Speech about love [1,2,3,5 minutes], 1, 2, 3 minute speech on love.

Dear class fellows, students and my teachers,

Greetings to all and thank you to all of you to give me a chance to speak on love.

I want to talk about something really awesome today – love, especially the love we share with our parents.

Love is an amazing feeling and its all about caring with someone.

Your mom and dad take care of you, they help you when you’re sad or sick, and they happy for you when you do cool things. Oh My friends! I want to tell you that it is an actual face of true love.

When you mess up or make mistakes, they still love you.

Love with parents is super special. It’s not just about saying “I love you.” It’s also about doing things together, like playing games, helping each other, or just talking and laughing.

Sometimes, you might feel a bit upset, and that’s okay. Your parents are there to give you big, warm hugs and make things better.

Love with parents is a bit like a magic power. It makes you feel safe, happy, and all warm inside. It’s like a super cozy blanket for your heart.

So, let’s appreciate our parents’ love. Tell them that you love them. I advice to all of you that please daily spend some time with parents.

Dear class fellows! Thanks for listening, and go share some love with your amazing parents!

5 Minutes Speech on Love

Dear teachers and students!

Greetings to all. and thank you to all of your to give me a chance to speak on love.

Love is a strong feeling that has the ability to unite people and give them a sense of true life. It may come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from romantic love between partners to love between family and friends.

Love is an activity as well as a sensation. It entails providing someone with support and caring while also making sacrifices to ensure their happiness. It involves prioritising the needs of others and supporting them in both good and terrible circumstances.

Although it is not always simple, true love is worthwhile. It necessitates forbearance, tolerance, and patience. It is about developing mutually and assisting one another’s personal and marital progress.

Love involves more than simply enjoying the good times; it also involves overcoming obstacles as a couple. It is about supporting one another even when times are difficult. There are many different kinds of love and I am here to tell you about the types of love. • The romantic love • the love of friends • The love with books • the love of companions • The love with pets • the love of family, • spiritual love and many other loves

To sum up, love is a crucial aspect of the human experience. It gives our life meaning and purpose and is what actually makes us feel alive. Love is something to be cherished and fostered, whether it is the love between lovers or the love between family and friends.

A Short Speech on Love ❤️

Red Lighted Candles Christmas Gift

Love, surprisingly, has been equated with emotions. But is it all that is there to it? Emotions keep changing; don’t they? Today, you feel madly in love with someone; when the sun rises the next day you wonder where all the “love” you felt yesterday has gone; don’t you?

Blood Jesus Cleanse

So love does not properly belong to the realm of emotions; though emotions do colour our love with all kinds of splashes. Then what is love?

It is basically a decision to hold the other person in the highest esteem , value him or her above all else, and cherish that person like no other and hold him or her so close and dear to one’s heart.

Love is not about getting; it is about giving. Love is not about selfishness; it is about sacrifice. Love is not about being on top of the charts; it is about humility, the willingness to serve. Love is not about bragging; it is about doing things for the other without advertising. Love is not about covering up evil; it is about being transparent and living in the light. Love is not about falsehood; it is about speaking the truth.

Love is not static; it grows. The love of a parent for a child grows along with years; the love of a husband for his wife ideally should grow along with years and vice versa. The limitless potential for growth, for discovery, for being surprised, for finding joy in little things, are all what makes love, love.

Finally, we cannot think on love without thinking of God. The well known passage in the Bible speaks about love in this compelling way: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” * Not one of us can earn this love; but each one of us can respond to it.

So love is a response as well. Wishing you an ever-increasing capacity to respond to God’s everlasting love for you, the love of the members of your family , your friends and colleagues, and all those whom you come into contact with. At times when you respond in love to hate and evil behaviour, the other is also constrained to love!

Jesus—the Friend of Sinners!
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered , it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”

— 1 Corinthians 13:4–8 Bible

Famous Speeches Sure to Inspire Your Next Declaration of Love

By Marisa Polansky and Kristine Keller

Whether it’s your new boo, your old BFF, or your tattooed barista, someone in your life is worthy of a little love. But articulating the abstract, undefinable feeling of l-o-v-e can be a pain in the . . . you know what.

We’ve worked on many beautiful speeches, but the most memorable professions of love? They don’t hold anything back. They’re honest and enthusiastic and unforgivingly passionate. So to help you express yourself like a pro, we’ve compiled a list of top speeches sure to inspire declarations of love to just about anyone in your life.

For your significant other who supports you from afar—and with whom you wish you had more red carpet photos: Ryan Gosling wins a Golden Globe in 2017 and takes the opportunity to thank his behind-the-scenes support system, Eva Mendes. And while the rest of us might have fawned more than Mendes, it had to have made her knees at least a little weak. Gosling reminds us that when it comes to a happily ever after, it takes two. Bella Hadid’s Cannes Bikini Is a Summer Mood

For your never-could-there-ever-be-a-smarter-cooler-stronger soulmate: The mic drop heard ’round the world. Though you’ll likely not be speaking to your sweetheart as the president of the United States, take a cue from number 44, who keeps it real in the most unreal of circumstances. In his last speech as POTUS, Obama applauds Michelle’s ability to take on the First Lady role “with grace, and with grit, and with style.” And if you’re lucky enough to find yourself a Michelle, you’ll need to deliver many speeches like this. She deserves it.

For that person who seeks light in the darkness: At a time when the world is at risk of forgetting the importance of love, Lin-Manuel Miranda has the perfect message to remind us that, “Love is love is love is love is love is love is love, cannot be killed or swept aside.” His words at the 2016 Tony’s spotlight the idea that love and kindness really can conquer all. (Minutes 1:50–2:46)

For your best and oldest friend who inspires you—and looks real good in a tuxedo: Before Barack and Joe, there was Matt and Ben, whose friendship inspired bromances, matching necklaces, and a Mindy Kaling off-Broadway play. From Beantown to Tinseltown, the pair shows us how best to conquer the world with your best friend forever. Their 1997 Academy Awards speech reminds us that before Gigli and Bourne , they were just two dudes from Boston with a lot of enthusiasm for some guy named Chris Moore. (Minutes 0:45–1:52)

For all the old friends who made you a survivor: Let’s face it: Not everyone is meant to be in your life for always. But even those once-upon-a-time friends were there at a time when you needed them. Or, if you’re Beyoncé, they, ya know, helped make you Beyoncé. In the classiest speech to ever grace the 2011 Billboard Music Awards, Queen Bey thanks all the founding members of Destiny’s Child, saying their name (saying their name) before she—bonus—calls out Jay Z in the cutest shout-out ever. (Minutes 9:00–10:53)

For the people who maybe you don’t always get along with but, hey, there’s love for them too: At the Screen Actors Guild Awards last month, Mahershala Ali proves there’s enough love to go around and that, sometimes, differences can be beautiful. Just as you’ll always have people in your life who disagree with you, you’ll always have a choice on how to react to them. So why not choose love? (From 1:00–2:00, or the whole speech)

For a parent who inspired you and put up with all your ridiculous hairdos: At the 2014 Academy Awards, Jared Leto tells the unlikely story of a young high school dropout who, against all odds, creates a happy life for her family. Spoiler alert: That girl is his mother and her child now has an Oscar. Let this speech be your inspiration when thanking Mom and Dad, whose early struggles paved the way for your achievements. (Minutes 1:36–2:24)

For all the people who make you feel seen and appreciated and validated: It’s hard to believe that a goddess like Sally Field could ever feel unlikable—and yet, her Academy Awards speech from 1985 tells otherwise. Though it’s famously misquoted as “You like me! You really like me!” the sentiment holds true. Sometimes external validation ain’t such a bad thing. This Valentine’s Day, maybe it’s your turn to do a little validating. (From 3:20–3:50)

For the coworker you’ve thanked too silently in the past: Sometimes people need to hear your appreciation a little bit louder now. Here, Cuba Gooding Jr. accepts his 1997 Oscar by literally shouting praise to those who helped him along the way. Let this speech inspire your own standing ovation for all the coworkers who’ve helped you organize Outlook. (1:10–1:57)

For your insanely precocious daughter who inspires your funniest one-liners: They may pick their noses in your presence. They may make you park seven blocks away when you pick them up from school. But your kids also challenge you to look at life through a different lens, making you a little wiser and, most likely, a lot funnier. At the 2009 SAG Awards, Tina Fey shows us the right way to say thank you for using all my makeup. (2:28–3:24)

20 shakespeare quotes about love.

give a short speech about love

The word “love” appears 2,146 times in Shakespeare’s collected works (including a handful of “loves” and “loved”). Add to that 59 instances of “ be loved” and 133 uses of “lov ing ” and you’ve got yourself a “whole lotta love.” So, what does Shakespeare have to say about the subject? Here are 20 quotations from the Bard about love.

“What is Love?”

What does Shakespeare have to say about love? Let’s start with the basics.

give a short speech about love

“Love is not love Which alters when it alteration finds, Or bends with the remover to remove: O no! it is an ever-fixed mark That looks on tempests and is never shaken.”

– Sonnet 116

In an interview on  Shakespeare Unlimited ,  Folger Director Emerita Gail Kern Paster noted that Sonnet 116 is a frequent choice for wedding toasts. Barbara Mowat and Paul Werstine, editors of The Folger Shakespeare, wrote of this famous sonnet, “The poet here meditates on what he sees as the truest and strongest kind of love, that between minds. He defines such a union as unalterable and eternal.”

give a short speech about love

“A lover’s eyes will gaze an eagle blind. A lover’s ear will hear the lowest sound, When the suspicious head of theft is stopped. Love’s feeling is more soft and sensible Than are the tender horns of cockled snails. . . . And when love speaks, the voice of all the gods Make heaven drowsy with the harmony.”

– Love’s Labor’s Lost , Act 4, scene 3, lines 328 – 339

In  Love’s Labor’s Lost, the King of Navarre and his three friends vow to spend three years cloistered from the world, studying, fasting, and seeing no women. But as soon as they’ve signed the contract, the Princess of France and her three pals show up to meet with the King. Of course, everyone immediately falls in love and the four men have to figure out how to extricate themselves from their solemn oaths. In Act 4, scene 3, Berowne, the wittiest of the four fellows, argues that love, not rigorous study, will make them better men. In fact, Berowne says, love is like a superpower that “gives to every power a double power.” The full speech is a beautiful testament to the gifts of love.

