Lutron+ app + Homeworks QS questions

Hi /Lutron,

Hoping there are some Lutron experts out there who might have a couple of minutes to offer some advice.

I've arrived at a home that a friend has asked me to help get set up - it's the usual story of 'the previous owners didn't give us any details about the Lutron system' so I'm bumbling my way trying to figure things out. I'm at a remote location where there are no local installers. I'm quite technical (hardware/software dev) and it's a little vexxing trying to figure out Lutron's closed system :) Also the cell phone service here is not great so calling 1-800 Lutron has been tough because the calls keep dropping. They have a 50Mb connection into the house that is reliable.

This particular installation appears to only be controlling shades. In each room in the house there is a wireless controller and they work quite well. We're trying to get the mobile app working.

Here's what they have in the back:

Here's the main question: what does it take to get the Lutron app working to control the shades?

I can see the Homeworks controller on the network:

When I fire up the Lutron+ app and tap 'Add System' it looks like it discovers the home:

When I tap on that entry and I select 'Only access at home' I get menus and sub menus (1st floor, Kitchen, etc) - but when I get to the 'Shades' part for each room, the shades don't respond (but they work great with the physical wireless controller). What are we doing wrong?

Wondering if anyone could offer some ideas or places to go to? Also - not sure if I'm allowed to post this but I'll try anyway (apologies in advance if it's not) - if anyone is able to offer some paid remote consulting/advice I'd sure appreciate it and happy to pay for someone's time to offer some ideas or take a look over Zoom/Facetime (DM please) . Thank you so much for listening and appreciate any guidance 🙏🏻

Edit: Here's one of the wireless controllers:

what isn't working? have you paired your hub with c4?

Yes. i add the IP address for the main processor to my driver on C4.. Is there anything else I'm supposed to do? Also i add the driver for the processor using the Discovered tab on composer.

which driver are you using?

I used the one that add automatically when you added from the discovered tab and i have used another one that is on the database

Name: Lutron HomeWorksQS Processor (OS 2.9+)
Manufacturer: Lutron
Model: HomeWorksQS Processor

Do you have to add drivers for the dimmers as well as the processor?

Like

you need one driver per device

I had to add the driver for the dimmer. And i also try adding the driver for the processor manually and nothing..

Yes. Im just doing a test with one dimmer and Thermostat for now

and you made the bindings? and set the ID numbers?

Make sure you aren't using the default user and password for the processor. And of course set the username and password to the corresponding one that you create in Lutron.

What’s the model of the processor you’re using? I would have thought you’ve got the right one if it was in discovered but you never know.

check the dimmer drivers have HomeWorksQS in the name

Not to get too far off topic but does anyone have Lutron homeworks shades and/or fans integrated into C4? My Lutron shades and fans do not work great with control4 and I have been looking for a solution for a long time.

Unsocialtoaster

There is a shades driver for Homeworks QS shades, but it gets a bit messy if you try to do groups of shades. Someone did release a thrid party driver to help with this quite recently, but I'm afraid I can't remember who.

AFAIK there is no driver for a Homeworks QS fan, but I think it should be possible to program around it to get a fan icon on the interface, even if in the background the system thinks it is switching a light on and off.

Thank you for the response. This goes into detail about my problem. If anyone has something to add please feel free!

dinom

This is the new 3rd party driver that is supposedly better than the C4 one. I am waiting for them to release a RadioRA 2 version, as I’m having the same problems as you (as you know).

https://drivercentral.io/platforms/control4-drivers/blinds-shades/lutron/

Wow thank you I can’t believe I didn’t know about that!

No problem. If you get this setup and working, please let me know if it fixes the shade status with the seeTouch keypads.

Lutron HomeworksQS binding - password

I am new to openHab and I’m trying to escape from a Control4 installed system. I have Lutron HomeworksQS installed and working well, including communication with Control4 for control of audio through Lutron Picos. When setting up openHab, it finds the Lutron system but when trying to register it, it asks for a username and password. The Control4 installer assures me that there is no username or password defined, not even the default Lutron/Lutron. I can access the Lutron repeater through my router and no username or password is required to do this. Please advise how I can complete the registration of the Lutron system in openHab without having to specify a non-existent username and password.

Lutron HWI with TCP/IP

;)

alexanbo wrote: The problem with the shades I have is that during the upload process that screen that shows what's happening will say something to the effect that it's checking shades and then the download will fail and a message will pop up about a time out and the terminal window and download window will get closed. The Lutron system itself will still be in a download mode with the led's on the keypads cyclying so we would then have to go and do the download through a serial cable. Now we're still using the latest production release of the Illumination software 1.05 so I suspect that maybe the culprit. I tend to think the TCP/IP was improved in the beta versions to support the web keypads and such. Andre

The standard login may establish a connection and allow commands to be sent and acted upon, but you won't get feedback. Need to setup user/pw with feedback that you want - Address Assignment tab, port 9 (Illuminations). I will send to Jon P. in tech support my snippets of code, and to anyone else who would like it. Still needs prettying up, but I have control and LED tracking. Bill

I just went through the process of updating my include file for lighting to use the duet IP comm module and everything was working well until I got to the part where I parse the responses for commands Jeff
DHawthorne wrote: I'm not following - you mean in the Duet module? I have been using full IP control for Lutron for a long time now, but I have my own modules for it. The Lutron certainly supports it, as long as it's a P5.
DHawthorne wrote: You have to create a specific login for control.
Bump to the msg about the user/pass on the AMX sample code. I see the module documentation mentions the user/pass; is this something we should send with an ONLINE EVENT?
John Gonzales wrote: » Looking at the documentation, there appears to be a Property key (which wasn't in the documentation prior to 10/29/07 when it was updated) for the username and password. The module should log you in during a device Online: event. The docs call for a Login name as the <value>, but it should probably be the login string which would be your username and password together. If you're sending the login info as a command to the virtual device, then it should be in the online event for the virtual device. The _comm module will then have the info when it needs to log in to the actual device. With this new (to me) information about the login key, I would think it would have to look like this: DEFINE_CONSTANT INTEGER nHomeworksDevicePort = 6 CHAR cHomeworksTelnetPort = '23' CHAR cHomeworksIPAddress[14] = '192.168.xxx.xx' CHAR cHomeworksUsername[8] = 'MyUserName' CHAR cHomeworksPassword[7] = 'MyPassword' DATA_EVENT[vdvLights] { OFFLINE: { send_string 0, 'Netlinx Virtual Device OFFLINE, please try to REINIT to reconnect' } ONLINE: { WAIT 50 { SEND_COMMAND vdvLights, "'PROPERTY-IP_Address, ', cHomeworksIP_Address" SEND_COMMAND vdvLights, "'PROPERTY-port, ', cHomeworksTelnetPort" SEND_COMMAND vdvLights, "'PROPERTY-Login,"cHomeworksUsername,', ',cHomeworksPassword" SEND_COMMAND vdvLights, 'REINIT' } } --John
vining wrote: » You also need to set up the login username and password in Lutron's Iliumination program and download to the HomeWorks processor. Under addressing, link 9 (ethernet) and then Telnet Login.
