Importance of Education and the Ministry of Education

Education is a basic human necessity, just like food or clothing. In contemporary times, it has become a basic human right. Every human needs and deserves education.

Education helps the person decide what is wrong and what is right and makes her capable enough to form her own definitions of the terms ‘right’ and ‘wrong’.

Education makes us capable enough to like our own life independently and gives us a chance to develop ourselves into the best version of us. It helps us reach our potential.

Education liberates us, it sets us free. Yet, education bounds us, in the way that it makes us understand the rights of others, and how we cannot encroach upon those rights.

Education domesticated and civilized us, yet it enhances our imagination and let it run wild. Education gives an expression to our creativity and ideas and chance to realize those creative ideas. Such is the importance of education.

It is obvious that the person or the organisation in charge of looking after the systematic spread of education in a country will have an enormous responsibility on their shoulders.

Simple mistakes, ineffective schemes and conduct or lack of actual implementation of ideal policies could lead to disastrous consequences for the entire nation. Such is the importance of an Education Minister.

Before Becoming the Education Minister

I am of the opinion that the very post of the Education Minister should be held by a person who is qualified enough to handle such a huge responsibility.

Even if in our country India, the post of the Education Minister is one that is selected through elections, all parties should come to a consensus that the person who comes to hold this position is a person who is qualified and experienced.

After all, the future of our nation rests on her/his shoulders. Therefore, I’ll make sure that I acquire all the requisite qualifications before even thinking about accepting the prestigious post.

Problems in the Indian Education System

The first and foremost task before changing or improving anything is looking at the actual problems that we face. Things can change only when one knows what to change to actually see improvement.

Therefore, when I become the Education Minister, the step I will take is to understand the actual ground realities of the education system in India and the problem it faces.

Currently, there are many concrete problems that the Indian Education System is plagued with.

First , education in India, though being a fundamental right, is not universal. Not all parents send their children to school. Poor parents prefer that their children help them in their work and earn some money because that is their urgent need.

Therefore, these young children are deprived of their childhood as well as their future just for the sake of earning some meagre income to support their poor families.

Poverty is a problem that plagues the Indian society. One of the major reasons that people stay below the poverty line is because they are uneducated and therefore cannot get good paying jobs.

Because of lack of education they cannot develop themselves. They become stuck in their bleak situations. On the other hand, people are poor and therefore cannot afford to send their children to school.

Therefore, people are poor because they are uneducated and are uneducated because they are poor. This is a vicious circle that needs to be broken.

Second , there are simply not enough primary schools to provide education to the children of India. Some backward areas in India still do not have schools to provide basic education.

Third, even if there are schools in villages and backward area, these schools lack funding and staff. Teachers are often not enough in strength.

Sometimes, the teachers themselves are not qualified. This becomes a major hindrance in the spread of education.

Fourth, another major problem that the Indian education system faces is the sex ratio in schools. Some section of Indian society still has the backward belief that the girl child is a responsibility and not an asset.

Therefore, she does not deserve education.

In families with thinking such as this, preference is given to send the male child to school instead of the girl child.

There is also a belief that women are not capable of learning, or it is not their place to learn. Education and knowledge is only for the male child.

Fifth , the content and syllabus prescribed has become out dated and old. There are much new advancements in many subjects that are not taught to children just because they are not included in the syllabus.

Children are deprived of knowledge that would actually help them in today’s time.

Also, in the system of education prevalent in India after our independence, more importance was given to marks.

The main aim was to churn out obedient workers to boost the Indian economy. But now, things have changed. India needs innovation.

It needs creative thinkers. For this, the emphasis on marks needs to be changed. More focus should be on actual learning and practical knowledge.

Sixth, many students in India drop out of school after completing their primary education for various reasons. They do not pursue higher studies.

There are many other problems that the Indian Education system faces, but these are the major issues that need to be immediately addressed.

Solutions and steps to be taken

After finding out the issues, the next step would be to introduce policies and find solutions to these issues.

First , I feel that the vicious circle mentioned in the first problem needs to be broken. To do that, I would take a twofold approach.

First, I would make depriving children of education and not sending them to school in the primary stages of their lives a punishable offense with rigorous and strict punishment.

Second, I would make primary education completely free. Education is of primary importance. It is an investment for the future. Only educated citizens can develop India and therefore, appropriate budget should be allocated.