Crude, hand-drawn image of Venus and Cupid from the Trevelyon Miscellany. Cupid wears a blindfold.

“Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind, And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind.”

– A Midsummer Night’s Dream , Act 1, scene 1, lines 240 – 241

In Shakespeare’s time, Cupid was often depicted wearing a blindfold. In the Trevelyon Miscellany, a 1608 manuscript collection of patterns, notes, quotations, rhymes, and more from the Folger’s collection, compiler Thomas Trevelyon notes:

Venus the lady of love inflameth the heart. . . then Cupid her son shooteth his dart, and being blind, some times striketh with his arrow of love, and some time with his arrow of hatred, but at all times so shooteth that his arrows tend to love, in the beginning, though afterwards discords arise betwixt lovers.

Romeo, perhaps Shakespeare’s most famous lover, also describes Love this way: “Alas that love, whose view is muffled still, / Should without eyes see pathways to his will” ( Romeo and Juliet,  1.1).

“Love comforteth like sunshine after rain.”

– Venus and Adonis , line 799

“There’s beggary in the love that can be reckoned.”

– Antony and Cleopatra ,  Act 1, scene 1, line 16

Cleopatra tells Antony she’ll “set a bourn”—a boundary or limit—”how far to be beloved.” Antony tells her, “Then must thou needs find out new heaven, new Earth.” This is a fun activity to do with your partner: ask them to describe the physical extent of their love for you, then build a fence there together.

“What is love? ‘Tis not hereafter: Present mirth hath present laughter.”

– Twelfth Night , Act 2, scene 3, line 48

Seize the day! Love, Feste’s song suggests, is best enjoyed in the present: “What’s to come is still unsure. / in delay there lies no plenty, / Then come kiss me, sweet and twenty. / Youth’s a stuff will not endure.” (Playwright Noël Coward borrowed the phrase “present laughter” for the title of his play about an actor who has just turned 40). The idea is echoed in a song from the penultimate scene of As You Like It,  in which the characters sing, “And therefore take the present time. . . / For love is crownéd with the prime” (5.3).

“Letters Full of Love”

So you’re in love: what kind of things are you supposed to say? Here are a few romantic quotations from Shakespeare to make your lover’s heart go pitter-patter.

give a short speech about love

“I do love nothing in the world so well as you—is not that strange?”

– Much Ado About Nothing , Act 4, scene 1, line 281

Benedick and Beatrice, everybody’s favorite Shakespearean couple, provide us with a few of the most romantic lines in Shakespeare. See also: “I love you with so much of my heart that none is left to protest” (4.1.300), and “I will live in thy heart, die in thy lap, and be buried in thy eyes” (5.2.101).

“My bounty is as boundless as the sea, My love as deep. The more I give to thee, The more I have, for both are infinite.”

– Romeo and Juliet , Act 2, scene 2, lines 140 – 142

“Thy sweet love remembered such wealth brings That then I scorn to change my state with kings.”

– Sonnet 29

“I kiss thee with a most constant heart.”

– Henry IV, Part 2 , Act 2, scene 4, line 274

“A heaven on earth I have won by wooing thee.”

– All’s Well That Ends Well ,  Act 4, scene 2, line 78

give a short speech about love

“When you do dance, I wish you A wave o’ th’ sea, that you might ever do Nothing but that. . . “

– The Winter’s Tale , Act 4, scene 4, line 166 – 168

“So are you to my thoughts as food to life, Or as sweet-seasoned showers are to the ground.”

– Sonnet 75

This sonnet isn’t quite so rapturous as its opening lines sound. We need food to live, but sometimes we eat too much. Things that grow in the earth need water, but too much rain will cause a flood. In Sonnet 75, the speaker finds that sometimes his passion can become unpleasantly overwhelming.

“I would not wish any companion in the world but you.”

– The Comedy of Errors ,  Act 3, scene 2, line 72

“Love is a Devil”

Anyone who has experienced “the pangs of despised love” ( Hamlet,  3.1) knows that love doesn’t always end well. Shakespeare also wrote a lot about the challenges of being in love.

give a short speech about love

“The course of true love never did run smooth.”

– A Midsummer Night’s Dream ,  Act 1, scene 1, line 136

This line from Lysander might as well be  Midsummer’s  thesis statement; its central couples spend the whole play breaking up, making up, and, in Titania’s case, cuddling up with enchanted donkey-man Bottom.

“If music be the food of love, play on. Give me excess of it, that, surfeiting, The appetite may sicken and so die.”

– Twelfth Night , Act 1, scene 1, line 1 – 3

Twelfth Night’s  opening line is one of Shakespeare’s most famous. But Duke Orsino goes on to say how miserable being in love makes him feel. “If music be the food of love,” he says, keep playing and fill me up so that I don’t feel this way any more!

“Love is a smoke rais’d with the fume of sighs; Being purg’d, a fire sparkling in a lover’s eyes; Being vex’d, a sea nourish’d with lovers’ tears: What is it else? a madness most discreet, A choking gall and a preserving sweet.”

– Romeo and Juliet , Act 1, scene 1, lines 197 – 201

“If thou rememb’rest not the slightest folly That ever love did make thee run into, Thou has not loved.”

– As You Like It , Act 2, scene 3, lines 33 – 35

As You Like It has a lot to say about what it’s like to be in love. In Act 3, Rosalind tells Orlando that a true lover has “a lean cheek. . . a blue eye and sunken. . .  an unquestionable spirit. . . a beard neglected.” If you’re really in love, Rosalind says, “your hose should be ungartered, your bonnet unbanded, your sleeve unbuttoned, your shoe untied, and everything about you demonstrating a careless desolation” (3.2). But how do lovers keep from tripping over their shoelaces?

In Act 2, scene 1 of Hamlet , when Ophelia is telling her father Polonius about Hamlet’s recent behavior, her description sounds a lot like Rosalind’s description of a lover:

Lord Hamlet, with his doublet all unbraced, No hat upon his head, his stockings fouled, Ungartered, and down-gyvèd to his ankle, Pale as his shirt, his knees knocking each other, And with a look so piteous in purport As if he had been loosèd out of hell To speak of horrors—he comes before me.

It’s not surprising that Polonius immediately guesses that Hamlet is in “ the very ecstasy of love.”

“When you depart from me, sorrow abides and happiness takes his leave.”

– Much Ado About Nothing , Act 1, scene 1, lines 99 – 100

2 Minute Speech On Love In English

Good morning to everyone in this room. I’d want to thank the principal, the teachers, and my dear friends for allowing me to speak to you today about the love. The most important thing in a person’s life is love. It is covered in every branch of science and every great work of literature. Humans are social beings as well.

We have been living this way for ages; we rely on one another to tell us how our clothes fit and whether we seem healthy or thin. We receive the frank opinions of individuals who care about us, love us, and prioritize our happiness in all of these matters.

With intense feelings of attachment, love is a collection of feelings, actions, and beliefs. So a person may declare, for instance, that they love their dog, freedom, or God. The idea of love could transform into something unfathomable, and it might also occur to each individual differently.

Love may have many different attitudes, sentiments, and emotions. For some people, love is an emotional bond rather than merely a physical interest in another person. We might say that a person’s love for another person is more of a feeling. So, to feel more than just like someone is to experience love.

Love is a special gift that may mold us and our lives. As a result, we can say that love is a fundamental human need. It is essential to our way of life, to society, and relationships. In a trying period, it provides us with energy and motivation. Finally, we can conclude that it surpasses all other aspects of existence. Thank you.

Short Sweet Love Poems

A love poem will not always be long and flowery. Sometimes what you need to say can be very short. In fact it may be the fact that the poem is short that makes it special. Its short length may show that you put the time and effort in to make every word count. You considered carefully every word choice. Every word choice has a reason behind it. A short poem can be the ultimate act of romance when it is given the time and effort that it deserves.

Plato’s Symposium: Diotima’s Speech on Love

What does Diotima say about love in Plato’s Symposium ? How does her concept of love relate to beauty?

In Plato’s Symposium , Diotima’s speech centers on the human experience of love rather than its purpose or benefits. She concludes that the main object of love is not beauty. Rather, it’s goodness. However, she argues that beauty is integral to a good life and introduces the concept of the “ascent”—a process of learning to appreciate beauty in all its forms.

In this article, we’ll explore Diotima’s views on love by explaining what humans love, why humans love, and how humans should love.

What We Love

In Plato’s Symposium , Diotima explores love and how it relates to beauty. She suggests that, instead of beauty, the main object of human love is goodness. This is because goodness brings people happiness—a meaningful life well-lived. By definition, a good life is a happy life.

Furthermore, Diotima concludes that humans desire immortality: If people have good things, they desire to continue having them. Therefore, people want to permanently have good things. The longer someone lives, the longer they can have good things, so by desiring goodness people desire immortality.

(Shortform note: To understand what Plato means by happiness, it helps to consider the original Greek word: eudaimonia. Eudaimonia is usually translated to “happiness,” though it doesn’t entirely match our modern definition. While we usually think of happiness as a temporary positive emotion, eudaimonia refers to an overall state of living life excellently . The stabler, longer-lasting state of eudaimonia also explains why Diotima says people want permanent good—she’s saying people want to always live excellently, not that they want to always experience pure joy or bliss.)

Why We Love

Diotima suggests that the purpose of love is reproduction, either in a physical sense (creating a child) or a mental sense (creating virtue and wisdom). Creating physical or mental offspring is the closest a human can get to becoming immortal (and therefore permanently having good things). An individual’s offspring will live much longer than they do—physical children will carry on parts of their ancestors, and great works of art, ideas, or virtuous acts are often remembered long after the death of their creators.

Diotima emphasizes in particular the importance of mental children—a great work or great deed lives far longer than any physical child, and therefore brings its parent closer to immortality.

(Shortform note: It seems like Plato contradicts his other dialogues here by saying we reproduce because we desire immortality. In several of his other works (including the Meno and Phaedo ), Plato argues that people have immortal souls (his idea of the soul is similar to the mind or the self) that are reborn into many different bodies. This raises the question: If our souls are immortal, then why is reproduction the closest we can get to immortality? Some scholars argue that this is an inconsistency where Plato temporarily appeals to a more pragmatic, skeptical viewpoint . Others suggest that in the Symposium , Plato talks about individual immortality—immortality of one person rather than of their soul (which over time inhabits many people).)

