Plane Movie Review: A Perfect Gerard Butler Does His Best In A Movie That At Max Only Scratches The Surface

Plane could have been a winner if everyone was as dedicated as gerard butler.

What’s Bad: The movie stuck in some random time zone decides to not delve deeper into its subject at all. A lucrative meal wasted.

Loo Break: There is intense action but you will still know your hint to take one.

Watch or Not?: Only if Gerard Butler is your man crush and you can see the makers deceive him with a half-hearted film.

A skilled pilot begins a flight with some unconventional passengers on board. Midway the flight gets struck by lightening and loses its control. The emergency landing takes them from one hell to another as they land in a war-torn country where they must thrive hard to survive

Plane Movie Review: Script Analysis

The beauty of survival dramas is always more in the setup than the people involved. The attention is obviously on the characters that are on both sides of the coin, but a filmmaker needs to explore where they stand and what the politics of that place has to offer. Like in 1917. It is a nameless land but the story of that place impacts the storyline in more than one good way and creates a three-dimensional world where it is not just about the protagonist surviving, but the ecosystem revealing itself too.

Plane that stars the amazing Gerard Butler as its leading man, relies a whole lot just on its casting coupe. Written by Charles Cumming (screenplay, story) and J.P. Davis (screenplay), the movie by the introduction and entry into the story is interesting. A flight with fourteen people, one of which is a top-order agent with a high-profile criminal accused of a homicide. When the flight gets hit by a thunderbolt, all of these are panicked to save their lives. I told you, interesting.

But the real problem begins when the introduction is done and the task now is to explore this plot and try to juice out as much as they could. But sad to report, the makers do none. It is a thriller about a flight emergency landing into a war zone where bloodthirsty vigilantes are running loose on the streets. We are never really told where exactly this place is, or what the war is about, or why even these guys are so raged that they don’t even think twice before killing a woman they haven’t even ever seen in the blink of an eye.

Rather the movie resorts to the commercial Hollywood traits of setting hand-to-hand combat, a rescue sequence, a larger-than-life plane flying stunt, and more. These troops never feel enough after the first combat. Because we have already seen enough of this, give us something more, something fresh, something that is unique about your story and not look like picked from hundred others.

Plane Movie Review: Star Performance

Gerard Butler invests the most in the movie. The actor plays the antagonist with conviction and you can see his prep in the very first 15 minutes when he is on the flight. The actor sheds his stardom and becomes that pilot effortlessly. In the movie to follow he embodies the patent Hollywood action star who saves the day and gets shot by a bullet right in the end. While the movie fails to give him a better playground, he doesn’t let that affect his game at least.

Rest everyone gets paper-thin parts that make little to no substantial impact at all.

Plane Movie Review: Direction, Music

Jean-FrançoisRichet.’s direction is as generic as it gets. He manages to create some intrigue with some twists and turns, but other than that there hardly anything out of the box here. He chooses to keep everything surface level without wanting to dig deeper and create a very alluring tale.

DOP Brendan Galvin tries his best to capture this world and tell a story with his frames but the base is not strong enough to support him.

Plane Movie Review: The Last Word

Plane could have been a winner if everyone was as dedicated as Gerard Butler, but turns out everyone chose to rely on him rather than support him.

"Plane" is the case of an action movie in which the dumb title—the most memorable thing about it—isn't an artistic statement, it's an alibi. If it can convince you that it's so simple, suddenly all of its laziness with character development, plotting, action sequences, etc., seems quaint, if not knowing. Add the pitch of Gerard Butler on a self-rescue mission, saving his flight passengers and crew from angry Filipino militants after a crash landing, and the expectations lower themselves.  

This rickety vehicle is produced by Butler, who seems to make these movies to avoid wearing superhero spandex or having to hurl himself off a cliff like Tom Cruise . He's fared better as a last action hero of a certain type of movie, and the biggest problem with "Plane" throughout is that it isn't wilder; it does not revel appropriately enough in its open dumbness. For its junky concept that eventually embraces '80s action storytelling firmer than a handshake in " Predator ," there are so many missed moments in which director Jean-François Richet attempts to get a free genre pass isn't so much as coasting but rushing to get itself over with.  

