My Least Favorite Parts About SugarHouse Sportsbook

• Limits on successful bettors: Like other sportsbooks, SugarHouse limits how much you can bet if you start winning a lot. It’s a common practice that can be frustrating if you’re on a winning streak.
• Annoying desktop newsfeed: The desktop version has a newsfeed similar to BetRivers, showing recent casino wins. It's bulky and distracting, unnecessarily filling up screen space.

SugarHouse Sportsbook Odds Competitiveness

In my opinion, the best thing about SugarHouse is how competitive the odds are. SugarHouse regularly offers the best odds of all sportsbooks.

While most sportsbooks offer the standard -110 odds on most spread and total bets, SugarHouse regularly offers -108 or -109 odds. You can learn more about how to read betting odds here .

Still, it's always smart to use at least a few sportsbooks so you can shop around for the best odds. This doesn't take much time but is important to become a profitable sports bettor over time.

The SugarHouse Sportsbook intro promo for new customers is the same regardless of which state you bet in. 

It is a second chance bet up to $500. If your first bet loses, SugarHouse will offer you a refund in the form of a single bet up to the limit.

To claim the deposit match welcome bonus, simply register for an account and use the SugarHouse promo code ODDS1 when prompted. After this, make your first deposit and bet of at least $10.

You do have to bet the bonus bet (if you receive it) before you can withdraw it, but since there is only a  1x rollover requirement , you can withdraw winnings from the bet after only betting it once.

You must  use the bonus bet within 30 days  of receiving it or else you will forfeit the remaining balance.

In addition, you can only use the initial bet and bonus bet (assuming you receive it) on events with odds of -200 or longer (-110, +120, +300, etc.).

App & Website User Experience – My Takeaways

You can bet with SugarHouse through its website or mobile app (iOS & Android) depending on which state you are in.

If you are located in Pennsylvania, you'll have to use the SugarHouse website no matter if you are on a computer or your phone if you use an iPhone. If you have an Android phone, you can download the Play SugarHouse PA mobile app.

There is a SugarHouse CT mobile app that you can download to play if you're betting there.

SugarHouse PA Mobile Site

Since I don't have an Android device, I use the SugarHouse PA mobile site. While the following is directly based on that, much of what I say should hold true for the Android app as well.

To use the SugarHouse Sportsbook in Pennsylvania on your iPhone, you'll have to first download the GeoGuardLocation app to your phone so they can verify your location.  From there, either register or log in to SugarHouse PA via the mobile website and you should be all good to go. 

As for the user experience, it's worth first noting that mobile websites rarely have the same speed and responsiveness as mobile apps. With that being said, SugarHouse has done a pretty good job creating a nice experience on the mobile site. 

At the top of the screen, there is a horizontal menu that highlights popular sports, streamable games, specials, and more. This makes it easy to quickly find the sports and games you are looking for. You can click the Menu button in this menu that opens a vertical menu on the side of your screen where you can see even more options, including all sports.

Making selections

Once you click into a sport, it's pretty easy to see and choose the lines for games. You can also quickly tab over to live games and future bets.

The biggest problem with the mobile website, in my opinion, is once you click into a game. I find the odds display to be a bit random and hard to navigate (though not impossible by any means).

While SugarHouse offers  a ton  of alternate lines, there is typically no way to collapse the lists, forcing you to scroll through all those options to get to the next section. In addition, the player props aren't organized in a way where it's easy to compare different players because of how large the section for each individual is.

The bet slip is always located in the bottom right of your screen and you can see how many games you currently have selected via the numerical bubble there. Once you click it, you can easily switch between single bets, parlays, and round robins. In the parlay section, you can quickly make it a teaser too which is always a small, yet very useful, thing I look for in sportsbooks.

Overall, the SugarHouse Sportsbook PA mobile site is decent for a mobile website. While I always prefer an actual app, SugarHouse has done a good job creating a solid user experience with the mobile site.

The Single Game Parlay builder could use some work. 

It's not as nicely incorporated into the betting interface as it is with other sportsbooks. Instead, it pops up once you click it, making it isolated from the rest of the app. 

Also, it doesn't display the odds for those bets until you've added them to your bet slip.

This lineup is downright impressive. It’s a bit surprising that they haven’t dabbled in esports yet.

When it comes to props and futures bets—the key markers for market variety—SugarHouse stands strong. They offer a diverse range and some quite unique options.