Love as Reproduction

According to Diotima, everyone is pregnant in some way—every individual has the potential to create physical or mental offspring. However, people can only give birth in the presence of beauty :

In a physical sense, beauty excites people to seek out suitable sexual partners and makes them happy and relaxed enough to engage in sex (or, later on, childbirth).

(Shortform note: You might wonder why Diotima suggests that males and females can become physically pregnant. Scholars suggest that Plato refers to ejaculation as the male form of pregnancy and childbirth : An aroused male is pregnant and gives birth upon ejaculating. This conception of male childbirth further cements the connection Plato’s trying to make between beauty and childbirth—beauty inspires sexual arousal which allows a male to “give birth” and ejaculate during intercourse.)

In a mental sense, a beautiful body or beautiful mind inspires new ideas. Particularly, Diotima suggests that a beloved with a beautiful mind and body can inspire a lover to birth excellent intellectual offspring. These intellectual children are speeches on virtue or wisdom that make up the educational component of a pederastic relationship.

(Shortform note: Plato seems to have two competing ideas on intellectual offspring in a pederastic relationship. He mentions one just above: A beautiful beloved inspires their lover to birth intellectual offspring. However, Plato’s Theaetetus suggests that Socrates acts as a “midwife of the soul”—just as a normal midwife helps deliver physical offspring, Socrates helps deliver mental offspring. This metaphor suggests that the lover (Socrates) actually inspires the beloved to birth intellectual offspring. Scholars suggest that this contradiction might result from Plato’s personality and ambiguous feelings on homosexual desire —the Symposium ’s view seems to celebrate these desires, while the Theaetetus takes a more restrained approach.)

How We Should Love

Since people only give birth in the presence of beauty, it follows that beauty is crucial for a good life—even if it isn’t the main goal of love. Diotima then explains how to pursue beauty and birth offspring in a way that leads to the happiest life possible.

Diotima explains that the best way to pursue beauty requires a journey of self-realization that she calls the “ascent”: A process of learning to love beautiful things that are more and more good and meaningful.

  • An ascendant’s natural desire for beauty inspires them to create intellectual offspring—in other words, it inspires them to develop their rational abilities and do philosophy.
  • A long-term dedication to reasoning and thinking about beauty eventually allows the ascendant to understand what beauty itself actually is—and since all good things are beautiful, an understanding of beauty itself allows the ascendant to understand what goodness itself is.
  • Diotima describes this understanding in terms of intellectual reproduction—in the presence of absolute beauty, the pupil can birth intellectual offspring that are absolutely and universally true.

Anyone who completes the ascent has a happy life (a meaningful life well-lived). By that point, they’ll have created intellectual offspring that are permanently and absolutely good—because these offspring reveal eternal truths about goodness itself. Creating eternal and good offspring gets a human as close as they can to immortality.

The Steps of the Ascent

Diotima outlines six steps of the ascent:

1) Love of one beautiful body: First, an ascendant is physically attracted to one beautiful body, inspiring them to create intellectual offspring.

2) Love of all beautiful bodies: The ascendant will eventually recognize that there’s no reason to desire one physically beautiful body more than another since they all share beautiful attributes in common. Therefore, the ascendant comes to love all beautiful bodies.

3) Love of all beautiful minds: As the ascendant continues to reason and birth mental offspring, the focus of their desire will shift from physical beauty to mental beauty—they’ll start to love wise and moral individuals regardless of their physical appearance.

4) Love of beautiful activities and institutions: Once the ascendant appreciates the beautiful minds of wise and moral people, they’ll come to appreciate the activities, laws, and systems in their society that create these beautiful minds.

5) Love of beautiful knowledge: The ascendant will realize what creates beautiful minds, activities, and institutions—knowledge. From there, they’ll love the beauty of human knowledge and will seek it out.

6) Love of beauty itself: By pursuing beautiful knowledge and birthing intellectual offspring, the ascendant expands the scope of their knowledge and reason until they can finally understand something of beauty itself. This abstract concept of beauty is perfect, eternal, and unchanging—all beautiful things take part in it, but they’re all flawed in comparison.

Marriage and Love

Cornerstone Collections:

Cornerstone Collections

“The Family: A Proclamation to the World” from The Church of Jesus Christ beautifully teaches about marriage and love. It states that “marriage between man and woman is essential to [God’s] eternal plan.” This teaching about marriage is core to the doctrine of the Church. It even traces back to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, where God commanded them to remain together.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ believe that families can be together forever, not just on earth. Being together forever is possible when a husband and wife are married and sealed together for time and eternity. Sealing happens in sacred temples and puts an end to “till death do us part.” Marriage and love are some of the most significant sources of joy and happiness in this life, and working through trials can significantly help couples grow in charity and love. Church president Russell M. Nelson has said, “There is great power in a strong partnership. True partners can achieve more than the sum of each acting alone” (“Disciples of Jesus Christ—Defenders of Marriage,” August 14, 2014).

When dating, remember that a healthy relationship is an equal partnership between two people willing to sacrifice for each other. Real love is more than mutual attraction; love that forms a lasting relationship needs a well-established foundation. We can build a good foundation through respect, forgiveness, and hard work. Remember President Boyd K. Packer’s advice in your search for marriage and love: avoid temptation and feelings of pride. Instead, “seek the pure, eternal love that God has in store for [us]” (“Eternal Love,” November 3, 1963).

How Can I Love Someone Unconditionally?

A single red rose placed upon scattered book pages.

Sometimes patience with a significant other can run thin. Whether you’ve gotten into an argument or you just don’t see why your partner can’t put their dishes in the sink, you may find yourself asking, “How am I supposed to love this person unconditionally ?” To answer this, we need not look further than the perfect example of unconditional love: Heavenly Father. Despite all our weaknesses and shortcomings, God loves us no matter what. When we love others unconditionally, we do just that—we love them  no matter what .  While this doesn’t mean you should let your partner’s erroneous actions go unchecked, it does mean  that  you should recognize the eternal potential in your partner. Try to see them as God sees them—as a being capable of repentance and growth. In doing so, you will find that your love for them and patience with them will increase.

Deciding to marry is one of the biggest commitments you will ever make, so how can you know if the person you are dating is the “right” one for you?  As  Bruce A. How Do I Love My Spouse When Our Marriage Is on the Rocks?

All couples face challenges in love and marriage. Contention  can spout from innocent differences in opinion or from situations of greater weight, such as financial problems. Whatever the cause, husbands and wives can work together to overcome any challenge when they remember that their marriage is a sacred covenant and responsibility.

Ultimately you have the power to choose how you will react when things aren’t going well in your marriage. Will you respond to your spouse with anger, frustration, and bitterness? Or will you react with patience, love, and humility? As President Boyd   K. Packer said, “An eternal marriage is worth every effort it requires” (“ Eternal Marriage , ”  April  14,  1970  ).  So  don’t give up. As you pray for guidance, the Lord will bless you with an increase of love for your spouse and the strength to overcome your trials.

What Are Some Characteristics of a Healthy Relationship?

Photo of a park and a park bench at night with romantic bistro lights strung up.

While a quick scroll through Instagram might convince you otherwise, there is no such thing as a perfect relationship. There are, however, a few characteristics that are common in healthy relationships. Some of those characteristics are trust, good communication, compromise, and honesty. Above all else, a relationship is healthiest when partners keep their covenants with each other and God. There is no better way for two people to draw closer together in love and unity than for both to keep the commandments, serve others, and strengthen their individual testimonies of the gospel of Jesus Christ. If you find that your relationship is unsteady or failing, remember this quote from Elder Holland: “You want capability, safety, and security in dating and romance, in married life and eternity? Be a true disciple of Jesus” (“ How Do I Love Thee? ” February 15, 2000).

30 Famous and Short Inspirational Speeches (5 minutes or less)

  • December 13, 2023

This post is all about the best short inspirational speeches.

Short Inspirational Speeches.

If you are in need of a quick boost of inspiration and motivation, you will find that in this post. I am one of those people who loves to get motivated. That sounds weird, right?

Well, a lot of people these days tend to give motivation a hard time because they don’t believe that it has lasting effects. In other words, they believe that what’s most important is your own self-discipline, because that’s what you have to rely on when motivation isn’t there.

And while I do agree with that sentiment in general, I will never pass up a great motivational podcast or YouTube video! 😀 There’s just something about them that even if they might not have lasting effects, they do truly help pump me up in the moment to get work done. And that’s usually what matters to me the most when I am looking for them in the first place.

So, here are the very best short motivational speeches so you can get that quick fix of motivation that you’re looking for, and ultimately move closer to your goals and dreams.

Short Inspirational Speeches

Believe in yourself speeches.

If you lack confidence or you are doubting yourself, these short motivational speeches will help you to believe in yourself again.

1. Rocky’s Inspirational Speech to His Son | ROCKY BALBOA

In less than 5 minutes, you’ll watch Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) explain to his son that if he wants to have the life he desires, he needs to believe in himself. He needs to stop listening to the people that tell him who he is, and instead go be his own person, and stop looking for someone to blame when things aren’t working out for him because ultimately it’s on HIM. This is one of the greatest inspirational speeches of all time.

2. Find Your Purpose | David Goggins – Motivational Speech

David Goggins is truly incredible. A former Navy SEAL, he has broken records and ran more races than you’d imagine. But the one thing that really stands out about him is his mindset.

Listen to this video if you want to be great. He tells you exactly what you need to do to get there.

Also, if you’ve never read David Goggins’ book “Can’t Hurt Me” , I highly recommend it. He talks about his rough upbringing, and how he was able to essentially become an entirely new person to become a Navy SEAL.

3. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF – Motivational Video (ft. Jaret Grossman & Eric Thomas)

This video is all about how important it is to have the proper belief system. If you truly believe that you are one of the best, you will start acting that you are one of the best, and eventually you may just be one of the best.

4. DON’T LET YOUR DREAMS DIE – Motivational Speech

This YouTube short by Mel Robbins is so good, I had to share it. A light bulb went on in my head when I first watched this. If there is something that is always on your mind, don’t let it haunt you forever because you never put yourself out there to try it. Go and DO!

13. How to Judge Your Life Using 3 Simple Questions | Brendon Burchard Speech| Goalcast

Have you ever heard of Mortality Motivation? It’s essentially what it sounds like… being motivated by the impending reality of your death. It sounds a little morbid, but it’s actually quite beautiful and it can be really beneficial if you harness it for good.