Things are looking up for "Plane" when it's gearing up for a big crash. Our main hero—Plane—is struck by lightning in a large spat of brutal weather, knocking out its power and dooming it to an unforeseen landing. With more of an air of "I can't believe this bad service," the 14 passengers on board start to freak out progressively; things become even direr when someone thinks they can outwit seatbelts. The sequence is cut with a punchy, glad-you-aren't-there intensity, and a couple of illustrative stunts—nasty things involving heads and neck trauma—make a firm point not to test gravity. Butler's pilot Brodie Torrance, who kicked off the flight with some Southwest Airlines-grade jokes over the intercom, executes some macho maneuvering and has his co-pilot Samuel ( Yoson An ) clock the ten minutes they have before they eventually crash land on a remote island in the Philippines.  

During this tumultuous descent, it's mighty strange when "Plane" shows a closeup of a drafted text message but not long enough for us to read whatever it says. But that's more of a hint that no characters have any important point to this story, aside, maybe, from a captured fugitive named Louis Gaspare ( Mike Colter ), who is handcuffed to an officer at the back of the plane. His history of committing homicide comes later in handy when the flight lands in progressively hostile territory. Brodie, with his history in the RAF and a gun secretly in his pants, brings him along the mysterious terrain to find help. Butler and Colter proceed to fend off plainly bad guys, with little chemistry between them in the process. 

Everything shifts for them when, after making a communications breakthrough at a shady warehouse (bullets on the floor, not a great sign), a bad guy sneaks up from behind and tries to kill Brodie. The scuffle that ensues is impressive, with the camera mostly holding on Butler's face as he wrestles with this bigger dude in tight quarters. But nothing is as exciting or long-lasting from here on out, even when Richet tries to heighten the danger with merciless militia men who roll up and kidnap Brodie's passengers and crew. "Plane" rushes through its emotional and explosive beats so that it can get to the next crisis without having to fill out the previous one, and it wildly skims on the good stuff in the process. Hostage situations are quickly fixed, dull gunfire exchanges are executed as if they were shot on different days, and even Colter's stiff, quiet killer only has his silence to make his stiffness remotely interesting as he doesn't get much of an arc despite the ominous promise at the beginning. It's just a bunch of action filmmaking gruel, presenting the jungle terrain with a color tint that matches the dank sweat on Butler's t-shirt.  

The biggest scene-stealer, really, is Gun, a quite large rifle brought by some airline-hired American black ops dudes who later appear, and which can fire bullets that rocket through car doors and exploding rib cages. Gun has a sounder dramatic arc than any other heroes in this assortment of action figurines and scowling cardboard cutouts and at least provides gory over-the-top violence like "Rambo" (2008), given the film's sleazy evolution. (My preview audience audibly adored Gun more than everything and everyone else in "Plane.”) Everyone else on-screen, from Butler's simply exhausted pilot to Colter's fugitive-maybe-looking for redemption to the super-scowling Filipino militia leader named Junmar ( Evan Dane Taylor ), is treated with such little sincerity by the script that you almost start to feel bad for them.  

Meanwhile, at Trailblazer Air headquarters back in New York City, the film props up its message that airline companies, not just their pilots, are ready to go to war for you. A group of people sits around a U-shape table with ominous lighting. The airline's CEO, Hampton ( Paul Ben-Victor ), uses his list of contacts trying to locate and then protect the passengers, including those American guys who come with their own equipment. A no-BS PR hotshot named Scarsdale, played by Tony Goldwyn , has all the answers and plenty of 'tude, too, like when he barks, "If you have New Year's Eve Plans, I just canceled them." It's telling how these scenes are filmed with the same feeling of a board room in one of Butler's " Olympus Has Fallen " movies. Like the other bits of wonky heroism in the disappointing vacation that is "Plane," it makes for an exaggerated joke with no punchline.

Plane review – an aviation fuel-powered good time

Gerard Butler soars as a crash-landing pilot on a lawless island in this big, brawling thriller

A pilot miraculously pulls off a teeth-rattling emergency landing, only to discover he must rescue his passengers all over again, this time from the lawless separatists and militias that rule the island of Jolo in the Philippines. It may be big, brawling and somewhat inelegant in approach, but this Gerard Butler vehicle is an aviation fuel-powered good time. Think Die Hard meets Big Jet TV (or Fly Hard, if you prefer).

Butler plays Captain Brodie Torrance, a former RAF pilot now flying commercial routes in South East Asia. This trip is shaping up to be a little different: it’s New Year’s Eve, and if all goes to plan, Brodie will be reunited with his daughter at the end of it. But first there’s a whole lot of weather to push through and the little matter of a shackled prisoner, former French Foreign Legion operative Louis Gaspare (Mike Colter), who is being extradited to stand trial for murder. Gaspare’s skill set proves crucial, both for the survival of the passengers and for the punchy blood lust of the film-making.

