Admission and registration procedures
To apply for a doctorate, all candidates must hold a Master's degree from a university and a programme recognised by the UNIGE. In all cases, candidates must have obtained a Master's degree from a university or a qualification deemed equivalent and a programme recognised by the UNIGE. No French exam is required for registration by the Admissions Service. Please check with the faculty/institute/centre to determine the level of requirements.
In general, doctoral enrolment is possible all year round, for a start in one of the two semesters (autumn or spring). Please contact the faculty in question to find out about its specific requirements.
Doctoral candidates must be registered with the University for the duration of their thesis. If you have any questions about registration requirements and procedures, please visit the Admissions Service website.

The University of Geneva Faculties of Medicine and Science join their forces to offer an outstanding study and research environment in Life Sciences. Highly motivated students with a Master’s degree or equivalent are welcome to apply to one or two of its six innovative doctoral programmes.
All students entering the program are remunerated according to the standards of the University of Geneva, which are above those of the Swiss National Science Foundation and generous when compared to other international PhD programs.

The discipline of Biomedical Sciences addresses global challenges such as obesity, cancer, and cardiovascular, autoimmune and infectious diseases. Our programme capitalises on a rich diversity of thematic in genetics, development, microbiology immunology and physiology to offer a stimulating environment to train young scientists toward autonomous and responsible scientific work. The acquisition of fundamental knowledge and a wide range of advanced and transferable skills is achieved through a versatile training program that expands scientific culture and critical thinking. Research projects are embedded in an arena of cutting edge cores facilities that provide personalized training and the proximity of the hospital offers a unique interface between basic and clinical research.