In this video by motivational speaker Brendon Burchard, he shares how a car accident when he was 19 gave him mortality motivation and changed everything for him.

14. FALL, SUFFER AND LEARN | MOTIVATIONAL SPEECH BY OPRAH WINFREY

This speech by Oprah was given to Harvard graduates, and it’s a unique speech because she talks about failing, even after the major success of her television show for over 20 years.

It’s refreshing to hear that even the most successful people fail. What really matters, though, is what you do with your failure. Do you learn from it and move on? Or do you give up?

15. YOU VS YOU – Best Motivational Video

This is a pretty intense video about competition. If your #1 competition is someone else, you need to change your perspective. Your only competition is YOU. The only thing preventing you from moving forward is you.

16. The Speech That Brought This Entire School To Tears

This is a speech about a man who never really paid much attention to his mother, until she passed away. It’s an emotional reminder to cherish the time you have with your loved ones, because you never know if the next time you see them will be the last time.

In my opinion, this speaker embodies many qualities of the best motivational speakers because he really knows how to capture the audience’s attention and pull on their heart strings.

17. 5 Minutes to Start Your Day Right! – MORNING MOTIVATION

This motivational speech is by a Navy SEAL who will remind you to start each day with a task completed, respect everyone, take risks, step up during tough times, and never give up. If you do these things, the next generation, and the generations that follow, will live better lives than we live today.

18. The Real You – Jim Carrey

This video is one of the best motivational speech examples because it reminds you of something so important: sometimes we can be so focused on earning more money, gaining fame, and becoming admired that we lose ourselves or we lose sight of what’s really important to us in the process.

Jim Carrey talks about how he is a great example of that. He got all of the money, fame, and admiration, and admits that that wasn’t really who he was. Sometimes it’s nice to be reminded that money and fame, or even getting to the top of the corporate ladder, while nice, aren’t going to be the thing that brings you fulfillment when it’s all said and done.

19. Ed Mylett Motivational Speech

I posted another motivational video by Ed Mylett above, but if you don’t know much about him, prepare to have your world rocked. He’s probably my absolute favorite motivational speaker because he is successful and he works hard, but he’s also (seemingly) a kind, family guy who’s been through a few things.

In this video, he talks about being “the one” that changed his family tree. Take a listen because I’m sure it’ll get you thinking on whether or not you can be “the one” in YOUR family.

P.S. If you love personal growth content, you should check out Ed Mylett’s podcast . I listen to it every week and it is one of my favorites.

20. If You Feel LOST, LAZY & UNMOTIVATED In Life, WATCH THIS! | Tony Robbins Motivation

If you are someone who is constantly blaming others or your circumstances for your unhappiness, you need to listen to this video by Tony Robbins . Bad things happen to us all, it’s up to you to focus on what you can control.

Great Inspirational Speeches About Hard Work

How hard do you think you work? Could you be doing more? If there’s a little voice inside of your heart that knows you could be doing more and better, these motivational videos about the value of hard work will help you push yourself.

And a side note: your chances of having good luck increase the harder and longer you work.

21. You’re Not Tired, You’re Just Weak – David Goggins Motivation

If you’re feeling lazy or like you don’t want to do something, watch this video til 2:25 . It will give you the push you need to put your head down and do the work. It’ll remind you to keep pursuing your goals and to keep challenging yourself. Key takeaway: push yourself beyond your perceived limits.

22. Hard Work & Patience – A Gary Vaynerchuk Original Film

If you want to be motivated to work hard, listen to Gary Vaynerchuk. Gary Vaynerchuk is a creative genius known for his marketing tactics. This famous motivational speech is all about playing “the long game”, as in, working for a long time and having patience instead of working hard for a short period of time and expecting to win quickly.

23. OBSESSION – Best Motivational Speech

This is one of my favorite short motivational speeches because it makes me feel a little more normal for being “weird”. I’m the kind of person who chooses to work on the weekends instead of hanging out with people. Crazy, right? But it’s because I’m working toward a dream of mine and it’s something that’s really important to me. The most important thing to remember: it’s okay to devote yourself to something. It’s the only way to get what you want in life.

24. WORK LIKE HELL – Best Motivational Video

This is a series of motivational speeches about doing a little bit more and outworking your competition. I’m not going to lie – I’m up late writing this post and listening to this very video is what’s motivating me to keep going.

25. The video EVERY woman should watch!

Whether or not you’re a Rachel Hollis fan may be up for debate (and that’s okay!) but I happen to think she’s a great motivational speaker. This entire speech will inspire you to work hard and take massive action – today.

26. NEVER SURRENDER – Powerful Motivational Speech (by Kobe Bryant)

This one minute video by the late Kobe Bryant is one of the most famous short speeches. I read a book recently by his former personal trainer and I learned that Kobe really outworked everyone. He talks about a quote in this video that really stuck with him, and I think it’s great advice if you’re the kind of person who needs motivation to keep working hard.

Motivational Speeches About Working Smart

Have you ever heard the saying “work smarter, not harder”? That saying is all about ensuring that the work you are doing is actually efficient. Are you getting to where you want to go with all of the work that you are putting in? Are you getting closer to your goals and your dreams? Or are you sprinting like a hamster on a wheel and just running in circles?

Here are great videos on the importance of working hard but also working intentionally.

27. SET SYSTEMS RATHER THAN GOALS – Motivational Speech – James Clear

A goal gives you a sense of direction, but if you don’t spell out precisely how you are going to get to a goal, it is useless. You must develop systems. Listen to this James Clear video to gain valuable life lessons.

By the way, James Clear is an author who wrote perhaps my favorite book of all time: “Atomic Habits” . It’s life-changing if you haven’t read it yet.

28. Matthew McConaughey | 5 Minutes for the NEXT 50 Years of Your LIFE

This is one of the best motivational speeches of all time about how to live a great life for YOU. It’s filled with little pieces of wisdom that’ll really get you thinking about how you live your life and in what direction you want to go.

29. Visualization is the key – Bob Proctor

Do you believe in the Law of Attraction? If not, I have to say I’m surprised! I’ve experienced it in my own life more than once, and it is incredibly powerful. Here’s a great video that sums up the power of visualization, and if you want to learn more about the Law of Attraction or manifestation in general, read this post .

This video shows the true power of words, thoughts, and feelings that you have.

notting hill love scene

Watch the scene here .

In this classic romance, the perfectly average Will Thacker falls in love with American movie star Anna Scott. Despite radically (extremely) different lives and experiences, the two must decide if their love is worth pursuing.

Will: I live in Notting Hill; you live in Beverly Hills. Everyone in the world knows who you are; my mother has trouble remembering my name.

Anna: Right. Fine. Good decision. The fame thing isn’t really real, you know, and don’t forget, I’m also just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.

the proposal love scene

In this comedy, Margaret Tate convinces her assistant, Andrew Paxton, to fake an engagement in order to avoid deportation. However, after a trip to Alaska and weeks of pretending to be in love, their relationship blossoms into something real.

Andrew: Three days ago, I loathed you. I used to dream about you getting hit by a cab or poisoned.

Margaret: Oh, that’s nice.

Andrew: Yeah, I told you to stop talking. Then we had our little adventure up in Alaska and things started to change. Things changed when we kissed. And when you told me about your tattoo. Even when you checked me out when we were naked.

Margaret: Well, I didn’t see anything.

Andrew: Yeah, you did. But I didn’t realize any of this until I was standing alone in a barn, wifeless. Now, you can imagine my disappointment when it suddenly dawned on me that the woman I love is about to be kicked out of the country. So Margaret, marry me. Because I’d like to date you.

parks and recreation love scene

Watch the scene here.

Andy Dwyer and April Ludgate are a favorite TV couple for many. Andrew’s childish enthusiasm balances April’s dark sense of humor. Together, they prove that love doesn’t need to be complicated.

April: I guess I kind of hate most things, but I never really seem to hate you. So, I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Is that cool?

Andy: Yes. Is it my turn? April, you’re the most awesome person I have ever known in my entire life. I vow to protect you from danger. I don’t care if I have to fight an ultimate fighter, or a bear, or him, your mom, I would take them down. I’m getting mad right now even thinking about it. I’m telling you.

the lord of the rings love scene

Maybe you don’t think of “The Lord of the Rings” as a romantic movie! But this trilogy has it all: action, suspense and of course romance. Though there are plenty of romantic moments throughout all three movies, there’s something especially beautiful about Eowyn and Faramir. Their love truly grows as they recover from a difficult battle.

Eowyn: The city has fallen silent. There is no warmth left in the sun. It grows so cold.

Faramir: It’s just the damp of the first spring rain. I do not believe this darkness will endure .

the princess bride love scene

In “The Princess Bride,” Buttercup believes her true love, Wesley, has been killed by pirates. However, he survives the pirate attack and comes to her rescue when she’s kidnapped. Together they must survive the many obstacles that stand in the way of their love.

Wesley: Can you move at all?

Buttercup: Move? You’re alive! If you want, I can fly.

Wesley: I told you I would always come for you. Why didn’t you wait for me?

Buttercup: Well, you were dead.

Wesley: Death cannot stop true love. What it can do is delay it for a while.

Buttercup: I will never doubt again.

Wesley: There will never be a need.

pride and prejudice love scene

The charming Mr. Darcy must fight for Elizabeth Bennet’s affections in this classic novel-turned-movie. Despite family pressure, rumors and miscommunications, the two can’t ignore their feelings and their desire to be together.

Darcy: How can I ever make amends for such behavior?

Elizabeth: After what you have done, it is I who should be making amends.

Darcy: You must know. Surely, you must know it was all for you. You are too generous to trifle with me. If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes have not changed, but one word from you will silence me forever. If, however, your feelings have changed, I will have to tell you: you have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love, I love, I love you. I never wish to be parted from you from this day on.

when harry met sally love scene

Harry and Sally are two very different people who make an unlikely couple. An argument over whether or not a man and a woman can be friends turns into feelings they never expected.

Sally: I’m sorry, Harry, I know it’s New Years Eve, I know you’re feeling lonely, but you just can’t show up here, tell me you love me and expect that to make everything alright. It doesn’t work this way.

Harry: Well, how does it work?

Sally: I don’t know, but not this way.