You don’t need to dive into individual sports to find props. SugarHouse, similar to BetRivers, groups all props into Prop Central. This hub lets you filter prop bets across various sports. Here's what they offer for props in popular sports:

• NBA Props : Expect lines for both offensive and defensive statistics. Options cover assists, points, 3-point field goals made, steals, and blocks. They also feature yes/no props, like if an NBA player will achieve a double-double or triple-double.
• NFL Props : SugarHouse offers a wide range of NFL props, from rushing and receiving yards to sacks and touchdowns. 
• MLB Props : The Pitch by Pitch props are a highlight for me. Here, you get to predict the outcome of each pitch. They also offer innings lines and special bets for batters.
• NHL Props : You'll find scorer props, shots on goal, and bets like “At Least to Score X Points” for every NHL game. Plus, there’s a wealth of game props including total power play goals and lines for total shots on goal.
• Other Sports : Beyond the major leagues, the variety in prop bets dips a bit. In tennis, bets usually cover set and game spreads, plus tiebreaks. Soccer has its moments, like the unique prop bet on whether a player will deliver an assist.

Here are three sportsbooks that excel in prop betting, offering an even wider selection:

SugarHouse features a fairly standard assortment of futures markets, including options such as:

• Championship Winners (like World Series odds, Super Bowl odds, etc.)

• Conference winners
• Awards (Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, and more)

However, they do throw in some unique options not commonly found elsewhere. A standout for me is the “To make the play-in” bet in the NBA. This lets you wager on whether lower-seeded teams will reach the qualifying play-in tournament.

Live Betting

SugarHouse offers live betting on all major sports including football, baseball, basketball, hockey, tennis, golf, and much more. They even offer live betting on many less popular leagues such as Brazilian soccer and international cricket.

Note that lines often lock when betting live events—especially during big plays and critical moments—so if you go to place a wager and it's locked, just wait a few seconds for it to open back up.

On top of live betting, SugarHouse also allows you to cash out of most of your bets early. This works with both single bets on games that are still in progress as well as parlays. For example, if you bet a 4-leg parlay tonight and the first 3 selections hit, you may be able to cash out for an amount lower than the full payout if all 4 legs hit. 

Finally, SugarHouse lets users live stream select games directly within the app or website. Look for the “Live Streaming” button in the top menu to see what games are currently available for streaming.

We ranked SugarHouse as a 9 out of 10 for odds boosts and promotions outside of the intro promo.

Odds Boosts

SugarHouse doesn't call them “odds boosts” like other sportsbooks; instead, they are called “House Specials.” They work similarly to other books, however.

Every day, SugarHouse will give better odds on around 5 to 15 bets. Most often, these have odds of +180 or higher (+300, +400, etc.).

I do wish SugarHouse showed what the odds were boosted from like other sportsbooks. For example, DraftKings will say something along the lines of “+250 (was +200)” when showing boosts. This helps you get an idea of how much of a deal you are getting on the selection.

SugarHouse doesn't hold back on promotions. Right now, they're running over 10 ongoing promotions. That's more than any other sportsbook I've come across. However, it's worth noting that a good number of these promotions are focused on the casino side.

They're big on insurance promos, offering several when most sportsbooks might have one or none.

Here are the promotions I spotted at SugarHouse while making this revew:

• Refer-a-Friend : By inviting your friends to join SugarHouse, you can earn up to $500. 
• Squares : SugarHouse has these quirky promotions for football and basketball. In these, you predict the fin.al score in a unique way. It's an engaging twist on traditional betting
• Early lead insurance : SugarHouse rolls out insurance promos for various sports. Here's the deal: if the team you bet on with a moneyline wager leads at halftime but loses later on, you get your stake back up to a certain amount. It's a nice safety net.
• Bet & get : This type of promotion is often reserved for new customers at other sportsbooks, but SugarHouse extends it to all users. Basically, after you bet a certain amount on a specific market, SugarHouse rewards you with a bonus
• Parlay insurance : With this promo, you'll receive cash back if you miss just one pick in your parlay. It's a great way to reduce the sting of a near miss.
• SGP profit boost: SugarHouse offers a bonus boost for parlays that meet a specific number of selections. The more legs you add, the bigger the bonus you get.

Loyalty Program

SugarHouse's tier-based rewards program is called iRush Rewards. By placing sports bets and wagers in the online casino, you can unlock special offers, free gifts, access to VIP events, expedited withdrawals, and more.

The more you bet, the more points you earn towards the iRush Rewards Program.

One of the great things about the bonus bets and bonuses that come with the program is that there is always a 1x rollover—meaning that you only have to bet the rewards credit one time before you are able to withdraw it. Other books often require a 5x rollover or more before allowing withdrawals.