A very good and wonderful and some new concept movie with lots of unanswered questions. It starts very fast with a very small introduction of characters. The chef has a long past which should have to more elaborate. Very cleaver twist with whole movie. But I have no idea the last scene, where chef suicide with all this associate. In the white-knuckle action movie PLANE, pilot Brodie Torrance (Gerard Butler) saves his passengers from a lightning strike by making a risky landing on a war-torn island -- only to find that surviving the landing was just the beginning. When most of the passengers are taken hostage by dangerous rebels, the only person Torrance can count on for help is Louis Gaspare (Mike Colter), an accused murderer who was being transported by the FBI. In order to rescue the passengers, Torrance will need Gaspare's help, and will learn there's more to Gaspare than meets the eye.

Most of us have either danced or simply grooved to Halamithi Habibo song from the Thalapathy Vijay starrer Beast. The Tamil movie that also stars Pooja Hegde saw Vijay in the role of a RAW agent. And just like every masaledar movie, Beast also displayed a nail-biting fight sequence where Vijay was seen flying a fighter jet.

However, a retired IAF pilot has shared his dismay at a fight scene in the movie. Posted on Twitter by retired Group Captain Sivaraman Sajan, the video shows Vijay flying a fighter jet and blasting some goons in a head-on collision. Sajan shared the video with the simple caption, “I have so many questions”.

Prime Minister Modi will address a public meeting on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. on the occasion of Gangaur in Karauli, Rajasthan

With just days to the first phase of Lok Sabha Election 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is taking the Bharatiya Janata Party’s poll campaign in Uttarakhand and Rajasthan a notch higher on Thursday, with rallies in Rishikesh and Karauli-Dholpur.

Voting in Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand will be held in a single phase on April 19. Counting will be held on June 4.

Addressing the rally in Rishikesh, PM Modi said, “Today, there is a strong government in the country. Under this ‘mazboot Modi sarkar, atankwaadiyon ko ghar mein ghus ke mara jata hai’. Whenever we have had a weak government in the country our enemies have taken advantage.”

Attacking Congress, he said during the UPA regime, the soldiers did not even have bulletproof jackets.

“There was no proper arrangement to protect them from enemy bullets. It is the BJP which gave bulletproof jackets made in India to its soldiers, saving their lives. Today, everything from modern rifles to fighter planes and aircraft carriers is being made in the country itself,” he said.

He said that the weak Congress government could not build modern infrastructure on the borders and today, modern roads are being built on the border, and modern tunnels are being built.

He also hit out at Congress for skipping the Pran Prathishtha ceremony of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, and said, “Congress had raised many questions on the existence of Lord Ram. Even after they were invited to Ram Temple ‘Pran Pratishtha’ they boycotted it…Now, they have resolved and publically announced that they will destroy the ‘Shakti’ in Hindu religion.”

PM Modi was felicitated by BJP women leaders at the venue of his public meeting in Rishikesh. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami is also present there.

“Yesterday when I was in Tamil Nadu, India’s southern end, people were chanting ‘phir ek baar Modi Sarkaar’. Today, when I am in the lap of the Himalayas, at the foot of Baba Kedar and Badri Vishal, people here also are saying ‘phir ek baar Modi Sarkaar’. Same words are echoing everywhere,” he said.

PM Modi said the BJP government is continuously increasing rail, road and air connectivity in Uttarakhand.

“Work is underway on Rishikesh -Karanprayag railway line. Distance between Delhi to Dehradun is also reducing. Border villages which were called ‘last villages’ under Congress, are now being developed under BJP govt. Air services have started for Adi Kailash and Om Parvat. 900 km long highway is also being built to connect Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath,” the Prime Minister said.

This is the second rally of Prime Minister Modi in Uttarakhand. Earlier, the Prime Minister had also addressed a public meeting in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh on April 2.

Prime Minister Modi will address a public meeting on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. on the occasion of Gangaur in Karauli, Rajasthan.

The Prime Minister will address the Vijay Shankhnad rally in support of Indu Devi Jatav, the BJP candidate from Karauli-Dholpur Lok Sabha constituency. Along with the PM Modi, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and other BJP leaders will also be present in the rally.