Harry: How about this way? I love that you get cold when it’s 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you’re looking at me like I’m nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it’s not because I’m lonely, and it’s not because it’s New Year’s Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.

when in rome love scene

Beth: I’m constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop .

Nick: You know, lightning does strike once in a while, Beth. Trust me, I know.

Beth: I wish I could believe that.

Nick: You can. No shoe’s going to drop, Beth. This is real. I’m real.

a cinderella story love scene

  • First, find someone to practice with. This can be a romantic partner, a friend or a classmate.
  • Pick one of the love dialogues on our list. Each one comes with a YouTube video, so you can hear how the actors pronounce each word. If you’re a beginner, choose a short video. If you’re more advanced, choose one of the longer dialogues.

Bible Verses About God's Love

bible verses about love, scriptures on love

If we want the perfect example of love, it is in our creator God. Often, God's love is referred to as agape love which is the highest form of love that is selfless and sacrificial. It is steadfast, unchanging, and unconditional. Below are a few Scripture examples of God's great love for you! May these Bible verses about the love of God inspire courage and compassion.

Dear friends, let us love one another , for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. - 1 John 4:7-8

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. - John 4:9-12

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. - 1 John 4:16-18

As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. - John 15:9-10

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.  - John 15:12-13

Now therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations. - Deuteronomy 7:9

But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. - Psalms 86:15

God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. - Romans 5:8

God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ - by grace you have been saved. - Ephesians 2:4-5

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. - 1 John 3:1

God created and instituted marriage . Bible verses about love show us the importance of marriage and how to be a loving spouse through commitment and appreciation. The Bible is the true source for the definition of marriage and the roles of husband and wife. Whether you are looking for Scripture to include in your wedding vows during the ceremony or looking to renew the love in your marriage, this collection of Bible verses about love will provide excellent encouragement and inspiration.

Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church - for we are members of his body. “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. - Ephesians 5:22-33

husband love your wives verse ephesians 5:24

Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. - Colossians 3:18-19

He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD. - Proverbs 18:22

I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine. - Song of Solomon 8:3

I found the one my heart loves. - Song of Solomon 3:4

Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. - Genesis 2:22-24

May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth. A loving doe, a graceful deer— may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be intoxicated with her love. - Proverbs 5:18-19

A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. - Proverbs 31:10-12

Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away. If one were to give all the wealth of one’s house for love, it would be utterly scorned. - Song of Solomon 8:6

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. - Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one s-eparate.   Mark 10:9-6

As Christians and followers of Jesus Christ, the Bible tells us that the world will know us by our love. The greatest testimony that we can be is to love those around us - whether family, friends, or strangers. The below Scriptures about love will guide you in choosing to "put on love"! May we know the love of God and share that love with others throughout our life.

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. -  1 Corinthians 13:1-3

Love is patient , love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. - 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. -   Romans 12:9-10

"The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’There is no commandment greater than these." - Mark 12:29-31

Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. -   Romans 13:8

A friend loves at all times. -   Proverbs 17:17

Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. -   Romans 13:10

Many claim to have unfailing love, but a faithful person who can find? The righteous lead blameless lives; blessed are their children after them. - Proverbs 20:6-7

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. - 1 Corinthians 13:13

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. -   Ephesians 4:2-3

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. - 1 Peter 4:8

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. - 1 John 4:7

Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. - 1 John 4:11

And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister. - 1 John 4:21

And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. - Colossians 3:14

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. - 1 John 3:16-18

Do everything in love. - 1 Corinthians 16:14

love your enemies scriptures

The idea of loving and forgiving our enemies sounds completely ridiculous at times. It is our human nature to want to defend ourselves and fight back. However, if we are called to be like Jesus, we are called to forgive those who hurt us. Loving your enemy is less about reconciling a relationship and more about the condition of your heart! Here is a collection of Scriptures about love that will bring you peace and encourage forgiveness for those who trespass against us.

But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you." - Luke 6:27-31

But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. - Luke 6:35

You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect". - Matthew 5:43-48

On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." - Romans 12:20-21

Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs. - Proverbs 10:12

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. - Proverbs 3:3-4

Dear God, Thank you that you are a loving, gracious God. Thank you that you’ve offered us forgiveness and the gift of new life in you. Thank you that your love is perfect, it never fails, and that nothing can separate us from your love.

We pray that our lives would be filled and overflowing with the power of your love so we can make a difference in this world and bring honor to you. We ask for your help in reminding us that the most important things are not what we do outwardly, it’s not based on any talent or gift, but the most significant thing we can do in this life is simply to love you and to choose to love others.

Lord thank you that your love is patient . Help us show patience with those around us. Lord thank you that your love is kind. Help us to extend kindness to others. Lord thank you that your love does not take into account a wrong suffered. Lord help us not to hold grudges, but to choose to forgive, even when it’s difficult.

Help us to love as you love. Fill us with your Spirit so that we can choose what is best. We are weak Lord, but we know also, that even when we are weak, you are strong within us. Thank you that it’s not all up to us. Thank you that you equip us to face each day with the power of your love, your forgiveness, and your grace. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Harrison Butker Said His Benedictine College Commencement Speech Taken 'Out of Context'?

According to online posts, butker supposedly clarified in a statement, "all i said is that we should go back to a better time, like the 50s and 60s.", jordan liles, published may 16, 2024.

About this rating

On May 16, 2024, numerous users on Facebook , TikTok and X reposted a quote meme featuring a purported statement from Kansas City Chiefs kicker and 3-time Super Bowl champion Harrison Butker. The statement supposedly constituted Butker's response to some backlash following his May 11 commencement speech at Kansas' Benedictine College, a private Catholic liberal arts school.

In one post  on X displayed to over 1 million users, the viral quote meme showing a photo of Butker read, "Everyone is taking what I said out of context. All I said is that we should go back to a better time, like the 50s and 60s. When men were men, and women had more babies than thoughts. When the only 'Me too' movement was one woman saying she was ready for her 4th child, and another woman agreeing." The end of the meme added Butker's name with the words "on setting the record straight."

A fake quote meme claimed Harrison Butker said the words everyone is taking what I said out of context and added all I said is that we should go back to a better time like the 50s and 60s.

A TikTok video promoting the quote meme as genuine also received more than 800,000 views within five hours of being uploaded, making it another one of the more prominent reposts.

However, Butker did not release a statement with these words, nor did he appear to publicly release any statements following his speech. A closer look at the quote meme reveals a watermark for "@TheSportsMemery" — a reference to the Facebook page named The Sports Memery. The Facebook page's description describes its output as containing satire and parody.

The Associated Press reported Butker's speech featured some remarks on the subjects of women and motherhood, Pride month, in vitro fertilization (IVF) and President Joe Biden's policies regarding abortion and the COVID-19 pandemic, among others.

Readers looking to watch Butker's address in its original form can find the full, unedited speech in a  video  posted on the Benedictine College YouTube channel. The video ends with many of the people in attendance giving Butker a standing ovation.

The National Catholic Register also published a complete transcript of the address.

give a short speech about love

Communism is a political ideology in which all the property and resources are owned by the community members, irrespective of gender. Gender Equality, on the other hand, promotes equal access to resources and opportunities for all genders. On this page, we will discuss samples of speech on Communism and Gender Equality to highlight the interconnection between these.

How to Give a Speech in 5 Easy Steps?

  • Choose your topic- Finalise the topic on which you wish to give a speech. The topic should be of interest to you, and you should be knowledgeable about it. If you have a thorough understanding of a topic, it will be easier to engage the audience.
  • Do your research on the topic – Gather as much information as you can about that topic. However, ensure that your information is accurate and valid and that it is supported by relevant facts and sources.
  • Give an outline to your thoughts- To help organise your thoughts, create a structure for the speech outline beforehand. Otherwise, it would be difficult to deliver the right message at the right time with the right words.
  • Write your speech draft- Create a draft speech and finish it with the necessary changes.
  • Practice and Revise- Rehearse your speech until you feel fluent and comfortable. Pay attention to your tone and body language. Improve where you notice flaws.

A.1 Communism and gender equality are interconnected because the equitable distribution of property among all members means equal ownership rights for all genders. Gender discrimination creates inequality in society, which is in opposition to a society that values collective resource ownership.

A.2 Gender inequality in society shows that it follows the patriarchal system. A patriarchal society, often known as a male-dominated society, is one in which men have more power and authority while women and other minority groups are marginalised.

A.3 To build an inclusive communist society that promotes gender equality, we must first educate ourselves about it and follow its principles daily. All of this is necessary to create a future society in which there is no gender discrimination and everyone lives with dignity and freedom.

Invoking Struggle and Faith, Biden Reaches Out at Morehouse

Addressing graduates of the historically Black college in Georgia, Mr. Biden spoke to a crucial segment of the electorate and sought to distinguish himself from Donald J. Trump.

Here’s what to know about Biden’s remarks.

Biden calls on morehouse college graduates to defend democracy, in a commencement speech at morehouse, the historically black men’s college in atlanta, president biden condemned white supremacy and “extremist forces aligned against the meaning and message of morehouse.”.

You started college just as George Floyd was murdered and there was a reckoning on race. It’s natural to wonder if democracy you hear about actually works for you. What is democracy if Black men are being killed in the street? What is democracy if the trail of broken promises still leave Black communities behind? What is democracy if you have to be 10 times better than anyone else to get a fair shot? Well that’s my commitment to you. To show you democracy, democracy, democracy, is still the way. That Black men are being killed in the streets, we bear witness. For me, that means to call out the poison of white supremacy. Graduates, this is what we’re up against: extremist forces aligned against the meaning and message of Morehouse. And they peddle a fiction, a caricature, of what being a man is about — tough talk, abusing power, bigotry. But that’s not you. It’s not us. You all know and demonstrate what it really means to be a man. Being a man is about strength of respect and dignity. It’s about showing up because it’s too late, if you have to ask. It’s about giving hate no safe harbor.

President Biden invoked scripture and lessons from his own tragic past on Sunday in a commencement address to hundreds of young Black men at Morehouse College, saying he believes there are “extremist forces aligned against the meaning and message” of the prestigious institution.

Mr. Biden’s speech, delivered at the historically Black men’s college in Atlanta, put him directly in front of hundreds who represent a slice of the electorate that is drifting away from him over the war in Gaza and growing apathy about their choices ahead of the election. Mr. Biden used the moment to say that manhood was not about “tough talk” and “bigotry” but about calling out hate.