Note that if you stop wagering for a period of time, the rewards tier you are in will likely drop. This is something that customers often complain about in reviews. I have also seen some claiming that they never received the benefits promised to them at certain tiers.

I think BetMGM (MGM Rewards Program) and Caesars Sportsbook (Caesars Rewards) have better loyalty programs, but SugarHouse is no slouch either.

• Live streaming : SugarHouse offers extensive streaming coverage of mainstream sports. What's great is they have a special section just for live streams, making it easy to catch live sporting events directly through their platform.
• Same game parlays : This feature allows players to combine multiple selections from the same game into a single bet. Simply click on the “Same Game Parlay” tab to explore the available options for same game parlays .
• Quick Pick : This is essentially a random parlay generator. When you select a sport, it presents several automatically generated parlay options with increasing odds. 
• Community chat : A social feature that lets you interact with other users. SugarHouse often hosts giveaways, along with entertaining quizzes and trivia games, through this platform. It's a great way to engage with the community and potentially score some extra perks.

SugarHouse Sportsbook Background

The SugarHouse Casino—now known as the Rivers Casino Philadelphia—was granted its Pennsylvania gaming license in 2006. After a few years of disputes with the city and development, the SugarHouse Casino opened in September 2010.

Just under a decade later in August 2018, the owners of SugarHouse, Rush Street Interactive, launched the SugarHouse Sportsbook in New Jersey, making it the second online sportsbook in NJ.

In May 2019, SugarHouse became the first approved online sports betting site in Pennsylvania and in October 2021, SugarHouse became one of the first three online sportsbooks in CT—though it shut down operations in CT in March 2023.

Today, SugarHouse remains one of the most popular sportsbooks in PA. It just recently rebranded to BetRivers in NJ. There is also a BetRivers Online Casino that is available in MI, NJ, PA, and WV.

Latest Developments

On Monday, February 19, 2024, SugarHouse ceased operations in Connecticut. They had been managing both a sportsbook and an online casino in the Constitution State.

SugarHouse Sportsbook Review

SugarHouse Sportsbook PA launches

On May 28, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board approved SugarHouse Sportsbook PA to begin its live testing period .

Three days later, SugarHouse officially launched its mobile sports betting app in PA.

SugarHouse parent Company Rush Street, which will rebrand SugarHouse Sportsbook to  Rivers Sportsbook  this summer, is having trouble getting the PlaySugarHouse app approved in the Apple iOS App Store. We were first to report on this and explained the issue in detail here .

Users can still sign up to bet with SugarHouse and claim their $250 deposit bonus on desktop, iOS and Android, but bets can only be placed on a desktop or Android app. This is a somewhat confusing signup process SugarHouse is working to address.

Only 12 legal sports betting apps will be available to the public in PA, with most operators choosing to brand their apps with their own name. SugarHouse Sportsbook launched in New Jersey on August 23, 2018 , adding a sports betting option to its PlaySugarHouse.com app. They became the second operator to offer online sports betting in New Jersey behind DraftKings. Upon its initial release, SugarHouse Sportsbook offereds players a wide-ranging variety of sports to bet on and an exhaustive list of wagering options within each of those sports. Particularly of note, the rollout includes an increasingly popular live-ticket system, or “ cash out” option , similar to DraftKings Sportsbook, which allows bettors to hedge before the outcome of a bet is determined. Traditional pre-game wagers with a variety of alternate odds are available, as are parlays and futures bets. The SugarHouse Sportsbook also offers an astounding set of live betting options with in-play props, play outcomes, alternative game lines, and totals behind a simple and easy-to-navigate interface.

Getting started with SugarHouse Sportsbook

Like all other mobile sports betting apps, the PlaySugarHouse app uses geo-location technology to ensure bets are being placed only in the state of New Jersey. One thing that I like about the app is that you don’t have to sign up in order to see get a look at its functionality or different options. You can do a self-tour, peak around, and get a feel for what it’s about. Once doing so, my guess is that you will want to create an account . Upon signing up, be prepared to enter a valid driver’s license or state identification. To expedite the process, the app offers an optional fast-registration that snaps a picture of your license or state ID card.

As a bonus, your initial deposit (which requires a $10 minimum) will be matched up to $250.

PA users can use their PlaySugarHouse account from New Jersey, but will have to reconfirm their identity.

