  • Description

The #1 resource for carrying out educational research as part of postgraduate study.

High-quality educational research requires careful consideration of every aspect of the process. This all-encompassing textbook written by leading international experts gives students and early career researchers a considered overview of principles that underpin research, and key qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods for research design, data collection and analysis.

This third edition includes  four  new chapters:

  • Disseminating your research
  • Data science and computational research methods
  • Observational methods
  • Analysis of variance (ANOVA)

Plus a new  Research essentials  feature that highlights key ‘must-haves’ or misconceptions relating to each methodological approach, research design or analytical tool discussed.

This is essential reading for postgraduate students on education courses and early career researchers looking to sharpen their research practice.

Logically structured, clear and informative. This book has significant chapter on Academic ethics which will be essential not only for BA students but for PhD and early research career as well

This book covers a wide range of issues in relation to educational research - there is something in there for all my students. Each chapter is short and to the point.

Research Methods and Methodologies in Education is a book I have used repeatedly since teaching Research on Foundation degree and BA top up

This book is beneficial for doctoral students because it provides clear and concise details on the steps to performing scholarly research designs. I am highly recommending this book for my courses.

Researchers have since centuries used research methods to support the creation of reliable knowledge based on empirical evidence and logical arguments. This chapter offers an overview of established research strategies and methods with a focus on empirical research in the social sciences. We discuss research strategies, such as experiment, survey, case study, ethnography, grounded theory, action research, and phenomenology. Research methods for data collection are also described, including questionnaires, interviews, focus groups, observations, and documents. Qualitative and quantitative methods for data analysis are discussed. Finally, the use of research strategies and methods within design science is investigated.

The Transparent Reporting of Evaluations with Nonrandomized Designs (TREND) guidelines were first published in 2004, in response to the perceived value and effect of the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) guidelines that had been introduced a decade earlier. 1 The initial development of these guidelines was spearheaded by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention HIV/AIDS Prevention Research Synthesis team. The initial interest was specifically in standardization of the reporting of behavioral interventions in HIV/AIDS (eg, interventions to improve adherence to antiretroviral therapy or to increase frequency of partner testing), but the group broadened its interest to include all evaluations of interventions using nonrandomized designs. The guideline authors, comprising researchers, policy makers, and journal editors, developed a reporting framework that was based on the CONSORT guidelines but adapted for evaluation of interventions other than randomized trials.

Measuring a company’s resilience to long-term, financially relevant ESG risks

Social Sharing

Esg rating intro para, what is an msci esg rating.

MSCI ESG Ratings aim to measure a company’s management of financially relevant ESG risks and opportunities. We use a rules-based methodology to identify industry leaders and laggards according to their exposure to ESG risks and how well they manage those risks relative to peers. Our ESG Ratings range from leader (AAA, AA), average (A, BBB, BB) to laggard (B, CCC). We also rate equity and fixed income securities, loans, mutual funds, ETFs and countries.
