What exams are required?

As of July 2019, Illinois no longer has a requirement to show basic skills knowledge; it is assumed in passage into college and graduation. In special education, two state exams are required that you will take in the later part of your program.  We prepare you for those two (LBS1 and Special Education General Curriculum).

For admission into the MEd program, the GRE is not required.

What background knowledge or experience do I need?

You do not need a previous degree in education or even a related field; we recognize that people can decide at any time to enter education and we welcome you. We do require that you have a bachelor’s degree. We do encourage applicants to gain experiences with youth and/or adults with disabilities in part to observe and wonder, and in part to help ensure interest and fulfillment.