Funding your account

Getting money into your account is quick and easy. From the cashier menu, users can fund their accounts with the following methods.  Note : Not all of these methods are available for SugarHouse Sportsbook in PA:

Getting money into your account is easy, and so is getting it out. I personally executed a haggle-free cash out straight to my checking account shortly after the app’s launch and received the money in a timely fashion. The PlaySugarHouse app has been around for a while and it shows– deposit and withdraw options are much better than New Jersey sports betting competitors for in the early going.

The app immediately draws users to a banner that showcases the day’s featured events, promotions, and ads for casino betting. There is also a list of that sporting events broken up by time, a sliding menu of live/upcoming and futures bets, and a search function that allows you to find action by sport, league, or team.

Once within a specific game, SugarHouse Sportsbook offers numerous betting options available for both novice and more experienced bettors. For example, a standard baseball betting options include: moneyline, run line, game totals, alternative game lines, single-game parlays, scoring props, inning props, and player props. You can get a feel for the menu design:

In terms of betting lines offered, I did a quick look at DraftKings Sportsbook and SugarHouse Sportsbook– both use the gaming technology company Kambi for its odds, so the lines and odds offered between the two apps should be identical. Upon my initial use of each app, it does appear that the SugarHouse app offers a few additional action by inning. I don’t know if that’s the case across the board, but I will say at the very least that I found the SugarHouse Sportsbook individual game menu easier to navigate.

One new wrinkle to the PA version of the SugarHouse sports betting website is a slider that allow you to drag to your desired odds.

Once into your betting options, SugarHouse Sportsbook offers all of the action that you would expect:

Alternate lines

The individual lines sit in white font in individual blue boxes making a selected wager clearly identifiable and easy to execute. Upon selecting your bet, a pop-up overly will appear which asks for a risk amount and has a large “place bet” button that locks in the wager.

Live betting

Actually, it doesn’t lock in your wager at all, and that’s because there is also a live-ticket system that allows you cash out of a bet at a profit if a game shifts in your favor, or at a hedged loss if things aren’t going well. We explained more about this when DraftKings Sportsbook debuted the feature . This allows bettors the flexibility to read and react to an event as it unfolds. For instance, if the Phillies bullpen enters a tie game in the seventh inning and a bettor wants to get out before the inevitable crash, they can do so. The ability to minimize risk, ensure profits, and hedge bets will fundamentally change the way sports bettors approach betting. Placing a bet is no longer a send it in pray process. I do warn, however, to be careful with this feature. Bettors who overreact to the inevitable highs and lows of a sporting event have a chance to sell a potentially lucrative ticket at a fraction of its worth or needlessly hedge a stressful bet that eventually wins.

Other live betting options are available, too. Baseball offerings include the outcome of specific at-bats, if a run will be scored in an inning, and at-bat level bets. We will update our look at live betting options once the first weekend of college football and NFL seasons are completed.

Player limits and responsible gambling

It appears to at least some extent the New Jersey DGE is requiring all online sportsbooks to inform its users of potential gambling pitfalls and provide resources and tools available to those who need them.

The app allows bettors to set daily, weekly, and monthly deposit and spending limits. This ensures that a person won’t wildly throw money into the account or chase high loss totals once it is there. Volume-wise, there are tens of thousands of wagers on offer on any given day. For example, the NFL tab at SugarHouse Sportsbooks had 750 unique bets available on a preseason weekday. That number spikes considerably during the regular season.

This type of volume is achieved not only by offering a large number of bets for high-profile games but by also offering a considerable number of wagers within smaller markets.

Keep in mind it was impossible to capture the full list of bets for either game with a single screenshot. The soccer screenshot in particular shows the true extent of the options at hand – the number displayed on the right side of each blue bar listing different categories of wagers shows how many wagers were offered for that particular category. In all, that one soccer game had nearly 300 wagers to choose from.

PlaySugarHouse Betting App Interface

The people at SugarHouse Sportsbook did well in releasing the desktop platform, iOS app, and Android app all at once. From day one, players were granted access to the full range of sports betting options regardless if they were visiting from home or while on the go.

SugarHouse Sportsbook shares the same platform and tech provider as BetRivers, making it effectively the same sportsbook with a different logo. This is a positive fact because BetRivers is widely regarded as one of the better national online sportsbooks, although not one without its flaws.

The interface initially suffered from some cluttering issues, but has since been updated to be less jarring. There’s still a lot going on, but the addition of several categorical layers helps tremendously. Now, players that click into a betting market from either the top nav bar or sidebar (on desktop) will automatically be shown “Live” events if there are any, and have the option to flip to the “Upcoming” or “Futures” menus.