Second , I would make sure that there is a school within every 100 km radius in India, or as the need is according to the population in India.

I would make a government officer responsible for each school who would have to report about the school every month to the Ministry.

To avoid any kind of corruption of mal-practices, I would hire external agencies to conduct a yearly survey, and give them enough autonomy so that the agency is protected from any Ministry influence.

The budget and financial aid to be provided would be according to the report. I would also introduce a scheme to train local teachers.

Third , I would encourage families in India to send their girl child to school as well as their male. Not sending children to school would be a punishable offense.

In primary schools, I would ask the teachers to encourage the children and their parents to pursue higher studies.

I would bring out policies to provide education loans with low interests and scholarships to meritorious students.

Fourth , I would set up a committee to review the present syllabus and suggest changes in it, after studying the needs of the time. I would implement such changes immediately, without wasting time.

I would ask schools to conduct workshops for the teachers to brief them and make them understand the new syllabus.

The new pattern would give more importance to learning and practical knowledge rather than marks and grades.

Fifth , no solutions can be effective if they are not implemented properly. Effective implementation of policies till the grass root level is one of the major problems that India faces.

It will be my major concern. I would make an autonomous body of academicians and social workers to review policy implementation.

Any kind of laziness would not be tolerated. I would make all information public, to invite public scrutiny.

I would make sure that the solutions and reports given by the autonomous body is worked on with the full force of the law.

These would be the major changes that I would make. Of course, I would make other changes as well when required. I would be open to criticism and suggestion.

If I Were the Minister of Education

Essay on If I Were the Minister of Education

“If this wish is fulfilled, I will help you to reach the top of the mountain of knowledge.”

If I become education minister, I shall do a lot for students, teachers and education. First of all, I shall try to set up as many schools in the villages as possible. I shall myself visit the rural (village) areas and ask the villagers to educate their children. I shall also open schools for adults (grown-ups) in the rural (village) areas and shall make arrangements for the distribution of free books among them.

I shall start new schools, colleges and universities in the cities. I shall try to have a proper number of students in the classes of every college. I shall have a special education fund to which the government as well as rich people will be made to contribute. New buildings for schools and colleges will be constructed with it. Thus, a large number of teachers will be employed.

I shall try my best to have higher standards of education in the country. For this, I shall allow only able and intelligent teachers to work in our educational institutions. It will be my effort to have standard books published on different subjects. I shall encourage effective writers and have special prizes for them. I shall try to reduce the prices of books. I shall try to have new libraries in the country. But I shall also expand the old ones. All these libraries will be having all the books needed by the students and the public. Poor students find it difficult to buy books and things (articles) of daily use. I shall have special scholarships for such students. Then I shall try to provide them work in government departments before or after their classes.

[the_ad id=”17141″]

One of my greatest aims as education minister is to make universal education in Pakistan a reality. Many say that it is impossible to educate all our people in cities, towns and villages in the absence of sizeable (large) funds. As minister, I shall suggest agricultural and industrial reforms (great social and economic changes) for a better economy. When the economy improves a lot, the government will have the funds to open new schools and to spend on education for all.

Another main aim of mine will be to provide different kinds of education, scientific, technical, professional, political, social, etc. according to the needs of the society in its different sections. Thus, if a certain area or group of people needs scientific education, schools and colleges will be set up for this purpose. If an area or group needs education for training in different professions like welding, carpentry, motor engineering, computer operation, etc., educational institutions will be set up. Thus, the whole country will be divided into educational areas or zones under a national plan. This will help in the availability of trained and educated labour for employment inside and outside the country. Greater production of better goods will result in more exports and fall in prices inside the country.

My dream to become minister of education may come true one day. Then I shall do everything that I have described above.

English Essay, Paragraph, Speech on “If I Were The Education Minister” Complete Essay for Class 10, Class 12 and Graduation and other classes.

If I Were The Education Minister

A person must always aspire to become something in life. He must set for himself a goal and then start working towards it with all earnestness.

I have since my childhood days always wished to become the education minister of the country. I dreamt of becoming an education minister because I was very impressed by the visions of various scholars and philosophers like Raja Gopalachari, Gokhale, Srinivas Shastri, etc. Their lives and times had made me realize the importance of the right kind of education in early childhood.