“Their idea of being a man is toxic,” Mr. Biden told the graduates, a reference to adversaries he did not name — but, given that his other events this weekend were focused on attacking his Republican competitor, Donald J. Trump, it was little mystery who he was talking about. “That is not you. That is not us. Being a man is about strength and respect and dignity.”

Those who stormed the Capitol with Confederate flags “are called patriots by some,” he said — a clear reference to Mr. Trump. “Not in my house.”

Mr. Biden’s speech was his first significant appearance before college students since protests over the war in Gaza began roiling campuses. For a ceremony in which students are discouraged even from decorating their caps, the signs of protest were respectful but noticeable: A small group of graduates turned to sit with their backs to Mr. Biden as he spoke, and several graduates wore the kaffiyeh, a traditional scarf associated with the Palestinians, draped over their shoulders. Some parents urged their graduating sons not to protest.

Mr. Biden also called for an immediate cease-fire and said that his administration was working to secure one. He said that members of his family had been upset by the war, a group that includes Jill Biden, the first lady, who has urged her husband in private to bring a stop to it.

“What’s happening in Gaza, in Israel, is heartbreaking,” Mr. Biden said. “It’s a humanitarian crisis in Gaza.”

In a statement, Morehouse said that discussions between White House officials and students, faculty and alumni had helped shape Mr. Biden’s speech and his calls for a cease-fire in Gaza. The school also praised its graduates. “It is fitting that a moment of organized, peaceful activism would occur on our campus while the world is watching to continue a critical conversation,” the statement read.

During his 27-minute speech, Mr. Biden tried to stress to the graduates — none of whom stood for him as he took the lectern — that throughout his life he had respected and espoused the same ideas they care about.

He said he had worked throughout his life, as a public defender, senator and president, to correct inequalities. He outlined the work his administration has done that he and his advisers believe deserves more credit than it receives, including the forgiveness of large amounts of student loan debt and reducing the poverty rate for Black children.

“We know Black history is American history,” Mr. Biden said at one point, urging the crowd to “check my record,” which includes choosing the first Black female Supreme Court justice, Ketanji Brown Jackson, and the first Black woman to hold the vice presidency, Kamala Harris.

By focusing on matters of adversity and strength, Mr. Biden also sought to strike a contrast with Mr. Trump not on the grounds of politics or policy but through the lessons of keeping faith in moments of hopelessness. He spoke of the death of his first wife and daughter as well as his eldest son, Beau, from brain cancer.

He told the Morehouse graduates, a class that weathered the chaos of the pandemic and the tumult of widespread protests over the police killings of Black men, that it was natural for them to question whether there was a place for them in democracy at all.

“What is democracy when Black men are being killed in the streets?” he said. “What is democracy when a trail of broken promises still leave Black communities behind? What is democracy when you have to be 10 times better than anyone else to get a fair shot?”

Repeatedly, Mr. Biden reached for religious inspiration, recalling that Jesus was buried on Friday and resurrected on Sunday, leaving Saturday as a day of hopelessness. He suggested that 2020 — the year he was elected, with its twin traumas of the Covid-19 pandemic and the police killing of George Floyd — had been one such Saturday.

At one point, Mr. Biden said, “I’ve learned there was no easy optimism but by faith, by faith you can find redemption.”

Mr. Biden, who has a bust of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the Oval Office — and who is old enough to have shared his memories of Dr. King’s assassination in his speech — walked into commencement on Sunday unsure of how the crowd would receive him.

Morehouse, which was established in Atlanta in 1867, is a school whose culture is steeped in tradition. Students spend their years working toward becoming the embodiment of the Morehouse man: well traveled, well read and civically engaged. As the alma mater of Dr. King, there is also a proud history of protesting for social justice.

Mr. Biden’s visit to Morehouse drew the objections of some faculty members, alumni and students, who have voiced anger over the war in Gaza and the American government’s support for Israel. The tension drew so much attention that the school’s president, David A. Thomas, publicly warned that he would stop the commencement if graduates shouted at the president or disrupted the event.

The men of Morehouse found ways to work their opposition to the war into the ceremony. DeAngelo Jeremiah Fletcher, the class valedictorian, took the stage with the Palestinian flag pinned on his stole and on his cap.

“It is my stance as a Morehouse man, nay, as a human being, to call for an immediate and permanent cease-fire, in the Gaza Strip,” Mr. Fletcher said. Mr. Biden joined the crowd in standing up and clapping when Mr. Fletcher finished, and he shook the graduate’s hand.

But by the end of Mr. Biden’s speech, signs of support were visible, too. As Mr. Biden received an honorary doctorate of law, Mr. Thomas praised the president for listening to the concerns of the graduating class. And some people chanted “four more years” as Mr. Biden left the stage.

After addressing Morehouse, Mr. Biden was set to travel to Detroit to speak at a dinner hosted by the N.A.A.C.P.

Hitting two battleground states in eight hours was the clearest sign yet that Mr. Biden is serious about reintroducing himself to voters who carried him to the White House in 2020 and whose support he will need to win to stay in office for a second term.

In 2020 , 95 percent of Black women and 87 percent of Black men voted for Mr. Biden, according to the Pew Research Center. But in April, only 55 percent of Black voters told Pew that they approved of his job performance. A recent poll by Ipsos and The Washington Post showed that 62 percent of Black Americans planned to vote in 2024, down from 74 percent in 2020.

In recent days, both Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris have traveled outside of Washington to host events geared toward bringing those voters back into the fold.

Mr. Biden’s trip to Detroit comes as the latest New York Times/Siena College poll shows him winning support from less than half of Black voters in Michigan in a five-way race. In 2020, he won more than 90 percent of Black voters in the state, exit polls show.

The war in Gaza and concerns about the economy are driving factors behind what analysts say is an increase in apathy. In Michigan, nearly nine in 10 Black voters rated the economy as being in “fair” or “poor” condition, a higher rate than white voters, the Times/Siena poll found.

Alexis Wiley, the founder of a strategic communications firm in Detroit and a former member of the Democratic National Committee, said the Biden administration had to do more to communicate its victories.

“I think that they’re finally catching up to the fact that people aren’t feeling great,” Ms. Wiley said, “and now there’s this mad dash to try to correct it.”

Reporting was contributed by Nicholas Nehamas in Washington and Chevaz Clarke-Williams , Alan Blinder and Sean Keenan in Atlanta.

Biden asks Black voters to align with him in defending democracy.

President Biden on Sunday appealed to the graduating men of Morehouse College, and Black voters by extension, to align themselves with him on the side of democracy and against the forces of white supremacy that have coursed through American politics.

“It’s natural to wonder if the democracy you hear about actually works for you,” he said in a half-hour commencement speech. “What is democracy when Black men are being killed in the streets? What is democracy when a trail of broken promises still leave Black communities behind? What is democracy when you have to be 10 times better than anyone else to get a fair shot?”

He condemned both the “extremist forces aligned against the meaning and message of Morehouse” and what he called false notions of what “manhood” really is.

Repeatedly, Mr. Biden reached for religious inspiration, recalling that Jesus was buried on Friday and resurrected on Sunday, leaving Saturday as a day of hopelessness. He suggested that 2020 — the year he was elected, with its twin traumas of the Covid-19 pandemic and the police killing of George Floyd and the protests that it ignited — had been one such Saturday.

“In our lives, in our nation, we have those Saturdays to bear witness to the day before glory,” he said to the graduating class, largely made up of students who were barred from in-person high school graduations because of the pandemic. “What work is done on Saturday can move pain to purpose.”

Left unsaid was how Mr. Biden’s administration and the current political moment fit into that metaphor.

Mr. Biden highlighted policies that he said had disproportionately harmed Black voters, like a law enacted in Georgia in 2021 that placed more restrictions on ballot access. One provision outlawed giving voters water or snacks while they wait in line and has drawn the ire of Democrats nationwide.

“What the hell is that all about?” Mr. Biden asked.

He also underlined the policies his administration has championed that he said were meant to improve Black communities, like increased funding to historically Black colleges and reconnecting Black neighborhoods decimated by highway construction. “Instead of forcing you to be 10 times better,” he said, “we’re breaking down doors to save 100 more opportunities.”

After spending most of the morning marching on sidewalks outside campus, as police requested, a group of about 100 pro-Palestinian demonstrators has taken to the street. The march, which includes some Morehouse students and faculty members, is now blocking southbound traffic on Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard, a road named for the late minister and civil rights leader.

As Biden concluded his speech, guests seated in the V.I.P. section chanted “four more years.”

As Biden was being presented with his honorary degree, several students walked out .

This moment, where Biden is receiving an honorary degree, was more protested than his speech itself in some circles. Now that he’s received the recognition, Biden could technically be considered a “Morehouse man” — something many students and alumni disagreed with.

Biden makes a bit of a show for the cameras, smiling and pointing to his stole, after receiving his honorary degree.

That was a difficult needle to thread for the president, who went into this speech aware that there was a protest movement against his appearance here. But the president of Morehouse just praised him for “listening” to the concerns of the graduating class.

Alan Blinder

Alan Blinder

The president is finished. I clocked Biden’s speech at roughly 27 minutes, a bit shorter than Barack Obama’s 33-minute commencement address at Morehouse in 2013.

Black leaders and Democratic strategists have long warned that the biggest challenge this November will not be Black voters’ drift to voting for Trump or other Republican candidates but that they may stay home altogether. This speech — with its heavy allusions to democracy, manhood and the rich history of Black institutions like Morehouse — is meant to inspire groups like this to vote. And, even more, to get others in their communities to do the same.

Shane Goldmacher

Shane Goldmacher

When Biden puts it in such quick succession, his links to the Black community’s top political leaders are fairly remarkable. He was vice president to the first Black president; he named the first Black woman to serve as vice president; he appointed the first Black woman to the Supreme Court. Yet early polls show him winning a smaller share of Black voters that most Democrats.

It was not a foregone conclusion that Biden’s address would continue without protests. But he spoke largely uninterrupted.

“Whether you’re young or old, I know what endures. The strength and wisdom of faith endures,” Biden says, acknowledging a concern among many young voters who I have talked to: the president’s age.

“I know I don’t look like I’ve been around very long,” Biden jokes, crossing himself.