For each event, PlaySugarHouse displays whether a game is in play, the number of available bets, frontline wagers like moneylines and totals, if the event is being streamed, and if it’s eligible for same-game parlays. It somehow manages to squeeze all this information in a way that isn’t intrusive. Switching between leagues within a market is now handled via a smartly tucked away drop-down menu.

The main flaw of market pages is that PlaySugarHouse plasters SGP Quick Picks at the top of the page. These are usually poor wagers and take up way too much screen real estate. Ironically, the mobile app feels less cluttered than the desktop platform. This is mainly because the desktop app features a rather annoying casino newsfeed and additional SGP menus that force the betting menus into a more confined space.

Click into a game to view the entire betting menu. Wagers are broken down into smart categories, although the first few categories are usually “Same Game Parlays”, prepacked parlays, and game combos (which are essentially 2-leg parlays). This feels slightly too predatory, as all of these betting markets have high house edges. However, bettors looking for quick parlays will find them here.

The other categories are more traditional, spanning player props, game props, derivatives, and more. For larger markets, the categories get extremely granular, to better account for the large number of betting options. SugarHouse does a particularly good job with its alternative lines menu. Instead of displaying each individual line, they’re placed on a simple and space-conserving slider.

Clicking on any individual wager brings up a bet slip in which you can input your intended bet amount to see exactly how much you are risking and how much you stand to win. Players can also add more bets to convert their wager into a parlay, SGP, or round-robin. In-play bets are processed quickly, but you’ll often have to approve new odds and limits, especially if you’ve been winning lately.

Select “place bet” to confirm the wager. If your bet is a winner, you’ll be paid almost immediately.

PlaySugarHouse Sportsbook Betting Odds

Overall, SugarHouse Sportsbook offers fair lines, but some markets are better than others. For instance, the lines on pregame MLB, soccer, tennis, and UFC are generally solid, but players can find better odds for PGA, NASCAR, and boxing elsewhere.

NFL lines are par for the course, with point spreads and totals usually posted at -110/-110, and moneyline vigorish in the range of 4-5%.

In-play vigorish runs slightly higher than industry norms, with a house edge averaging between 6-9% depending on the market. However, BettingUSA finds that the house edge on prop bets is actually quite low compared to the competition.

One other issue with the betting odds is that they’re not unique to PlaySugarHouse. Players can find Kambi lines on several other sports betting apps, but the problem isn’t quite as bad now that DraftKings Sportsbook and Barstool Sportsbook have changed providers.

SugarHouse Sportsbook In-Play Betting

The SugarHouse sports app and full desktop version both support live, in-play betting. Selecting “Live NOW” on the mobile app will take you to a listing of games that are in progress right now and which have in-play betting markets.

Choose any game that’s in progress now and you’ll see a list of all wagers available for that game. The odds are constantly updated in real-time, allowing you to place wagers at any point during the course of the game.

For instance, you can watch half an Eagles vs. Giants game to get a feel for the momentum before heading to SugarHouse Sportsbook to place a bet on who will win. Most of the standard bets that you would normally place before the game are also available in-play, but at updated odds based on how the game has been going. The house edge on in-play bets is higher than on similar pregame markets, but that’s the case with every sportsbook.

You’ll also see an “instant betting” category during some live events that provide even shorter-term wagers such as the outcome of the next batter, how many free throws will be made, and so on. These wagers last only a few seconds but offer instant payouts throughout the game to keep things interesting from start to finish.

SugarHouse Live Streaming Sports

SugarHouse Online offers live-streaming sports video to customers through a deal reached with IMG Arena in May 2019. The original deal only included live tennis streams but has been expanded to include soccer, basketball, select baseball games, and even beach volleyball and darts. The only drawback is that players must have a funded account to live stream games.

The deal with IMG Arena includes live odds straight from the source. Back when the service launched, a press release issued by IMG explained that umpires enter data themselves and that data is transmitted instantly to SugarHouse Sportsbook customers.

The addition of streaming sports video gave SugarHouse a major competitive advantage over every other betting app in the country, but others have caught up.

PlaySugarHouse Pennsylvania

The SugarHouse PA betting app is nearly identical to its sister site BetRivers regarding function, feel, and wagering options.

Unfortunately, the mobile app itself is overall, functional but lacks the browser-based interface organization. Mainly, the mobile app lacks the easy navigation of the web-based browser. The entire menu of available bets is missing. Thus, you may only use the search bar to locate bets that you want to make. The mobile app is challenging to browse available odds except for the ‘Live Right Now' bets.