Education plays an important part in making a person cultured and civilized. It makes a person fit to live in a society. An education minister, therefore, has a very crucial role to play in the country. Hitherto the department of youth and education was given to the least important member of the education. The education minister’s role was limited to attending functions and Okaying grants. This situation is however slowly changing. It is now slowly dawning on the leadership of the country that only competently educated young people can fit into the fast-changing global business scene.

At the onset of my duties as an education minister, I will ensure that no academic days are lost due to students or teachers. I will bring about a constitutional amendment in the fundamental rights to education the ensuring that the teachers and students rigorously follow the prescribed academic timetable.

The state of various educational and vocational institutions is extremely pathetic. There is a shortage of books, lab types of equipment, teaching aids, and buildings. I will ensure that funds are properly channelized to such institutions so that they may buy the needful equipment or books. I will ask various technical and scientific institutes to earn their upkeep by actively participating in various industry-related research and programmes. I will also open the door to various companies who are willing to sponsor a department in the universities as a part of their industrial research program.

Financial bungling is legendary in the department of education Surprise audits and checks will be authorized by me so that no financial corruption is able to take root.

A proper remuneration package for the teachers and the needy students will be formulated in order to take care of their needs.

In short, I will systematically try to solve various problems that the education system faces in this country.

Essay On If I Were the Education Minister

  • Post category: Essay
  • Reading time: 5 mins read

If, by God’s grace, I become the Education minister of my State, I would do my best to introduce the following reforms:

Our present system of education is old and hackneyed. It produces cheap clerks. Creative type of education is the crying need of the hour. An ideal system of education is the backbone of democracy. I shall introduce free elementary education for one and all. I shall also explore the avenues of making secondary education free. I shall introduce mass education in my State through films and the radio. I shall introduce creative and constructive type of tests in place of the present system of examination which is a huge fraud played upon our young men.

I shall make military training compulsory for boys as well as girls. The country’s defence is not only the concern of the army but also that of all young men and women.

England, America and Russia have become the richest and most powerful countries of the world through technical education. As Education Minister of the State, I shall start first rate technical schools and colleges all over the State. Technical education will be given a technical bias. Students will earn while they learn. They will no longer be a burden on their parents.

Character-building will be made a part and parcel of education. Every scholar’s behaviour, conduct and character will be strictly watched and a secret report regarding all these will be made to the authorities by the teachers and the professors concerned.

I shall see that the relation between the teachers and the taughts are most cordial and harmonious. I shall further see that in coeducational institutions the boys look upon girls as their sisters and do not harass them in any way

These days teachers are ill-paid. They cannot make both ends meet. They do not command respect. As the Education Minister I would raise the pay scales of teachers and try to raise their social status in all possible ways.

Some of the teachers do not learn their subjects thoroughly. They are ignorant of the day-to-day growth of their subjects. I shall send all teachers for a refresher course during the long summer vacation every three years. These are the things I would attempt to do as the Education Minister of my State.

Short essay on if i were the education minister of India

essay on if i were education minister

Flights of imagination and hypothetical assumptions do not serve any worthwhile purpose, but certain postulates lead us to reflect on the problems of the country. What would I do, if I were the Education Minister of India? I would make all-out efforts to give education the importance it deserves.

I would compel my government to allocate sufficient funds to my department, so that educational plans and programmes might not be hampered for want of money. I would reorient the entire education system according to the specific needs of our country. I would make it meaningful and purposeful. As everybody knows, good education develops a student’s personality and character, teaches him some skill and enables him to face the challenges of life successfully.

Unfortunately educational standards have greatly deteriorated in modern times. I would try to put education again on a high pedestal. The emphasis would be on vocational training. Higher education would be given only to the selected few and the Institutions imparting higher education would be granted autonomy. Professional courses would not be taught at governmental cost and effective checks would be enforced to stop brain-drain.

The poor and the deserving would, of course, be given all possible help. No school, college or university would be without the requisite facilities-good buildings, adequate class-rooms, well-developed sports grounds, well-equipped laboratories, audio-visual aids, etc. Extra-curricular activities, particularly games and sports, would be promoted vigorously, zealously and effectively.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

The teachers would be of a very high caliber and they would enjoy enviable social status. No political and bureaucratic interference would be allowed it educational affairs. The examination system would be revamped and continual internal assessment of student’s performance would be made compulsory. I would like to make India great, strong and prosperous through a suitable education system.