Lisa Lerer

“She’s tough, guys,” he adds.

Biden said that a Morehouse Man would become president one day, right after an “A.K.A. from Howard,” all but name-checking the vice president, Kamala Harris.

Biden lays out the stakes of 2024 for this crowd, saying there are “extremist forces aligned against the meaning and message of Morehouse.”

Biden says those who stormed the Capitol with Confederate flags “are called patriots by some” — a clear reference to Donald Trump. “Not in my house,” he says.

President Biden also makes mention of Georgia’s stringent election laws. One provision that outlaws giving water or snacks to those waiting in line at the polls drew outrage nationwide.

The invoking of his own family’s frustration was very revealing.

Biden said that his family was angry and affected by what is happening in Gaza. We reported recently that Jill Biden, the first lady, has urged him to find a way to stop it .

Biden seems to be spending more time talking about Israel and Gaza than he spent discussing, say, student loan debt or education policy.

“What’s happening in Gaza in Israel is heartbreaking,” Biden says. “It’s a humanitarian crisis in Gaza.” Biden says he’s been “working around the clock” for an immediate ceasefire. Jake Sullivan, his national security adviser, is Saudi Arabia and Israel this weekend for talks with top leaders.

This Biden speech shows a president torn between the frustrated feelings of many voters of his and the nation’s shortcomings, and the economic statistics that he hopes take hold in their view of his presidency this fall. “Record numbers of Black Americans have jobs,” he says, while acknowledging that is not enough.

As much as Biden is talking to this class of mostly 20-something men, he’s also talking to the hundreds of family members in the crowd. There are scores of Black voters here who eagerly wanted to hear from the president.

Biden makes specific his efforts to nix student loan debt to this crowd. “I’m relieving the burden of student debt — many of you have already had the benefit of it,” he said.

At first, Biden was not really using politics or policy to draw a comparison with his challenger, Donald J. Trump. He did it instead by focusing on scripture and talking at length about what faith had taught him. I’ve covered dozens of Trump rallies and can’t say that was ever much of a theme. Now Biden is transitioning to his agenda.

About 15 minutes into the speech, we hear Biden starting to trumpet his policy agenda, including on student debt.

“Instead of forcing you to prove you’re 10 times better, we’re breaking down doors so you can have 100 times more opportunities,” Biden says.

President Biden is framing an understanding of democratic norms around how this class of young, Black men might view it: through racial prejudice and inequality. Many students I spoke to this week echoed this theme and said they felt that in light of the crises they face, political leaders don’t listen to them.

Yes, it’s notable to me too, Zolan, that he is going with such a personal approach, trying to show his character and empathy. “Faith asked me to hold on to hope,” he says. “That’s my commitment to you to show you democracy, democracy, democracy is still the way.”

This speech so far has been mostly about Biden’s upbringing — one of a law student, public defender and single father — rather than promoting the economic achievements of the Biden administration. The White House has been focused on promoting such policy achievements to galvanize a crucial constituency of Black voters frustrated with the Biden White House.

Biden is trying to turn his broad pitch about the centrality of democracy to the 2024 campaign to the realities of being Black in America in 2024. After invoking the death of George Floyd, he says, “What is democracy, if Black men are being killed in the street?”

And he’s trying to express that he understands why these graduates might question the promise of democracy.

Biden is essentially retelling the story of his personal life and how he learned the lessons of optimism and compassion. The importance of family and keeping the faith. It’s a way of acknowledging the difficulties this Covid class has faced in reaching this moment, their education upended by the pandemic and killing of George Floyd.

Indeed, one of Biden’s touchstones was a memory of Martin Luther King Jr. still alive.

Biden is recounting his college years, early career and the death of his first wife and daughter after being elected to the Senate. These are events that occurred more than a half-century before this graduation.

When describing his upbringing, Biden has increasingly mentioned his time as a public defender in Delaware. After the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Biden left a private firm that specialized in representing big companies to work as a public defender.

A march of more than 100 pro-Palestinian demonstrators has stopped in front of a police blockade outside the school’s entrance on Atlanta Student Movement Boulevard. Multiple Atlanta Police prisoner transport vans just pulled up. Activists are continuing speeches and chants decrying Biden, Israel and law enforcement.

Biden pokes fun at Morehouse, calling Delaware State, a historically Black college in his home state, the nation’s “best.” This Howard alumna would beg to differ.

Morehouse parents to their graduating seniors considering protests: Don’t.

After it became clear that some students at Morehouse, the all-male historically Black institution in Atlanta, would protest President Biden’s commencement address on Sunday, Davida Morgan Washington and her husband offered some gentle-but-firm advice to the graduate in their family: Don’t engage.

“I do not expect you to participate” in the protests, she said she told her son, Kollin Washington, who is receiving his bachelor’s degree in cinematography on Sunday. He, in turn, guaranteed her that he would steer clear of the fray.

Another parent, Chiara King, warned her son against demonstrating. Though she was upset by the images of destruction in the Gaza Strip and saw valid reasons for students’ demonstrations against the war, she said she felt Mr. Biden’s visit to the storied campus was a huge honor and wanted to hear what a sitting president would say to the Class of 2024.

“He does have compassion for the children that have been lost in this,” she said of her son. “But this day is truly about him enjoying the moments that he has studied so hard for.”

Her son, Christian Shields, agreed. In an interview Friday, he said his reasons for avoiding protests were largely familial — he wanted his loved ones to enjoy the ceremony.

“The commencement, it isn’t for us, it’s for them,” said Mr. Shields, who earned a bachelor’s degree in physics. He added a practical caveat: “We want to keep the commencement to a nice, short and sweet hour and a half, two hours. We don’t want anything to happen.”

In the days and hours before Mr. Biden’s address, the style and scale of protests against his visit were both an open question and widely-discussed topic in parent group forums. Across the country, colleges and universities have been roiled by protests against the war between Israel and Hamas. Multiple — including Emory University, another Atlanta-area institution — moved their graduation ceremonies to off-campus locations to avoid major demonstrations.

But Morehouse has seen few signs of sustained protest — students did not establish encampments on campus or hold long-term demonstrations. Tensions around the president’s visit have largely played out in classrooms and auditoriums. Students and a group of alumni expressed their disdain in a handful of letters to Morehouse’s president, David Thomas, asking him to rescind the invitation to Mr. Biden. Some faculty members threatened to boycott the ceremony altogether.

In response, campus leaders and a handful of White House officials held meetings with students to ease tensions and encourage peaceful protest. Mr. Thomas said that he would stop the ceremony if demonstrations became too disruptive.

And parents have taken their own precautions, too. Ms. King said that she had a safety plan in place for her family members attending commencement, including both of her octogenarian parents. They aimed to arrive at the university’s campus near downtown Atlanta around 4 a.m. on Sunday, five hours before the ceremony. On Thursday, they shot graduation pictures on campus to avoid doing so in crowds when the ceremony ended.

The thoughts of many Black parents were even captured in popular culture. In a Saturday Night Live episode that aired in early May, cast member Kenan Thompson, who played a parent of a Columbia University student, said he supported student protesters — as long as those students were not his children. His daughter, he added, “better have her butt in class.”

“I’m in support of y’all’s kids protesting. Not mine,” his character said in the cold open skit. “My kids know better.”

Kaelyn Jones, council leader of the Morehouse Parents’ Council’s Georgia and Alabama region, said she has spent the better part of the last few weeks fielding concerns from parents across the country who were concerned about protests that could disrupt their day. Though her son is a junior at Morehouse, she said she is concerned for all of the students who are graduating — and their parents.

“These are my sons,” Ms. Jones said. “Regardless of how many kids you have there.”

An earlier version of this article misstated on second reference the last name of a member of the Morehouse Parents’ Council leadership, as well as her title. She is Kaelyn Jones, not Johnson, and she is council leader of the Morehouse Parents’ Council’s Georgia and Alabama region, not president.

Reporting from Washington

Biden has been working to shore up support among Black voters.

President Biden has been trying to shore up support among Black Americans, who helped deliver him the White House in 2020.

His outreach culminates on Sunday with a highly anticipated commencement address at prestigious Morehouse College, one of the nation’s oldest historically Black colleges.

Mr. Biden plans to underscore past victories for Black Americans while also heralding the achievements he has delivered, White House officials said, citing a 60 percent increase in Black household wealth and the lowest Black unemployment rate ever last year.

“We’re not just talking about history, like we are doing today with the Brown and related cases, but how indeed the president’s making history every single day,” said Stephen K. Benjamin, a senior adviser to Mr. Biden and the director of public engagement, referring to Brown v. Board of Education, which the president commemorated last week .

But it is not clear that Mr. Biden’s efforts are resonating. A new set of polls in five crucial battleground states found deep frustration among young, Black and Hispanic voters that threatens to unravel the president’s Democratic coalition.

His speech at Morehouse comes as discontent over the war in Gaza has broken out on campuses nationwide. But at Morehouse, which has a legacy of civil rights protests and is the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s alma mater, such debates have not played out quite so publicly .

Representative James E. Clyburn, the South Carolina Democrat whose 2020 endorsement helped resurrect Mr. Biden’s campaign, said he believed the erosion of Black support for Mr. Biden had been overblown.

Mr. Biden’s policies, Mr. Clyburn said, are meaningful — particularly his efforts to eliminate lead pipes that have poisoned Black children for decades and lowering insulin costs for a population that has a higher rate of death from diabetes. And he said measures like wiping out billions in student loan debt would resonate at a school like Morehouse.

“Joe Biden’s relationship with Black people is really solid,” Mr. Clyburn said. “Black people see in Joe Biden the kind of presidency that they would like to have.”

Last week, Mr. Biden’s efforts to connect with Black voters included meeting on Thursday with plaintiffs and their families to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Brown case, a landmark decision that ruled that racial segregation in schools was unconstitutional. On Friday, he spoke at the National Museum of African American History and Culture and met with the leaders of the Divine Nine, a group of historically Black sororities and fraternities.

Other graduation ceremonies where protests occurred are happening today.

Aside from Morehouse College, several other universities are holding commencement ceremonies on Sunday, some with increased safety and security measures in case of protests or disruptions.

Over the past several weeks, some ceremonies have been disrupted by protests over the war in Gaza. Since mid-April, protesters have filled campuses across the country and formed encampments, demanding that their universities divest from Israel. More than 2,900 protesters have been arrested .

Many encampments have since been cleared out, as several schools reached agreements with protesters to remove them, including Harvard; Rutgers; the University of California, Berkeley; and Wesleyan University.

Among the schools honoring their graduates today are George Washington University in Washington, D.C.; Tufts University in Massachusetts; and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee — all universities that have dealt with protesters on campus in recent weeks.

Here’s what has happened at those schools.

George Washington University

This month, the police broke up an encampment and arrested more than 30 protesters. Days later, protesters briefly occupied a street in front of the university president’s residence .

The main graduation ceremony is at 10:30 a.m. at the National Mall. The school said that it has taken additional safety and security measures. Jen Psaki, former press secretary to President Biden, will give the commencement address .

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

Unlike many other universities, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee allowed an encampment on its campus to stand, though officials had signaled that their patience was running out. Two weeks after the encampment was set up, the university announced that protesters had agreed to remove it. In return, the university pledged to join calls for a cease-fire and hear protesters’ concerns regarding university investments, among other things. The protesters also agreed to not disrupt the university’s commencement events.

Commencement ceremonies are scheduled for 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the school’s Panther Arena. The university is prohibiting items including large banners, flag signs and poles from the ceremonies.

Tufts University

At Tufts University, protesters had set up a brief encampment in late April . It was taken down in early May, according to CBS News, and school officials stated that the protest ended voluntarily.

The school’s commencement ceremony was scheduled for 9 a.m. on campus. The school has increased security measures and prohibited items such as signs, banners and flags.

Barack Obama spoke at Morehouse’s commencement 11 years ago.

With his appearance in Atlanta on Sunday, President Biden will become the second sitting president to deliver Morehouse College’s commencement address in 11 years.

President Barack Obama, speaking almost 50 years after the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his “I Have a Dream” speech in Washington, invoked King and his own life’s story during the college’s 2013 commencement .

Morehouse’s most celebrated alumnus, King “learned to be unafraid, and he, in turn, taught others to be unafraid, and over time, he taught a nation to be unafraid,” Mr. Obama said.

“And over the last 50 years, thanks to the moral force of Dr. King and a Moses generation that overcame their fear and their cynicism and their despair, barriers have come tumbling down, and new doors of opportunity have swung open, and laws and hearts and minds have been changed to the point where someone who looks just like you can somehow come to serve as president of these United States of America,” Mr. Obama continued to applause. “So the history we share should give you hope. The future we share should give you hope.”

Mr. Obama, whose speech touched on his own childhood and upbringing with bracing candor, also directly challenged the graduating class.

“Nobody cares how tough your upbringing was,” he said moments after referring to ascendant economies in other countries and their legions of young people. “Nobody cares if you suffered some discrimination. And moreover, you have to remember that whatever you’ve gone through, it pales in comparison to the hardships previous generations endured — and they overcame them. And if they overcame them, you can overcome them, too.”

Mr. Obama returned to Morehouse in 2018, after he had left the White House, to campaign for Democratic candidates in Georgia.

Maya King and Reid J. Epstein

Maya King reported from Atlanta, and Reid J. Epstein from Washington.

Here’s why antiwar protests haven’t flared up at Black colleges like Morehouse.

Ahead of President Biden’s graduation remarks on Sunday at Morehouse College in Atlanta, a prestigious historically Black institution, the White House signaled some anxiety about the potential for protests over the war in Gaza.

During a recent visit to Atlanta, Vice President Kamala Harris stopped to ask the Morehouse student government president about the sentiment on campus about the conflict, how students felt about Mr. Biden’s visit and what the graduating class wanted to hear from him. Later, the leader of the administration’s public engagement office and one of its most senior Black officials, Stephen K. Benjamin, visited to take the temperature of students, faculty members and administrators.

The reasons for concern are clear: Nationwide demonstrations over the war and Mr. Biden’s approach to it have inflamed more than 60 colleges and universities , stoked tensions within the Democratic Party and created new headaches for his re-election bid.

Yet Mr. Biden appears to be entering a different type of scene at Morehouse.

While anger over the war remains palpable at Morehouse and other historically Black colleges and universities, these campuses have been largely free of turmoil, and tensions are far less evident: no encampments, few loud protests and little sign of Palestinian flags flying from dorm windows.

The reasons stem from political, cultural and socioeconomic differences with other institutions of higher learning. While H.B.C.U.s host a range of political views, domestic concerns tend to outweigh foreign policy in the minds of most students. Many started lower on the economic ladder and are more intently focused on their education and their job prospects after graduation.

At Morehouse — which has a legacy of civil rights protests and is the alma mater of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. — discontent over the Gaza war has played out in classrooms and auditoriums rather than on campus lawns.

“This should not be a place that cancels people regardless of if we agree with them,” David Thomas, the Morehouse president, said in an interview earlier this month. Of Mr. Biden’s visit, he said, “Whether people support the decision or not, they are committed to having it happen on our campus in a way that doesn’t undermine the integrity or dignity of the school.”

Some students have held contentious meetings with university leaders and urged them to rescind Mr. Biden’s invitation, and a small group of faculty members has vowed not to attend commencement. Some alumni wrote a letter expressing worries that student protesters could be punished, noting Morehouse’s history of “celebrating student activists long after they have graduated.”

But the college might appear politically safer for the president to visit than many others. Morehouse is a custom-bound place where undergraduates traditionally do not step on the grass in the heart of campus until they receive their degrees. Alumni view commencement as a distinguished event not only for students but also for scores of family and community members — making it a less likely venue for a major disruption.

NFL Pushes Back On Harrison Butker's Bigoted Graduation Speech

T he NFL on Wednesday issued a measured rebuke of Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker for his ultraconservative blather during a college graduation speech.

Butker slammed abortion rights , the LGBTQ community and diversity initiatives, and suggested women should be far more eager to be homemakers than to pursue careers.

In his remarks to Benedictine College on Saturday, he even managed to tick off fans of Taylor Swift by referring to her merely as teammate Travis Kelce’s “girlfriend.”

The image-conscious league finally hit back in a statement to multiple outlets .

“Harrison Butker gave a speech in his personal capacity,” Jonathan Beane, the NFL’s senior vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer, said in a statement. “His views are not those of the NFL as an organization. The NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger.”

The league, which is the dominant team-sport entity in the U.S., appeared to focus on Butker citing Pride Month as one of the deadly sins , and his pontificating on “dangerous gender ideologies” and the “tyranny of diversity, equity and inclusion.”

He also blasted President Joe Biden for supporting “the murder of innocent babies.”

“Bad policies and poor leadership have negatively impacted major life issues,” he said. “Things like abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, as well as a growing support for degenerate cultural values and media, all stem from the pervasiveness of disorder.”

Speech on Mother’s Love

Mother’s love is like a shining star, always bright and warm. It is a bond that remains unbroken, regardless of time or distance. You know that comforting, warm feeling when your mom hugs you? That’s a tiny glimpse of mother’s love.

This affection is more than just a feeling. It’s an incredible force that shapes us, teaching us about kindness, empathy, and the strength of human connections. Mother’s love is a beautiful journey, full of precious moments that become lifelong memories.

1-minute Speech on Mother’s Love

Ladies and gentlemen, today we will talk about something precious and pure – a mother’s love. It is a kind of love that shines bright and never fades. It is a love that starts even before we open our eyes to the world and stays with us until the end.

A mother’s love is like a blanket that wraps us in warmth, security and comfort. It is that warm hug on a cold day, that encouraging smile when we are down, that gentle push when we are scared to take the first step. It is a light that guides us in the darkest tunnel, and a voice that echoes in our hearts when we need guidance.

A mother’s love is not just about caring and protecting. It is also about teaching and guiding. A mother teaches us to walk, to talk, to laugh, and to love. She guides us in our journey, showing us the right path, teaching us the difference between right and wrong, and helping us become the best version of ourselves.

A mother’s love is selfless and unconditional. She loves us not because she expects something in return, but because we are a part of her. She sacrifices her comfort, her sleep, her time, and even her dreams, just to see us happy. Her love is not measured in words or actions, but in the pain she bears, the smiles she shares, and the dreams she nurtures.

So, let’s take a moment to appreciate the love of all the mothers in the world. Let’s thank them for their endless love, care, and sacrifices. Let’s celebrate the power of a mother’s love, which is the strongest and the most beautiful love in the world.

2-minute Speech on Mother’s Love

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, today we gather to talk about a special kind of love, a love that is pure, unconditional, and everlasting. Today, we talk about a mother’s love. It’s not just a feeling, but a powerful force that shapes us and makes us who we are.

Imagine a love so strong that it begins even before we open our eyes to the world for the first time. This is a mother’s love. From the moment we start to grow inside her, she loves us. She carries us for nine months, feeling every kick, every heartbeat, sharing her own life to give us ours. A mother’s love is a miracle that never ends, a treasure that we carry with us always.

A mother’s love is a guiding light that leads us through the darkest times. When we’re lost, confused, or hurt, it’s a mother’s love that shows us the way. She wipes away our tears, holds our hand, and tells us that everything will be okay. And in her arms, we believe it will be. A mother’s love is a beacon of hope in a world that can sometimes seem scary and uncertain.

A mother’s love is a teacher, too. She teaches us right from wrong, and shows us the value of kindness, respect, and honesty. She leads by example, showing us that love is not just a word, but an action. A mother’s love is a lesson that stays with us, guiding us long after we’ve grown up and left home.

And most importantly, a mother’s love is a gift given freely, without expecting anything in return. She doesn’t love us because we’re smart, or because we’re good at sports, or because we’re pretty or handsome. She loves us just because we are hers. A mother’s love is unconditional. It doesn’t change if we make mistakes, if we fail, if we’re not perfect. A mother’s love is steady, constant, and unwavering.

In the end, a mother’s love is the most powerful love of all. It shapes us, guides us, teaches us, and accepts us for who we are. It’s a love that never ends, a love that we carry with us always. This is the magic of a mother’s love. It’s a love that’s not just felt, but lived. Every day, in every moment, a mother’s love is there, reminding us that we are loved, that we are important, that we matter.

So today, let’s celebrate this incredible love. Let’s say thank you to our mothers, for their love, their sacrifices, their lessons, and their unwavering belief in us. Let’s honor them, not just today, but every day. Because a mother’s love is a gift that keeps on giving, a treasure that we carry with us always.
